Detective Josie Quinn #16

The Innocent Wife

Rate this book
Candles are lit and their rich vanilla scent twists its way through the cabin. The table is set for a romantic anniversary dinner with fresh roses dropping crimson petals on crisp white linen. But the woman seated at the table is cold to the touch, and there’s blood trickling down her neck…

When Denton’s most loved TV presenter returns home to find his wife dead at the dining table, it shatters the close-knit community. Beautiful and absolutely besotted with each other, Beau and Claudia Collins were idolized for being the perfect couple. But the devastating scene Detective Josie Quinn finds in their remote hideaway has her asking what dark secrets lurk beneath the surface of this seemingly flawless marriage?

Beau is grief-stricken by the loss of his kind-hearted wife who gave so much to others as a therapist, but Josie needs to know the significance of the small wooden puzzle box found clutched in Claudia’s hand. A prop in a popular game Beau played with his viewers to test the strength of their relationships, is it a twisted calling card, or a challenge from the killer?

The broken body of one of Beau and Claudia’s assistants is found the next day, a matching little box left in the dirt beside her. It’s clear that if Beau doesn’t start telling the truth about the flaws in his marriage, those dearest to him will die.

Caught in a cat and mouse chase with disturbing revelations and a mounting body count at every turn, Josie and her team work night and day to keep Beau’s loved ones safe. What kind of calculating monster would do this? A faded newspaper article about a tragic accident is the break Josie desperately needs. But she may already be too late, an innocent child is in danger…

An absolutely gripping rollercoaster of a crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Guaranteed to have you sleeping with the lights on and shouting from the rooftops about the twists, it’s perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine.

FYI - bc I like to stir the pot - after this review I was never approved by Bookouture again 😂 Her books are the only ones I've negatively rated. I love Angela Marsons, Marnie Riches, and y'all know I was screaming about Catherine Walsh's Holiday Romance for damn near 6 months. Thankfully, I'm able to get arcs when I directly email them, but whoever runs their NetGalley account... Give me another chance !!!!!! I won't request Lisa Regan ever again I promise.

Thank you Bookouture and NetGalley for the ARC in exchange for an honest review. IYKYK, my reviews are always honest.

One sentence review: A case of "it's not you, it's me"

SYNOPSIS

A semi-famous relationship coach and psychologist is found brutally murdered in her home with a mysterious puzzle box in her hand. Game on.

MY OPINION

Ok how juicee does the synopsis sound!? Despite it having all the ingredients that make a great police procedural, this one just did not work FOR ME. And I'm not just saying that to be nice (because I'm not nice duh). I can definitely see how this works for others; I was engaged throughout and wanted to see how everything worked out. Alas, my time with Lisa Regan has come to an end as this was my second attempt at the Josie Quinn series that ended with a 2-star rating. La poo.

Now let me be super clear: just because I pop up in a series wherever I please, doesn't mean I will rate a book lower if I am confusion about the characters' backstories. I will never dock stars if I haven't read a series from the start. Moving on... this was an odd experience because on one hand, there was A LOT of rehashing, and on the other hand, there was a lot of context missing. Therefore I highly recommend you read from book #1 so you can get truly invested in the characters and understand their arcs. All I have to say is: Josie got HOES all in the same area code.

My rich homie qualms were similar to those in Watch Her Disappear. Josie and Noah were stage 5 dumbasses at times. For example, Noah asks: "He's just her boss. Why does she care so much how he acts morally or ethically?" UMmmmmmm?????????????? Idk personally I don't want to work for a serial murderer but maybe that's just me??? Also, Josie loved to interrogate Beau when he was drunk as a skunk as if my dog Nobu moonlighting as a defense attorney couldn't get that thrown out in court.

The writing quality flip flopped like a fish on land. You had rhythmic prose and then you had: "The cold she felt had little to do with the January weather." Girl stop. Also I'm still stuck on this line: "Then came a moan that loosened Josie's bowels." So did she shit herself or just a wet fart? I need answers people.

QUICK SPOILER SO SCROLL TO THE BOTTOM

Ok the scene at the end with Brooke who was a couple short of a dozen if you know what I mean, felt borderline offensive. Not only was it completely unrealistic, but her behaviour made zero sense. You need a sticky note to tell you to turn off the light but you can remember you have a whole ass "memory box" and the various spots you've hidden it in!? HUH???

Also the final twisty twist with Beau was off the charts level of Scooby Doo-ness. At one point they confront him about lying and he literally says "Sort of, I guess. Anyway, yes, I lied before." Just NBD guys!!! Mans was singing like a canary without legal representation. Seems normal that after bending over backwards and doling out lie after lie after lie you would just give it up like a Pez dispenser, but anyways.

