HOW IT ALL BEGAN

I started writing my first romance novel in secret. I was working a temp job in an insurance office in Manhattan at the time, and the office manager had made it clear that even if there was nothing to do, I still had to look busy-- never one of my big talents. I felt bad about the wasted time, though, and I needed something to round out my other chosen career, which was singing. Yeah, that's right. Most artists choose a more practical Plan B to back up their improbable Plan A. Me? No way. "Long Shot" is my middle name.

So I sneakily set up a Document 1 and a Document 2 with a spreadsheet on it. If my Boss du Jour walked by I could quick-like-a-bunny switch screens, and whenever the coast was clear, I went back to my story. Not that I was slacking, mind you. If there was work to be done, I did it. The sneakiness felt familiar, though, because I've been teased about reading romances since I was a kid. I think the day I finally grew up was the day I stopped trying to cover up what I was reading on the bus, train or subway. Let people think whatever they like.

It wasn't until I moved to Italy (details of that Long Shot provided later on) that I got serious about writing, though. I found myself with many long, quiet days alone with nothing to do, so I slogged my way bravely to the end of the manuscript and sent it out. Everybody rejected it-except for Kensington. I wrote for them for a few years, and then made a bid for an erotic novella for the new Brava imprint, and oh joy, they accepted it. Then I wrote BEHIND CLOSED DOORS. And so on, and so forth.

That's how I started. I can't think of anything I'd rather do. I never knew it would be so scary, and so hard . . . all that solitude and silence, a blank computer screen, and no one to blame. But still. It's worth it. It's great.

I haven't hardly had any time for reading with a lot of personal life stuff going on and school. I needed some romance in my life, and Shannon McKenna definitely fits the bill. While Sean isn't my favorite from this series, he endeared himself to me. He was so messed up. I love messed up romance novel heroes. Also loved that he had never gotten over Olivia. I could have done without his promiscuous past, but I know that was part of his issues with survival guilt. As always, Shannon McKenna draws me in with her angsty sexy love story goodness. Sean's life was full of disappointment, and letting go of Olivia and losing his twin brother nearly did him in. His destructive lifestyle and bad choices flowed out of the emotional/psychological issues he had not resolved.

Olivia is a strong, well-developed character. She let her family get away with some crap, but she I saw enough resistance in her not to feel she was a doormat. I loved that she was a plus sized girl, and Sean thought that was hella sexy. Their sexy times were volcanic. McKenna writes some great love scenes without going to or over the kinky line.

I really liked the subtle paranormal elements in that this story is about psychic abilities and the connection/bond between Sean and Kev that persists seemingly from beyond the grave. The villains are really awful and heinously evil and despicable. But don't worry. They get their just deserts.

I loved seeing the other McCloud brothers happy with their wives (and also Seth and Raine). Tam is a bonafide dangerous woman and I am eager to read her book. Of course, I adore Miles. I'm conflicted about his relationship with Cindy. I kind of like her, but I don't. She's pretty basic, to be honest.

This book was a nice relaxation and place to let my brain recover from some very hectic months and a busy schedule. I was glad I pulled this up on my Kindle to read at bed time and in free moments.

Definitely recommend Shannon McKenna if a reader wants a sexy, suspenseful and emotionally engaging romance story.

This book tells the story of Sean McCloud, youngest of the four McCloud brothers, whose stories were told previously in "Standing in the Shadows" and "Out of Control".

Sean and his brothers were raised by their paranoid and delusional widowed father in the backwoods of Washington state. Older brothers Davy and Connor and friend Seth Mackey ("Behind Closed Doors") have all settled down with wives and are starting families of their own. But Sean's life seems to be on hold. He has never gotten over the supposed suicide death of his identical twin brother Kevin 15 years ago. Nothing seems to hold his interest for long; not his various jobs or any one woman. His brothers refer to him as a "man slut" due to his prolific and shallow love life. They want him to find the kind of happiness they now enjoy with their own wives and to stop drifting thru life.

But the only woman that meant anything to Sean was his teenaged girlfriend Liv, who he cruelly dumped in order to save her life.

Sean has kept tabs on Liv for all these years, and surprisingly comes in contact with her again. He discovers that she is back in Washington and owns a bookstore that is torched by a crazed stalker who Liv refers to as "T-Rex".

