Their Elusive Enemies Took Everything. Now They Want More.

Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt was a content man—in his faith, his work, and his family. Then in a flash, everything he loved was snatched away. His wife and son were murdered, and grief-stricken Ben lost faith. Determination to find their killers keeps him going, but after three years of dead ends and torment, his hope is dying too. Why had he survived? He’d failed to protect his family.

Now, a mysterious woman appears at Crossroads seeking answers and help—a victim who eerily resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan. A woman robbed of her identity, her life, of everything except her faith—and Susan’s necklace.

The connections between the two women mount, exceeding coincidence, and to keep the truth hidden, someone is willing to kill. Finding out who and why turns Ben and the mystery woman’s situation from dangerous to deadly. Their only hope for survival is to work together, trust each other, and face whatever they discover head on, no matter how painful. But will that be enough to save their lives and heal their tattered hearts?

I almost always love the books I get through this publisher, but this was an exception. I'm still not sure who was related to who and why a lot of that was relevant, especially the whole biological terrorist subplot that went pretty much nowhere. Even as bubble gum reading, it was lacking. If you're looking for mindless suspense, there are plenty of books that have characters who are at least somewhat believable and some that are even likable - unfortunately this book doesn't have them.

When an injured woman shows up at Crossroads Crisis Center, the staff can't help but to notice that she bears an uncanny resemblance to their founder, Susan Brandt. The mystery woman has no recollection of how she ended up in Florida or why she looks so much like Susan. What she does know is that two strange men are out to do her harm, but she's not sure why.

Benjamin Brandt lost his wife and son three years ago. In the years since, several women resembling his late wife have shown up claiming to be her. He hasn't returned to the center he founded with his wife, but when his staff contacts him regarding the latest mystery woman, he feels compelled to find out why she's there.

Though Forget Me Not is promoted as a Christian mystery, Vicki Hinze is careful not to overwhelm the reader with the Christianity angle. Once I figured out all of the players in the game, the book was an enjoyable read.

What did you like about the book?
I was pleasantly surprised to find that the book was not bogged down with a lot of biblical references.

What did you dislike about the book?
There were way too many names thrown at the reader all at once. I spent at least 30 minutes just trying to figure out who all of the characters speaking and referenced were. At first I thought that I just wasn't focused enough while reading it, but in speaking to another reader, I found that she had the same problem.

How can the author improve this book?
Streamlining the characters would be a start.

Solid book in the Crossroads Crisis Center series. Good premise, but characters need some more development. Mystery portions really good though.

This was my first experience reading Vicki Hinze, but let me tell you, if will not be my last! I'm already looking forward to the next book in this series, but will have to wait 'til Spring 2011 to get my hands on it. Bummer!

I can't give one of my typical reviews of this book, because I would end up giving too much away. Anyone who is familiar with my reviews knows that I like to focus on each of the main characters lives, as well as add a little something about any secondary characters who might have caught my attention; well, that's just not possible with Forget Me Not. I can't even tell you the female lead-character's name w/o spoiling a big part of the story! Yes...it's that intriguing!

Forget Me Not is a fast-pasted book, from the very first sentence, and I read it in a matter of a few hours. It has it all: international terrorists, corrupt politicians/town leaders, back-stabbing family members, even a few tear-inducing moments. I think guys would even enjoy this one---it would make an awesome movie!

Let me also mention, for those of you who may not be fond of the "stronger" faith-themed Christian Fiction books, this one might not be for you, but you should definitely give it a chance as it's well worth your time. God is a major part of the female character's life and the story just wouldn't be the same w/o His influence throughout the entire book. Her life revolves around her strong faith in her Heavenly Father.

In case y'all are wondering if I have completely strayed from my "all-Romance/all the time" roots....no, I have not! This book even has a romantic angle for us Romance junkies, which I was so excited to discover. LOL

If you want to check out Vicki Hinze's first foray into Christian Fiction, be sure to grab a copy of Forget Me Not for yourself. I think you'll be glad you did --- I know I am! I'm hoping to get my hands on more of her books, as soon as I can.

