I love what happens for Sena, Kurita and Hiruma. They really get to show their best here. Particularly Kurita who is rarely the main focused and hasn't had a true adversary since the Sphinxs. We also get some ship time which I am always here for. But I still hate the thing that happened at the end of the previous book, it hurts my soul.

Eyeshield 21: This Is American Football continues where the previous tankōbon left off and contains the next nine chapters (260–268) of the on-going manga series.

The tankōbon continues the Kanto Tournament Final Match between Deimon Devil Bats and the Hakushu Dinosaurs. With Yoichi Hiruma injured and sitting on the sidelines, this if the first time that the Deimon Devil Bats get to play football without him. Try as the might, the Devil Bats continue to play for Yoichi Hiruma and as he was there with him. By half time, the Devil Bats managed to shrink the lead to twenty-one points with the score of 14–35.

It was here that Yoichi Hiruma seemingly returned to the field to play, but Sena Kobayakawa noticed that his arm was still broken and was rather shock to learn that Yoichi Hiruma was willing to play football even if it kills him. Ryokan Kurita becomes especially defensive over Yoichi Hiruma, because he thought that he failed him the first time and he would not let that happen again. With Yoichi Hiruma on the field, the Devil Bats managed to tie the game.

This tankōbon is written by Riichiro Inagaki and illustrated by Yusuke Murata. For the most part, I really liked how the story is progressing. The game is heating up rather nicely. I was quite surprised to see Yoichi Hiruma on the field in his uniform to play. I thought he would cheer and coach from the side-lines. It is in my hopes that Yoichi Hiruma will not pay the greatest price in the name of the game.

All in all, Eyeshield 21: This Is American Football is a wonderful continuation to a series that seems intriguing and I cannot wait to read more.

'25-'26 ES21 reread:

Somehow this volume is really really good despite fuckass Gao still being there and his shtick still being awful. Marco being so good really saves it, he's funny and scary and interesting and his whole thing with Maruko is great, I just wish their team had anything else going on as good as what they have bc the rest of them are at best whatever and at worst the worst part of the series lmao. They couldn't give the Marukos a good supporting cast or the cuntquake would've destroyed the planet I guess.

This volume also had Hirumamo crumbs, a Komusubi moment, yassified Otawara and Kurita going sicko mode so that all added to making this one great.

btw those Teikoku crumbs are getting LOUD and yet the "who's the real eyeshield 21" conversation hasn't been brought up for a while... HMMMMM.....

Kurita gets to do big things, Sena realizes there's more to American Football than just running fast, Hiruma walks around with broken arms going muahahaha but are my arms REALLY broken!!!?! It feels so late in the game for the dinosaurs to show up. Oujou felt like an actual match but with these guys it's a lot of GRRRR STRENGTH GRRRR OVERWHELMING POWAHHHHHH and the plays themselves aren't as interesting. I feel like most sports series I've read, the later teams are the smartest and ones with the best handle on the game that can challenge the main characters with a better fundamental understanding of the game, but if that's true then the fundamental part of football is GRRRRRR POWERRRRRRR and I'm sort of bored.

Perkembangan karakter Sena yang luar biasa. Bukan hanya itu hubungan antar karakter juga berhasil divisualkan bahwa tim ini semakin baik