Although she doesn't want to trust him, Sean convinces Liv that she needs protection until the stalker is captured, and she reluctantly lets him help her when her parents seem less than interested in believing or helping her.

Sean and Liv are on the run after the stalker makes an attempt on her life and Sean saves her. This attempt is tied into Kevin's death. Before Kevin died, he gave a note and a sketchbook to Liv to deliver to Sean. The note gives clues about a person that Kevin thought was trying to kill him. Kevin was participating in a neurological research project called the "Midnight Project" led by a diabolical doctor named Chris Osterman. The people conducting the project knew that Liv had the notebook, and want it back and her dead because they think she knows too much.

While on the run, Sean and Liv's love re-ignites with a passion, with numerous steamy encounters. But both Sean and Liv have some insecurities about themselves. Sean can't believe that a person of his background is good enough for a rich refined woman like Liv, while Liv can't believe what a charismatic and experienced man like Sean would want with a less than svelte, boring book store owner like herself.

All the characters from the previous McCloud books are back, including Seth & Raine, Margot & Davy, Erin & Connor, Miles & Cindy (Who have major roles), Tamara, and even Nick Ward has a cameo. Sean reminded me a lot of his brother Connor: witty, sometimes arrogant or overbearing, but also sweet and vulnerable, and Liv knew just how to handle him--they were great together! This book was fantastic, kept me on the edge, and the last 30 pages had some truly gruesome moments. But the ending was worth it, and I had tears in my eyes. Of all the McCloud brothers books, this one may be my new favorite. 5 stars.

My first delve into the romantic suspense genre got me the amazing Naked in Death and I was suddenly really excited to read more of these mystery books. The problem here was, where Naked in Death and the other books in the series are a deeply developed psychological murder mystery with a sweet romantic subplot that is secondary to solving the case... Edge of Midnight is sex. Lots and lots of sex and love and sex and angst and sex. There's also a stalker on the loose, but we'll get to him once we've had sex on the floor. And in the shower. And in the car. And in some dingy motel.

Do you see where this is going?

I wanted mysteries, murders, psychos, victims... yeah, I'm weird like that. But all I got was the two main characters banging the absolute hell out of each other. And seriously, curiosity has drawn me to some of the weirdest erotica before but there was something in this book that I have never even heard of and I'm not quite sure how it's possible, lol.

3 stars is quite generous for a sexfest that I thought was going to be a mystery but, to be honest, I quite liked the characters and enjoyed reading their quirky exchanges of banter. I thought the sexiest scenes were those near the beginning where they meet again after years apart - you can feel the sexual tension sizzling through the air between them!

I'm no prude but there's such a thing as too much sex in novels. In my opinion, an author should build up the tension between the characters just as they would build up the tension in a good mystery. They should make the reader want them to get together and make them sigh happily when they do. It's an all-together far more satisfying read when it's handled like that.

I absolutely loved Edge of Midnight, which is number four in the Mccloud & Friends Series. You definitely need to read these in order!

Kev McCloud committed suicide 15 years ago by driving his truck off of a cliff. Everyone thought he’d gone insane like their father had. It was a tough blow to the entire clan, especially Kev’s twin, Sean.

I’ve been anticipating Sean’s story since his brother, Conner’s, book, ,Behind Closed Doors. He’s looks like a fallen angel, and is so charming and funny that no one can resist him. He loves women. All ages, shapes, colors. He is the classic wam-bam-thank-you-mam bad boy that we cannot seem to say no to. However, prior to Kev’s death, he falls for Liv, one of Kev’s good friends. No one else matters now. Liv is the virginal good girl that has been stifled by her overbearing parents (read: mother) her entire life. She’s 18 when she meets Sean and falls hard, over a period of a month. He feels the same way. But one day, out of the blue he turns cold and dumps her and runs her away from him. She is devastated, and leaves the state to go to college. Kev dies the same day.