This is a read-in-one gulp kind of novel. Seriously, once you start you won't be able to stop. So clear your calendar, send your loved ones off on an adventure without you and curl up by with this intense read for the afternoon.

A twisty, turny plot that is so complicated I'll just advise you to go with the flow and be content with knowing that eventually everything will be revealed. Edgy and tense and utterly compelling.

And if all that danger and mystery isn't enough to leave you gasping for breath, the romance is sure to. From a less than stellar first meet -- let's just say that Ben doesn't make a great first impression...or second...and possibly third. He's wary and cynical and bitter. A real contrast to the mystery woman who has been stripped of everything but her faith. And he wants none of it, but she has a way about her and he can't deny that it's her faith that anchors her. Definitely interesting dynamics between these two.

Taut suspense coupled with an impossible romance provide hours of sublime reading pleasure.

The heroine has bad guys after her but she gets amnesia early on in the story, so most of it is spent trying to figure out what's going on and who's after her. The problem I have with it is that a great deal of time is spent in the bad guy's POV. I don't generally like reading the bad guy's POV. It's not a pleasant place to be. And in this case, it kind of eliminated a lot of the mystery and suspense in the story. It's a good read, nonetheless.

Reviews:

“Hinze has written a masterful, complicated tale of suspense that gains momentum with each turn of a page. Her writing flows surely, moving from one character to the next, one setting to another, with readers keeping the swift pace. . . . Hinze’s plot may have readers puzzling over how this tangled tale will ever resolve itself, but that underestimates the author’s talent for transforming the unlikely into something beautiful.”
--Publishers Weekly

“Forget Me Not is a thriller you won’t soon forget, especially if you’re a fan of the romantic obsession mastered by Alfred Hitchcock in Vertigo or Otto Preminger’s Laura. Vicki Hinze’s latest blends disparate elements together with surprising ease, and the result is a darkly original tale where hope and faith provide the light. The story, though, isn’t so much about faith conquering all so much as coming to the realization of its limitations and learning to overcome them, which comes define Brandt’s very heroism. Such spiritual elements would’ve overburdened the tale in lesser hands. Good thing’s Hinze’s are as sure and steady as they come, making Forget Me Not not to be missed.” --Providence Journal
"Vicki Hinze's name on the cover always guarantees a great read. “
--Jeff Ayers, Thriller Reviewer Library Journal, Seattle Post-Intellgencer, and Writer Magazine. ITW Interview.

"Vicki Hinze writes the most ‘sitting on the edge of your seat waiting for the other shoe to drop’ suspense I’ve ever had the opportunity to read. This book is truly a must read and is definitely a keeper. I can’t wait to read the next book in the Crossroads Crisis Center series!"

“A thriller you won’t soon forget”
--Jon Land, Author Magazine

“FORGET ME NOT is [Hinze’s] first Christian-themed thriller, and it combines many elements that have made this relatively new genre so popular. A growing number of readers enjoy a complex suspense story with an underlying romance but would rather not be bombarded with endless obscenities and graphic sexual descriptions. For many years they were offered few choices beyond LITTLE HOUSE ON THE PRAIRIE. So Hinze has added her talent to the growing pool of writers who can combine faith and wholesome values with a rip-roaring good story.”

“Forget Me Not is similar in many ways to Teri Blackstock and Dee Henderson’s novels. Fans of their books will enjoy this one as well. It has a really good storyline and was a perfect choice when I wanted something on the lighter, more encouraging side. With a gentle touch and a sweet romantic angle, they reader is left with great affirmation of God’s omnipotence and a reminder that even when we don’t know where God is, He has not forgotten us.”
--The Christian Manifesto

“Vicki Hinze has written a superb thriller about a woman whose faith sustains her and a man whose faith died along with his wife and son. There is plenty of action throughout this fast-paced tale but Forget Me Not is character driven by Benjamin and Karen ( and her real name) . Even with knowing who the villains are, fans will feel the stratospheric tension as double crosses and identity issues make for a powerful novel.”
--Genre Go Round Reviews

