Misaki is invited to go on a blind date. Together with Sakura, she met Sakura's favorite band who turned out to be bad-tempered ?! Meanwhile, Igarashi appears again making trouble!
Hiro Fujiwara (藤原ヒロ in Japanese) is a Japanese manga artist.
The manga artist was once active under her previous pen name, Izumi Hiro (和泉 ヒロ) at the end of the 1990's but has abandoned the name after she won the Best Rookie award in the LMS for Kaeri Michi, Yuki no Netsu.
Her first series, which is also her latest ongoing work, Kaichō wa Maid-sama! (会長はメイド様!, translation Maid Sama!) is currently serializing in Hakusensha's monthly shōjo manga magazine, LaLa. This series is licensed by Tokyopop for North America, and an anime adaptation was broadcast during Spring 2010.
"If it is with Ayuzawa, whatever I do, wherever I am, I am happy. So it's okay."
Maid-sama is about a girl named Misaki who is the president of Seika High. Her family is going through a rough time, financially, and in order to help out, she decides to work as a maid in a restaurant. It was all a secret, up until the most popular guy in school named Usui, discovers this. He catches interest in Misaki and new bonds and relationships arise.
"That's exactly the way it should be. Doing only unexpected things, otherwise, I'll lose my reputation as a perverted outer-space human."
The adventures that Usui and Misaki have to go through are getting better and better as the volumes go by. I had so much fun reading this and there were so many swoon-worthy moments. It was sweet, funny and I had a great time reading this! I can't wait to read more, the chapters go by so fast, it takes about 10 minutes to finish the whole volume.
Their bond just keeps getting stronger and stronger and I just love it. I love seeing the character development and comparing their lives from when it was before they met each other. I can't imagine a life Misaki would have without Usui in it. It would've been a cycle of the same thing over and over again. And Usui changed Misaki in a way too.
The manager is so nice, when i get a job, I hope that I have someone like her as a manager. She is so nice and understanding. She is one of the easygoing characters that I love and thinks exactly what I am thinking. She is also very funny! But I hate Kankou, he is so annoying. (I think that is how you spell his name but I am not sure. He is the president of a rich high school)
I highly recommend this to anyone who watched the anime. This is so much fun to read, it's like you are re-watching the anime. If you haven't read any manga yet, this is a great one to start off with. It is funny and unique, you will love it, even though it isn't realistic :) If you have read manga and want to read another one, you should definitely pick this one! I am going to read the next volume and I will be back as soon as I finish!
I love this super cute story and this one was a really nice couple of chapters. Love them finally almost hitting it off. We're on the right track now. 😍
I've read this manga online a few years ago and love finally having the books as paperbacks and rereading it. Really such a nice and cute story and quick read to cheer you up. 🥰
I’m just gonna go on pretending like I didn’t see what Usui said in the last chapter 😐 BUT THE ENDING SHOT OF THEM SITTING NEXT TO ONE ANOTHER WHILE MISAKI’S LEANING ON USUI AND SLEEPING,,, 🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺🥺
Review for the anime and the whole manga, originally @ Jules Bookshelf
It all started with Usui (The hero of the story) finds out that the ruthless and ever strict student council president Misaki (Heroine) works as a maid/waitress in a café shop. He then becomes interested in her, and continues to know more, and vice versa.
The manga is specifically about Misaki and Usui. And it progresses on how they continue to build this “relationship” with each other.
MY OPINION
I’ve watched the anime of this manga a long time ago. Maybe 4 or 3 years ago. So I was pretty much of a child then. Basically this was a childhood memory of mine, and I only finished it this year. I’ve finished the anime a long time ago since it only had 25+ episodes. But with the manga, it was actually up to 85 chapters. It took me a long time to finish this manga, but I have no regrets whatsoever. In fact, I felt kinda sad to see it end.