END OF SPOILERS

Clearly, Regan's writing style and plot execution just is not pour moi. It saddens me because I am the ultimate police procedural hussy but yet I can't connect with this one 😢

PROS AND CONS

Pros: juicee premise

Cons: inconsistent writing quality, detectives going full dumbass to move the plot along, OTT/Scooby Doo ending

Another fantastic addition to the Josie Quinn series! Lisa Regan delivers time and time again! As with all her books, this one was gripping from the start. There are never dull moments in her books. She keeps me guessing and on the edge of my seat, flipping the pages and doing my own detective work along with the Denton PD. Did I mention that this is one of my favorite series?

Josie is called to the scene of a grisly murder. The victim is Claudia Collins, a therapist and television personality. Together with her husband, Beau Collins, she hosts a popular television show which focuses on relationships. Claudia and Beau are a picture-perfect couple who on the surface appear to have the perfect marriage and life. On the night she was found murdered, Claudia and Bea where gong to celebrate their 15th wedding anniversary. It was meant to be a beautiful and romantic evening which they were sharing with their viewers. Unfortunately, their perfectly orchestrated evening ended in tragedy.

As Josie, Noah and company begin to investigate, a blast from their past is also called in to help. Luke, Josie's former fiancé, and his dog are called in to help. As more people in Bea and Claudia's inner circle begin to go missing, the tension mounts and a search for a killer is underway.

Woohoo! This was a twist and secret filled book which did not disappoint! Lisa kept me guessing the entire way. The killer was playing a game and toying with Beau, but why? Plus, there are diary entries, which had me captivated and scratching my head. With all of Regan's books, the tension mounts and Josie (mainly) and Noah get into some scary situations and must catch a killer before someone else dies!

Gripping, tense and action packed. This is my go-to series, and I loved every single page! Can this be read as a stand-alone? Yes, Lisa Regan always gives enough information on characters that new readers will not feel left out. Having said that, this is such an engaging and riveting series, do yourself a favor and begin at book #1.

Thank you to Bookouture and NetGalley who provided me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All the thoughts and opinions are my own.

Lisa Regan strays from that murder and missing girl trope (whew!) and takes a unique spin on that woman in trouble because of a man trope in this cat-and-mouse game for revenge.

Beau and Claudia Collins were idolized for being the perfect couple, but like all couples, they have their dark secrets. Josie is called to the scene of Claudia's murder and races as bodies fall to discover the secrets to this perfect marriage as a game begins between Beau and a killer.

There is a reason Lisa Regan's Detective Josie Quinn's books to the series have ratings over four stars here on GRs and is a loved series. She has devoted readers who keep on reading this series; that should be enough right there!!

So if you jump in on this series at book 16 or less, you have yet to learn why it is so loved. For that reason, I suggest reading a few earlier books to appreciate the characters and see why they are loved so much. You don't need to read them, that is a lot of books, but you do need to read more than the first two because Josie starts off as one prickly character and doesn't really set a good tone for the series. By book 3, you should be hooked.

In my blog post, Penny For Our Thoughts I have suggested which books are a must-read to appreciate the characters, which ones you could skip, and what other ones you could start with.

I received a copy from the publisher

When Detective Josie Quinn was called to the murder of a woman in her home, the scene was brutal. As people began to arrive for the anniversary dinner which was to be filmed for Claudia and husband Beau's popular TV show, Josie and Lieutenant Noah Fraley began to see that this wouldn't be an easy case to solve. When a second body was found, the team saw immediately that the puzzle box found at both scenes was a crucial part of what the killer was doing. He was playing a game, and it looked like anyone close to Beau would suffer.

Working around the clock with little sleep, frustrations were mounting as another body was found. Would Josie, Noah and the team of dedicated cops find the answers before anyone else died?

The Innocent Wife is the 16th in the Detective Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan and once again she's hit the nail on the head. One of my favourite series by one of my favourite authors - she's one I read immediately. This one was a well-worked plot, with many twists and plenty of red herrings. I loved it! I'm looking forward to the next in the series already! Highly recommended.

With thanks to Bookouture via NetGalley for my digital ARC to read in exchange for an honest review.

4.5 murder game stars *now available!

I applaud Lisa Regan for keeping this series robust and interesting, this is number sixteen and it does not disappoint. She remains a go-to author for me, and I anxiously await each new adventure for Josie, Noah, and the team in Denton. As real as these characters are to me, I would not want to visit murder-filled Denton!

This time Josie is drawn into the world of tv stars, Claudia and Beau are hosts of a popular relationship show and they are about to film their anniversary dinner for their fans. However, the dinner never happens and soon the team is investigating a murder. There are personal assistants to interview, social media to pour through, and workplace jealousies to investigate. I had a hard time figuring out who was responsible for the first murder and then even more bodies turn up.