"This tale contains all of the danger, treachery, and action a reader could wish for, along with intrigue coming from all directions. Vicki Hinze's enthusiasm for her stories highlights her sharp talent for conveying human emotions, and FORGET ME NOT also reveals the author's deep spiritual faith. FORGET ME NOT is the first offering in a new series of Christian Suspense, and the outstanding characters and the author's narrative leave the reader wanting more! More! More!"
--Fresh Fiction

“Vicki Hinze has written a high adrenaline rush in Forget Me Not. As the title suggests, you will have a hard time forgetting this high action packed novel. Those that crave roller coaster ride thrillers will definitely be pleased when they discover Forget Me Not. This is one book that will keep you on your edge of your seat.”
--Midwest Book Review

Forget Me Not, by Vicki Hinze, is an action-packed, intense, crime-laden novel that changes plots on a frequent basis, keeping you alert, absorbed and hooked to the end. You will need to keep the circumstances and characters straight in your mind, but the pacing isn’t so fast that your lose your way. It’s complex, but that’s what makes it good! Vicki is definitely keen on character reactions and emotions. The intricacies of the many characters were handled very aptly. They were consistent throughout the book. Evil was punctuated with good, which were great antagonists throughout. In the life of crime, do you really know who your friends are?
I was always on edge, wondering what would happen and when, with either the evil, vicious end of the book, as well as between Ben and the mystery ‘Susan’ woman, and those that they interacted with at the Crisis Center. For this, my first introduction to Vicki’s writing, I know I’ll definitely be reading more of her books! The spiritual truths presented are relevant to everyone.
--One Desert Rose, The Suspense Zone

“The main story of a man who cannot let go of his grief and anger and a woman who wonders if anyone has ever cared about her is powerful. When our mystery woman finally remembers everything she wishes she was still in the dark. What she now knows is far too great a burden to carry and far too devastating to reveal to the man who has finally come to trust her. But the one thing she never forgot, her faith in God, may still yet prove the hope for both she and Ben’s tattered hearts.”
--TE George, Fiction Addict

“Vicki Hinze is a newcomer to faith based fiction but is by no means a newbie to writing. With over twenty-five novels in print she demonstrates her seasoned ability to develop characters and ratchet up the tension as the plot progresses.” --Unveiled

“I thoroughly enjoyed this romantic suspense, with a good Christian background without being too preachy. The romance simmers nicely without being overpowering and is very believable for a man who dearly loved his wife and family and struggles with the new feelings of guilt and hope for his future. FORGET ME NOT is a wonderful read!”
--Romance Readers Connection”

“A superb twist-filled ending, one that has me longing for more by Vicki. In all, she has made her way onto my 'must read' list, and I highly recommend her to suspense lovers everywhere! I'm giving "Forget Me Not" four out of five bookmarks with a necklace as a charm.”
---A Peek at My Bookshelf

“Vicki Hinze has crafted a masterful inspirational thriller. She weaves together a very tangled web, and anyone could be the bearer of a little deceit. I love how the story is multi-layered. We are given glimpses into the activities of numerous characters, yet we are truly not certain who the bad guy is until the very end. I enjoyed the suspense and the underlying conviction that God will make sure things work out accordingly. FORGET ME NOT is a fast-paced, exciting read that will keep you riveted to the pages trying to piece everything together. I will look forward to Ms. Hinze’s next offering in this stimulating new series.”
--Noveltalk

"I've found a keeper in Vicki Hinze and her debut novel, "Forget Me Not". In what looks to be a promising new series, Vicki has created both unique characters and a different setting for her series."
--Titletrakk

“Forget Me Not is a riveting suspense novel that is intriguing from beginning to end. It is filled with drama, hidden agendas and a budding romance.”
--Charisma Magazine