She leave town and has no idea her good friend Kev is dead. Sean drove her away from him over something that Kev told him, in order to protect her. She has no idea of this. Sean is devastated. Sean threw himself into life full force. He joins the service, he gets himself into all kinds of dangerous situations, trying to fight the demons inside. He can’t stop thinking about Liv or his dead brother, Kev. Every anniversary of his brother’s death he goes out and gets so hammered his brothers have to follow him around to make sure he doesn’t hurt himself or land in jail. We first see Sean in this book waking up after this night. It is slightly humorous situation as he tries to piece the night together.

Present day: Liv is being stalked by a very twisted sicko that may have had something to do with Kev’s death. Sean has kept track of Liv all these years, however she doesn’t know that. He has never stopped loving her. She still too loves him, but is still scarred over his abrupt dismissal. They end up thrown together after the stalker burns down Liv’s place of business, and Sean happens to be in town and goes to see if she is ok.

It makes me sick to learn what could have happened to Kev. Was he just a piece of meat in some psycho’s experiment? We’re talking drugs, restraints, brain control, etc. I think this is the best book of the series so far.

This book has mildly explicit loves scenes with some dominance.

I think I found my new favorite in Shannon Mckenna's McCloud series. I loved this book and I loved Sean. He's the ultimate bad boy and a consummate man slut. He's also the proverbial class clown as well as an idiot savant. He was complicated and hysterical and I couldn't stop smiling or laughing over his antics. He's described as nearly out of control with his boundless energy and what better way to work off all that energy than engaging in sweaty, all night sex fests?! Most of my enjoyment came about because of Sean and I loved his sense of humor. I'd much rather laugh than cry and it's nice to read about a romance hero who embraces the same ideals. Sean is definitely carrying a lot of inner turmoil and baggage though, but it was all nicely balanced out with the humor.

Normally I find an author I like and I just inhale their backlist....until I find a stinker and then I get real gun shy and drop the author like a diet. I read Shannon McKenna's Out of Control and I didn't like it, so I wandered away from her work, taking a break. Then I saw Edge of Midnight at the library and I thought, well, what could it hurt? I am so glad I picked this book up because it was freakin awesome.

The plot is seriously over the top and you can either go with it or you can roll your eyes and forget it. This Joseph Mengele styled storyline allows the possibility of mind control and poor Kevin McCloud is sacrificed in the pursuit of science. (or is he?) As is the blossoming love affair between Sean and Liv. Sean sent Liv away in order to protect her and now almost a decade later, she comes back home and is again targeted by the psychos who want to know what Kevin might have told her. Sean steps back into her life to act as her bodyguard, her servant, her sex slave and her own personal clown. He endearingly throws himself at her feet and it was really amusing. He's almost slavish in his adoration of Liv and I just ate it up. This is not to say that he was a doormat for Liv to walk all over. Oh, no. That wouldn't make this a Shannon McKenna book. Sean is as alpha as they come and as obsessed in his need and desire for her as any of his brothers about their wives. The sex is as gritty and raw as this fabulous author can write and their first sex romp was in Liv's childhood bedroom and there's something about using a girlhood room as the location for a no holds barred sex fest that is so naughty. *grin*

We gets lots of fun cameos with all the McCloud brothers and Seth and of course, Tamara. I love Tamara. Her wit nearly matches Sean in this one and I love her razor sharp tongue. I really, really recommend this intense and exciting story by Shannon McKenna. If you can handle a hugely aggressive alpha male who would happily lay his life down on the line for you while making you laugh your a** off, then this is the book for you. Enjoy!

He was a man-whore, she was a doormat and the sex was borderline degrading for the heroine. The excuses for the disappointing actions of a sexually promiscuous, lack-of-impulse-control "hero" were unconvincing.

...and be a decent human.

I have found some in this series interesting, with a suitably evil villain (and, occasionally, a surfeit of violence), yet I quite enjoyed reading them. This was not one of those.

This week has made me want to give up on reading. All the books I have chosen have ended up being disgusting. Why has my research failed me so abysmally this week? I need ten showers and a bottle of scotch to scrub this weeks books from my life.

I thought I'd read the worst hero ever already this week. I was wrong. This disgusting scumbag piece of shit hero is the worst. THE. FUCKING. WORST.

I liked the sound of this premise so much that when I couldn't get it on kindle I actually ordered a physical copy of the book!