There are secrets and twists in this one and I couldn’t turn the pages fast enough to get to the resolution. There are also some mysterious diary entries that added to the storyline and Beau seemed to be at the center of everything. The killer seems to be playing a game and I was anxious for the team to solve the case before more bodies were found!

My thanks to Bookouture for the opportunity to read and review this one. It would make the perfect gift for fans of the series!

HAPPY PUBLICATION DAY!!

First of all, it seems entirely unfair that Lisa Regan has to be compared with herself and her earlier 5⭐️ books! How could anyone ever top say book 3 in this series?

No synopsis from me on this one due to spoiler risk - read the blurb 😆.

Book 16 wasn't one of my favourites but I still loved it and highly recommend it. Josie Quinn and the team are the best to follow IMO 🥰.

I'm noticing a trend of my 4 and 5 stars for Lisa Regan's J Quinn series - when the plot is about a person in Quinn's life, I'm more engrossed and fly through quicker- Regan has built incredible connections to the key characters across the books.

That's not to say this book isn't fab with new people because how could each book only be about Josie's peeps, far too unrealistic - she's already been through enough! BUT book 16 was missing one of my favourite characters.

I struggled in this one a few times: 1. at the start bc the newbies weren't likeable; 2. where the police were disclosing or allowing to be disclosed info in front of other people; and 3. where police, more than once, were questioning a witness while the witness was noticeably drunk (though they did seem to remember at the end they shouldn't do this).

⚠️ TWs: look them up online, but includes an animal is hurt in this book 👎💔 can all authors please stop letting any dogs get hurt please? I can't 😭

Thank you to Netgalley, the author and the publisher for providing an advance copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Oh, well, here we go again - just when a mostly-meh year has ended and a new year begins, it begins with yet another meh novel…

I usually like Lisa Regan's Josie-Quinn novels a lot - they’re usually very well paced, engaging and suspenseful. Josie and the entire team are interesting and everyone gets some time in the spotlight, e. g. in a recent instalment we learned a lot about Josie’s ever-angry boss. At another time Mettner, her colleague, fell in love with the press liaison, Amber, and so on.

This time around in “The Innocent Wife” (what a cheesy title!) by Lisa Regan, there’s nothing but the plain murder mystery - and that is, indeed, rather plain. And bland, and boring. For about 80% we just follow Josie and colleagues around on a wild goose chase after the killer. Sadly, that chase is neither very interesting nor is the eventual reveal much of a result of police procedure but much of it is plain old luck - and a healthy dose of deus ex machina.

Usually, these books are page turners for me and I’m always looking forward to the next instalment because I’ve come to rely on my yearly (some twice yearly!) dose of Josie Quinn.

There’s lots of police procedure here but hardly anything else. Yes, there are some far-fetched scenarios about adultery in combination with a brain-damaged person, children born out of wedlock, complicated, almost incestuous feeling affairs among the crew of a TV show, a person whom you peg immediately for a killer - or are they?

As if all that mess wasn’t bad enough in itself, even after they finally solve their case, there are lots of loose ends, many questions remain unanswered and one that is central to the entire mystery is not even addressed in any way.

The worst surprise, though: The actual book ends at a mere 89% - all that remains are 11% advertisements…

Still, this is not a bad book - just one that is seriously mediocre. I’m still looking forward to Josie Quinn no. 17!

Three out of five stars.

The Innocent Wife (Detective Josie Quinn Book 16)
(Thriller review) - 5⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

Oh my word, I love this book so much. In my opinion, this is one of the most memorable Josie Quinn novels to date. This novel by Lisa Regan is a banger, and I enjoyed every page! In all, Lisa has written 16 installments in this series, and they are all fantastic! You can read them as stand-alones, but once you begin one, you will want to read them all.

Synopsis:
There are lit candles on the table which is set for a romantic dinner. The scene includes fresh rose petals on a white linen tablecloth. It's like a beautiful fairytale. However, there is one thing about the woman seated at the table: she is cold to the touch, and her neck has a trail of blood running through it...

A cliquey community is devastated when Denton's most loved TV host finds his wife dead on their anniversary. Claudia and Beau Collins were often regarded as the picture-perfect couple. In the wake of the devastating murder scene, Detective Josie Quinn wonders what hidden clues lie beneath this seemingly blissful marriage?

The Innocent Wife is available on December 12th, just in time for Christmas.

Thank you NetGalley and Bookouture for sharing this book with me. Lisa Regan is one of my favorite writers! I'm hooked and am looking forward to book 17!