“A roller coaster ride full of suspense and mystery. The writing is crisp and FORGET ME NOT is a page turner with a plethora of secondary characters to move the action. With a sprinkling of bad guys, and some not-so-bad guys, it is hard to determine who is trying to kill the woman called Susan, and who isn’t. But her stalkers, the men who beat her, Edward and Harry, are being pursued themselves by the person who wants her dead. Edward and Harry have to either kill Susan or let her live, and what they decide will determine who will die next, as this story becomes a game of cat and mouse to stay alive. Fraught with tension and sharp edged suspense, FORGET ME NOT is a keeper.”
--Romance Reviews Today

“This is a beautifully written mystery, suspense, thriller, and Christian novel. I think a lot of people outside of the Christian faith associate Christianity as a roadblock in experiencing things involved in its Faith, such as books. "Forget Me Not" was a majorly suspenseful novel. I think whether you are Christian, or not in my case (spiritual belonging to the Native American form of Faith), you will enjoy this book.”

READER REVIEWS:

“Over the years I've read many books by very talented author Vicki Hinze. She is queen of the nail-biting, edge-of-the seat thrillers. This lady writes a mean mystery story! FORGET ME NOT, however, is the FIRST Christian thriller I've read from her talented pen and it does not disappoint!
“Just who IS Susan? The very mysterious lady has lost her memory and has nothing to go on but a name and a necklace. Benjamin Brandt thinks she looks like his deceased wife, but could she be? What is NINA and why are they trying to kill Susan? These are but a few of the questions that fill the mind as you turn the pages of this excellent book.

This was the most confusing of books. It felt like it kept going off on tangents, the most unbelievable, convoluted tangents possible. I found it really difficult to keep track of characters. Also, the writing was such that I had to keep backtracking to figure out which character was speaking. There were some places that I never did figure that out.
It gets one star because for some reason I kept reading. I was hoping that by the end of it things would make sense.

Wow. I'm not sure I could even retell or summarize the events in this story. It was so hard to follow at first - until you realize the betrayal upon betrayal. It does all come together in the end with one loose thread. And the element of faith was strong, something I've found missing in recent Christian fiction reads. On to book two!

This book caught my eye for sure, had unexpected romance which I ended up liking. I personally didn’t expect such a strong religious component either, as someone who’s not religious it almost deterred me but I was able to still enjoy it! I guess my biggest thing is I’m still confused on the relationships between everyone who’s trying to kill Kelly.. I need a family tree lol

From My Blog...[return]When a prologue has the ability to command the reader's full attention and leave the reader no choice but to continue reading the novel without a single pause, that is usually the mark of a well-written novel and Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze is indeed that sort of novel. The beginning of the novel is quite a mystery; the reader is introduced to all the key players and a fair amount of unknowns. A woman is being warned that NINA is after her and she must once again vanish, but before she could, she was carjacked and left for dead in the woods. A nearby resident to the woods, Clyde Parker, saw headlights and decided to investigate as he stumbles upon this woman who has no recollection of who she is, but does have a card on her for Crossroads, a local crisis center with the name Susan written on the back. She further learns she is in Seagrove, Florida, which terrifies her and she does not know why. She convinces Clyde to take her to the local Crossroads Crisis Center rather than the local hospital where she sees a portrait of a woman, her exact likeness, named Susan Brandt. She is elated until she notices this woman has been declared deceased for 3 years. Benjamin Brandt, the owner of the Crossroads Crisis Center has been reluctantly called in. Since his wife Susan and son Christopher we murdered 3 years ago, he has been rather reluctant to be involved and unfortunately in the last three years many have claimed to know who murdered his family or have claimed to be Susan, all for monetary gain. When he discovers this mysterious woman is wearing his deceased wife's necklace, Benjamin becomes even more enraged. Peggy Crane, the head of the crisis center and also Susan Brandt's best friend is able to calm Benjamin down and the center comes up with a solution to keep the mystery woman safe until they can either discover her identity or her memory returns. Meanwhile, Gregory Chessman, who is believed to be an upstanding philanthropist and above suspicion is a murderer and is looking for this woman through an extensive network of contacts. Why is he after this woman? Who is she and why are two of Gregory's men trying to set him up? Forget Me Not is a brilliant suspense thriller that will keep the reader turning the pages, trying to solve the web of secrets and untangle the crosses and double crosses. Hinze weaves in a Christian influence, which is not at all peachy, but rather adds a delightful characteristic to the mystery woman, giving her a self assured confidence about who she is, even if she cannot recall her name or anything about her life. Forget Me Not is the first novel in the Crossroads Crisis Center series and I anxiously await the second in the series. I would recommend this novel to any reader looking for an excellent mystery/suspense thriller.