So ya after that effort I was kind of disappointed. This author can actually write which is a shame because the plot and the characters are ludicrous and cartoonish. Her parents for example were just a cut out of soap opera villains!

I am all for good well written sex scenes and I thought the build up here would be great as its a second chance romance but nope the first day he walked back into her life she was screwing him that night...Against every surface! That is the other thing too the sex scenes were just too long they got monotonous. The first scene where she is in a robe and there is a slow build up to them getting together. I thought this will be great but as the scene progressed it got overly explicit and kind of took the chemistry out of the scene as the graphic detail just went on and on!

The mystery was blah...

With a woman in his bed every night- and sometimes two!- Sean McCloud seemed to be the most devil may care of his brothers. But all is not what it seems and when the love of his life re-enters his life, the mask his been wearing to cover the deep pain of his twin brother's tragic death is suddenly ripped away.

Olivia had just begun to get the independence she's always craved from her overbearing family, until an explosion destroys her beloved bookstore and an obsessed man marks her for death. All she needs is the one man who broke her heart all those year ago to come strolling back in. But that's just what happens and Sean will now stop at nothing to keep her safe- and finally come to terms with the death of his brother.

Wildly intense and highly sensual, Edge of Midnight kept the action rolling with plenty of steam to fog up even this jaded reader's reading glasses. With her typical emotional connections as well as scorching sensuality, Shannon Mckenna doesn't disappoint. If you enjoy erotic romantic suspense with over the top alpha males - you've got to read this series!

Steamy second chance love

Ah, Shannon McKenna delivers steam, suspense, and emotion in this novel. I wish the opening scene had been different though.

Sean is 32 and has been with lots of women. In fact, the opening scene is that of him with two women🙄 (the aftermath). It's the anniversary of his twin brother's death- 15 years- and he's emotional about it, just like he is every year that the anniversary comes up. He continually thinks about his brother and misses him so much. His death was a weird one- he died in a car accident and was ruled a suicide, attesting it to the fact that he had a unique mind and they were all raised by a crazy widowed father. At the same time, he cruelly dumped the love of his life- Olivia- when they were teenagers in order to save her life. His brothers Davy and Connor have moved on in their lives, finding happiness (I loved seeing them again in this book, especially with their HEAs and baby-related happiness) and they want the same for Sean.

Liv is back in town after leaving when her heart was broken- and has opened up a bookstore, but then someone burns it down. Someone also plants a bomb under her car- someone is out to get her. Her parents (especially her mom) aren't the most supportive; in fact, her mom wants her to get with OM, and the other man (Blair) pursues her. Because of what's going on with her bookstore, Sean sees what happened and tells her she needs his protection. They need to figure out what's going on and who's trying to kill her. She's hesitant to accept his help, especially after the way he hurt her 15 years before, but she's willing to concede as long as they don't blur the lines- but Sean has never been great at following rules- and he wants to blur away😈😉.

Oh, the connection between Sean and Liv was palpable🔥. I love when I read second chance romances and the h isn't a celibate little thing👏🏻, pining away for the H🙄. Although Liv wasn't a hoar, she had relationships (a couple) while Sean was busy being a manhoooooar🙄 (of course), but at least she wasn't a celibate nun donating her time to orphanages while rescuing puppies. Shannon McKenna knows how to write racy, smexy times🔥, and this is the first book I read of hers that has an H that experiences a dry O (meaning, he can continue and continue and continue). Plus, I appreciate a man that loves his woman's taste🥵... that's the kind of man that ensures his woman feels pleasure😅👏🏻💅. Their chemistry is always visceral, raw, primal, and passionate- my kind of book! So STEAMY🔥🥵😅! I loved it.

What happened to Kev (Sean's twin brother) broke my heart😞- it was so sickening and gut-wrenching. We see a bad situation that could've happened to the MCs (that happened to Kev) almost unfold; I liked that there was a PNR element with Sean's connection to Kev- just rewriting this makes me almost cry🥺. The loss of a sibling is such a painful situation, and I felt it to my bones😩. That's why Sean had such a hard time after losing his twin, especially with the risky situations he was willing to put himself through.

