In order to help a friend possessed by a spirit, Ozawa Haruka knocks on the door of her university's movie research association. There she meets Saitou Yakumo, a rude, unkempt young man with a red left eye, who is said to have spiritual powers. At first Haruka is skeptical, but she comes to believe him when he conveys messages from her older sister, who died when she was a child. Together, they work to shed light on the terrifying events happening at their university. But this is only the prologue of what's to come...

Dark and creepy, with beautiful art work. I just hope we get to know the characters more. Then my rating will probably go up.

Update: Review of the first four volumes all volumes. Note: The manga is based on a novel I have not read, so I am only speaking about the manga.
It redeemed itself a bit toward the end—things get clearer, and the plot of the last mystery is actually pretty good → I am increasing my rating from 2 to 3 ⭐️.
I like mystery ♠️ and detective stories, and I love manga. So, I thought, well, this has got to be a great manga. And yet, it failed me so many times—UGH!
The manga tells the story of Yakumo, a university (? I think - he appears to sleep at the uni) student who can see the dead and experience their sadness. His gift/curse leads him to lend a hand to other students and the police.

🚨 Yakumo's comments toward Haruka are textbook gaslighting (he consistently tells her she's stupid). To be fair, he also gaslights the police detective, Gotou, but this is not an excuse -- it's just to say that at least gaslighting is not gendered 🥲
🚨 There are always 2 storylines going on in parallel that then (miraculously) seem to converge. I get it once, twice, but three times-- come on! That is way too much.

I really have problem with how the story was told. For what I've come to know, this manga is an adaptation of a novel by the same name & I can't say anything about the original since I've not read it yet.
Good books don't give up all their secrets at once - Stephen King.
That's not what happened here. I found the story was really choppy throughout the volume (chap1-3). In chapter 1, we basically get to know Haruka's backstory from the first few pages. However, there's a need for that so the plot could move. In chapter 3, we get to know about Saitou's & I don't find anything to backup the sudden revelation which I found out of place. And we're told through conversation between the MCs (we're not taken to the scene of their backstory). I mean, look at Harry Potter for example, readers don't get the story of Tom Riddle's childhood & Dumbledore's sister until the later books. The mystery aspect was so-so.
The art is the typical shoujo manga art & it's quite nice.
I don't know if this is how it was originally written, but in Japanese culture, for someone you hardly knew, you don't address them by their first name. Saitou called one of the ghost by her first name while Haruka called her by her last name. Is it because Saitou can see her? That's it? I don't buy that.

I love this book. This is the third detective that I love (other than Sherlock Holmes and Shinichi Kudo). The storey is a mix of mystery, supranatural and thriller, with a little bit of fantasy and romance. Sadly, there are no novel version in this app.

Vol 1: (chapters 1-4)
Like the premise- guy has powers that allow him to see ghosts and has set up his own little office on campus disguised as film research club. Fellow students, detectives, and a recurring sidekick/ possible love interest all come to him for supernatural help...which he is willing to provide for some cash on the side.
So far its kind of a who-done-it of the week with a over arching story.
The FL is pretty alright but a def damsel in distress a lot while Yakumo is...actually kind of mean and pretty sarcastic. If I was the FL I don't know if I would fall for someone who calls me an idiot all the time and acts like I'm an annoyance. Never liked the bully boyfriend vibe.
But will read on.

Yakumo Saito hat es nicht einfach im Leben, er wurde mit einem roten Auge geboren und ist in der Lage die Seelen der Verstorbenen zu sehen. Er scheint keine Freunde in seinem Alter zu besitzen und wird von den Menschen wegen seiner Andersartigkeit gemieden. Eines Tages sucht die Schülerin Haruka ihn auf, denn ihrer Freundin Miki ist etwas schreckliches zugestoßen und Yakumo ist der einzige der ihr helfen kann.
Yakumo erinnert mich ein wenig an Detektiv Conan, aber auch nur weil beide so verdammt schlau sind. Yakumo ist ehr der verschlossene Typ, was man aber auch verstehen kann. Er ist super cool, auch wenn andere das leider nicht sehen können. Er ist ein Einzelgänger der versucht seine Einsamkeit und Verletzlichkeit zu überspielen.
Weitere Charaktere sind Haruka, Hata, Ishii und Goto. Haruka ist die zweite Hauptperson im Manga und wird anscheinend so etwas wie Yakumos Gehilfin. Leider mag ich sie nicht wirklich, ihre Art nervt mich einfach. Hata ist der perverse Gerichtsmediziner, über den leider nicht mehr bekannt ist.
Goto ist Kommissar und Yakumos Freund. Sie arbeiten oft zusammen um mysteriöse Falle zu lösen. Goto mag ich sehr, er hat eine sehr sympathische Art und Weise. Auch finde ich seine Freundschaft zu Yakumo sehr faszinierend und ich würde gern wissen wie sie sich kennen gelernt haben. Ishii ist Kommissar und der Partner von Goto.
Fazit: Der Manga war sehr spannend, voller Action und ein wenig gruselig. Die Idee und die Umsetzung des Manga haben mir sehr gut gefallen und die Zeichnungen sind sehr schön und sehr Detail getreu. Ich freue mich schon auf Band 2!!