For me, its hard to find a chick-lit book with these kinds of background. I’m not a fan of chick-lit books because they sometimes end up being too cheesy and irrationally romantic. But with Manga, anything could happen. And in a way, when things become unrealistic its charming in manga, unlike in books.
TECHNICALITIES
I love how Fujiwara drew the whole manga, and with a consistency too. From the start, up to the end, the characters still looked the same. I’m kinda picky with how the characters in manga looked, but I was glad, because the characters in the manga looked like those in the anime, though with much more greater detail. I loved how the story was plotted, the secrets that came up. The ever growing list of characters that I came to love.
CHARACTERS
I loved everyone of these characters, but let me start specifically.
* Misaki was one of those heroines that make your head ache because she's dense with feelings. She's pretty tough and independent. And I like that about her. Unlike other heroines that swoon to the ground over men. She isn't the kind of girl to be easily wooed. I got frustrated at her at one point. Being in denial of her feelings is pretty irritating at some point.
* But in a way, I admired her a lot. How passionate and protective she is of her family. How independent she was and how she persevered in life. And even though she’s a bit frustrating. I still admire a lot of good things about her.
* Usui…
Okay. I like Usui a lot here. Because he provides most of the funniest moments in the manga and anime. He’s a bit perverted, but he’s pretty much funny even without his perverted thoughts. I like him a lot because he respects Misaki. I think its pretty usual for the guys in Shoujo manga to be a bit “perfect” in a sense. And I welcome it here. Unlike in books, its unrealistic. In manga, I find it charming that Usui’s beautifully handsome and that’s he’s smart like Einstein and has the agility and strength as Superman or Thor. I do not know why but I find this much more acceptable in manga, instead of books.
Other than that, I loved how the story progressed. The manga didn’t just revolve on Misaki and Usui’s relationship. It also talked about family, friends, trust, bravery, loyalty and such. There were even chapters with complete non-sense and yet I still found them entertaining. As it continues to near the end, we find out more secrets about Usui’s family as well as Misaki’s. I don’t want to spoil any of you because the twists that happens but let me give you hints.
* New characters will pop out in the story after the things that will happen in Seika High. One, a person that Misaki’s known since childhood second, one of Usui’s family members and third, a character from Misaki’s past.
* There will be big changes in Seika High, this includes their Student Council President, Misaki.
* Misaki will go in a big adventure.
Okay I have to stop. Don’t want to spoil those who’ll read this later on.
COMPARISON THE ANIME AND THE MANGA
* The Anime is pretty short, but I admire how the animators had the consistency based on the appearance of the characters in each episode. Granted Usui had different hairstyles in a few episodes, he still looked the same as he was in the beginning. The anime only has 25 ish episodes, and I wanted more so I was a bit disappointed because the chances of it having a second season is vague. Plus the voices of the characters are cute :">
* The Manga there is definitely an air of finality to the manga. Every end of the chapter has a great finish. I think I appreciate the manga more than the anime. I saw the ending of one of my childhood favorites. In a nutshell, Kaichou Wa Maid Sama is one of the greatest manga stories i've read.
OVERALL NOTE
The manga was very well made. I even cried while reading this one. Though it lasted to 85 chapters, I wanted more. I wanted to see more of Usui’s teasing. I wanted to see Misaki flustered. I want to see more of Miyagobioka’s president. Everything about this manga is special to me. It was something from my childhood, and it is a bittersweet feeling to see it end.
OMG I didn't expect all the turns in this one. At first I thought that it would be boring but as always Usui comes to change the pace. I like that we also are able to see even if it's slightly the change in Misaki, compared to volume 1, she is a different girl. Also we got to see other characters more. Loved this volume.
los capítulos de la audición de lacayos son tan buenos,,, 10/10. y luego cuando misaki va a casa de usui? otro 10/10. en verdad me gusta mucho cuando empiezan a mostrar más de usui y de su pasado.

In the anime, the footman audition episodes consisted of some of my favourite scenes, so reading volume 5 of Maid-sama was quite fun.