It's hard to believe that this is book 16 in this series. I've read it off and on since book 1...of course I read most of them out of order:) Like all the Joie Quinn stories, it moves fast and is loaded with plenty of plenty of secrets, lies and twists for Josie and her team to unravel. The plot itself is intense, with a race against the clock and a very, very unlikeable victim and a suspect who seems to be hiding a lot. While I did guess part of the big twist, I never saw the full truth coming until it was finally presented to us...which I really like in a good mystery story. Don't make things too simple. The Innocent Wife turned out to be yet another highly addictive and extremely engaging detective thriller sequel of a series I consider to be one of my favorites. Things have been said in other reviews about the credibility of the plot...to each his own and we can't all like the same things... but I personally don’t mind as this series is well worth the read for its entertainment value alone. If you like your detective thrillers on the fast and intense side, you have this one and 15 more before it...so happy reading.

Another enthralling Detective Jose Quinn mystery. This is the sixteenth in the series, and as I said after the fifteenth, they just keep getting better.

Claudia and Beau Collins are a popular local TV couple in Denton, PA. whose show is all about marital relations. When Claudia is found murdered the night of their fifteenth wedding anniversary party (which, of course, they were going to film), the scene is set for more murder, secrets, lies, and game playing, all to be investigated by Denton’s Josie Quinn and her team.

I really like the Josie Quinn series and typically stay up late to finish each one I read because I can’t put them down! Josie has had a difficult life but she is a strong, competent female protagonist who remains caring and upbeat despite the adversities she has experienced. She is surrounded by a supportive team including her husband Lt. Noah Fraley and other repeating characters.

If you like well written, character driven, fast paced police procedurals/thrillers, and are not familiar with author Lisa Regan, I recommend this series. I can’t wait for the next one!

The Innocent Wife can work as a standalone, but I encourage those new to this series to go back and read some of the prior ones.

Thanks to #netgalley and #bookouture for the ARC.

Ahhh Lisa Regan, you're back to your best!
I have loved some of the Josie Quinn books, but I have yet to read the entire series. This one is up there with my favourites.
You are thrown into the drama- it always follows Josie, doesn't it?! This has a plot that really intrigued me and I looked forward to reading it when I had to put it down. It has a huge 'did she or didn't she' question throughout that just fascinated me and kept me reading.
Those characters? Well, Josie Quinn doesn't need much introduction but it's safe to say that she is a fabulous character to base a story around! After 16 books, the readers know her pretty well, and I'm sure they love her as much as I do!
Fantastic.

The Innocent Wife is the sixteenth book in the Josie Quinn series by Lisa Regan. This is my favorite book in the series and that is saying something as I've loved each book! Lisa Regan does a masterful job of weaving together a mystery that will keep you guessing until the end. There are many suspects as each body is found, but it is impossible to guess right with this one!

Beau and Claudia Collins are relationship experts who have many fans and have written books, have a practice seeing patients, and have a very popular tv show. They give people advice on how to make their relationships more intimate. They believe playing games to get closer to your partner is the way to go. Everyone thinks their marriage is one to envy, but is it? Are they as happy as they seem on tv? They are celebrating their anniversary with a big party at their house and the film crew is coming to tape it for their tv show. Everyone was supposed to show up at a certain time, but everyone is running late. Why? When Beau and his assistant arrive, the door to the house flies open, and Claudia's assistant runs out screaming and crying. She arrived and found the dining table decorated beautifully, the food ready, blood everywhere, and Claudia seated in one of the chairs at the table. Unfortunately, Claudia was covered in blood and very dead. Who would do this to such a beloved figure?
Beau us absolutely devastated at the sight of his wife and all of the blood. A puzzle box is found in Claudia's hand. What's the significance of that and what's inside the box? The puzzle box is something the Collins' couple use in a game to test the strength of your relationship.

As Josie, Noah, and the Denton police do their best to discover the killer, more bodies are turning up. They are all related to Beau Collins and the tv show. Why do Claudia's missing wedding rings end up on the hand of the second victim? Why did Claudia introduce herself to Josie using her maiden name? They met about a month before her murder while Josie was Christmas shopping. Josie really liked her as she put herself in harm's way to protect Josie's god son. At every turn, Josie and the team can't make sense of any of it. Everyone seems to have an alibi and the killer seems one step ahead.

This book is fantastic and will have you racing through it to see what happens next. I can't recommend The Innocent Wife highly enough. Get this book, put time aside, and enjoy every minute! I rate this book 5 stars and I put it in my top 3 books read in 2022! I'd like to thank NetGalley and Bookouture for an advanced copy in exchange for a fair review. #TheInnocentWifeJosieQuinnBook16 #NetGalley #Bookouture #LisaRegan

Beau and Claudia Collins were a trendy couple with a popular television show. When Claudia is brutally murdered on their anniversary, Detective Josie Quinn is assigned the case. Josie quickly discovers that the Collins marriage was not all roses. Discussions with their co-workers lead Josie to believe that Beau has been lying about the state of his marriage. As Josie and her team investigate this murder, the second body is found next to a puzzle box that matches the one found at the scene of Claudia's murder. This killer is leaving clues and playing a dangerous game of cat and mouse with the police.

