The trouble started in Greece with a favor for her new father-in-law. When Poppy Fields picked up a package in Athens, she had no idea how many people were interested in its contents. Desperately interested. Murderously interested.
Now she's on the run, racing across Turkey in a cat-and-mouse game with multiple killers. Because what's in the package could change the world.
Julie Mulhern is the USA Today bestselling author of The Country Club Murders and the Poppy Fields Adventures.
She is a Kansas City native who grew up on a steady diet of Agatha Christie. She spends her spare time whipping up gourmet meals for her family, working out at the gym and finding new ways to keep her house spotlessly clean--and she's got an active imagination. Truth is--she's an expert at calling for take-out, she grumbles about walking the dog and the dust bunnies under the bed have grown into dust lions.
The eighth book in the Poppy Fields’ series and just as enjoyable as the previous seven. If you like your spy/thriller/adventure series to be realistic – this probably isn’t for you. But, if you are willing to suspend your disbelief for a couple of hours, then you are in for a treat. The story races along at a breakneck speed across Europe and Turkey. There are double-crossing billionaires, guns, dead bodies galore, abductions, rescue, more abductions, high fashion, an attack-chihuahua and a package whose contents threaten world security. And, a bit of romance and tour guiding thrown in too for good measure. The writing is – as usual – very witty. The main characters: socialite Poppy, her drop-dead-gorgeous boyfriend/minder Mark (aka Thor) and bacon-loving chihuahua Consuela make a great team, trying to track down (and hold on to) the repeatedly stolen package that Poppy’s Russian billionaire step-father has asked her to collect. Consuela is the most diminutive member of the team, but don’t let her size – nor the cute picture on the cover – mislead you. Consuela is probably the most dangerous of the three – as several of the baddies discover. Part of me hopes that eventually Poppy and Thor will have and undisturbed week or two together, with no international intrigue or guns – but where would be the fun in that?
Fast paced, action-packed adventure through Istanbul. I loved how this one continued right where the last one left off (can’t remember if they are all like this); no wonder they were so tired! It was also fun that she was distracted with shopping even with the bad guys chasing after her. Can’t wait for the next one!
Fun fun fun.Poppy and Thor aka Mark just want to have some down time but doing a favor for her new father in law sure comes with strings, kidnappings, gunfire, dead bodies, car chases, Consuela ready to bite, and a possible visit to see Thor’s parents????? This was go go go almost from page one! Fast, witty, humorous, Poppy and the gang are ready for adventure.
Fast Paced Fun! As usual, Poppy and Thor—er, Mark—are up to their necks in trouble from the get go in Mulhern’s latest offering! For a refreshing change, Poppy’s LA friends are MIA, but she still manages a little bit of a presence on social media and also squeezes in some fantastic shopping in between kidnappings and near-mutilations. This book is jam-packed with action, adventure, intrigue and even a small spattering of romance! Well done!
This series just seems to continue to spin its wheels. I know what I'm getting going in and that's all I really expect at this point. It was nice to see a tiny bit of progress for Poppy & Mark with where it ended though. 2.5 stars rounded up.
I really missed Poppy and Thor, and this took !e right back into their stories. Julie Mulhern does a terrific job of wrapping me I to the story so I can't stop reading. Poppy didn't lose any of her attitude toward shopping, and of course, getting kidnapped. And even in the thick of everything, Poppy never forgets the innocent folks!
If you are new to this series, do NOT read this book first. You will be totally confused by the characters and the reasons behind the plot.
I have thoroughly enjoyed Julie Mulhern’s other books and was so looking forward to this one, but I was disappointed. Disappointed in the number of typos, misspellings and poor editing. Disappointed in the lack of character development. Disappointed in the lack of suspense.
I understand these books are meant to be light and fluffy, but I can’t quite suspend my disbelief this much.
(For what it is worth, I was reading the kindle version from our public library.)
This book is littered with misspellings & even incorrect character names. It's like no one even read it before publishing. I do love this series though & can only hope that if there is a follow up book, that it's better edited. Unfortunately the errors in it knocks it to 3 stars for me. It was annoying to try to decipher what a sentence actually said due to the poor editing.
Enjoyable fluff. Unfortunately the ebook was riddled with errors that should have been easily caught and corrected if anyone had taken the time to read through it before publication.
This is the eighth book in the Poppy Fields Adventure series and it still continues to be a hoot to read. If you enjoy Stephanie Plum, I think you’ll enjoy this series. This time Poppy and Mark, aka Thor, are trying to enjoy their vacation time on Yurgi’s island. This was after they stopped in Greece to pick up a package for her new step father. Was that a big mistake. Now they’re trying to stay alive as well as chase the people who are after what’s inside that box. Because it can change the world as we know it if it gets into the wrong hands. So it’s up to her, Mark, her dad and of course Consuela to recover the contents. Julie Mulhern does a great job of describing the location, people and Poppy’s shopping habit for couture clothes, including purses. I hated to put it down because I thoroughly enjoyed it. I laughed as well as got concerned for Poppy and her crew. Definitely looking forward to more adventures, or is it misadventures? Can’t wait.
Poppy and Mark, aka Thor, and Consuela are back on Yurgi Prokhorov’s private island trying to get some rest and relaxation after the last adventure they stumbled into detailed in “Field’s Guide to Smuggling” when they are awakened by gunshots in the night. Men of power, wealth and intrigue pop in and out of this latest Poppy Field’s action adventure. This tale never slows down. Julie Mulhern weaves another good story with such vivid detail that you feel you are right there in the thick of it. Her character’s and dialog never fail. Thank you Julie for another great read!!! ❤️📚
This book was just as good as every one of Ms Mulhurn’s books. It’s hard waiting so long to receive a new book and finish then in a couple of days (#writefaster). This one delivered to my Kindle at the tail end of my first and worst case of Covid. So color my statements with that. There seemed to be more editing errors on this book. Goofy middle school errors like stakc instead of stack.Which I had to type three times on my iPad so …. A few others scattered. I love Talking to my dog. We hold great conversations during the day. But can’t she talk to Thot more? I loved this story. It was out of the threat of getting too much the same. Thank you again for sharing you work with us.
