Blood Muse is a timeless collection of tales to put with such as Polidori's The Vampyre and Bram Stoker's Dracula, all set in the world of the arts - in painting, sculpture, music, the cinema, the theater and the dance, among others. It is for those lovers of the arts who like their entertainment dripping with high culture, and who enjoy scarifying tales of the artist's dark obsession with immortal fame, featuring contributions from outstanding authors, selected and edited by master anthologists Esther M. Friesner and Martin H. Greenberg.

Very few highlights in a mediocre collection of short stories.
The idea to link the various arts with vampire-legends is good. The editors have published some very good fantasy anthologies over the years. And still... most of the stories here have solid plots but aren't really enjoyable because the authors are trying too hard to fit the theme of the book. And a lot of the stories haven't aged very well - compared to recent fantasy works, many of the efforts published in this collection are extremely conventional (much more so than several 19th century classics who are still suspenseful and original). The only standout is Laura Anne Gilman's "Exposure" (a story that has been re-published in other anthologies since then).
