If you like to read Jack Reacher story, this isn't one of them. He is just a ghost, Dan Ames is definitely developing his two characters. Short story ended hurriedly.
The Jack Reacher Cases (The Right Man For Revenge) - a review by Rosemary Kenny
Between them Lee Child, Diane Capri and now the ideal author to take up the Reacher 'franchise' (with his expertise in the realms of spy-thrillers, murder-mysteries et al), Dan Ames, have a triumphant triumvirate to keep Jack Reacher alive, year on year and all year long.
Following on seamlessly from Childs' Past Tense masterpiece, we have Ames' second exciting homage of exquisite brevity, (140 pages) in his Jack Reacher Cases series, The Right Man for Revenge. Quite who the man is, at the beginning of this gritty, thrill-a-minute adventure is not determinable - but the MC is definitely ex FBI Special Agent, now PI, Lauren Pauling, with whom 'JR' had a past fling and who now sets off on his trail, after being told bluntly, "Reacher's dead"!
Can it be true? - Of course not, but that still begs the question of whose is the male corpse with Reacher's ATM card and a toothbrush (and nothing else), whose face has been obliterated by the bullet that killed him if not? Only one way to find out for sure - get your copy of The Right Man For Revenge...it'll keep you up all night for sure!
When a body is found with ID on it that says Jack Reacher could it be true? That's the information that Private Investigator Lauren Pauling got. But is it true? As she goes after the killer her case becomes involved with Michael Tallon's missing person case. Together they are forced to deal with drug traffickers and professional killers. Could one of them be the killer Pauling is looking for? This story gets the reader involved right from the get go and does let go until the end. I voluntarily reviewed ARC of this book. It is well worth the price of admission!
Pauling is lured to Seattle to identify a body that supposedly is Reacher. Tallon's former brother in arms dies of cancer and while he's at the funeral he finds out his buddy's sister is missing in Seattle. So the 2 of them wind up coincidentally in the same city. Things are not necessarily what they seem.
Once again the story doesn't actually have anything to do with Reacher and could have stood on its own merits
A former FBI agent, Lauren Pauling, is now a private investigator and she is the main character in this mystery. She had been featured in a previously issued Lee Child Jack Reacher story, The Hard Way. Ms. Pauling is still intrigued with Jack Reacher and thinks of him often. This mystery starts with an anonymous call Ms. Pauling receives that tells her Jack Reacher is dead. That starts an investigation on her part to try to confirm or debunk that claim. The story rolls on from there. The secondary character is a former U.S. military specials ops soldier, Michael Tallon, who is often engaged as a free lance contractor to assist Ms. Pauling in her investigations. Both of these two characters play prominent roles in this story. Initially the story builds and provides sufficient plot to pull you in and expect a good read. Just as I thought the story was reaching an interesting action scene that would further the plot along, it instead ended very abruptly and in a less than satisfactory fashion. Questions that I had were left unanswered concerning some super-secret European organization and our special ops man was acting rashly and not at all in character with a special forces operator. This story turned out to be a short novella rather than a full-blown mystery.
"Who the **** is Jack Reacher?" Another quick to read, exciting story by Dan Ames, written in a style similar to that of Reacher's creator, Lee Chi?d. Snappy sentences, clear descriptions and action filled plot line. A long distance sniper's shot to the head leaves the body of a man to be discovered by the roadside in a deserted area the next morning. His facial features have been obliterated by the gunshot and the subsequently arriving wildlife, but he is tall, six foot five, well built, with no luggage other than a toothbrush and an ATM card - in the name of Jack Reacher. Who killed him, and why? And is it connected to the shooting a senator which happened shortly after?
My thanks to the author for gifting me a prepublication copy of his book.
I love the Reacher series with Lee Childs and then Diane Capri putting her spin and now Dan Ames adding his twist to it. It starts with Reacher being shot in the back of the head carrying nothing but his ATM card and a toothbrush and moves on to a former love/lust interest from the FBI who is now a PI and can't accept Reachers death. The twist and turns in this book are fast and furious and keeps you wanting more. I look forward to Dan adding more books to this series.
