Meanwhile, a voice from Jamie’s past begins to haunt her, echoing the words of the shooter now in pursuit of a target Jamie alone can save. With her K-9 partners Phantom and Casper at her side, Jamie must confront the demons of her own past as her team fights the elements and the clock in order to find the missing women and bring them home.

There are more explanations about Jamie Flint's past relationship with her son's father, as well as a hopeful prospect on new relationship with former FBI Agen, Jack Juarez.

In terms of the missing women, the villains are exposed on page before the ending is over, so it's all about how the women survives and the K-9 SAR team look for them. The battered women are actually pretty bad-ass though, that was fun to read ^^.

I think I've grown more attached to these characters -- I look forward to reading book #3.

"When you’re a dog handler, you can’t have too much stock in your own dignity – part of the job is acting like a complete idiot to keep your dog motivated and enthusiastic about the job."

Wildfire Expeditions leads retreats into the wilderness in Maine. This wintry dogsled expedition consists of leaders and abused women who have left their partners within the last six months - oh, and one woman is writing her dissertation on the long-term impact of fear on women in abusive relationships. They are in the area around Grafton Notch State Park in the Mahoosuc Mountains of Maine.

Jamie Flint and her son and crew are called in with their K-9 partners when the 10 women mysteriously disappear from their camp. A huge group of trained people and dogs look for the women in wintry conditions, finding that someone has fired into the camp, wounding two of the women.

I enjoyed this second story in the Flint K-9 Search and Rescue series, after THE DARKEST THREAD. I did feel (like I did in the first book) that the author tried to add too many elements to the story. There was a lot of repetition and it took me a while to read through the wordy story. But I still liked the separate elements - Jamie herself; her son Bear; Ren, the young Nigerian refugee; the many dogs. And I liked the setting in the wild Mahoosuc Mountains.

Oh, and the supernatural elements from the first story continue in this one.

Echoes of Fear

Love any story about dogs and especially about K-9 units. This was a great story from start to finish. That all the women got rescued and two nasty men go t what was coming to them. Great story for all dog lovers.

Review copy was received from Publisher. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

I enjoyed this much more than the first book in the Flint K9 Search and Rescue series , The Darkest Thread.  It could be the audio rather than reading but I think it was the further development of the characters and more information about their history and current situation. The search and rescue was much more realistic with more authentic details on how things worked.  It also handled the paranormal elements more smoothly.

In Inside the Blood, an outdoor trip of battered women goes missing. Jamie is called in both because she is a well known SAR person in the area and knows some of the law enforcement on the case. Also, she knows some of the missing women.

I was very worried for the women and their situation.  But I love how strong they were and how they used intelligence and fortitude to survive, as did the search and rescue people.  There are minor romantic elements, but this is not the focus.Jamie also sorted out some personal issues and ended up with some new future directions.  I look forward to going on with this series for those changes.

Narration:
I listened at my typical 1.25 speed.  It was a comfortable narration with good handling of both male and female voices. I found the voice for Jamie odd though, maybe a bit of a southern accent. But she lives in Maine and lived in California.  I can't remember if she came from somewhere in the South before Maine though.  It was a pleasure to listen to the performance.

There are some things I enjoyed more than others in this book.
The fact that the main character is a grown woman with her own business, a teenaged son, and an interesting profession is one of them.
The dogs is the other.

I didn't like this book as much as I liked the first one.
All the bits and pieces were there, but I didn't click with the story as a whole.
My main issue was how the ladies, lost in the wilderness, even the ones running with the one lady supposed to be used to the wild, made the gravest mistake of all when lost: They kept moving around!

This is something I learned as a very young child: If you get lost - stay where you are!
You might think you can find your way back, but, no. Just: No.
You'll probably only end up more lost than you were in the first place - and in the worst case scenario, the searchers won't find you, because you can end up somewhere they've already searched, after the fact. (This did in fact happen too!) So... Yeah.

Not even once was this mentioned or discussed by the women supposedly used to being out in the wild. It felt so fake and false to me, I wanted to scream at them.
Sure, the situation was made very difficult because a madman was hunting the group with weapons - however, the same thing goes for when you are hunted: You find shelter and you HIDE.

You don't run. The more you run, the worse it gets.

The first group of women found actually did just this and they were indeed found first.
All the others kept getting into more and more dangerous situations because they couldn't lay low and hide. Even when they found shelter, they didn't have the brains to not advertise their presence all over the mountain side with light.

(Excuse me while I do my usual, epic eye-roll.)

Jamie, the main character, has the ability to hear the dead. Or something. She hears the thoughts of evil wrongdoers (very much alive) too, for whatever reason.
(If I hear the nickname "baby girl" another time, ever again, it will be too soon!)

This ability was pretty low-key in the first book, but it started more or less screaming in this book. It didn't appeal to me at all, the way it played into the book, this time around.
I was so tired of her dead ex's voice towards the end, I too would have killed him, if I had the chance. No other provocation needed! Listening to him yap would have been enough.
The fact that he was a real a-hole when alive was just an added bonus to make the murderous feeling justified.