This is another good addition to the series. As Josie and her team question witnesses and uncover clues, I didn't lock on to a suspect. There were several people that were upset with Beau, but I didn't think any of them would kill Claudia. Everyone had secrets and some of them were very surprising. My rating: 4 Stars.

Claudia Collins has been found dead by her husband Beau. For anybody looking in they were the perfect couple, yet Claudia was murdered and the murder was a violent one. More than that, as Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Lieutenant Noah Fraley begin their investigation one of the first things they realize is that Claudia is found holding a small wooden puzzle box in her hand.

Other murders take place in quick succession and those victims also are holding a similar wooden puzzle box in their hands as well. Will Josie and Noah be able to put these puzzle pieces together in order to solve these murders?

As the husband is always considered a suspect in a case like this, Josie had a lot of questions for Beau. This case is a bit different because Claudia and Beau were marriage counselors as well as television personalities. Could their brand of marital counseling be behind Claudia’s murder? In fact, while Josie is working hard on this investigation, personal trauma from her past tries to force its way through. To further cause Josie stress, hert former fiancé Luke joins the investigation and his presence opens another window into Josie‘s past.

Sixteen books in with this amazing series by Lisa Regan! With revenge being the backdrop for this installment, with more than one viable suspect and lies at every turn, this was an intense read from beginning to end. For a book that simply cannot be put down, look no further. The twists were intriguing and I was pulled in from the very start, and the intensity never let up. Factor in a sharp personal edge, and The Innocent Wife was a compelling read.

Many thanks to Bookouture and to NetGalley for this ARC for review. This is my honest opinion.

Let's play a game ... what could go wrong when revenge is involved?
When Det. Josie Quinn, along with her husband, Lt. Noah Fraley, are called to the home of a local tv relationship doctor, Beau Collins, and his wife Claudia, a well known tv/podcaster, they find that Claudia has been violently murdered. The scene has been staged ... the game has begun. Lies, murder, revenge, and martial affairs. Of course everyone has an alibi. As the bodies start to pile up, Josie and her team race to find answers. Each body has a small wooden puzzle box in their hand. Inside the puzzle box is the next clue in the game. Can they piece the puzzle together before the next murder? It’s great to see Josie deal with some of her past nightmares with a lot of understanding and support Noah. Having Luke (blast from the past) and his now trained search & rescue dog make a return and was interesting addition.
Special shout to Bookouture and NetGalley! Thank you!

BLOG TOUR REVIEW

Review for 'The Innocent Wife' by Lisa Regan.

Read and reviewed via NetGalley for Lisa Regan, Bookouture publishers and Bookouture anonymous

Publication date 12th December 2022.

This is the fifth book I have read by this author. It is the fifteenth book in the 'Detective Josie Quinn' series. It can be read as a standalone. I have previously read 'Her Deadly Touch' which is the twelfth book in the series, 'The Drowning Girls' which is the thirteenth book in this series, 'Watch Her Disappear' which is the fourteenth book in this series and 'Local Girl Missing' which is the fifteenth book in the series. I would highly recommend them all whether read as standalones or in order as a whole series.

I was originally drawn to this book by its beautiful cover and intriguing sounding synopsis and title. I am a huge fan of Lisa and if this is half as good as 'Her Deadly Touch', 'The Drowning Girls', 'Watch Her Disappear' and 'Local Girl Missing' it is guaranteed to be a page turner. The synopsis stated that this book is 'An absolutely gripping rollercoaster of a crime thriller from an Amazon, USA Today and Wall Street Journal bestselling author. Guaranteed to have you sleeping with the lights on and shouting from the rooftops about the twists, it’s perfect for fans of Angela Marsons, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine'. I am a huge fan of Angela Marsons so am looking forward to seeing if this lives up to this statement. I must admit I was also biased due to the publisher being Bookouture. I have yet to read a book published by Bookouture that I haven't enjoyed. Hopefully this won't be the first... Watch this space! (Written before I started reading the book).

This novel consists of a prologue and 57 chapters. The chapters are short to medium in length so possible to read 'just one more chapter' before bed...OK, I know yeah right, but still just in case!

This book is based in Pensylvannia, USA 🇺🇸

This book is written in third person perspective and the main protagonists are Detective Josie Quinn. The benefits of third person perspective are that it let's you see the bigger picture of what's going on and you get to know more characters more, what they are thinking and what they are doing. It feels like you get to see the whole picture and not miss out in anything.