I want to begin this review, as usual, by thanking the author Vicki Hinze for graciously sending me a copy of this book to be able to review it. If you read the post the day I got the package you will have read she also included a copy of "War Games: Kill Zone" and a bookmark of "Forget Me Not" to go along with the autographed copy of the book. I didn't ask for any of the other items, so it goes to show you how kind Vicki really is.

This is a beautifully written mystery, suspense, thriller, and Christian novel. I think a lot of people outside of the Christian faith associate Christianity as a roadblock in experiencing things involved in its Faith, such as books. "Forget Me Not" was a majorily suspenseful novel. I think whether you are Christian, or not in my case (spiritual belonging to the Native American form of Faith), you will enjoy this book.

If it weren't for my exhausting weekend I wouldn't have put this book down until I finished. Susan/Karen/Kelly & Ben's gripping story is loaded with tragedy and sorrow, that only they could get through it together. While I'm on that topic, Susan/Karen/Kelly had me feeling like the poor woman had a severe case of Multiple Personality Disorder. Thankfully this wasn't the case, and you will have to read the book to find out what I am talking about.

There were quite a few quotes from the novel that I think were very powerful, for me atleast:

"...emotions. They don't care about logic or reason or even common sense. They just hang out and drive you nuts wherever they can find a nook or cranny to rip you apart inside."

"Fear isn't an enemy. It warns us of danger. It makes us notice things so we protect ourselves. Fear isn't a failing. Sometimes it's a weapon, but sometimes it's a shield too." (If you're on my Facebook you will have seen this, when I woke up. I had this as my status message. I think it was a great quote to inspire others for the on-coming day!)

"The center had healed, and so would Karen." (I think this was a very talented way to use as a comparison to Karen's circumstances and the ones that the center had to deal with.)

In general tho, I loved how Vicki has incorporated that even tho Susan/Karen/Kelly has no memory of her life, she still knows she has her faith in God. Whether you are religious or not I think you can feel the sense of sorrow this character has. Can you imagine never knowing if you were loved, if anyone ever cared for you?

Typically I am not into the whole reader's guide things some authors feature in the back of their books. Some reason, Vicki's is calling my name. Later this week I will be posting my answers to the reading guide questions.

Forget Me Not is an intense, “ripped from the headlines” suspense story that grabs you from the beginning and offers a tense, nail biting, roller coaster ride. This book is chock full of real life situations – loss, grief, murder, terrorists, bombs, amnesia, car jacking……..if it doesn’t hold your interest, I suspect nothing will!

I think a warning should be issued with this book: May Cause Sleep Loss. This is one of those books you’re likely to stay up very late just to finish it. In one interview, Hinze says of her book: “I wanted to write a faith-affirming romantic thriller because I love pushing the boundaries that expand the genre. I've always loved that, and I suspect I always will.”

The story centers around Benjamin Brandt, the owner of Crossroads Crisis Center whose wife and son are murdered. This horrific loss causes Benjamin to not only question his faith and his commitment to the center, but also causes him to spend several years seeking to find the killer. Year after year of hunting for clues, Benjamin comes up with nothing. Since the murders, Ben has refused to step foot inside the center – until another crisis hits.

Suddenly, out of nowhere, a woman with amnesia shows up at the center and has an uncanny resemblance to Benjamin’s wife Susan. When Benjamin receives a phone call that a woman resembling his wife is at the center who thinks she could be Susan – he deals with more confusion. The woman shows up out of nowhere, with a business card from Crossroads in her pocket that says “Susan”. Thinking that this could be another extortionist or nut case, Benjamin dismisses this as one more woman pulling a scam and after some money.

