Beverly Marie Inman was born on 23 December 1946 in Tuscumbia, Alabama, USA. Daughter of Doris Marie and Walter D. Inman Jr. A born romantic, she fell in love with The Beauty and the Beast epic at an early age, when her grandfather bought her an illustrated copy of the famous fairy tale. Even before she learned to read and write, her vivid imagination created magical words and fabulous characters inside her mind. Movies fascinated her, and by the time she was seven she was rewriting the movies she saw on television and at the local theater to give them all happy endings. By the age of nine she'd penned her first novel. She wrote short stories, TV scripts, poetry, and novels throughout high school and into college.

After her marriage to Billy Ray Beaver, the "love of her life", and the births of her two children, Beverly continued to be a voracious reader and a devoted moviegoer, but she put her writing aspirations on hold until her children were teenagers. At every age of their lives, from infancy to adulthood, the children had been a true joy to her. She devoted herself to her husband and children and considered herself one of the many selfless "supermoms" who put their family's needs first. She believed she had had it all, just not all at the same time.

In her mid-30s, Beverly returned to her former passion — writing — as a hobby, but before 40, she decided that she wanted to make writing a full-time career. And when she rediscovered an old dream — of becoming a published writer — no one was more supportive of her aspirations than her family. Her children were her greatest cheerleaders and her husband was her biggest supporter. After writing over 40 books and receiving numerous awards and nominations, as well as having books on the USA Today list and consistently on the Waldenbooks bestseller list, her career was indeed a dream come true. Having a fantastic family and fabulous friends, as well as making a living doing the one thing she had loved doing since childhood, she considered herself truly blessed. Beverly died suddenly of heart failure on 21 April 2011.

Sanctuary is the third book in Raintree series, the conclusion of the feud and animosity between Raintree and Ansara clan which erupted into battle since two hundred years ago.

A Dranir (king) of Ansara, Judah Ansara, accidentally met Mercy Raintree, the most powerful empath and a princess of Raintree, when she was so young and naïve. He knew who she was instantly so he seduced her and took her virginity. While Judah felt like he gained a little victory over the Raintree, Mercy had no idea of his true identity and fell in love with her enemy. But late into the night when his seed took root within her, she then knew that she would give birth to an Ansara. As soon as she found the mark of the Ansara on his neck, she fled him. Seven years later, they met again. This time he found out that he had a daughter, princess Eve, whom he never knew existed. When his insane brother who had tried to kill him discovered about his half Ansara-half Raintree child, Judah had to do everything in his power to protect her.

For the fact that they were enemies, how could they possibly have a future together? Or they had to kill each other just to protect their clans.

The plot idea was very good but it didn't quite deliver as expected. I was a bit disappointed, but not with the whole story.

5 stars for the action part.
It was apparently amazing and expressive, a mix of excitement and dread. The moment Mercy lifted the powerful Ancelin’s sword from its resting place, in order to be a troop leader, I suddenly felt a jolt of excitement and goosebumps ran down my arms. The arrival of Dante, a Dranir of Raintree, and Gideon, his brother, made this battle scene perfect.

1 star for the romantic part.
I felt no love connection between Judah and Mercy. They had spent less than twenty-four hours together so I think they knew nothing about each other. In my eyes, what they had together was just a physical attraction. After Judah had known about his daughter, he spent most of his time with Eve, so how would he be able to get to know Mercy better? Moreover, I hated one of the sex scenes that he took advantage of her while she was exhausted, and then forced her to have sex with him. It didn’t matter how strong feelings she had for him, what he did was wrong. She tried to run away and she said no. A woman said NO. Why was it so hard for him to understand? Not only didn’t he care what she said, but he also told her that he would take her anyway he could and he intended to have her that night no matter what. Oh, well, excuse me, buddy! You could call it whatever you wanted, but I called it rape! Argh!

By the way, I was surprisingly satisfied with the twist ending. Aside from the things I didn’t like about this book, I enjoyed reading it for the most part. So I ended up giving this one 3 stars.

This was my first book by Beverly Barton and my least favorite story of the trilogy.

The first 3/4 of the story happen at the same time of books 1 and 2. Mercy is Dante and Gideon little sister, she has the gift of empathy and is the guardian of the Sanctuary, the sacred Raintree home place.

