About the author

Nancy Rue is the author of over 100 books for adults and teens, including the Christy Award-winning The Reluctant Prophet, Unexpected Dismounts and Healing Waters (with Steve Arterburn), which was the 2009 Women of Faith Novel of the Year. She travels extensively—at times on the back of a Harley—speaking to and teaching groups of women of all ages. Nancy lives on a lake in Tennessee with her Harley-ridin’ husband, Jim, and their two yellow Labs (without whom writing would be difficult).

Very, very, touching- but good.

The main character, Lily, has been looking forward to having an adopted younger sister (Tessa), but the reality is that this new sibling has some deep issues with acceptance and trust. Lily struggles with how to handle difficult situations with her new sister and almost gives up believing that God will help her. In the end, she chooses to keep trusting God and things work out.

What I liked:
Lily prayed about things and talked with her parents about things. When she was about to give up on trusting God, she and her mom had a good conversation about it that helped her. Even after all the things Lily told her friends about Tessa, they decided to help Lily babysit her and help her with her homework; they gave Tessa a chance and tried to be friendly and helpful to her. She and her friends prayed together about Tessa near the end of the story and worked together to help Tessa.

What I didn't like:
There was a lot of slang at the beginning of the book, which made me uncomfortable, as it gave the book a worldly/edgy feel. The adopted sister was referred to by the main character as a "demon seed" and devil child a few times. Tessa tries to wear a shirt with inappropriate language ( "bite me"). There is some teasing/lighthearted reference to a boy being a girl's boyfriend. Tessa's mom is revealed to have been a young teen (14) when she had Tessa. Lily had a hateful attitude about Tessa and gossiped and complained about her to her friends. Sometimes Lily would feel guilty about something, but wouldn't apologize, though she did apologize about something near the end of the story.

The 11th book in the series, Horse Crazy Lily focuses on a time in her family where things are changing drastically. Lily has an older as well as a younger brother. Her parents have decided to adopt a 9-year-old girl on top of this. Tessa is a troubled child, not having anyone in her life that she can depend on. Consequently she reacts to most situations poorly.

lily finds out that she really loves horses after a small birthday party insedant. nut she also has an adopted sister that she has to look after. how will she handle it> by the way the sisters nickname to lily is:
"devil child" you will find out why if you read this book
