878 AD, Norway. The fight to secure Harald Fairhair’s throne is over, but one last battle sends a crew of Viking Warriors on a desperate, bloodsoaked quest.
Hundr, a Northman with a dog's name... a crew of battle hardened warriors... and a voyage that will determine the fate of Ragnarok itself.
The crew of the warship Seaworm sail the Whale Road across Viking Europe in search of a spear said to have been forged for Odin himself. Ragnhild, Hundr’s sword-sister and Valkyrie Priestess, must recover the mythical weapon if she is to be restored to her order. The Burned Man stands in their way, a vicious warlord bent on vengeance who will stop at nothing to kill Hundr and his old friend Einar the Brawler.
Hundr must join the war for King Alfred’s nascent Kingdom of England and venture home, to the great city of Novgorod. Can he survive brutal attacks and vicious shield wall battles in this fast paced adventure with striking characters and bloodthirsty action?
Valkyrie Rising continues the unmissable Viking historical fiction saga series which began with Award Winning Author Peter Gibbons' debut novel Viking Blood and Blade.
I am an author based in Kildare in Ireland, with a passion for Historical Fiction, Fantasy, Science Fiction, and of course writing! My books include the Viking Blood and Blade Saga and the Saxon Warrior Series. You can visit my own website at www.petermgibbons.com or find me on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/Peter-Gibbon...
What a story this was, fast paced, bloody and the taking of excitement to a whole new level. The reader is transported to the stronghold of the vicious and highly feared Valkyrie female warriors, where our heroic band undertakes a quest to recover a mythical 'spear of the gods'. What then follows is a spate of spell binding sea battles, all out war, the taste of defeat and a return to where it all began. Phew, this was probably the best Viking tale I have ever read - highly recommended!
Best of the series so far so well written! Peter is brilliant at leading you through a gripping / heart warming in places! story This really was my favourite book so far. Thankyou Peter!!
A ^ Read for Those Hungering for Blood and Fighting
Gibbons shows he is quite skillful at creating a warp and weft of events that would make the Norns jealous and angry a mere man has this skill.
The characters change as some go to Valhalla to await Ragnarok. Others step forward to take a place as they mature and exceed expectations, be it good or bad.
There are a few areas that are repeating earlier phrases or descriptions, that could make one believe the ‘puter is being used for copy-paste…but I am quite sure it was not done literally. It’s always good to remind a reader of previous info and events.
Great writing, especially the shield wall battles. I really enjoy this story li e and characters. Only complaint, Mr Gibbons seemed to excited to use the words “thought cage” in place of any cranial activity. The first time he plugged it in I thought, cool, but by the sixth or seventh time it became silly. Jmho love the books, just being honest. Don’t get hung up on fun phrases
What more can I add other than it left me salivating like a rabid dog for (hopefully) book six. I am truly an advocate of Peter’s historical writing, it is dramatic, funny, descriptive yet believable I believe I have said it previously, it draws you in, makes you part of the adventure.
Ragnhild wishes to return to her Valkyrie sisters because of a vision of Odin. The priestess sends her on a quest to return a spear that was stolen. Hundr and his men follow Ragnhild all over Europe for the spear but that are also being being pursued by Rollo's men. A lot of violence and bloodshed.
This book is 5th in its series, I've read all the previous books as well. They are all just awesome, this one was extra awesome. I don't know if it's because Hundr finally faces his brother and kicks his ass, or the whole valkyrie side show, but it was just an amazing, exciting, gripping read.
Super excellent series if you're a viking warrior freak like me. I was hooked from the 1st chapter of the first book in this Blood and Blade series and read them all. This author goes above and beyond in his descriptions of characters and battle scenes. You can literally visualize what's happening as if it were a movie. This series should be movies.
Glad I found Peter Gibbons and will definately be reading and following all his stuff. THANK YOU!
After watching Vikings on TV and knowing all of Ragnar's sons names, this was a interesting twist on their story as Hundr forged his on legacy. Enjoyable and hoping for more.
I'm gutted now because this series is over. I have really enjoyed these books. I have read them one after the other. Non stop action and brilliant characters. I recommend you read this series, you won't be sorry.
I’ve really enjoyed reading this series, always action-packed from beginning to end, with good characterisation and graphic descriptions of life and places of those times. Great history too. Recommended.
The Viking are so wrong in how they take from others but live a die by a code with no complaints except for the powerful as always power corrupts even those that live by a code
For an author to describe battle so vividly is a treat not to be taken lightly. Hunr is saved by friends and occasionally a foe, so the story continues... I'm not waiting to read what comes next. Thank you for a story well told, Peter.
A blood curdling adventure that thrills the reader while occasionally shocking with its brutal realism. The writer has a gift for keeping his readers turning the pages and always wanting more adventures.
I like this series . My only downer is that too many of the characters had some Version of Sidburg in their name , I was confused as shit ! Boys. Girls , probably even a sidberg horse!
I'm not even sure what to say!! Once you start reading, you can't put it down. All five of the books I've read so far have been awesome from cover to cover!!!