Judah is the Dranir of the Ansara clan.

If I liked Mercy, I'm not sure about Judah. Also, I couldn't believe in their couple.

I rounded up my rating because of
- Eve's character,
- The general story arc was well thought,
- And, last but not least, because Mrs Barton did a great job of making a coherent end for the trilogy.

description

Neyse hikayemize dönersek bizim gözü dönmüş sapık kardeş Cael Ansara- ki aynı İvan Medlov gibi kafayı sıyırmış biriydi- yıllardır Raintree'lere savaş açıcam, onları yenicem ve bu arada da kardeşimi öldürerek tahta çıkıb Drainir ben olucam diye yapmadığı kötülük kalmadı.Ah biri şu adamın kafasına bir silah dayasın dedim

description

Aynı anda Raintree Royal ailesini-Dante,Gideon,Mercy- öldürmek için adamlar gönderir.Tabii Mercy'ye hazılanan suikast Judah'ı sinirlendririr o bana ait onu öldürecek biri varsa da benim diyerekden jetine atladığı gibi gidib kızımızın hayatını kurtarır:D

Tabii hesablamadığı bir şey vardır.Eve Raintree :D Kız Judah'ı görür görmez Hello Daddy I'm your daughter demezmi?

War with their archrival, the evil Ansara clan, is unavoidable. For Mercy Raintree, a war means she must assume her position as guardian of the Sanctuary—the sacred Raintree home place deep in the Smoky Mountains. But doing so threatens to disclose her most prized secret—one Mercy has kept to herself for six years.

As the solstice looms and the battle heats up, Dranir Judah Ansara gathers his forces, intending to wipe every Raintree from the face of the land. Including Mercy, whom he’s claimed as his to kill. Then he comes face-to-face with her—and with her daughter, Eve. Will Mercy’s closely guarded secret change not only the outcome of the battle—but also Judah’s own bitter heart?

This is the third and final book in the Raintree trilogy, and sadly my least favorite. It also takes place at the same time as the first and second book but at the actual Raintree Sanctuary where Mercy, Dante & Gideon’s younger sister, lives with her daughter Eve. The book starts with the Ansara’s council meeting where Cael, Judah the Ansara Dranir’s half brother, is waiting for news of his brother’s death. When Judah’s enters the council and tells of his failed assassination attempt Cael tries for damage control, speaking of warriors who grow restless on waiting for the attack on Raintree. Judah learns of another warrior who has left for North Carolina to kill Mercy and take control of the Sanctuary. Judah states that not only is the Raintree Dranir Dante his kill, but he also claims Mercy as his as well.

Mercy is a powerful healing empath who can take others pain onto herself and heal them. While helping a couple that was is a wreck near the Sanctuary (a set-up via the Ansaras), Cael has an Ansara assassin attempt to take her life. Judah kills one of his own clan to protect her, only to state she is his to kill. He returns her home where Eve not so matter of factly declares that he is her father (this whole part of the book seemed farfetched). As Judah stays at the Sanctuary he learns about their child, her powers and Mercy’s decision to keep her from him as a civil war amongst the Ansaras ensues during Cael’s battle for Dranir.

I was not Judah’s fan. In fact I still don’t like him and I finished the book. He was just too much Alpha male that he came off as a class A douche bag. He never softened during the whole book and constantly displayed dominance in every situation. I’m also a bit disappointed that they build up to this battle during all three books and between the end of one chapter where the fight is about the start and the beginning of the next it’s almost over. And of course Dante and Gideon’s ladies whom they both left at home decide to come to the battle even though they cannot really assist and are just going to distract them. I hate the helpless female thinking they are rescuing the male but in all actuality they are just going to distract him and possible get him hurt or killed. Buh. The ending is pretty obvious during the series but due to the set-up at the end it doesn’t seem believable.

Favorites in order: Gideon, Dante, Mercy.

Pecans: 2.75/5

Raintree Üçlemesinin son kitabı sığınak ile bu muhteşem seriyi bitirmiş bulunuyorum..Serinin En güzel serüveni idi bence.Bir an bile elimden bırakamadım desem..
Mercy onu herkesten özellikle babasından saklamıştı.Ağabeyleri de Eve'in babasının kim olduğunu bilmiyorlardı.

