A frosty reception… Staying with her Aunt Harriet and Uncle Jasper at the beautiful Holbrook House seems the ideal place for Alana Cadogan after breaking things off with her best friend and long-term fiancé, Oliver Cootes. All of Alana’s plans for the future have come to naught and the horrifying prospect of the season and the marriage mart looms large on her horizon. Still, at least she has the comfort of family, her dear friend Lady Catherine ‘Cat’ Barrington, and… Well, there’s always a catch.
A man of God… The Reverend Harry Martin has just about had enough. If it isn’t young women following him about, lying in wait for him, and trying their best to get him in a compromising situation, now there’s Miss Cadogan to deal with. The dreadful girl is outspoken, opinionated and rubs Harry up the wrong way whenever they cross paths. She’s also beautiful, kind, and on his mind far too often.
When confession is good for the soul… The problem is, clergymen ought not look like Harry Martin. It just isn’t natural. A vicar ought to be old and dusty and smell of mothballs. The Reverend Martin is young and vigorous and, yes—a bit of a prig, but looking like a fallen angel can only lead a girl into temptation, and trouble, and Alana is more than ready for both.
Salvation comes in many forms… As Alana hears Harry’s confession and comes to understand him, and to love him, Harry must come to terms with the fact he can never be a fit husband for anyone, let alone lovely Lana. But when good triumphs over evil and Alana helps make all right with the world, perhaps she can bring him salvation too, if only Harry dares to believe it.

Will he understand not all temptations lead to unforgiving sin…
Sure, it was very wrong of me. But I did not await this story like I did for the last ones. I had in some way less expectations, outside the happiness of cozying up with what I knew would be a good story. While I was, of course, curious, there had not been the same build-up as for of course Matilda and Montagu, Evie and Louis, or even Barnaby’s stories. Sure, in recent books, there had been some mention of the too beautiful vicar, but it was more like some passing hints. In some way, this book was closer to a standalone story than many others. A good starting point if someone wants to discover this series without going backwards some 30 books before. Sure, many of the visiting side characters are well known to us readers from the outset, but even for someone new, the romance part needs no recounting of what came before.
Alana is a Cadogan, whose surname in itself means chaos and disorder. She is no woman to stand quietly on the side, she takes matter in her own hands. Why, she was the one who ended her long-standing betrothal when she realized she wanted more from a spouse than a great friendship. Harry repented himself for his younger self mistakes and sins, he has turned a new leaf, one devoted to help those around him. And Alana’s arrival threatens everything he has built during the last years. She is temptation’s incarnated, she makes him long for more but also scares him to want more.
And , of course, it would not be A Daring Daughters installment if not for the snippets of letters or scraps of scenes distilled this and there to enrapture us even more. As who’s to be the next daring daughter, I expect it might be Emmeline, the next book’s cover showcasing a brunette. Yet Cat, Montagu’s daughter is left here is quite a situation but knowing Emma V Leech, she will twist it in some way we won’t see coming like she did after Sinfully Daring with Evie’s attempted kidnapping.
But to come back to the original romance, this is one lovely lively story of two flawed characters who seek the right path now they have attended to their past errors. 5 stars

I genuinely don't know how Emma does it! Each book she writes is so captivating and I get completely sucked in to them.
I don't normally review books unless I've received an ARC but this book is so amazingly written that I had to share it.
Harry Martin is my new favourite hero. As a recovering alcoholic myself, this book hit differently with me than any of Ms. Leech's others and the way that Harry's struggle was written was just incredible. Its difficult to understand the daily struggle of someone who has issues with alcohol if you haven't experienced it yourself and the scene with Montagu offering Harry a brandy was just top par.
So many books write about the profligate drunkards with no redemption that it's wonderful to see one where they come out the other side.
Alana was the perfect daughter for Harry and their chemistry was off the scale!
It's always wonderful to have snippets of Cat and Kilbane and Emmeline and Wrexham too!!
As with most of Emma's books, I give this 5 stars!

