This was pretty good...definitely took an unexpected turn.

Characters:
Amy is nice but also extremely selfish...if you know something about someone that they can't remember, it's best to TELL THEM! They deserve to know.
Wan was a sweet guy, and I enjoyed his character and the amnesia trope.

Romance:
Slight romance... kind of awkward due to the past and also fast at the end...like, wow...okay.

Language:
N/A

Violence/Gore:
Burns, explosions, poison darts, snakes, piranhas, scars, fever, suffocation...etc.

Overall:
This was pretty good...the reaction to injuries felt a tad unbelievable, and the villain just wasn't selling it for me...lol...
But it was pretty good.

This one was a step up from the first book. I appreciated the characters, the complex mystery, and the message of forgiveness.

Another really, really great read by Lynette Eason!

This is the ninth book of Eason's I've read, and I have yet to be disappointed!!!
I really enjoyed this book! It was quite a unique storyline, I loved that the story was set in the jungle in Brazil! I loved the suspense!

However, it did take me a while to fully 'get into' this story, and I don't really know why that was. Could've just been my mood! But once I fully embraced it, wow what a great ride!

Highly recommend, and can't wait to read the rest of the series!!!

River of Secrets was a fun read. I liked the characters (for the most part) and it was a fast read. I love amnesia stories and so that aspect was super interesting to me. It didn't last long, but I enjoyed it. I found some moments with Micah and/or Amy annoying, but I pretty much enjoyed their journey. The ending was good and probably my favorite part.

I did not like this story at all, so many lies, deception and bad decisions.

This is a mini ‘Books For Christian Girls’ review. It is not a full content review and will not receive one. These mini-reviews are years old and just for clarity on the rating the book received on Goodreads.

4/5/2015-
“I really liked all the Spiritual Content but all the Sexual Content hints and gore made this book receive a lower rating.”

Main Content-
*Blood, Burns, & Wounds (up to semi-detailed); Fighting, Knives, & Poison (up to semi-detailed); Murders (barely-above-not-detailed); Minor cussing (dumb, idiot, and stupid); Mentions of curses (said, not written); When Amy was a teenager, she had a fake ID & would go to bars; Mentions of bars.

Probably the least well-written of Eason's that I have read so far. Commas in particular seemed to be a big challenge for the author or editor, leaving a number of sentences with ambiguous or humorous meaning. Also, a number of things were unexplained

Other than that, though, I enjoyed the dynamics between the two (which was refreshingly lightly described, rather than with heavy romantic drama) and absolutely loved the ending.

14+ for some violence

I found an older book of Lynette Eason's. I would say it was a 3.5 so I rounded it up to 4. Not sure what it was about this book; but I never really got what was the reason for the Mother's betrayal. It just didn't come together as well as other books I have read by Eason.

Orphanage and hospital manager Anna Freeman has asked Nurse Amy Graham to come and help out at the Amazon hospital. Amy is only too glad to accept. Still reeling from the hurt of finding out about her mother's illegal activities, Amy wants to try and make amends. She is already funding the repairs to the damage the buildings took on her mother's orders, but nursing is her vocation and here she can reach out to hurting people...

...People like their mystery patient, an amnesiac who turned up on their doorstep a year ago, more dead than alive. A man they have named Juan. A man who keeps being targeted. Someone knows who he is, & that someone doesn't want him to live.

When Amy sees the birthmark, she knows immediately who he is: Micah McKnight, her best friend's brother, a man M.I.A. - the man her own mother set up to die!

Amy is scared to tell him the truth, afraid he will blame her for her mother's sins. It also means she now can't ask him to help her as she contacts her family within the rebel camp. As Amy makes enquiries about her family, suddenly she also becomes a target.

I enjoyed this very fast paced, action filled sequel, also dealing with love and forgiveness. You do need to read Lethal Deception first, as it provides a lot of the background and detail for this story, and is where we first meet Amy and find out about Micah.

Some excitement here. Mostly at the end. Maintains a good pace. Has a happily-ever-after ending but not a bad story, all in all.

A nice christian romance but was really predictable. A light fluffy read but not real deep.

It's a romance novel without the sex and it's good. It teaches lessons about keeping secrets with a little intrigue.

This book started out good but went downhill fast. I liked Micah but as the story progressed I liked Amy less and less.

When Amy realized who Micah was and never told him that was the start of not liking her. Someone was trying to kill Micah and had he been told who he was it may have helped him. She was very selfish and everything was about her.

Amy is constantly asking God for help in everything. Example: God what should I do, okay I'll go to him. She goes to Micah and then, God what should I tell him. Okay, I'll tell him but not everything just yet. It came off as if God was sitting next to her having an actual conversation with her.

