Finally! Here is a visually stunning cookbook for teens who are interested in cooking food that goes beyond the boring old "kids" recipes, but is the kind of foods TEENS want to eat.
With many recipes showing the step-by-step process of how the food is made, these recipes take old favorites for all times of day and year--from breakfast muffins, to mac-and-cheese lunches, to fish taco dinners, to chocolate desserts--and updates them with healthy, delicious new ingredients that are better for you (and much yummier) than fast food!
Rozanne Gold's All-Star Team (who tested each recipe and who are pictured in the book) includes boys and girls ages 9-19, siblings and friends. The kids display an amazing energy for the food --whether it's buying fresh ingredients in a farmers' market, or cooking it in exciting new ways. With the emphasis on fresh ingredients, Rozanne Gold and her cooks keep their food healthful, gorgeous and fun to make.
Recommended for gr. 7-up. This eye-catching, colorful cookbook will attract the eyes and taste buds of the reader. The teenage cooks in the photos are part of the "all-star team" that worked with the author to create the book and appear to be middle and high school aged. The recipes are fairly simple with good instructions and vivid photos. Nutritional information for individual recipes is not given, but there is a page by a registered dietician explaining how ingredients were chosen with nutritional values in mind. The recipes are divided into 7 chapters (sandwiches, salads, dinners, etc.) and there is an additional section with suggested menus. The introduction talks about kitchen safety, equipment and ingredients. Highly recommended.
Side note: I also recommend the Chicken "Parm" with Roasted Grape Tomatoes (p. 96) - easy and tasty!
This is geared for young adults and definitely has a strong appeal to food that teens like. The down side is that it is not whole food plant-based as consumption dairy and oil has been shown in many studies as major factors in poor health and obesity. Still the focus in on organic, farmer friendly, made from scratch in lieu of processed foods.
This book is a perfect transition for any cook wanting to make some healthy eats. I love the salad dressing recipes in particular. Kids will eat things that they cook more readily than what you cook.
I wasn't all that impressed with this book. I thought it might help get the kids cooking, but after reading this - I can't imagine any of them looking forward to making anything in here let alone eating it. Honestly, I don't look forward to making or eating anything here. The few things that sounded good, could be found in any cookbook - or not really need a cookbook to be made. Other books that I've read to get kids in the kitchen have been much better.
Multicultural, updated, unexpected - this book puts cauliflower in your mac and cheese, parsnips and prosciutto in your pasta, and uses pitas to make fajitas. Kids are shown getting their hands dirty (or herby at least) and the food looks terrific.
UNFORTUNATELY, we have only field-tested the roasted asparagus in this book, and how hard is it to write a recipe for roasted asparagus? It's not. So I can't evaluate how well the recipes are written yet.
There are some great looking recipes in here, I found quite a few things I think would work really well in a teen program at the library about healthy eating. Very colorful and marketed and designed really well for teenagers.
A really great book! Lots of vegetarian and non-vegetatian recipes abound!
Even one to make your own butter instead of buying from the store. The deserts look especially delicious! May of the recipes will be going into my collection.
I'm going to get this out again to make with my sons. They loved this book. The girls liked it too. Some of the recipes in this book you don't even have to cook!