Anyway... Without the dogs and all the fun "dog energy" contained within the search, I think I would have noped out of this book, to be honest.
The search itself wasn't all that exciting, more frustrating. But the further into the story I got, the more interesting the murder plot got.
The ending had more payoff than I would have expected and I liked how it wrapped up - just not well enough to raise my rating of the book as a whole.

I might check out the third book to see how Jamie's story ends, but if this series had been longer, I think this instalment might have been my last.

Wow! Edge of your seat suspense!

This novel had more twists and turns then a ride at Disneyland! Inside the Echo, book2 in Jen Bloods series The Flint K-9 Search and Rescue had me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end! Jen's strong female main character Jamie Flint is even more fabulous in this book. Her paranormal gifts are changing and add a bit of spine tingling mystery to an already suspenseful story. There is even more murder and mayhem in book 2 then in any previous Jen Blood novel! Jen allows us to learn more about Jamie's past relationship with her mentor Brock Campbell, which makes Jamie more relatable , if that was even possible. Jen Bloods handling of the very deep dark topic of domestic abuse is masterfully done, exposing different controversies surrounding why women stay with their abusers. And the villains she creates for this story make you want to crawl into the pages of this book and strangle them your self, they are so hateful. The romance between Jamie Flint and Jack Juarez begins to heat up. This is another page Turner that won't let you sleep until you finish reading the last page. And immediately upon finishing you will be reaching for the next book in the series!

Jen Blood is at it again! I was concerned that the second book in this trilogy would be lacking in comparison to her first - The Darkest Thread. Silly me! It was as dynamic!
The balance of a good mystery and the love of dogs just pulls me in completely.
On to the third book, The Redemption Game!

I really enjoyed this story! It pulled me in from the beginning and then the story just kept ramping up so I was really into and engaged by the end. It didn't really feel like there were any flat points or like things stalled out, it just kept steadily ramping up with the intrigue and mystery of what was going on, who was the woods and who was involved. This story was well written and had a great flow. The tension was great as it kept ramping up without being too much. I loved getting to see more of Jamie and Jack and Bear and Wren, along with the dogs. This story is about the search for the missing women and bringing them home safe with an active shooter in the woods as well. We do get to see a little bit more of Jamie's past and get to see her build a little bit more of a connection with Jack as well as getting to see her son Bear and Wren getting closer but the focus is not on those relationships. I loved getting more of Phantom and Casper and watching the dogs work. I really enjoyed this story! It was really good, another great story for this series and I can't wait for more. It is a standalone though.
The narrator did a great job with this story as well. Great with the accent and different voices and really brought the tension and action to life with what was going on with all the characters. I really enjoyed it.

Book 2 of the excellent Flint K-9 series. I was a little disappointed this story didn't have more of the supernatural flair that scared me silly in Book 1, but still an action-packed story.
Inside the Echo finds Jamie and her crew searching for a group of women lost in the snow-covered mountains of Maine. The women have all recently left their abusive husbands.
Sisters Heather and Megan, who own a dog sledding company, are running a team building event for the women. A shot rings out, hitting Megan and the women all scatter into the forest and are soon separated and lost in the snow. It's February.
There is more explanation of Jamie's early life with Brock. Readers fine out how she got the big burn on her side that Jack catches a glimpse of in Book 1.
After finishing this book, I made myself a couple of notes--don't go camping EVER, especially in February. Carry a gun and satellite phone. Don't marry a jerk.

Wow. Edge od the sear search and rescue with search dogs. Authentic. A group od women, all survivors od domestic abuse are engaging in an outdoor survival exercise with an women run outdoor survival outfit. This week is interrupted by gunfire and all of a sudden the women are running to survive. In the wintery mountains of Maine, canine and outdoor wardens are called in to engage in the search. Most of the women are found after a harrowing rescue, but some are still missing.

What follows is an edge of the seat series of canine rescues along with stories of abuse, past domestic trauma, and a little bit of psychic woo-woo.

This is a great, complex set of books, beautifully narrated. Great characters, riveting plot, and fantastic working dogs. Plus a little closer to love....

Phantom and Casper

Jamie Flint and her two best handlers, her son Bear and his friend Ren, are called upon to search in the mountains of Maine. A group of women who has been abused by their husbands before they left them, are on a camping trip when they all disappear leaving their dogs behind and equipment behind. They have all ran away into the woods so are hard to track.
Another great story of dogs and their trainers who go into all kinds of weather such as show and ice here. I tried to put this book down twice but couldn't stay away from it. Finished it about 2am this morning. Great tale for all

Comments on an awesome book

Having read the first two of Jen Blood’s books, I hoped this would be as good. I wasn’t disappointed. The plot and characters kept me engaged the entire time, only to be disappointed that there isn’t a 4th book in the series. Jaime is such a strong, capable woman, independent and brave. I love her character. This was not a teen novel as some series seem to be, neither was it full of sex, violence, yes, but not the sicko kind. Having just returned from New Hampshire and upper NY, I have some feel for the woods and mountains there, though not the winter....ok by me. I would love to read any subsequent books that follow this one.