In Volume 4 Misaki realises that she's developing feelings for Usui and in volume 5, she's fighting against those feelings with all her might. It's so frustrating to read about, but at the same time, it suits Misaki's personality and I wouldn't have it any other way. There are so many adorable and funny moments in volume 5 and it's awesome to see Misaki and Usui becoming closer and realising how much they affect each others lives. Also, CHAPTER 24 *SQUEE!!!!*
MY UNINTELLIGIBLE THOUGHTS WHILE READING (WARNING: THERE ARE DEFINITELY SPOILERS AHEAD. PROCEED WITH CAUTION.) ♥ Kuuga is such a jerk. ♥ The 3 idiots. Love them! ♥ HAHAHA! Usui once again saves the day by blocking Kuuga's elbow with a tray. ♥ Woah! Poor Kurotatsu. Usui took his uniform and wore it. *facepalm* ♥ Aww! Sakura... You are such a precious cinnamon roll and you don't deserve this. ♥ And, demon president makes an appearance. HOORAY! ♥ The head pat! Usui's head pat! ♥ Yay! Aoi! ♥ I loathe Igarashi with the fire of a thousand suns! ♥ And once again, Usui proves why he's the best. ♥ Kanou and Yukimura friendship. So unexpectedly awesome. ♥ Love the 3 idiots... Wait, I said that already... ♥ When you can relate to Usui's "Flat Board" comment... ♥ The Usui and Misaki team. There's nothing they can't do. ♥ HAHAHAHA! "A mysterious perverted outer-space human. Your hometown is the pheromone planet." ♥ Where did the violin come from? And, how does Usui know how to play the violin. Legit question: What can't the guy do? ♥ We finally get to see where Usui lives! ♥ Ayuzawa's cooking. I can't deal. Too funny! ♥ Aww! Misaki and Usui moments. My heart can't handle those two.
We always need an arrogant guy who will mess up everything. Who is he? Of course, he is Igarashi Tora from Miyabigaoka High School. One day, some people from the Maki group came to the maid-cafe and they said they will occupy that place. Misaki, with her determination, decided to participate in the frontman competition held by the Maki group. After several dramas, finally, Misaki has teamed up with Usui. Their collaboration is of course perfect.
The thing is... I am really wondering who is Usui actually? Why does he have a history with Igarashi? I think he has to be one of the heirs from some rich company that has an equal status with Igarashi's family.
I never imagined you’d throw me so completely off my game. You’re...so sneaky...Ayuzawa.
AHHHHHH!! The romance is blossoming in the most satisfying way. Girl, you know you love him. Even with his creepy tendencies <3 Goodness I needed this book before I even realized it. I can’t wait for him to use her first name! AH! It’ll be the cutest thing! I think this volume is as far as I got in the anime, and the manga is (of course) so much better. I can’t wait to keep going immediately!!
First book of September! How did I go from reading 11 books last month to only one so far this month? Well surgery + starting college doesn’t leave you in the best reading mindset or with a lot of time.
Anywho! I really enjoyed this one. The butler plot wasn’t necessarily my favorite, but that final chapter showed me how much it was needed. I LOOOVED the angst at the end with Misaki tending to Usui. Like OOF I felt some TENSION.
I really do like this series and It inspires me to read more manga. 🥰🥰🥰
Eeeeeeeeeppp!! This book was so good! I think somebody's starting to liiiike a certain someone else! Heehee.. In the fifth installment of Maid Sama!, Misa and Usui are so cute together (as usual) and this time Misa overworks herself yet again, trying to save Cafe Latte from that evil kid Igarashi (the creepy perverted one) from the rival (and more expensive) school. The sixth book promises to bring Misa and her (gorgeous) stalker even more closer. So excited to read it soon!
Misaki and Usui is definitely in my top list of power couple.