Well, Well, Well Lisa you have done it again!!! Another absolute mind blowing page turner!!!

This book is extremely well written with vivid descriptions that captivates the readers attention and places them right in the centre of the action. The cover and synopsis suited the storyline perfectly. Lisa writes in such engrossing and engaging way that I become completely absorbed in the storyline.

As soon as I started reading this book I fell straight back into the storyline from 'the end of 'Local Girl Missing' as of I had just finished it. I have read well over 100 books since then which just goes to show how much of an affect on me and how memorable Lisa's books are.

The storyline was very fast paced, absolutely nerve-racking and heart racing and kept me consistently on the edge of my seat. I was biting my nails and turning the pages until I finished it in one sitting. This book is ram packed with drama, murder, tension, red herrings, suspense, action, romance, adultery, secrets and I could go on. This book has everything and more that you want in a crime thriller. It is unique and realistic as well as being fast paced. There was constantly something happening and it left me questioning myself throughout the book.I believe this was one of the most fast paced and action packed books in this series so far especially considering who was involved and how much was going on. It was sooo tense throughout the book and my heart was absolutely pounding, I don't think there's much left of my nails now either lol!!! The storyline is also very thought provoking and just goes to show that nothing is ever as it seems. You see photos, videos and programmes about these perfect couples and they can make you jealous or worried about your own relationships but some things are never as they seem and this book is a perfect example of this Lisa and Josie what the hell are you doing to me!!! I was absolutely mind blown by one of the twists in particular and would never have seen that one coming in a million years!! I also never did guess who was involved so a huge congratulations Lisa!!! It is getting harder and harder to surprise me but you had me hook, line and sinker!!! I cannot wait to get my hands on all previous and future books of yours!!!

Although this is the sixteenth book in the series I had absolutely no problems reading it without the others. Any details or events that have previously happened are mentioned in just the right amount of detail to let a new reader know what has happened and yet not too much to bore a previous reader.

Clear your schedules before picking this up as you will not be able to put it down!!!

I absolutely loved meeting all the characters again and it really felt like I was meeting up with old friends I got to know them so well in the last book! I absolutely love Josie's down to earth personality. Josie has suffered a horrific loss and instead of being the type or person to let it either overwhelm her or the type who completely gets on with life and forgets she is in the middle. Not only is Josie a strong female lead but Gretchen is also a fantastic female model and I love the bond between the two women. They make an absolutely fantastic team and the dynamic between not only Josie and Gretchen is spot on but also with them and Noah, Mettner, Amber and Chief Chitwood. I was pleased that we have seen a completely different side to Chief Chitwood since 'Watch Her Disappear' and, although I liked him anyway, it has definitely made me feel "closer" to him and I'm looking forward to seeing what he is going to do now!!! I absolutely love watching Noah and Josie's relationship continue to develop since their not so romantic honeymoon. They both deserve to be happy and make a perfect couple. I was intrigued by all the new characters we meet in this book and it was hard to know who to trust. Every single character in this book "played their parts" perfectly to make an absolutely fantastic and memorable team who I love meeting every time I pick up one of Lisa's books.

Congratulations Lisa Regan on yet ANOTHER absolutely fantastic action packed book and this is why your in my top 10 crime author list and why this series is in my top 5 list!! Looking forward to the next episode in this amazing series 🥂

Overall a heart racing, page turning, addictive and unputdownable fast paced crime thriller that will keep you on the edge of your seat.

Genres covered in this book include Crime Fiction, Police Procedural, Organised Crime, Noir Crime, Serial Killers, Mystery and Crime Thriller amongst others.

I would recommend this book to the fans of the above as well as fans of Angela Marsons, Carol Wyer, P.J Tracy, Robert Dugoni and Rachel Caine and any fans of nail biting, edge of your seat psychological crime thrillers.

394 pages

This book is just £2.99 to purchase on kindle and £8.99 in paperback via Amazon which I think is an absolute bargain for this book!!!

Rated 5 /5 (I LOVED it ) on Goodreads, Instagram, Amazon UK and Amazon US and on over 30 Facebook pages plus my blog on Facebook.

Claudia and Beau are a couple of love gurus that have their own show and books out. They have made the wrong person mad with their secrets and lies and Claudia winds up murdered.
Detective Josie Quinn investigates this case with the help of her husband Noah and ex-fiancé Luke. This is the 16th book in the series and was a very suspenseful read. This book will be released December 12th. Thanks NetGalley and Bookouture for this ARC!

I have to say I love this series and as soon as I got approved for this on #Netgalley I bumped it to the top as I couldn't wait to see what happens next to Detective Josie Quinn.

This book is one fast paced, action packed, shocking thriller.