Upon meeting the mystery woman (whom they name “Karen”), Benjamin is rattled and angry. Seeing her dredges up more pain and guilt and he’s still suspicious of her motives. When Ben discovers that Karen has an item of Susan’s (a small gold cross with an inscription) the mystery deepens. With no memory, Karen/Susan has no idea how she got to the center or who she really is. As she and Benjamin begin working their way through the past – the plot thickens and finding the truth could prove to be deadly.

A reader’s guide is included in the back of the book. Forget Me Not is Book One in the Crossroads Crisis Center series. If you enjoy this book, keep your eye out for Book Two, Deadly Ties.

What worked for me: The story was very fast paced and there really wasn't a time that I found myself bored with the story. I really liked the character Ben...he felt real in regards to his pain and why he avoided the Crossroads Crisis Center at all costs. I was touched by his vulnerability and at times my heart ached for all of the loss he had suffered. The storyline was pretty intriguing for the most part and I wanted to continue reading so that I could find out who really were the bad guys and who were the good guys. I liked Susan's (she goes by several names in this book) continued strength in her faith even when she had nothing else to anchor her to this world. I'm always amazed by those that never doubt!! Her character made me stop and reflect on my own lack of faith and why I've never been able to just totally give up control over my life. What didn't work for me: Many of you know that I don't mind at all reading Christian fiction...I just don't want it to be too preachy. Well, this one in my opinion, is a bit heavy in that area. The only place that you find it is with Susan/Karen/Kelly (all the same person). I understand why the author did this (I think), but for me it was just a bit too much. One other thing that was a little hard to believe was the inclusion of a bio-terrorist ring. I don't want to delve into this too much because it is a big portion of the plot, but at times it felt very contrived and frankly, not very original. With all of that being said, I still enjoyed my time spent reading this book. I read in the author's note that even though Vicki has penned over 23 novels, this is her first foray into Christian fiction. So, to be fair to her I'm not going to dwell on the heavy religious tones that appear throughout the book. I think she did this in order for the reader to truly understand what kind of person Susan/Karen/Kelly really was, that even though she couldn't remember details of her life, she knew in her soul that she was loved and known by God. I feel comfortable recommending this book to my friends and fellow book lovers. In fact, I think it would make a great book club read..the readers guide contains many thought provoking questions!! I liked it enough to want to read the next in the Crossroads series which will be available Spring 2011.

Buckle-up as you prepare to read Vicki Hinze’s first Christian Fiction suspenseful adventure, Forget Me Not. I was so thankful to receive a review copy of this book.

I was hooked from the very first chapter as a murder, then a carjacking takes place and the main character is left for dead. The main character is running for her life and wakes up in the woods, badly beaten. A Good Samaritan arrives and helps her to the Crossroads Crisis Center. One problem - this isn’t a medical facility and the woman doesn’t know who she is! Weirder still...she discovers at the center that she looks very similar to Susan Brandt, founder of the Crossroads Crisis Center.

“The main character says to Ben Brandt, (the founders husband)—who hasn’t treated her nice, “Someone wants me dead and I have no idea why!...I intend to find out who I am and I hope that includes insight into your wife and son’s murder…If you want me to share what I learn, then you need to adjust your attitude toward me, because I’ve tolerated all the indignity and disrespect from you I’m going to.”

Vicki’s characters grabbed my heart and attention from the start. I could feel the main character's pain, relate to their spiritual struggle and followed the plot twists closely as she revealed surprising details and turns that shed light into her situation. I had no idea how all the pieces would be put together; it definitely kept me reading!

The author writes the story from the view of the young woman who has amnesia. The reader discovers, along with the girl, about her life has it unfolds. This story is full of intriguing plot twists that got more intriguing with every page I read. Vicki is a master at weaving a surprising plot, with rich characters you instantly care about—I enjoyed the main character’s spiritual journey and how she listened to the Holy Spirit to guide her.