This was a fast paced thriller in which Lauren Pauling and Michael Tallon were brought together by an unknown force. Are there two separate mysteries to be solved, or is it possible that both Pauling and Tallon are actually investigating the same case? My only complaint would be that this was a relatively short story, which was a very quick read but left me wanting more. Loved the unfolding of the mystery and can't wait for the next book.
Jack Reacher...assassinated...no that can't be RIGHT. Well that's what we're left to think about..is it true or is this some sort of set up.... Who can keep track of Jack Reacher, he's anywhere and no where. He's an untraceable and untrackable...some may call him a ghost or some insignificant ex-army man who lives below the grid. Well this leaves all of us kinda wondering where is Jack Reacher....¿?¿?
Lauren Pauling, former FBI, currently a private investigator. An extremely good one. She received information from an anonymous source that Reacher is dead. Murdered. She is devastated. She has to confirm. It's a clever ruse to lure her good friend and sometimes partner Tallon to the scene. They know he will help her any way he can. Extremely fast paced thriller. Enjoyed tremendously.
Read time 4:24 Interesting concept to this series Jack Reacher is mentioned but never actually appears. Lauren Pauling who briefly has a romantic tryst with Reacher has received a mysterious call, asking her to identify the body of a homicide, believed to be Reacher. At the same time Tallon, while attending a funeral of a comrade, finds out that his buddy’s sister is missing and was last seen in the Seattle area, where coincidentally Pauling is investigating the case involving Jack Reacher.
Although not a Reacher novel a very good read. As with the previous Pauling/Tallon novel a, shot and very faster paced. Was hoping Dan Ames would continue this saga was disappointed that it was a novel a and not the full blown novel these two characters deserve. But being an Ames fan I expect t it is coming soon.
I found this book very entertaining. I have followed Lee Child and Diana Capri for ever. Following Dan Ames will be real delight. Former FBI Special Agent, PI, Lauren Pauling is off on the adventure hoping to meet Jack Reacher again. She is trying to solve the case of a researcher on birds on a government island. Dan puts it together well. I was a nail biter to the end.
... the ending was a bit anticlimactic. Combined with calling yourself "Reacher cases" and Reacher never even makes a cameo appearance is not nice to a hardened Reacher fans as myself. Still, a good read.
Love Jack Reicher series. This series is interesting. Good character developed. Could expand situations a little at times. Really think these could be expanded to much longer books. This one ends abruptly. Still good read and ordered next one already.
Jack Reacher, dead? Lauren Pauling tells that to the police after viewing the body. But something else is going on. Michael Tallon and Pauling end up in the same town on two different cases. This was a good book. Not as good as the other two. Not as complex.
This is a compelling read, being fast paced with a great plot full of mystery, murder and revenge. Very enjoyable indeed. I can easily recommend this to anyone who likes a good thrill and fast paced events in books. Very well done.
Pauling is challenged when she receives a simple note, Reacher has been found dead. She can’t quite believe this is true without confirming the body is his. This leads to a kidnapping, a beating and an exciting ending. A very quick, easy read. ENJOY!
I'm not fond of this spinoff series though I'll read the 3 in the bundle I bought. A lot of more or less pointless action by groups and people we know nothing about. Our hero (not Jack Reacher who, once again is talked about but not present) to the rescue, kills a bunch people. Hooray.
This is a excellent book intrigue, power and betrayal. I highly recommend reading books by Dan Ames and I look forward to the next book in this series.
This author has done it again. I just love these Jack Reacher cases! All in this series are short reads but very fast paced and action packed. You do not have to read them in any order to enjoy them.
I enjoy every one of the Jack Reacher cases. They are written in a way so that you can pick any up an read them and not miss anything. They are all fast quick reads. Very action packed.
Another fast paced story that I enjoyed! He carries some of the same characters over to this book but it still stands alone, which is what I like. Definitely an awesome author. 5.
