Eh. Yes, another super-hero book, and this is just my 5 yr old. I can hardly wait (not) until my twins are into super heroes. My son loved it, so that's all that matters. It's the book he chose to read to me today. A good level 2, except it seemed a little on the easy side, not sure if that's because of length or of vocabulary, but my son read through it pretty quickly. We had to stop several times to discuss our favorite super heroes and other parts of the book. My son is forever annoyed that I usually like the bad guy better than the super hero. Today he asked who my favorite was when I was a kid. I told him it was a toss-up between Flash Gorden, Mighty Mouse, or He-Man. He was like, "Who are they?" I'll have to educate him.
Hm. Well, my nephew and I weren't terribly impressed with Spider-Man Versus the Scorpion. This one just lacked.... something. I think that it's pretty difficult to combine Peter Parker segments with Spider-Man action segments in books that are this short in length, and I think that in trying to do so the author ended up with a story that wasn't terribly solid on either account. The story wasn't bad, it just wasn't as good as this author's Spider-Man Versus Hydro-Man.
I read this to Chasey. I liked it alot. The fun part was that Spider-man was supposed to meet Liz at the library, but he got there the wrong day. He got there tomorrow. She said, "Actually you got here late. Your study was yesterday."
Pretty much your basic easy reader with simplified Spider-man story. There are a few good lines to show Spidey's sense of humor. Very good way to get beginning readers to read.
