One of the few books/short stories by Moira Rogers that I felt could have given us a bit more. For the most part I find her writing leaving me wanting to read more because I find the characters interesting and explosive, not because I think the story wasn't fully explored. In this case, I could have done with a little more back story or a little more on how Rais and Avani grow to love one another while trying t learn about each other. Which isn't to say that I didn't like the story itself- I did. I did a lot. I could have just used a little more of it.

So. Avani is in training at the Temple of Luna to become one of the priestesses who help the warriors soothe their savage sides through sex and release. Rais is the son of the king, next in line himself, who is reaching a time in his life when he must choose a mate who will become queen. He remembers Avani as a young girl, little does he know that she's all grown up now and she's been in love with him for years.

I enjoyed Savage Possession by Moira Rogers, though I felt a bit confused, like I'd walked into the middle of a conversation. The character interaction was great, hot scenes and good emotional depth, but it read like I was missing a bunch of subtext and history, both with the characters and the storyline. This novella had the feel of an offshoot of a larger work or series, where the fabric of the world had already been woven and the characters introduced, and this short piece was just a tasty extra. If so, I'll be searching for the stuff I'm missing, because it was a yummy taste and I want to know more.

The world in the Temple of Luna series seems interesting, but it isn't developed that much. It is a society of shapeshifters ruled by a king, a mixture of magic and technology. Warriors visit the temple of Luna and its priestesses for their needs. It is a highly sensual society.
As an heir to the throne, Rais has an obligation to choose a mate soon. He isn't that eager until he sees Avani, whom he remembers as a young girl. More than half of the story is sex. The rest is these two coming to terms with what they want.

This is a world of shifters ruled by royalty and at war with humans. They have tech; video feeds and so on, but they rely on their shifter ways for some things.
Prince Rais is given a leave pass by the army healer to go spend some time at the Temple of Luna where the trained priestesses can handle shifter sex. But the first girl he sees is the daughter of one of his generals, a child he’s known for years, but now she’s all grown up.
Not a full priestess yet, but if Rais says he wants Avani, he’ll get her.

I was digging in the cellar of my Kobo app. Technically, I clicked the ‘sort old to new’ button… but whatever.
Moira Rogers is an older pseudonym for the pair who write these days as Kit Rocha and you can see all kinds of seeds for their O’Kane series in here mixed around with their other shifter series.
Like a lot of other readers, I felt like there was a big chunk of world building story missing.
But it was sexy and an easy read.

Savage Possession Temple of Luna book 1

Not one of my favorites

Rais is the son of the king and it has been many moons since he has taken a women. During a war this is unheard of as it is needed to soothe the savage beast inside of him since he is a wolf shifter. He wasn’t looking forward to taking one this time either, not because he didn’t enjoy a females company but because he was bored with them falling over him because of his status. He wanted something else, someone different and after running into Avani in the hall, he knew now who that was. He had known Avani since she was a small child but now at twenty-two she works in the Temple of Luna to become a priestess that will help to soothe the warriors when they come in from the battle field by using sex and magic.

Avani has been in love with Rais since she was a little girl but she has never treated him as the future king, she still saw him as the friend that he had always been when visiting her family. Can she be what he needs when he calls her to his chambers? After all she’s on the verge of being kicked out because she isn’t very good at taking orders and calming the warriors. She prefers to push boundaries rather than listen and do as she’s told.

This probably the first book by Moira Rogers that didn’t really hold my interest and I’ve read almost all of them now. It’s written as if it’s in the future during a war but doesn’t really give a specific time line. I believe that if there was more back story on the two main characters, Rais and Avani that I could have connected more with them and enjoyed it more. It isn’t a bad book, don’t get me wrong but it’s not nearly up to par as the rest of her books. At the time of this review this entire series is free if you have Kindle Unlimited.

I am new to the books of Moira Rogers. I read Crux and found it interesting enough to want to read more from this author. I am sorry to say I did not enjoy Savage Possession as much as I did Crux. The story opens in a temple where the priestesses soothe the savage warriors by having amazing sex with them. It seemed a little distasteful, a society dedicated to promoting women as sexual objects to be used for "relief." The characters involved are supposed to be werewolves, involved in a war with humans. Unfortunately, this aspect was not detailed enough in the story for me. I wanted to learn more about the war, and why it was happening. And one brief scene of people turning into wolves and running in the forest was all we really get. I was a little disappointed.

I won this one in a contest a while back on Bree's and Donna's (the 2 authors who are Moira Rogers) blog. I grabbed it now cuz I wanted something hot to keep me warm and that it really did. I found the world it's set in a bit confusing at first but after a few pages I new my way around and fell in love with our characters. Our couple was so different- Avani seemed so shy and Rais like a raging beast, but they found their way with just a few complications. Nice shifter story with the right amount of alpha male

As explosively heated as are all the shorts written by the author and very enjoyable but without giving me the need to read more in the series. Usually I cannot get enough of the world and characters the author lovingly creates but in this case this first short story is more than enough as it just did not strike a chord the way other works have in the past. There was just something missing that left me feeling kind of at a loss at the end but at the same time happy the characters found their HEA.

Another phenomenal Moira Rogers book!

Some things are meant to be…

A wonderful book which is full of erotic romance. With characters you can associate with this story is fantastically involved. Avani and Rais are complex and deep individuals who have plans for their future mapped out. Sometimes plans are made without full knowledge – this short novel delves into the belief that plans can be changed when fate takes a hand.

What an interesting series! The Temple of Luna is a place where priestesses calm the savage sexual appetites of the warriors that defend the people. Avani is one such priestess, only she is too gentle and will soon be released from service. Rais is heir to the throne, but he knew Avani before she joined the temple, and he wants her for his own. The only problem is that Avani wants love, and nothing less than love. I would read more from this author.

This was a very short fantasy romance with a lot of sex, but I don't think I'd call it erotica even though that's the way it is sold - the most emphasis was placed on the emotional relationship between heroine and hero and the compromises they had to make to be together.

I think this would have been even better as a full size novel.

P.S. There is some very light bondage involved.

Basically just Porn With Plot, but I thought it fairly un-erotic. Too much indelicate pounding and what I consider ugly language. Plus, I thought the bondage made no sense in context and the 'romance' felt unsupported. I did think it interesting that they were at war with the humans. Don't find many stories about our enemies.

I enjoyed it well enough. I felt I needed more about this world. I felt just thrown in. I wanted to know more about the war, and what happens if the soldiers, when they go too long without seeing the priestesses for "relief". These are some of the elements that were lacking for me. Otherwise if your looking for short and some steamy scenes, this is it.

Oh wow. Steamy without being tawdry.

I will tell you that there should have been more character development so that we could have gotten a sense of the world and their places in it. As it stands, there are a some things that are a bit confusing. Especially for a first book.

Either way, it's hot and interesting and short, so perfect for a late night zing.

So mindnumbingly boring I couldn't even finish, which, concidering the audiobook is less than 2 hours long, is really saying something. Blech.

This was a short, light read. Full of really good sex and an ending that made me smile. It was sweet, without being suffocating. It only took me about an hour to read, maybe less.