I read this years ago when I was younger and I hated how Judah treated Mercy, how he used her and then how he took her even when she said no. There was no love from him, no gentleness. He had no regard for her feelings at all. I always hated that. & I hated how the daughter was portrayed as adoring her father no matter what he did. Wtf? Didn't she have any love for her mother then?

I zip-read it after all these years to see if I felt the same. And yep, I still hate how he treated her. To me, how he took her was rape and no woman should be treated like he treated her.

I hated how the author portrayed these characters as she did.
In Judah’s monologue, the author could have made it so that he at least had feelings for her, but no, all the author did was show that he was a ruthless, cold b@st@rd who purposely used and made a fool of Mercy and in the end he won and got everything he wanted. But Mercy lost her self-respect, her dignity and I can't believe that a female author would write a story like this and promote this as romance.

Is this the kind of man a woman should want? Is this the way a woman should expect to be treated?
I hated it then, years ago when I read it. And I still hate it now.

I regret having given this book a first chance, let alone a second chance.

To this day, I've never read another Beverly Barton book and I have no intention of ever changing my mind now.

Judah sama Mercy ga saling kenal pas pertama ketemu, walau langsung uhuk2 aja (jyaa). Belakangan baru pada tau identitas masing - masing. Judah pemimpinnya Ansara, dan Mercy penyembuh klan saingannya Judah, Raintree. Tapi kehadiran anak mereka berdua, Eve, malah jadi nyatuin dua pasangan cinta-benci-kejar-aku-kau-kutangkap ini.

Aslinya Judah ga jahat - jahat amat loh, yang jahat ternyata orang lain yang mau kudeta dia. Akhirnya Judah dan Mercy baikan, bahkan klan mereka berdua digabung. Walaupun endingnya sumpah maksa abis, berasa Star Wars dan perang gedenya sampe mati berdarah - darah ga ada :))

Buat Nocturne, ya so so aja ini. Emang gitu kali tipe ceritanya Nocturne, banyakan simpel kalo dibandingin ma genre PNR biasa

My favorite around the trilogy, but don't like the ending, Rainsara? the author can make better than that

Raintree: Sanctuary by Beverly Barton is part of Silhouette's "Nocturne" line, and it's the final book in the entire, horrid "Raintree" series, written by different authors. I was repulsed by the first two, and this one was worse, which I would not have thought possible. Main characters are Mercy Raintree, a Princess of the Raintree, and Judah Ansara, the Ansara Dranir (which is their ruler, I guess). The princess and the evil villain, let's call them.

Mercy has a secret: her beloved child, Eve, is the daughter of a rival Ansara, whom Mercy spent 36 hours with seven years ago. When she discovered Judah was Ansara, Mercy fled. Only Eve's nanny knows the truth about her parentage.

Judah knows the day will come when he will lead the Ansara into battle against the Raintree clan, intending to kill them all and reign supreme. His half-brother, Cael, grows impatient and wants to attack now. Judah also suspects that Cael is moving and maneuvering against him in an effort to take over as the Dranir. When Judah learns that Cael dispatched assassins to take out the Raintree royalty, including Mercy, he is incensed. Mercy is his to kill. He arrives at the edge of the Raintree sanctuary in time to save Mercy from the assassin and take her to her home base to recover. There, Judah meets Mercy's daughter, Eve, and realizes she is his child. He immediately plans to take Eve back to his people, knowing he'll have to do it over Mercy's dead body. No matter, Judah means to kill her anyway.

So this is what apparently passed for romance in...*checks publication date*...2007. 2007?! This seemed straight out of 1977, when such codswallop was popular. I'm looking at you, Rosemary Rogers, and that gawd-awful Sweet Savage Love (1974). Did we really used to think abusive, hateful, cold-hearted men who mistreated women were sexy? Or romantic? Ugh. Ugh ugh ugh.