Aku membaca dalam versi bahasa Indonesia
Sebelumnya aku malah membaca novel dari Detektif Yakumo ini. Setelah menelusur, rupanya novel itu berasal dari satu serial manga yang kalau tidak salah terdiri dari 14 volume. Aku terlambat dalam mengikuti kabar tersebut sehingga agak kesulitan juga mendapatkan volume pertamanya.
Volume pertama ini didapatkan berkat diskon 90% yang diadakan oleh Gramedia.com. Hanya Rp2.500 saja, siapa yang tidak tergoda? Meskipun tidak tersedia semua volume, tapi rasanya tidak masalah jika aku membaca volume 1 terlebih dahulu. Yang artinya adalah aku mencoba mengetahui apa yang sebenernya terjadi dengan Yakumo dan mengapa ia dijuluki sebagai seorang detektif.
Pada volume pertama ini, pembaca dikenalkan dengan para tokoh utama yang nantinya juga akan muncul di edisi novelnya. Pengenalannya tidak terkesan terburu-buru kok. Masih halus dan wajar. Juga tidak terlalu banyak hal yang seperti dipaksakan.
Yang terlihat cukup berbeda dengan edisi novel adalah tokoh Yakumo itu sendiri. Yakumo di manga tampak lebih diam, senang mengamati. Sedangkan dalam versi novel, ia seringkali mengoceh dan berkata kurang enak kepada temannya itu.

Maybe it’s because I read the original (Psychic Detective Yakumo Vol. 1) just yesterday that I didn’t really like this adaptation. It’s not that I’m comparing them… or maybe I am but just a little. To be honest, I liked the dynamic between Haruka and Yakumo more in the original version. Overall, this volume felt rushed to me. Though, I’m going to continue reading because I’m sure that this manga series provides more information than the original two-volume series.

Psychic Detective Yakumo nos presenta la historia de Yakumo un estudiante del que corre el rumor que posee poderes especiales. Haruka necesita ayuda para salvar la vida de una amiga y al escuchar los rumores sobre Yakumo decide ir a pedirle ayuda, pero jamás espero encontrarse con un chico
sarcástico y malhumorado que se la pasa estafando a la gente.
Haruka no cree en los poderes de Yakumo, hasta que este le dice que justo en ese momento está viendo a su gemela muerta. A partir de ese momento Haruka decide creer en él y juntos empiezan a investigar lo que pudo pasarle a su amiga.
Este primer tomo contiene cuatro capítulos, tres de los cuales nos cuentan el caso de “El cuarto que no se abre”. En este caso una amiga de Haruka queda traumatizada al ir una noche con su novio a un edificio abandonado. La amiga termina en el hospital y nadie sabe que tiene mientras que su novio parece que se suicidó al lanzarse a las vías de un tren. Yakumoal ver a la chica descubre que un espíritu la ha poseído y no la dejará libre hasta que resuelvan su asesinato.
El cuarto capítulo inicia con el caso de “Lo que une a las almas”. Es un capítulo más corto pero en él se nos muestra parte de la información que Yakumo necesitará para resolver el siguiente misterio.
La verdad es que no pensaba que fuese a gustarme tanto esta manga.
La historia a mi parecer tiene todo, misterio, comedia, drama y un protagonista perfecto que logra cargar con todo el peso de la historia.
Yakumo es de esos personajes que tanto amo, gruñón, sarcástico, flojo, grosero, hosco, pero de bajo de todo eso tiene sus momentos que me hace pensar que tiene una tremenda historia por contar.
La relación de Yakumoy Haruka también es de esas que me gusta, o sea una relación amor-odio. Hay veces que Haruka lo odia y luego él hace algo lindo y ella piensa que quizá no es malo solo para al siguiente segundo odiarlo de nuevo. Muero de ansias por saber cómo continuara la relación entre ambos.
Pero creo que lo que más me gusto fueron las ilustraciones tan detallistas. De verdad que hasta ahora son los mejores dibujos que he visto en un manga.

Been on a manga kick recently and have been meaning to start this series.
Based on a light novel series, they made the manga series a few years later. First of all I love the drawing, good story and good art is always a plus.
The first novel introduces us to our 2 protagonist, the main is Yakumo Saito a boy who has one red eye that allows him to see ghosts and spirits. The second is Haruka Ozawa who approaches Yakumo to help her friend who has been possessed. The first novel deals with the mystery of this ghost

Its a detective series, but with something more which is given by Yakumo's supernatural ability and inner struggle. Secondary charachters are a bit cliché so far, but my love for this series outcomes it all. Worth reading for detective stories lovers.

