It's not a book for audiences of Very Hungry Caterpillar... maybe the expectation thereof explains the semi-literate complaints re' the length. I thought it refreshingly concise & readable compared to much quest folklore.

I'm still wondering about the casual references to the big brothers' "game." I guess partridge, rabbit & squirrel are acceptable, but not the particular 'other brothers' of 'Chip?'

Kid considers animals in nature his brothers and when his human sister is sick they use their special abilities to help him get the medicine she needs. If it's not a folk tale, it sure reads like one, and of course it has Eric Carle's beautiful illustration.

This tale tells about the Native American culture. This does a great job of giving young readers a small background knowledge of the life of a Native America. When chip, a young boy, must travel to find the medicine that will cure his sister’s sickness, he then realizes how much he really cares for her. This shows the unity of family and the care and compassion shown towards your loved ones. This book could be used in several ways in the classroom. A teacher could utilize this book when teaching about different ethnicities and cultures or even have them write a short piece home telling their family why they care so much for them. This could be used for mother’s or father’s day for an art project to be take home and given to the parents as a gift. This book has several great lessons for young students. The overall message of the book is wonderful and it will be added to my classroom library.

Heartwarming book in which a boy's act of kindness is repaid when the animals help him attain medicine for his sick sister. This book is excellent for promoting a sense of humility and togetherness. In the classroom, children should be kind to one another and help each other out. This book portrays those actions and will help the students visualize and think about what they need to do in the classroom to have the kind of relationship that the animal and the boy have in the story.