The loss of one’s faith through tragedy does not separate anyone from the love of God or His faithfulness–”when we are faithless, He is faithful.”

Benjamin Brandt, owner of Crossroads Crisis Center, had an ideal life–his faith, his wife and son, and his work. In an instant, he lost all but his job. His family had been murdered. Although grief-stricken, he continues to search for the murderer(s)–but it’s been three years and leads are slipping away fast.

One day, a woman, who looks remarkably like Benjamin’s wife, Susan, is brought to the Crisis Center, seeking help and answers. She’s been the victim of a beating so severe she doesn’t know who she is. Why? By whom? She’s lost everything, except her faith.

Ben’s mistrust of this ‘Susan’ woman, and the mystery ‘Susan’ woman’s confusion about her identity and life, get magnified out of proportion, yet they must work together to figure out who and why someone is willing to kill them to keep the truth hidden from them. The situation goes from dangerous to deadly once ‘those someones’ are able to track her whereabouts. Will they find the killer(s) before they are killed?

This book was provided by Susan at The Suspense Zone for my honest review.

A gripping suspense story that will keep you guessing until the end.

I really enjoyed this book. Not only did it have a strong suspense angle and a dash of romance but the faith angle was very good. No matter what happened, even losing her memory in a very traumatic way, the heroine never wavers in her faith. I do tend to get a little tired of the heroines in suspense stories having to find their way to God, so it was nice to read a story about a girl already there who is also strong enough in her faith to withstand anything thrown at her. Our hero has lost sight of his faith but little by little he finds his way back to the perfect Love.

That said, the heroine, is not a perfect goody-goody. She loses her temper at the hero and firmly puts him in his place when they first meet, she clobbers a bad guy that breaks into her cottage, she even uses a few interesting items as weapons including a fire extinguisher and a water hose. She is scared but still tries to do what is right.
The hero has some issues to work through, amongst them is guilt over failing to protect his wife and son. Grieving and bitter he still tries to do the right thing. He does help our heroine even though he thinks she might be some kind of con artist trying to get his money.
I felt the characters were flawed and had their own foibles which made them all the more believable.

The mystery has as many twists and turns as a Louisiana bayou. You never quite know what to expect next. Is the amnesiac heroine somehow Ben's deceased wife, Susan? If she isn't, then why does she look like Susan and how did she get Susan's necklace? Who is after her, is there more than one person? And why is she so frightened of the little seaside town?

If you want to know the answers to these questions than I suggest you hurry and get a copy of this exciting story.
I am so glad I have the next book in the series so I don't have to wait to find out what happens next.

Title: FORGET ME NOT
Author: Vicki Hinze
Publisher: Multnomah
March 2010
ISBN: 978-1-601142-205-7
Genre: Inspirational/suspense

Benjamin Brandt has lost everything he loved--his beloved wife, Susan, and their young son, Christopher, when his family was brutally murdered. Now, Ben has lost his faith, and the only think keeping him going is his determination to find their killers and have them brought to justice. But after three years of only dead ends, his hope is dying.

Then the director at Crossroads Shelter calls Ben, claiming that a woman has shown up at the shelter, and she remarkably resembles Ben’s deceased wife, Susan. Not only that, but she is wearing Susan’s cross necklace, and she was driving a red jag (Susan’s car) when she was hi-jacked and beaten, left for dead. The woman has no memory, and doesn’t know who she is.

As Ben questions this woman, the connections between his Susan and this mystery woman mount, exceeding coincidence. And someone is on this other woman’s tail. Her only hope for survival is to work with Ben, and trust that her memory will return. Will that be enough to save her life?

FORGET ME NOT is the first book I read by this author, but it definitely won’t be the last. The story did start out with quite a bit of violence that made me kind of iffy about the story, but once I got past that, the whole story was well thought out, the characterization excellent, and all the loose ends were neatly tied and clipped by the end of the book.

