Henry Ward Beecher said “the common sense of one century is the common sense of the next.” That said, these pocket-sized humor books pack quite a bit of punch―lines that is. With more than 1.5 million copies in print, their all-new look will leave a whole new generation in stitches!
This book is filled with sayings of about a cowboys life like the best place to look for a stray is were you would go your self and this ismy favirote most people r like bob-wire fences they have there good points.
One of the most imporant parts is at the very front of the book the first saying here it is THE CODE OF THE WEST Write with your heart. Stand by the code, and it will sastnd by you. Ask no more and give no less than honesty, couarge, loyalty, generosity, and fairness.
The book is 138 pages long and every page has a saying on it i am so glad i got this book i now know what is waht to do in a situation ex. my friend is getting bullied we r in the desert and there is no one to tell i do not know what to do i would pule out my book and on page 1 it says dont never interfere with something that aint bothering you none.
Wow. I learned so much from this book, such as "Don't get mad at somebody who knows more than you do; it ain't their fault." or "Never grumble. It makes you about as welcome as a sidewinder in a cow camp." But my personal favorite was, "A woman's heart is like a campfire. If you don't tend to it regular, you'll soon lose it." Truer cowboy wisdom has never been spoken.
Thanks Mike Neumann, for educating me on the ways of the range. Wait, have you ever *been* on a range? ;)
Brilliant! Hilarious. We picked this up in a thrift store in Waxahatchee, Texas. Worth every cent of the $2.00 paid!
Some of my favourite pieces of wisdom: "Never take to sawin' on the branch that's supportin' you, unless you're bein' hung from it". "When you're tryin' somethin' new, the fewer people who know about it the better." "Any time a large herd moves through a civilised area there's a lot of shit to clean up."
This book is best read as if you are a person who is being told advice by an older southern man. Take it with a grain of salt, 3/4 of it is just boasting, but if you want to, you'll walk away with something useful.
Some good info, some weird sayings that I have heard before and liked (some that I hate), and some sayings that I have never heard that made me think...
Simply life advice from the point of a cowboy to all that he interacts with. A lot of common sense. It may be a chuckle in many parts and I was entertained in this short book.
I'm kind of ashamed to consider this a "book a I read in 2015" as it took me like 15 minutes. But it is a book, I marked about 20 says that I thought were AWESOME and wanted to keep around - ergo - I'm counting it.
I actually bought this for my dad for christmas - and I think he will enjoy it. It's quick and full of gems like
"'Don't be sawing on the branch that supports you, unless you're being hung from it."
"After eating an entire bull, a mountain lion was so full he kept roaring and roaring until a hunter came along a shot it. Moral of the story - if you're full of bull keep your mouth shut."
"The easiest way to eat crow is while it's still warm. The colder it is the harder it is to swallow."
"A woman's heart is like a campfire, if you don't tend to it regular, it tends to go out."
This is a "book" of saying, cowboy style. If you have a literal imagination the visions of the result of some of these saying will have you laughing till your sides hurt.
As a bonus there are small silhouettes in the upper corner of the right hand page; close the book and riffle quickly through those pages to see a cowboy mount his horse and ride off, get thrown when they meet a snake.
A compendium of cowboy "wisdom." Nothing deep here but each page has one saying or one sentence or one idea or one observation full of folk wisdom and decorated with a bit of cartoon drawing. I've had it for years and pick it up occasionally in hope that I'll read something I've forgotten I enjoyed.
Picked up the book after Dad mentioned a hilarious quote. Don't Squat with Yer Spurs On! is a super quick read as it contains short quotes/advice on life. Some are hilarious, some are extremely true, and others were very confusing. I'd recommend this book for someone who wants a quick quirky read. This will also make a good gift for the cowboys in your life.
Funny and surprisingly deep. This is a quick ten to fifteen-minute read full of old cowboy idioms. Some of the phrases are funny, and others are philosophical, but all of them are true to life. I would recommend this book to be a bathroom reader for those people who are looking for old-school philosophy while they do a quick duty.
This little gem has an answer, or at least an opinion, on all sorts of subjects with a refreshingly tell-it-like-it-is philosophy that is quite profound even if old-fashioned. It's quite rare, but see if you can find this one.