A while ago now I discovered that while waiting for this author's next book there is to be no anxious feelings, I don't wait with any apprehension that I'll be disappointed. Truly. If you're an avid reader of this author's works then you know you'll be in for a treat and this one is no exception. We have new characters that are just wonderful and surrounded by previous characters we all love and cherish.....oh, Montagu, you're still a favourite. It's safe to say that Emma V Leech is my favourite author, hands down. She's fantastic. Well, I highly recommend this book and now I'm going to finish this review because I'm going to go straight back to the beginning and enjoy this wonderful world Emma has invented for us all over again. Thank you Emma and please, keep 'um coming.
What a great addition to the Daring Daughters series.
Alana and Harry are complete opposites, but they find common ground when it comes to helping a young boy who is in trouble and who needs a helping hand. Not only that but they both only what's good for the community.
And while working side by side with each other they both start realizing that they bring out the best in each other.
She becomes his rock and he becomes her hero.
I thoroughly enjoyed this story from beginning to end.
Book 16 joins the previous novels by Emma V Leech in the continuing tales of the Daring Daughters. For those of us who have read the Girls Who Dare series it’s always nice to see some of your favorite characters make an appearance! Including a feathered friend! After reading these novels the characters seem familiar and a reader looks forward to “what comes next” I personally cannot wait for the next installment!!!
Alana and Cat together - guaranteed laughs and trouble. I pitied the poor vicar before I even knew his background story. Once again, this author produced a humorous book with all the friends and family loyalty the rest of the series has. Excellent characters, dialog, storyline, and ending. Yet, once again, there are so many questions that need to be answered in future books.
Emma Leech works her magic once again! Giving us a powerful love story and anticipation for the stories to come! Alana and Harry complement each other perfectly. While we as the reader watch their love grow we are favored with teasers of powerful stories to unfold leaving us with immense amounts of anticipation for the release of the next book! Thank you Ms. Leech for once again out doing yourself and leaving us fans beyond satisfied!
I'm just loving this series! It was so hard to put down. It was well written and a page turner. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. Can't wait to see what happens with Emmeline and Cat!
Regardless of the story line...which was WONDER Emma is so wonderful at making you feel ALL the emotions ! I LOVE ANYTHING WITH MONTAGUE OH THAT MAN !!! Can't wait for the next one !!!!!!
You have to read this series! But first read The Girls Who Dare Series. They are all stand alone But so fulfilling when read in order. This one I couldn't put down. Read through it even during my lunch. Alana and Harry are perfect together. And Harry is the most swoon worthy vicar!
Lovely story about wild Alana and the Vicar. He was trying to amend his scandalous path by becoming a man of the cloth. Life has other plans for the vicar
I knew I would like it (like everything she creates) but wasn’t sure I would love it. What was I thinking - Ms Leech never disappoints, another phenomenal book!
Emma Leech does it again. Wonderful characters, chaos, love, and happiness. Emma's series never disappoints. In this edition, she balanced three adventures bringing one to an HEA and leaving readers guessing about the two unresolved loves.
This is another magnificently crafted story that continues this amazing series with aplomb. The emotion and brilliantly created characters, make this a truly captivating read that has a steamy ending.
I really enjoyed Alana and Harry’s story. Two minor characters in previous books who finally got their own stories. They were very engaging characters and the plot had lots of twists and turns as per usual for this series (those twists and turns were in the main story and the many intriguing subplots). Can’t wait for the next book.
Per my typical 3 month cycle, I finished my quarterly Emma V. Leech historical romance. I never want Emma to stop writing these!
But, I will say this didn't quite hit the right mark for me. It was fine (ok, maybe more on the 2-star side, I physically cannot rate this lower bc I LOVE this series)... but there was something off with the chemistry between Alana Cadogan and Reverend Harry Martin.
The first ~50% of the book almost didn't feel like a romance at all. Harry found Alana attractive and decided to ignore her, and Alana ran around with Cat to prepare for an auction to raise money for... something (the church?). Anyways - the story was really missing the romance/a real plot? Don't get me wrong, I adored the side story progressions with Emmeline and the blind marquess//Cat and Kilbane, but I shouldn't have preferred reading those chapters/letters more than the actual story, ya know?
I also didn't love the setting. Usually we have more characters around and it creates a very charming scene of house parties and lovely interactions. This felt very much set apart - with Alana and Cat having a pretty quiet visit to the St. Clair estate before the season starts. It wasn't bad, per say, but it wasn't my favorite.
Then towards the end of the story, when we finally receive information about Harry's past, I was left a bit disappointed. I expected Harry to have a very very sordid past - like drunkenly killing a family in an accident/leaving a women with a bastard child - something extreme right? No, it ends up that he was an alcoholic and... that's it. I felt like the story was alluding to a dark, specific event (connected to him waking up in an alley/when the Reverend found him) that happened. But there was almost no follow up on that - which makes me wonder if it will be revealed in a later book (Kilbane/Cat's since Kilbane seems to have some sort of connection to Harry), or maybe it's nothing.
I absolutely loved Alana and Harry’s story. Alana is just like her mother, spontaneous, daring and extremely loyal. Harry has a past and wants to keep it there. He’s been making up for his past these 5 years as a vicar but when he meets Alana, who in his mind her calls Artemis it seems these past 5 years lessons are being thrown out the window. Reverend Martin doesn’t believe he deserves a happily ever after so he avoids the women of the parish and visitors of all ages. But when Alana keeps creeping into his life a throws him off kilter can he take a chance. Alana thinks the vicar dislikes her but that is far from the truth. They seem to be constantly thrown together and feelings changing. When Alana not only saves little Jebs life but maybe the Reverends also. A beautifully written story with a wonderful ending.
Once again Emma takes an unlikely couple ( a vicar and a headstrong outspoken irreverent young lady) and combines them with just the right amount of banter, frustration, angst, humor, and romance that makes these books so enjoyable. Additionally, she has given her readers enough foreshadowing on future couples to keep us on our toes for years! A beautifully satisfying love story, that naturally leaves us wanting the next… and next…. And next. Brilliant!
Alana"s character was outrageously Wonderful & Entertaining. Harry was Wonderful as well but in a different way. This series has so wonderful, I don't want it to end.
I am excited to read Emmeline & Leander Steyning. Story next.
I really enjoyed this, Harry and Alana are adorable and I (mostly) believe Alana's scrapes. What took a star off for me was Harry asking Alana not to let him 'fall'. By all means share the woe and the struggle but don't make it her responsibility.
With great regret, I just finished this book (after starting this morning). I began reading Emma V Leech as I had nothing else on my list, her book was on display on Amazon, and had great reviews. Since then I have read every single story she wrote, and became one of my favorite writers of all time! As I am reading around 250 books per year that means something to me. Her books seem to get better and better! Her writing is the perfect balance of great plot, laughter, passion, and romance. Can't wait to see Marquesses of Wrexam and Klibane brought up to scratch! Hopefully posthaste :)
