This book is a collection of JFK's speeches. I picked this up because I think he's an outstanding public speaker and his words were always powerful, inspiring, and moving. I was born about 20 years past his time in office, but I found the decade he served as President as one of the most radically changing times in the United States. When you read his speeches in this book, they give you a glimpse of major historical events of the 1960s. This is an easy read and would recommend this to anyone taking a Speech class or just love JFK.
"Leadership and learning are indispensable to each other. Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men." (39)
This book is not extensive in length but provides an overview of some of the comments and speech extracts from JFK's political career- as a Senator and the President.
JFK was inspirational. The extracts in this book highlight his view of service to everyone not just one party or another as the President and the need to ensure that all Americans can access the services in the community that should be available to everyone
His responses are considered, well thought out, and something that current and future leaders across the globe can learn from.
There was also a DVD with the book that I watched- containing old footage (black and white and colour) of speeches, events and press conferences that JFK attended.
The JFK book contained history and humor, but mostly his speeches. They were some of the best I've ever read and delivered by a great orator, even though they were mostly written by Theodore Chaikin Sorensen.