Nel tentativo di aiutare un'amica in difficoltà - ricoverata in ospedale dopo una "prova di coraggio" -, Haruka Ozawa finisce per incontrare Yakumo, un ragazzo bellissimo, ma anche terribilmente sarcastico e non troppo socievole (oltre ad avere la stessa passione per il dormire di Kaede Rukawa...saranno mica parenti?). A quanto pare il ragazzo ha una certa esperienza con questioni di natura sovrannaturale: infatti, grazie al suo occhio sinistro (di un innaturale colore rosso, opportunamente mascherato da una lente a contatto), è in grado di vedere le anime delle persone morte. E Miki, l'amica di Haruka, è, a quanto pare, posseduta dallo spirito di una ragazza deceduta, alla ricerca di pace e giustizia.
Ad accompagnare le indagini dei due protagonisti, c'è anche un terzo "personaggio", ovvero il fantasma della sorella di Haruka, che non ha mai smesso di vegliare su di lei e della cui morte la ragazza si è sempre sentita responsabile - diciamo che entrambi hanno un passato molto difficile alle spalle, che ha finito per segnarli profondamente (anche se Yakumo tende a fare finta di niente, abituato al disprezzo e allo scetticismo della gente). Chissà come evolverà il rapporto tra i due...
Una volta risolto il caso, Haruka si ritroverà molto presto alla porta del nostro detective dell'occulto, insieme agli ispettori della polizia: a quanto pare, ci sono nuovi misteri da svelare!

Este manga me gustado mucho y sin duda ame a los personajes principales Yakumo y Haruka forman un equipo fantástico y se complementan perfectamente, me encanta esa relación de amor y odio donde hay momentos en que Haruka lo odia y luego él hace algo lindo que la lleva a pensar que no es tan malo para luego volver a odiarlo. Quiero saber cómo termina la relación de estos dos.
Y qué decir de la historia me parece bastante buena y la forma en que se lleva y se aborda la trama me encanta además a mi parecer lo tiene todo tanto misterio, momentos cómicos y drama y qué decir de nuestro protagonista un personaje bien construido que sabe llevar el peso de la trama.
En cuanto al arte este es hermoso, me encanto el diseño de los personajes Yakumo luce realmente apuesto y esa personalidad gruñona, sarcástica, desenfadada y hosca, pero tiene esos momentos en que nos da a entender hay algo más que se esconde dentro de esa personalidad.

Cuando lo comencé a leer, pensé que era un manga con muchos clichés. El protagonista es el tipico que aunque no lo aparenta se siente solo y esta roto por dentro, ha sido rechazado desde pequeño por su madre y en general la gente se ha burlado de él debido a su don. Y la protagonista desde el momento que lo conoció, repite una y otra vez lo hermoso que es ese hombre, pero al mismo tiempo lo grosero que es con ella. Eso la verdad, es bastante tipico. Pero el misterio me gustó mucho, el hecho de que poco a poco vayan descubriendo que fué lo que ocurrió y la forma como lo hacen, es divertida. Supongo que todos los casos seran a cerca de resolver homicidios ya que el poder de nuestro detective es que puede ver fantasmas, de hecho al final del primer volumen da comienzo al segundo caso, que parece involucrar a un asesino en serie y aparecen nuevos personajes muy interesantes.
Me gustó mucho, definitivamente voy a seguir esta serie.

I watched the anime years ago but there was only one season so I never got to know the ending. I completely forgot the plot but I'm excited to get back to it!
It's about Yakumo, a college student, who sees ghosts. It's basically Gost Whisperer as a manga series and I loooved Ghost Whisperer as a Teen😍
The first volume is a good introduction for the whole plot!
I also read this bc I wanted to complete my reading goal (I had one book left lol). I'm very busy and in a reading slump😵💫 The manga saved me!😂

Wow Wow Wow encore un manga sur lequel j'avais de légers doutes (je suis une grande froussarde...) mais c'était trop bien trop bien ! L'histoire est prenante, bien faite, très bonne, que dire de plus ; les personnages charismatiques (Yakumo tout particulièrement...) ; le dessin très beau ; le rythme très bon... Bref en fait c'était un génial moment de lecture.

Dibagi menjadi 3 cerita pendek, menurutku novel ini kurang menegangkan dan membuat penasaran. Unsur horornya sudah cukup mencekam, namun misterinya terasa dangkal dan kurang rumit. Dan versi terjemahan bahasa Indonesianya, bagiku, agak berantakan; banyak typo dan bahasanya kurang luwes, banyak penggunaan kata yang sama dalam satu paragraf.

this series was like my favorite genres all on it. it has supernatural and crime-mystery genres. it's thrilling and well-written. .This series is like a giant puzzle in every chapter and It is filled with unexpected twists and turns. I love how the relationship between all the characters developed. Yakumo is really a cool, smart and so delicate which all are my boyfriend materials xD

La historia tiene de todo, misterio, comedia, drama y posiblemente algo de romance, y sobre todo un perfecto protagonista. Yakumo es uno de los personajes favoritos que me encantan, gruño, juguetón sarcástico, flojo, pero sobre todo tiene una tremenda historia que contar.

Quede completamente enamorada de la personalidad del protagonista, el dibujo es bellísimo y la trama adictiva, todos los casos que tratan de resolver te atrapan de principio a fin, es una pena que sea un manga muy corto.