Beau and Claudia Collins are a beautiful, successful power couple that seem to have it all. It is time to celebrate their 15 year wedding anniversary. Only something goes terrible wrong and one of them ends up dead. Everybody has secrets so what is this couple hiding? Slowly lie, after lie gets revealed until you see who Beau and Claudia really are.

The killer is playing a game and if you get the answer wrong another person dies. Yikes, no pressure.

Whenever I get my hands on a new Josie Quinn book, I immediately dive in. This has quickly become one of my favorite series! I love catching up with the crew and seeing what the new case is. This case was perplexing and full of twists. I was disappointed that the supporting characters were missing in this one- they were on the peripheral and there was very little interaction. One of the standouts in this series is the character development and I missed that in this installment. Some of the characters weren't even mentioned, which made me sad because I wanted an update on them! Overall though, a great police procedural featuring one of my favorite detectives.

The Innocent Wife by Lisa Regan is the 16th in the Detective Josie Quinn series.

First, let me thank NetGalley, the publisher Bookouture, and of course the author, for providing me with a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All opinions are my own.

Series Background:    (Warning – May contain spoilers from previous books)
Detective Josie Quinn has had a rough life,  and she still grieves the loss of her beloved grandmother, who was the only one she could rely on. As a baby, Josie had been kidnapped, and passed off as another woman's child.  Recently she has found her real parents, as well as her twin sister - news reporter Trinity Payne,  and her brother Patrick.   She works with the Denton Police Department, and her team consists of Detective Noah Fraley (her husband), Detective Gretchen Palmer, and Detective Finn Mettner (who is dating Press Secretary Amber Watts).  Their boss is Chief Bob Chitwood.

My Synopsis:    (No major reveals, but if concerned, skip to My Opinions)
It's the 15th Wedding Anniversary for Claudia and Beau Collins.  They are relationship guru's with their own television show, podcast, and book.  Apparently the perfect couple.

But on this day, Claudia ends up alone at the romantically set table, dead.  Her husband was late, as were both of their personal assistants and the crew that was to film their anniversary dinner.  Her wedding rings are missing, and a puzzle box is in her hand.

The next day, Claudia's assistant, Eve, is found dead, another puzzle box left with her.

Josie and the team are perplexed, trying to figure out the clues that the killer is leaving behind.  They are also confused as to why Beau seems to be lying to them every time they turn around.  Yes, he seems grief-stricken,  but is there more to his story that he lets on?

The killer seems to be playing with them, and in particular, with Beau.  They are going to have to figure things out fast, because the killer is promising more deaths if Beau doesn't play his game.

My Opinions:
First, just a reminder that you really need to read these in order, and although this could be read as a stand-alone, the characters deserve to have their back-stories read.

Book 16....and still fresh!

Some of the twists in this one I had anticipated, but definitely not all of them.  There seemed to be a lot going on, and you had to pay attention to the characters, but the overall plot was good.

I'm not sure why, but this book seemed a little long....although I can't see anywhere that could be cut.  There was a lot of action, and it moved fast, but....I'm just not sure why it was dragging.

Still looking forward to the next in the series!

If y’all have read along with my blog or my reviews here for a hot minute, you know I love love love Lisa Regan’s Josie Quinn books. (You can see all the posts where I run my mouth about Josie here.) That trend continues with The Innocent Wife, the sixteenth in the series.

Beau and Claudia Collins are well-known in Denton as the marriage advice gurus. They’ve got a popular TV show, they run a counseling practice, they’ve written books, and the face they present to the public is that of an adoring couple. Beau arrives home expecting that he and his wife will be celebrating their anniversary for the camera and for their adoring fans. Instead, he finds Claudia dead, the murder scene artfully staged, a puzzle box like the one Beau uses with clients in her hand.

Josie, Noah, and the team have their hands full with this one! The killer always seems to be one jump ahead, anticipating their efforts to trap him (or her?). The body count is rising, and everything they think of to pin down the killer, he easily sidesteps. That contributes significantly to the tension in the story.

Every story gives us a little insight into Josie’s past. In this one, we get to meet Luke, her ex. He and his dog are able to help with the investigation, and even though Josie is a little uncomfortable with it, she knows his skills are needed. I’m interested to find out if we see more of Luke in future books.

As with all of Regan’s books, there are suspects aplenty. Beau and Claudia’s marriage wasn’t as picture-perfect as the image they presented, and Beau wasn’t exactly a faithful husband. (Kind of makes you wonder why he wasn’t the one who ended up dead, with Claudia the prime suspect!) Were the murders motivated by jealousy? Greed? Trying to keep a secret safe? Regan does a fantastic job of keepingi the reader guessing and then unraveling the knot she’s created to reveal the killer’s identity and motive.