SPOILERS and ranting!
- The misogyny in this was...I have no words. The worst was Cael, who kept "whores" (Really? The author couldn't at least have called them "concubines"?) that he beat and raped when he was bored.
- The assassin sent to kill Mercy watches her for a time, wishing he could rape her first. Um, wow.
- Judah knew who Mercy was when he first met her. He found her attractive, yes, but for him the best part of banging her was for the notch on his belt. He deflowered a Raintree Princess!
- Never mind Judah's intent; I wanted to kill Mercy. It would have been a mercy killing for her and for all of womankind. She is a Raintree Princess! She is a powerful empath! Yet when faced with Judah once more, she becomes this spineless, weak-willed twit overcome with lust who is utterly incapable of resisting his awesome manliness. Is this actually a thing? Have I missed out on one of life's great mysteries? Because I sure as hell have never been so drawn to a man, desired him so much, that I literally could not keep a thought in my head nor control myself nor prevent my vag from landing on his dick. And this was how she reacted after he informed her he planned to murder her and take their daughter.
- Speaking of their daughter, Eve was described as a precocious child. Precocious child? More like obnoxious brat. She was uncommonly powerful (of course), defiant, and she actually attacked her mother when she didn't get her way. How precious! Pardon me while I gag.
- When Mercy and Judah succumbed to their mutual lust, it was rape. He raped her. She repeatedly said no, pushed him away and tried to escape, and he ran her down, tore her clothes off, knocked her onto the ground and raped her. And this is what the author had the nerve, the gall, to peddle as romance to the unsuspecting public. You are a horrible human being, Beverly Barton. This book not only did a massive disservice to the ideal of romance, it did a massive disservice to women.
- In the aftermath of this, did Mercy use her awesome powers to remove her attacker from the face of the earth? No, because he's the father of her child, and he's so attractive, and she's fairly certain she loves him and always has. Pardon me while I gag again.
- Here is a sampling of just how odious this book was:
♦ "Quiet! Control your tongue and your thoughts." The 1600's called--they want their uppity he-man attitude back.
♦ "You may wish me dead, but you won't kill me. And I won't kill you. Not until I've fucked you again." I don't know about the rest of you, but my little heart just goes all pitter-patter when a man says that to me!

Reading this was like slogging through raw sewage. I could actually feel my face twisting with disgust. The most prevalent reaction it engendered in me was a combination of contempt and revulsion. If you're wondering why I read the entire thing, I guess I'd liken it to a train wreck. It was horrifying yet I was compelled to see it to the bitter end. Now that I finished it (Go, team me!), I am convinced I deserve an award. An Olympic-style medal for my mettle. I also need some brain bleach. This gets ZERO STARS. I was forced to give it one star because the rating system won't allow me to give ZERO STARS. I read this so I could warn you not to. Do yourself a favor and steer clear of it.

You know what else hacks me off? I set a goal to read 80 books this year, and this is the one that met my goal. Unfair! Stupid, loathsome book.

In this entry in the Raintree series, we learn that Raintree Princess Mercy was seduced years earlier and bore the child of Ansara Dranir Judah. However, she did not realize that he was Ansara until she became pregnant and only years later did she find out that he was of a royal lineage. Judah's brother Cael has been planning an attack on Sanctuary, the Raintree clan's home base, without the knowledge of the council. To thwart this plan, Judah goes there and discovers that he has fathered a mixed breed child which is forbidden to his people. Eve immediately connects with her father and he finds her fascinating with her incredible powers. Under threat of attack, the Raintree gather.

The story line is resolved... though it takes us to the last chapter... to battle of 100 bad Ansara attacking 18 Raintree... then Ansara Dranir comes and helps Raintree to battle bad Ansara to protect his mate and daughter... and finally their daughter teleports dad to save mom from bad half brother... then she changes him to Rainsara (something more than Ansara)... and most of daddy's good peoples (the bad ones just turn to dust)...

and there is peace... and alliance... and love...

Overall this was a fun glimpse in a world created by three different authors. You will want to search under Raintree to find all three books as you have three different authors. I must admit that while this are a fun read each author has much better work to choose a book from.

Three and a half stars.

Solid wrap up to the trilogy. This story mainly focuses on Mercy Raintree, guardian of the Raintree Sanctuary, and Judah Ansara, Dranir/king of the Ansara, and the child they share.

Raintree Saga

The story & its characters draws me in such that I hate to put the book down. Fast paced, excellent dialogue, humorous, & strong story.

3.5 stars. I just could not H and h vowing to kill each other. I did enjoy how the story ends but H is not faithful and I did not see how he was anything but an overprivileged jerk.
