About the author

Jean Fischer is a professional writer with a solid background in publishing. While an editor at Golden Books, she oversaw the creative development of activity books and award-winning audio and book products. As a freelance writer, she co-wrote books with Christian authors Thomas Kinkade, John MacArthur, and John C. Maxwell and created devotions for the popular children's series Adventures in Odyssey concepted by Dr. James Dobson.

Jean writes Christian literature for adults as well as children's picture books, board books, nonfiction books and K-6 Language Arts workbooks and textbooks. She also creates promotional material for a leading fast-food restaurant. Her recent books include four preteen novels in the Camp Club Girls series published by Barbour Books and A Charles Dickens Devotional by Thomas Nelson.

Jean holds degrees in elementary education and library science and an advanced certificate in technical communication.

Fun storyline but a little on the implausible side for me. I liked how the girls worked together and the Bible verses that were incorporated for what they were facing. The setting and learning about Fort Meade was also a fun element. Enjoyed this one.

This might be my favorite book out of the series! Although a personal pet peeve of mine is when a president is mentioned in a book, without actually having been a president (a "made up" president), this book was super exciting, albeit unrealistic. It is exactly this kind of suspension of disbelief in a middle-grade book that I enjoy. The plot was really exciting all the way through and kept me hooked. There were also a lot of clues and enough danger and high enough stakes that made it a fun read.

This was actually the first book of this series that I read. It was so fun! It was an easy read by far! But I still loved it. I kept my attention. I actually have read it so many times since I can recite the first page by memory!
The clues were fun to figure out on my own. Sydney is definitely my favorite camp club girl! Anyone who loves DC would love the imagery of the book and making out where these girls go in the city.

Summary: Elizabeth has come up to DC to visit Sydney while her uncle is there for a Vietnam veteran’s reunion. When visiting the memorial, the girls find some mysterious messages left behind. Elizabeth has a bad feeling about them. Can the Camp Club Girls solve the mystery before someone gets hurt?

My thoughts: I liked that the author tried to put in a message about not getting revenge, and leaving it up to God to work out. However, I felt like it was kind of an add-on. Elizabeth says a couple times at the beginning that she’s mad because it’s not fair that her uncle was paralyzed. Then at the end she says that seeing what revenge did to the other people, she doesn’t want that anymore and she’s willing to leave the problem with God. It wasn’t very well-developed, but at least the author tried.
I did enjoy the story, but it was completely unrealistic. A 12-year-old and a 14-year-old find out about a terrorist case – they solve it and save the president from assassination – without any help from any law enforcement or grownups. Well, I guess the FBI was there at the end to help them out.
That being said, I was hooked to the story until the end, because I wanted to find out what happened.

Mini-review: I enjoyed this. There were some things the bugged me, like the reuse of some characters names, while making it realistic also made it confusing. I also love how in kids books they always manage to save the world. Although I'm baffled by how the parents don't care. If my kid saved the world, I'd be in awe.

The second book in the Camp Club Girls series published by Barbour Publishing does not disappoint. This one takes us to Sydney Lincoln's hometown of Washington D.C. and brings Elizabeth along for a visit along with her uncle.


This time the girls are onto a very suspicious plot and we get to follow them around D.C. and the surrounding area as they pick up the clues and work them out together in their Camp Club Girls chatroom they have created online. Kate also briefly comes in from Philadelphia in this one too.


I enjoyed seeing more of the girls and learning more about Sydney and Beth. They are learning more about their faith and their lives. They try to approach problems as best they can and they love looking for clues and trying to help out others.

It's another inspirational and fun book for your tweens - I enjoyed it and I can see young teenage girls with a love of mystery enjoying this series also. After reading the first two I am really excited to read the rest of the series.

Ms. Fischer does a great job continuing the series seamlessly. I feel the girls are the same ones I met in book one and book two just expands on the girls and their adventures.

Yes, I said I would not read this series again, Forgive me ! In the second book of the Camp Club Girls series, this book focuses on two of the six girls, Sydney and Elizabeth. The author did a better job of including more action into this book. The purpose of this book is some weird and dangerous mysteries are going on at the Vietnam Memorial in the nation's capital. The girls unravel as many clues as they can before it is too late. Like I already said, this would be a great book to introduce to your little sister. If you read like me, this book would not be appealing to you at all. That is all I have to say.

Camp Club Girls

I'm just starting the book and it is already AWESOME!!! I would advise to read the first book better so you will know more about the girls and Kate's dog biscuit.

So far there's some danger and there may be some terrorists around the corner. Strange things start happening at the Vietnam honor wall. Will the girls solve the clues before the terrorists strike? Read it and you will find out!!!

Recommended for 10-15 yr olds.

After reading this book twice, my 7th grader convinced me to read it. I have to agree that it is more exciting than the first book in this series about Christian teen detectives. The fruit along the Vietnam War Memorial was goofy. The ending was different than I had guessed.
