Lily is 9. Her sister Daisy is 1. And she's no ordinary baby. Somehow, when she was born, something went rather wrong... and now Daisy is a Witch Baby. Nobody knows this but Lily - she's the only one who can see when Daisy makes the fridge float in the air, or turns people into slugs, or summons up her very stinky dog Waywoof...

The sisters have just moved to a new neighbourhood, and their mum wants them to make friends. She decides to throw a party and send Lily and Daisy out to deliver the invitations. They meet some odd characters along the way... Will the party be a big success or will Daisy's magic mean things are even more chaotic than normal?

About the author

Debi Gliori (born 1959) is a Scottish author and illustrator of children's books.
She grew up as an only child in Glasgow, and when young began drawing and writing stories. She started writing children's books in 1976, and attended art school in Edinburgh from 1979 to 1984. She then received a travelling scholarship award to go to Milan, and worked as a freelance from 1984 onwards.
She is the author/illustrator of many books for children including Mr Bear, the winner of a Children's Book Award. She is best known for her black comedy Pure Dead series for older children, which display strong elements of family lives amid dark and fantasy-based plots.

I especially enjoyed this one, because I happen to have a new baby at home myself. And I remember growing up there were plenty of things I told people my youngest sister did that no one else seemed to witness. A fun, fast read that made me laugh out loud many times. The storytelling style reminds me of Roald Dahl - so I will definitely be on the lookout for more!

This was a very funny book and my children loved it.

If follows the story of Lilly, who just happens to be the elder sister of a witch-baby, whose spells include conjuring a foul smelling dog (that no one else can see and blames the smells on Lilly), turning her into a slug and putting her head on back to front.

Witch-Baby's antics are sure to amuse and titillate adult and child alike. My only quibble, and it was a very minor one, was sometimes the shift between the Witches point of view and Lilly's was very abrupt, and I found myself talking in 'witches' voice when it should have been Lilly - when reading out loud to the children.

Still this was a seriously amusing read and I will definitely be reading the series with my children - who can't wait to get into the next book.

AHhhhh, so funny. I want to read all the sequels now. Light hearted and fun, the narration reminded me a lot of terry pratchett. I love the bungling evil witches and the whole blue moon connection. And really, witch baby is adorable. Jake, the older brother, AKA Tssss, tsss, tsss, mcHeadphones. Loved it.

5/5 - My favourite ever children’s book, a childhood read. My best friend at the time had gifted this to me. I’ll never forget that thanks to her I got into reading, and this was the first ever book she lent me.

With its funny, witty narration and sisterhood-tied story, this book brought many, many joys to me when I was younger. I also had a baby sister who I had to baby sit a lot, so all in all this book felt very relevant to me. I’ll forever keep this book!

I made it to about page 25 of this book before deciding that life was too short to spend time reading things I didn't like.

If I were 8 years old, I may well have loved the random words in stupid fonts, the unnecessary repetition of things that weren’t funny and the slightly patronising narrative tone. As it is, I am a 24 year old and it annoyed me intensely in the space of 25 pages.

It reminded me heavily of Mr Gum and the Biscuit Billionaire which I detested so if you like Mr Gum you will love this.

I could have done without all the poo jokes but otherwise a fun new series for younger readers. Fans of her Pure Dead Magic books will probably find this too babyish but 1st-3rd graders will love the story of a young girl with a witchy baby sister (and an invisible, smelly dog). Full of really nice black and white illustrations that add to the fun of the story.

This is the first book in the Witch Baby And Me series.It is very enjoyable and funny.The main character is Lily McRae,who moves to Scotland with her family.There are also two witches,and one toad(who used to be a witch before The Accident)who turn Lilys baby sister Daisy into a witch while shes still in hospital.But the strange thing is that Lily is the only one who can see Daisy is a witch!