I literally couldn’t put this book down. I started reading it yesterday while I was waiting for a computer program to open up, and by the time my slow computer did what it was supposed to do, I was hooked. The book was finished by night, even with interruptions by my five kids, and errands to run. I am looking forward to many more books by this author. Discussion questions are included at the end of the book. I can’t wait to read book two coming in Spring 2011. $13.99. 329 pages.

If you like edge-of-your-seat thrillers with some romance then this is a book for you. This was my first experience with Ms. Hinze as an author. She writes great romantic suspense.

I liked this book for it's different from the ordinary plot. The book features Kelly, a woman who we learn at the beginning of the book is on the run from a group she knows little about. Then she ends up unconscious and left in a field with no memory of who she is and what is going on. She remembers some things, just not everything or the important things. Ben is just trying to get over the loss of his family several years ago and does not want to get involved in anything like what Kelly is involved in, but he gets pulled in and then he can't leave her.

It's exciting and it keeps you guessing. I liked how the story was given to you a little bit at a time. You didn't know much about Kelly, Ben or the bad guys in the beginning and then slowly their stories unfold. This is the first in the series and was an enjoyable read. I look forward to the next book and the couple it will focus on and more about the Crossroads Crisis Center.

My one complaint was the book was a little choppy. The jumping back and forth, which keeps things exciting, seemed a little too jumpy at times. I also feel like I never got the full story, but there are more books coming in the series, so I am guessing I will learn more in the following books. The main plot in Forget Me Not was tied up, but there is a larger plot that I want to learn more about and I hope I will.

But overall, this was a very enjoyable read. It's definitely a thriller and time well-spent.

His wife and son are dead. His faith is gone. Nothing is left for Crossroads Crisis Center owner Benjamin Brandt. Crossroads was Susan’s dream, she just didn’t live long enough to see it fully realized. Ben can’t bear to be a part of it without her.

Then a mysterious woman shows up at the center. She’s bruised and broken from a severe beating. She has no memory, no identity, and no belongings—except a face that could pass for Ben’s dead wife, Susan’s necklace…and a strong, unwavering faith in God.

Someone wants this woman dead. When Ben steps in to help her, their investigation increasingly reveals a connection between the newcomer and Susan. It also places both her and Ben in deadly peril. At least one unknown person is willing to kill to keep them from uncovering answers.

Ben has no faith, but the stranger has enough to carry him. She has no identity, but Ben knows exactly who he is, and he believes in her. It seems their hearts may be on the mend, perhaps even meant to be together. But will they live long enough to let their battered hearts heal? Does their burgeoning love stand a chance when renewed memories reveal the horrifying truth about Susan’s death?

Forget Me Not is packed with dynamic action, heart-stirring emotions, hurting hearts and healing faith. On the premise that “even when we forget who we are, at core level we remember whose we are,” the author paints a vivid picture of lives tainted by abuse, tragedy and hurt, yet unequivocally loved and guided by a God Who sees, knows and cares.

This is Vicki Hinze’s first book of Christian fiction. She did it right.

My thoughts:
Forget Me Not by Vicki Hinze is a fast reading suspenseful story with the main characters living on the edge of sanity and are drawn together to solve the mystery of Ben's loss of his wife and son and"Susan", who does not know who she is and why people are trying to kill her, knows that somehow she is linked to the Ben's loss.
I liked "Susan" because even against the odds of her surviving the attempts on her life she keeps her faith in God intact in spite of her tortuous past that she is slowly remembering. Her life as she knows it is turned upside down but she finds that many people at the Crossroads Crisis Center want to help her find out who she is and why she is in jeopardy of being killed. She is a strong determined woman and as she slowly remembers who she is, she knows what her goal in life is and she wants to help other people down on their luck. She knows that God is always with her in good and bad. Ben is going through the motions of his life every day but finds in "Susan" a person that he can confide in and they are becoming involved in a romantic sense even though he has lost his faith and her faith is strong, there is just some spark of something there. There are also some really nasty and self centered characters in this story of greed and murder. This first book in the Crossroads Crisis Center is a great start in this series with likeable and some not so likeable characters and enough suspense to keep the story interesting. It is an enjoyable read.