⚠️Safety Squad⚠️
-people die/get killed
-suicidal thoughts
-loss of a sibling
-the book opens up with the H waking up after being with 2 OW, but once the h enters the book, he's all about her and only her
-kidnapping
-noncon/dubcon (really more like dubcon)

I Spent the entire book thinking it must have been written by a large biker chic. Or possibly a dude. The plot was mildly interesting if predictably implausible, but the sex scenes were just excessive and rough to the point of being silly.

I also need to grind a personal ax here. If you're going to make your characters of a particular profession, do the world a favor and do a little research. I'll give you that not every library has been able to afford the upgrade from a card catalog to an electronic database that's accessed online. I'll even concede that some libraries keep around old, musty books, particularly in an historic research room. But once you get to the part where a major newspaper doesn't have the last 15 years of their newspaper converted to digital and that it's common for a modern librarian to be a whiz with a microfilm reader (or know how to use it at all), that pretty much equals 3 strikes and you're out (aka epic research fail). It's the digital age, people. Keep up.

Can't believe I'm writing this, but… this book has too much sex and it undermines the chemistry and emotional buildup of Sean and Olivia's relationship.

The suspense plot has tremendous potential. Unfortunately, it is completely overwhelmed by the excessive sexcapades and by the time the eventual showdown with the villains arrives it is almost an afterthought.

Sean is not as appealing a hero as I thought he would be - he is a total man slut, which is a huge turn off and his domineering attitude toward Liv is overbearing in the extreme. Liv, on the other hand, it an endearing heroine. It is lovely to see her grow in strength and confidence and come into her own - one of Sean's few saving graces is his encouragement in this area.

The secondary cast is the highlight of the book, especially Tam and surprisingly Cindy an Miles. It is unfortunate that they don't receive more page time at the end.

Wow...I have not written a review for this book...I was browsing Baba's best sex scenes shelf and this one was on it...FOR GOOD REASON, PEOPLE!!!

Sean is a dirty, nasty, messy, delicious piece of flesh! He has burried his pain from the past in the body/bodies of women for nearly a decade. Manwhore does even begin to touch Sean's rep.

But when Liv comes back into his life...all bets are off. Sean is single minded in his pursuit and uses every skill he has honed while boned to make her his!

I love this series...I love all things Shannon McKenna and I seriously loved Sean. Where Davey was dark and quiet and brooding and Con was a gentleman and reserved (read waiting but not patiently), Sean was balls to the wall and I loved him!

Status update

Still reading but this was getting too long for a status update.

Chapter 13:

1) These two are like sex machines. Actually, sex machines look at these two and go, Dude, aren't you, like, chafing by now? You're gonna lose a part if you keep at it.

2) Do not ask me to take a book seriously when I read shit like this:

Semen had always struck her as an unfortunate and somewhat comical by-product of sex[...]

This was so different. This was his body's offering. A tribute to life, poured out on an altar of passion and desire. A magic potion.

She wanted him to fill her with it, feel it trickling hot between her thighs. She wanted him to give her a child with it.

First of all: "A magic potion"?! *Giggle-snort*

Second, keep in mind that these two have been reunited for, like, maybe 12 hours, and a huge chunk of that was spent going at it like rabid howler monkeys. Add that up and you have me being seriously squicked out by Liv's train of thought. Then, just a few pages later, they are indeed going bareback. Not only that but when we faded in on Sean he had just gotten done using seven condoms on two bar-wenches. I get that he's never had sex without a condom yada yada, but condoms do not always protect against disease and pregnancy and someone with his... um... prolific sex life (at the beginning he estimated he'd had "hundreds" of women while trying to forget Liv), gloved or not, he's gotta be pushing his chances.

Review

2 "I'm finally done with this thing" stars

Yeah, this one was not for me. The writing was... well... while I didn't find a lot of grammatical errors, I did find some plotting issues that drove me a little nuts. I'd quote them for the review, but I returned the e-book back to the library as soon as I was done reading. I'm a big fan of you-done-me-wrong second chance romances, but honestly, these two were so busy doing each other, there wasn't much time for the melodrama.

Sean let the love of his life, Liv, go 15 years ago for her own good, telling her that he'd romanced her as part of a bet, then had gotten bored before he could win it. A few days later, his brother turned up dead and ever since then he's been burying his pain in the vaginas of any woman he could find. (PS His pain is his penis.)