I enjoy Christian Romance stories however this book was over the top on the Christian part. I've read this authors series, Lake City Heroes and Danger Never Dies and wonder if maybe the author realized from her earlier writings that less is better.

There were many little things as well that didn't add up however I've spent enough time on this book.

A light fluffy read. The story itself I enjoyed well enough. The writing overall I felt like took a step down from the first one. I feel like there were some things that I had questions about that could have been fleshed out more that weren't. A few things I would have liked more clarity on. I was really excited to see Micah and it was fun to get to know him. Also, Amy is a nurse, but we really didn't see her doing any of that kind of thing. Also, with Micah being a Navy SEAL it mentions that was going to check in with his commanding officer, but then it doesn't ever address anything like that again. The whole time Amy and Micah just needed to sit down and have a long conversation about a lot of things, but it kept getting interrupted. And there are things I feel like Amy should have explained better to Micah and never did. Overall though it was a fun story and I enjoyed it.

"River of Secrets" is a Christian romantic suspense. Though the second book in the series, it works as a standalone. However, Gabe's description of how Micah got left behind is provided in the first book. Someone's trying to kill Micah, but he can't remember his past and so has no idea who or why. Amy has a tendency to go off on her own to meet with criminals without effective backup, so his hands are full. (She's trying to find a relative and help her get away from the criminals.)

The main characters were likable, honorable, and well-meaning. Amy and Micah came to care for each other as they spent time together, and Micah admired Amy's faith. The suspense came from the danger from the attacks, from the jungle, and from not knowing who was trying to kill Micah.

There was no sex or bad language.

The best way I can describe this book is that the story is forced. I loved the first book in this series, but this one had a lot of holes and unexplained things. For instance, the main character is a nurse who has gone to help at an orphanage. She never does anything nurse-like, except to sort medicines?? At one point, the director requests someone go for a doctor because a child is having a serious allergic reaction. What does the main character, a nurse, do? She goes to her room to cry over a man! Really??!?
Overall, I liked the characters, but many things in the story were quite frustrating and distracting. While I gave this one 3 stars, it is more like a 2 and a half.

Brazilian adventures

River of Secrets by Lynette Eason is book 2 in the Refuge from Danger series. Micah McKnight is a SEAL who went missing two years prior. He somehow survived a bombing, winding up in a coma for almost a year. His sister's best friend has taken her nursing degree to the wilds of the Amazon to work at an orphanage, and it is Amy (the bff) who recognizes Micah (who was also an amnesiac) and together they attempt to solve the mystery of six failed murder attempts targeting Micah. Typical of Eason, a well crated novel

Lynette Eason never disappoints! If you want to feel the adrenaline flowing through you pick up one of her books. This is a three book series though it can be read alone. This book shows how God works in mysterious ways. Her books always have characters who have faith, struggle with whether God can be trusted or through seeing the faith of those around them realize they want what the person of faith has. I’m having so much fun working my way through either listening to or reading all her books and some I have done both.

From the Brazilian jungle comes an intriguing suspense novel. Amy has suffered from the sinister plot of her mother and is now working in an orphanage far away from her family. She is also nursing badly burned amnesia victim back to health - something seems familiar to her about him but she just can't put her finger on it! Human trafficking looms large in this jungle community and as Amy works to find her family members, she is caught up in a web of deceit and danger. Book 2 will keep you flipping pages late into the night!

A dizzying suspenseful read

Set completely in the Brazilian Amazon. The development of the story flowed and the heartbreak and emotions that ran through characters was palpable.

The characters were true to their personalities and the dangers of the Amazon were just as real and nerve wreaking. I liked this better than the first, but I think that is because it was a little more suspenseful and I enjoyed these two characters more as well as the orphanage setting.

A River of Pleasure

It was exciting and a pleasure to read this book. Reading about how one of the main characters dealt with attempts on his life after being in a coma for two years, only to wake up with amnesia was definitely a great opener to this story. The characters’ relationship with God and His purposes for their lives was spiritually heartwarming and kept readers pondering and reclaiming their own interest in overcoming evil with good!

I wish goodreads used half stars, if so this would be 3.5. Overall I liked the premise but there were a lot of details that were just too farfetched for me. I also felt that Amy was sometimes hard to like, she was often oblivious enough that she almost came off as lacking empathy. I did think the author did a decent job of keeping the suspense up over who the suspect was.

The twists and turns through the story keep the reader on guard. Good main characters with authentic emotions. Someone's out to kill "John Doe" and no one can figure out who.
