Princess Hime has devoted her life to helping others–as a butt-kicking monster-slayer. She has one very special a song that she wrote for her sister. But when a wicked creature finds a way to turn that treasured memory into a curse, it’s up to Hime’s friends to find this cruel maestro–and set the princess free!
The first chapter of this volume was just as wild and crazy as I was hoping, with an "evil pipe organ" that attacks with cursed music! This volume also had some fun time shenanigans and giant monster fights. Not much that stood out overall, but it was enjoyable.
I’m slowly reaching the end of the Princess Resurrection volumes that I own quite frankly, I’m glad. I really struggle to care about this series; I don’t know if it’s the wildly unoriginal story, the bland fights and chapters, the repetitive and overdone dialogue/“quirks”, or the lack of any atmosphere, but this manga has not clicked for me. I think the overarching plot has potential but it’s just too spaced out with filler that adds nothing to the story. And there are parts, particularly in this volume that are almost good but then it manages to both fizzles out and ends far too abruptly! For instance, the beginning of this volume involves evil spirits and a piece of music that plays a part in Hime’s past. It delves a little into her background but nowhere near enough, the resolution occurs way too quickly, and then it just ends with almost no warning. This is a continuous problem with this manga! I wouldn’t call this series bad as it has some good ideas but there are a lot of manga out there that have similar stories but are written a lot better. ⭐️⭐️⭐️/5
It's too bad Del Rey Manga shut down. I'm not a frequent manga reader, but I've thoroughly enjoyed this series. Hopefully Kodansha, the new licensee, will eventually get around to translating and releasing the rest of it in the US - last I looked they were up to #15 in Japan. Even if I never do get to read another one, though, this was an entertaining volume to go out on.