He finds out Liv's in town and immediately uses the power of his incredible schlong to seek her out, as if his penis is Lassie and Liv is Timmy (and then the implications of this simile got a little disturbing, so I'm going to stop it here). They do each other a few times, then there's a bit of plot, they do each other some more, then Liv gets kidnapped by a sadistic creep who's been almost as obsessed with her as Sean has been over the last few years, Sean goes to save her, they do each other some more, they hide, they do each other, they hide again... You see where this is going?

Off the top of my head, one of the issues I had were things like the allegedly uber-intelligent and dangerous bad guys being unable to find Liv after she left town. Seriously, she moved to another place, it isn't like she changed her name or appearance. Hell, her parents were so willfully stupid, the bad guys probably could have found her at any point by pretending to be Ed McMahon delivering a check to her door. Her mother probably would have drawn the guy a map and sent him an escort.

Then there was Cindy. Oh dear God Cindy. Every time I would think, how TSTL can this character be, she'd do something a little bit stupider. At one point I honestly began to wonder if Cindy had gone to the Dawn Summers School of Most Likely to Fuck Up Something Characters.

Cindy was so ridiculously determined to get herself killed, I actually began to wonder if she should have been considered brain dead.

Then there were things like Liv's parents

At the end of the day, I got through this one through sheer force of will and I am in no way interested in continuing with the series, the characters, or the author. They could have all been run over by an eighteen wheeler halfway through the story and I would have just been happy that the story ended that much sooner.

I read only about 20 percent and skimmed parts of the rest (mostly the ones involving naked bodies) because after 15 pages I hated the book with the passion of a thousand suns. I pondered this unusual fact and the main offender for me was definitely the language. Partly written in some dumbed down and bastardized 21st century version of a film noire private dick's monologue it felt coarse and sloppy*. The washed up hero is supposed to be quite intelligent (in the well known bright, but too much of a bad boy to apply himself in school way) but judging from his colloquial POV you'd never expect an IQ higher than 80. I know, I know it's all done to underscore his manly manliness but that is just not the kind of man I want to read about. Interspersed are examples of (unwilling?) poetry, like this one:
[Hero ponders the effect he has on the heroine's chest]
So his sweet talk still made her cheeks blush pink and her brights go on, ping. Raspberries, crowning the jouncing ta-tas.
... That's kind of hilarious. Most of the time it was just 'plump tits' for him.

Furthermore I don't especially like the trope of a (slightly) overweight female protagonist agonizing about her weight. Just make her a size 14 (commendable) and let her own it.
The hero indiscernibly fucked every women in his vicinity, was unhinged, crazy, demanding, obsessed with his first love, had an inferiority complex regarding said love and thought he was far funnier than warranted. All that can make for a great story but here it didn't work for me.

There was nothing sensual about the sex scenes (even though some minor parts were quite hot). It seemed more like an extensive list of sexual practices had to be ticked off one by one.

* Full disclosure: As English is not my first language there could always be the possibility that something here alluded me.

Wow. There was lots o sex in this book. Id venture to say roughly 1/3 of the book was sex. It’s a big book too. I read while I’m at work. That was awkward.

Sex aside, this was my first McKenna and aside from the similarities with our names, I didn’t connect with the story much. I guess I have a hard time believing the jump back into your first loves bed without much thought…without really having been there in the first place. The basis of the story was great had I not been jumping back and forth trying to keep the angst straight. There’s only so many smoldering looks and clothing ripping you can take before you wish for something a bit more nutritious from your books. I wish she had developed the story more. It left me strangely empty when I read the last page and I had many unanswered questions. I need more story, not just rough sex.

Id take it or leave it for recommendations. Looking for a good smut book, this is for you. Hubby like to read? Give it to him to read while you’re away on a business trip. Looking for a meat and potatoes story, you’ll have better luck just fixing dinner.

First book I read by McKenna and I instantly became a fan. I should have read the others but I found this because it was a new book in the New Books section. So I gave it a try. And let me tell you, this book is HOT. I loved it! I even read it a second time and I never do that. The suspense is gripping, the steamy romance between Sean and Olivia is majorly hot, and I loved everything about it. Well developed. One thing though that might piss you off: Olivia's mother is a major b*tch and very irritating. 5/5 stars.

