Annie Oakley Saves the Day by Anna DeVito- Children’s Illustrated Colour Picture Book- The book narrates the story of a family residing in a farm in Ohio, USA. Family consists of Jacob Mosey, his wife Susan, daughter Annie Mosey, son John Mosey. Season is winter. Jacob has loaded farm produce and is about to move to the market to sell the produce and purchase daily need items for the family. Annie and John reach the wagon when Jacob sits on the driving seat. Susan carrying a child in her arms, bids good bye. Susan says that it will snow today. Jacobs says that he will return by night and bring gifts for the children. Jacob has taught his children how to lay a trap for birds. Annie cuts pieces of branches places them on one another and ties them. On top, she leaves a small branch just balanced, so that as soon the bird sits on it, she will fall down. She drops corns in the middle. They eat soup in the night. Snow storm starts. There is no drier wood in the house. Susan ties Annie with a rope and send her to the cabin to fetch wood. Annie is stuck in the snow storm but ultimately brings wood for them. Jacob returns late in the night. He says that the road was covered with snow and horses found the way to the house. Jacob’s clothes are wet. Susan helps him and Jacob goes to sleep. In the morning, Annie opens the trap and finds that a Quail stuck. Annie carries the quail in her shawl. Later Jacob died of pneumonia. Annie began trapping before the age of seven, and shooting and hunting by age eight, to support her siblings and her widowed mother. Coloured illustrations help the reader to relate to the story. I have read the Hindi language translation of this book.

I thought this was pretty boring and more like a little snapshot about hunting with a trap vs. much about Annie herself.

Easy reader format details a short event (a blizzard) from Annie's childhood, in which she was helpful to her family. Timeline at the end lists years and major events. Was hoping this included her whole life.