This is my first Julie Mulhern book not loved and finished in 24 hours. As other reviewers have commented the poor proofreading was distracting. Not returning the book- as I did read the whole book and enjoyed catching up on the characters. Poppy has always risen to the occasion when killing is essential- but this book she seemed quite comfortable and unbothered with the taking of life. I’ll definitely buy the next books - everyone has an off day - but hope it’s a written a little tighter and includes a bit of the fun of which we are accustomed.
Join Poppy and Thor on their latest adventures that include a Greek Island and Istanbul Turkey.
The action is non-stop yet Poppy always finds a place to shop, even in the middle of evading kidnappers. Helping her Mom's boyfriend by transporting a box to another location suddenly has Poppy in grave danger. Keeping one step ahead of the villains is exhausting.
This was a fast read as I didn't want to put it down and possibly miss any of the suspense.
Julie Mulhern’s imagination is wild but wonderful. I thoroughly enjoy the scrapes that Poppy Fields gets into with her hunk boyfriend, Thor, or rather Mark Stone. This is an easy read and fun. Her fictional bad guys are really bad and you want them to get their comeuppance. From the glitzy clothes she wears, to her delightful conversations with her chihuahua, to exotic locales, to international intrigue, its all here. Be sure to start with Volume 1 of the series and you will have 7 more good reads ahead!
I love Poppy, but this one was a little too over the top for me. The plot did not make a lot of sense, other than as a vehicle for Poppy and Thor to run around chasing people or being chased, and the bloodshed is getting excessive. Plus something obviously went wrong at what should have been the proofreading stage of this book—a really remarkable number of typos and other mistakes, especially in the last third of the book. In a few places it was difficult to decipher the text. I’m hoping the next book will be back on track.
Welcome to Arkansas where backyards have a lot of secrets. Poor Poppy always ends up being shot at and in trouble because someone she cares about and that someone trusts his friends, but he shouldn’t. Loved the shopping. And the dress she was looking at when she suddenly had to leave. And Consuela is so very precious and is a smart and sassy spitfire! And Thor. Enough said!
Even though the story was fun and probably deserves a 4 or 5 start rating, the fact is, this one just didn't seem like it was the finally manuscript. Between a somewhat wooden beginning, no spell checking run (I know you can get wrong words after spell checking, but many of the typos weren't even words) and at least one duplicate scene that was not edited out. There were just too many issues pulling me out of the story to give it a higher rating.
Poppy, Consuela, and Thor are in a back to back adventure spanning multiple countries, and starting where the last one left off. Theft, abduction, and betrayal mixed with shopping and some stolen romantic moments. Lots of pithy commentary from Consuela peppers the story, and I enjoyed looking up the various designers mentioned to help me visualize Poppy's outfits.
I love this series! I was simply exhausted, though, after I finished the book. There was non-stop action, and I just couldn't put the book down. (So glad the battery in my Kindle held out till I finished). I was so happy that Poppy got to shop. And this time, each shopping adventure was necessary...well mostly.
Once again, Consuelo saves her humans. What would they do without her?
I devour these books the minute I get them! Poppy, her dog Consuela, and boyfriend Thor, aka Mark Stone, are fun, funny, and seriously hard to keep up with as they evade death numerous times. The hard part of these books is waiting for the next one to come out! I love the characters, the history, the doggy bantering, and the little bit of romance they're allowed.
I didn't enjoy it much when I first read book 1, but true to Julie Mulhern fashion, by book 2 I was falling under the spell.
The books are fun over the top action, that cause serious eye roll.
Over the top Dog Over the top social influencer Spies/Guns/Intrigue world domination lol okay maybe not that one, but it's fun and light, and if you don't mind NOT BELIEVABLE FOR A MINUTE action, its a super cute cozie.
For the subject matter (and the body count) this could have been a dark, grim, overly gritty story. Instead, though the deaths are not treated flippantly, the international hijinks and Poppy and Thor's relationship are absolutely the highlight, and that's what makes it so much fun.
Fields' Guide to Secrets is nonstop action and adventure right from the first page. This book is fun and exciting. I love the characters. Especially Poppy's dog, Consuela who plays a huge role in saving them all. This book is impossible to put down. It is exciting and suspenseful. I love this series and highly recommend this book.
Great story, very bad editing. I have now read all of the Field’s Guide and Country Club books and this is an issue in all of Julie Mulhern’s books. Wrong names, wrong words, duplicated passages. I don’t know if this is just an issue with the kindle editions or not. I love her characters and the plots are fun and fast paced. But OMG, get a better proof reader!!
Another awesome adventure with Poppy and Mark!!! So thankful for a new story to add to the list of stellar stories that are just so much fun 💗 please, please keep writing more
I really enjoying the latest installment of this series. Exciting locales, interesting characters and of course the always entertaining Consuela. Such a great series. Highly recommend.
We finally find out what was in the box & it's not good news for Poppy & Mark as everyone seems to want what's in it. More people start coming after them & they are soon on the move. I love this series so much! Cannot wait for the next installment
Consuela steals the show once again in this latest installment of the Poppy Fields series. Her witty dialog and insightful profiling keep Poppy and Thor moving in the right direction despite kidnapping, gunfights and surprise villains. Great series!