I hated this book so much that I almost swore off Shannon McKenna. The main guy, Sean McCloud, is seriously a big loser. He's obsessively in love with this fat girl (whom he constantly refers to as "the goddess"). Of course, all she does is spite him and treat him like dirt. Ugh. I hated this book. Only read it if you like heroes that have no dignity, no shame, and no self-respect. And if you enjoy reading about mean, hateful fat girls.

This isn't my favorite of the McCloud series. It's still a good book but this is where the series takes a turn. The previous three books are all pretty straightforward thrillers. There's the damsel in distress and the hero determined to keep her safe. There are hints of telepathy in the other books. Davy for instance in book three claims to see a shadow hanging above the face of his love interest. In book four (this book) the author really starts to bring in this theme and begins to make it a common thread throughout the series.

I enjoyed the romance between Sean and Liv the lady from his past. She was the bookish beauty and he the boy from the wrong side of the tracks and the town trash. Now they're all grown up and back in Endicott Falls where everything began. A few mysteries from the previous books are solved and a few more mysteries begin. Unfortunately that leaves this particular installment feeling more like filler then a novel in it's own right. But don't be discouraged. It's still a pretty good book and the series picks up again with the next book which is my all time favorite!

Rating~ 4 stars.

Short review:

I just skimped through the last book to understand what was happening so I could Sean's book. This is Sean (the youngest of Mccloud's brothers) and his first love Oliva's book.

Sean at certain times reminded me of Connor with the way he acted with liv trying make her laugh for example yet being protective of her at the same time. Sean never really got over his twin's death especially with him dreaming about him and feeling his presence which made him become a thrill seeker in very aspect of his life. Liv was heartbroken when Sean broke up with her but she moved on with her life. Though she does not want to get involved with him again she can't help herself. I really liked Sean and Liv together.

Sean and Liv go through a lot in this book and the mystery surrounding his twin brothers death is solved. I wasn't quite sure where Miss Mckenna was going with that but the ending helped with that.

I loved this book as much as the 3 books in the series before it. I really like that the characters from the previous books where also in this book.
Sean was a total hunk! Oh he had some problems just as Davy did but boy the guy sure knew how to go to it between the sheets, lol!
I liked Liv too. She was smart, witty, brave and not a perfect size 5. She did cry a bit, but who would not after going through what she did.
I liked the side story of Cindy and Miles. I especially liked what Shannon did with Mile's character.
The bad guy's once again were really bad. They kept the story very interesting.
So what's a girl to do after reading 4 awesome books in a series? Why, read the next one and that's exactly what I'm gonna do.

So pretty much this book is soft-core porn. I would like to state that I didn't know that when I picked it up, it just sounded like your average romantic suspense book, a no brainer, but something to read while my students do their silent reading. And up to about page 80 it was... and then the characters pretty much jumped on each other and didn't stop until the end of the book. It made no difference that they were running for their lives, they still had plenty of time for sex. And seriously, I don't know how either one of them was capable of having the amount of sex they had in this book 'cause at some point I'd think they either get sore or just plain bored.

Loved this book. best in the series so far. It is packed with action and the story is very good. lots of sweet and hot moments between Sean, the youngest McCloud brother and his HEA Liv. She is a strong character, no super heroine but intelligent and loving.
I was happy that Miles plays a major part in this book. He is one of my favourite characters in the series. I was hoping for him having his own novel though. He is so different from the McCloud brothers who are all amazing looking sex gods, while Miles has no experience to talk about. This makes him really cute.
Tam played her role well as super bitchy host, but I can't imagine reading a book all about her.

This was a rather macabre and disturbing read and just really, really, really sad on so many levels. It left me feeling really melancholy and with a heavy feel in my heart. What happened to Sean was so incredibly sad. The villains got away way too easily and there is no discussion in the end as to whether anyone was held accountable for the heinous crimes. The heroine's mother was just awful too. I am really not a fan of Olivia, the heroine, either. I thought she was a little self-absorbed. After what Sean went through, she could have been more understanding. I feel like I need to go read something light and silly as an antidote for this book.