Usui is so perfect to be true but dang! It's really hard not to love this guy. Like seriously!!! And I can't think of any other girl who's perfect for him than Misaki. My! This pair is just too adorable to watch and read.
I just love everything about this manga. It was pretty funny too. And that ending!!!! Just WOW 😍😘
First time for Misaki to visit Usui's house... and serve him with extra large portion of home made porridge :D "How can I allow leftovers? It's Ayuzawa's first time cooking.." wow, this guy is so cute... suki-desu :3
If these get much better I may explode from all the squeals and laughter. We learn a tiny bit about the enigma that is Usui by finally seeing where he lives! I hope we get to find out his situation before the English volumes run out...
He puts himself out there so much for her and protects her. At least she is trying to return the favor. Though, how does someone screw up porridge that bad?
I think these two may just kill me with their adorableness. They really just might.
Usui & Violin do I need to elaborate? One of my favourite moments in the anime finally reading the manga counterpart~ Kounou is literally all of us screaming "why are they not together already!". My most beloved volume thus far.
I really enjoyed this volume c: Started out a bit meh with the whole thing with the band of douches, but redeemed itself (and more!) with the butler-esque arc. Great to see some more of the three idiots, and to see some true bonding between Usui and Misaki c:
Chapter notes below for reference: (spoiler heavy)
Okay, okay, let's start at the beginning. I LOVE that Sakura doesn't blame Misaki for that singer's behaviour. Not once. She tells him to stop and Misaki puts him in his place. I love that about this manga, no girl hate. Also, Shizuko scolding them both for causing a scene? She's my spirit animal.
On another note, I'm wary of Igarashi because he's the vindictive rich guy with enough time and money on his hand to slowly ruin someone's life. And he's got it in for Misaki and Usui both. H has past connections with Usui and I can't wait to unearth those. Then his tiny grudge swollen so large against Misaki is what concerns me. But he did something good for his friend, which makes not an entirely black-and-white bad guy, though quite close still. We'll see how his character unfolds. Misaki thinking it's her fault he's after Maid Latte is both accurate but also hurtful. The Butler segment was great. Yukimura entering with Kanou?? (Okay, this was a whole other hysterical situation. Kanou is spending time with Yukimura to get used to being around girls. Everybody in the council adores Yukimura and totally sees him as little more than a lollipop. Yukimura enters the contest to be more manly only to prove why everyone thinks otherwise. And Usui Knott? Haha. Although the anime iteration of "Watashi was Usui-Je-Nai!" just hits different.)
I love that Misaki is not oblivious to male attention but it's Usui's own gremlin behaviour that has her confused about his intentions. But she needs him and she's depending on him, and slowly yet surely, his advances no longer make her angry or uncomfortable but rather they leave her flustered. She's used to him, she likes him, and her own feelings are a bit difficult to understand. But Usui is so important to her now that she'd risk her own cause for him because he's done the same for her time and time again.
And for her to go take care of him?? Worried that he never talks about himself and even more worried to see him live on his own. And Usui! Ah, Usui... Coming to save Misaki at every moment. He may act like a perverted gremlin; more often than not, it's because he, himself, can't handle the severity of his feelings. And the moment things get serious, he has to push Misaki or pull her close. Usually, he diverts so he can pull away but in his apartment, he just had to pull her close. I just...
I'm losing my mind, your honor, and I don't mind.

Misaki going to Usui’s apartment to help him out was adorable and of course Misaki doesn’t know how to cook. So relatable. I did wonder while reading that scene, why didn’t Misaki just pour half the soup water somewhere (at the sink or in a container) and dilated the rest of the soup with water. That way the soup wouldn’t be so salty and she wouldn’t need to cook the whole ingredients.
Misaki putting Usui’s hand on her chest to prove she’s a “guy.” I saw that from the anime but why was I shocked to read it. I guess I forgot about that.
Kanou and Yukimura are cute together. I wonder if they’ll be couple or just friends by the end of the series.