Another well-paced and tense story. Battered women are on a retreat and someone kidnaps and starts to brutalize them. A rescue team is sent to find them and the best part of the action is learning about how rescue dogs are worked and how they do their job. I actually found the romance between the lead dog handler and one of the FBI agents to be distracting at times, especially because the romantic tension between them seemed artificial. But otherwise this is a good story, good characters and a satisfying resolution.

Inside the Echo by Jen Blood is the 2nd book in the Flint K-9 Search and Rescue Mystery series. Jaimie Flint and her team are called in to search for a group of women who had gone missing while on a wilderness retreat for battered women with Wildfire expeditions. I enjoyed this book much more than I did the first one as we seem to learn more background about the characters and the dogs. This book was more about the search and rescue with more action and suspense and the series seems to be growing on me more.

I like Jen Blood's work very much. Having read the Flint K-9 Search and Rescue mysteries, Im sure
I will read more by this author. The characters are strong but human. I also like the plots of
this series. She does extensive research about how the K-9 search and rescue teams work which
keeps the story quite believable. If you like dedication of people and their dogs who do extremely
dangerous work, you will like this series.

A new author for me and I must say I really enjoyed the two books in the Flink K-9 Search and Rescue series. I am definitely hoping for more books with these characters. The protagonist is a woman with a shadowed past, who runs a search and rescue organization in northern New England, as well as a wildlife rescue center. This particular story involved a lost group of women campers, who were attacked by ... well, you need to read the book. Highly recommended.

I liked it as it was an action book involving the cold and snow and search dogs. A few battered women went on a trek and got lost. The k9 search teams were used to find them. The mystery was which of their husbands were actually trying to kill them out in the wilderness while they were lost. I liked the characters and even the dogs had their own characters. Sorry about the simple description. Not in the mood to think of intelligent sounding rating words. 😄

page turner

The K-9 team is called out for a search. The stories of the team, their dogs as well as other involved keeps you turning the pages. Add in winter storms and rough terrain and trying to figure out how awhile camp of women disappear while all their sled dogs are tied up where they can starve and die. What happened and where are all the women?
I started this today and finished at 12:30 am. Think that makes it a definite five for me.

Excellent. Great focus on women’s rights and current events. Love the teamwork involved with the SAR teams and the handlers in all kinds of conditions and situations. Jamie deals with her public and private life and the life she left behind with Bear’s father. The voices she hears can be helpful or hurting her. She has to deal with her past and future on this trip.

OMG!

What a Book! This was another I had a really hard time putting down. Unfortunately I was at the doctor's office with my husband and was supposed be paying attention when all I really wanted to do was pick up my tablet and read the book! I hope the next one comes soon because it's a great series.

Search and rescue at its best

I'm not very good at writing reviews, but if reading this book in one day says anything, it should say this: Inside the Echo is a page turned. I've read both the Flint K9 S&R bike so far. Both have been great stories. I hope there will be more in this series.

I don't know what to rate this. I'm truly confused by this series/this author's writing. It's not good. The story is BANANAS and unrealistic. All the men characters are practically the same, the only difference being whether they are "good" or "bad." HOWEVER, it's almost so bad it's good. It's like watching a train wreck, you don't want to watch, but you have too.

Excellent follow up to book 1!

A lot happened in this book. A new search, a lot of suspects, pain and strength, each person fighting to keep going. Battered women trying to build new lives, while men that won't let them go wreak havoc on a frozen mountain range. Of course the K-9s that are always the stars of the books.
Well written..moving onto #3

This is the second book I have read by Jen Blood. I enjoyed the stories, regardless of the fact that she writes in first person for some of the narratives. Unusual for me. As from when I read the first book in this series. There was a very graphic scene that I could’ve done without. But it was short, thank goodness.

Great series. I really enjoy search and rescue and K-nine stories. I'm ready for backstory. There are three of this series and then there are five in the Erin Solomon series with backstory for these. Great job!

Very Good Book

Action packed until the end! Who would think that books about search and rescue dogs would be so good? The tales of rescue are very readable, but the stories of how indispensable the dogs are add to the relatability so much for me.

My favorite part of this book was the characters. I had to suspend my disbelief about the plot, and once again, I'm not sure that the supernatural aspect adds anything to this series, though it provides the author an avenue to do flashbacks that reveal more of the main character's past.

Loved it!

I picked up this series looking for more mysteries with dogs. So glad I did! The pace was good and the characters really interesting. Now I'll have to read the Erin Solomon to catch up on the backstory. This is a great mystery.