My one gripe is with the police questioning Beau when he was obviously drunk as Cooter Brown. In a former life, I was a prosecutor. If I’d gone to court with the testimony of a witness who may or may not have had full command of his mental faculties, the defense would have had a field day with it. Josie and Noah are experienced enough that they should know better. So, half a star off for that. Still four and a half, and that rounds up to five!

All in all, The Innocent Wife is another gripping suspense tale from the pen of Lisa Regan, and she remains firmly on my list of must-read authors. Go back to the start of the series and get to know Josie. You’ll be glad you did!

I absolutely loved this book! Another amazing story full of twists and turns that keep the reader guessing until the last page. I think my favorite part of these stories though, are the moments between Josie and Noah. I think this book really showed the depth of their relationship and connection. While investigating several murders and trying to figure out who done it, Noah is Josie's rock.

This story started with the murder of a woman who is a local celebrity and marriage counselor. Her husband is distraught. However, it doesn't end there and another woman who is connected to the husband is also murdered. With each crime, the suspect leaves behind a clue and a message, and the investigators have to figure it out before someone else is killed. When the chief hires Josie's ex-fiance Luke as a K-9 consultant, things are a bit awkward, but I was happy to see him return and get a bit of redemption. He played a pretty big role in this story and I loved it. I hope we see more of him in upcoming books. Anyway, this was a fast paced, well written and easy to follow story that I read in one sitting and I really didn't know the who, what,or why until the reveal. I say this with every book, but I think this might be my favorite! If you're a fan of this series, you will not be disappointed.

I had to abandon my Sunday to do list to finish this one - so many layers and quite a few players in this case, and the quality of the writing and consistency of characters was the same as the previous 15.

Thanks to Netgalley for the free copy in exchange for an honest review. I pre-ordered also but cannot
resist reading as soon as I get my hands on the newest book in the series!

4.5 stars
The Innocent Wife is the 16th book in the excellent Detective Josie Quinn series. I have read several of the prior books in this series, but this one also works well as a standalone. This latest case features the murder of Dr. Claudia Collins, a television relationship expert. Her co-star and husband, Beau, appears to be sincerely grieving, but soon becomes one of the prime suspects. Additional murders occur that have a connection to Claudia's death and the case gets more and more complex. Everyone on Josie's team must work together to find a clever, ruthless killer, and it's fun to see how the case unfolds.

Complicating things for Josie, whose husband works for the same police force, is the fact that her ex-fiance is hired as a consultant to do tracking work along with his dog. I was worried, but I was happy with the way that situation was handled. This book is very exciting and I loved the unexpected developments in the plot. This book is another winner in this well-written series.

I received an advance copy of this ebook from NetGalley, through the courtesy of Bookouture. My review is voluntary and unbiased.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review. It seems I have a penchant for picking up books that fall in the latter part of a series. The blurb for The Innocent Wife intrigued me and I was stoked to receive a copy for review purposes. Now at the time of submitting my request, I didn’t realise it was part of a series - much less the sixteenth book. Fortunately, I encountered no issues in following the story. After my experience with The Innocent Wife, I have a strong desire to read the previous books. In The Innocent Wife, Regan delivered a page turning edge of your seat read which keeps the reader guessing to the very end.

In the Innocent Wife introduces Claudia and Beau Collins. Claudia and Beau are ‘relationship experts’ who became famous after their book became a number one bestseller. Because of the fame, they now have their own television show and podcast. Things appear to be going great for this celebrity couple until someone murdered Claudia. The question on everyone lips centered around who would want to murder such a lovely lady. The thing that made the case intriguing was the calling card the murderer left behind, a puzzle box.

Detective Josie Quinn and her husband Lieutenant Noah Fraley begin their investigation into murder and the significance of the puzzle box other murders occurred. The victims of these murders bore a connection to Claudia, and similar puzzle boxes were also found near the bodies.

As one goes deep into the story, one cannot help but wonder at the motive for the murders. Did it involve a disgruntled client, a jealous husband or did it have anything to do with the victims’ past? Throughout the investigation, events occurred which acted as a trigger for past trauma in Josie’s life. At this point, her vulnerabilities came to light. Also, her ex-fiancé assisting with the investigation provided insight into another aspect of her past.

The Innocent Wife was a thrilling read from start to finish. Not an easy book to put down. There were so many questions and the need for answers kept the reader glued to the pages. With the presence of many suspects, lies told and plot twists, figuring out the identity of the murderer provided a challenge. One thing was for sure: revenge fueled the villain’s actions.

The story ended in a shocking but satisfying fashion. The fact that even after the story ended, I kept going over the events in my head showed how much of an impact it had on me. I truly enjoyed my introduction to the author’s work and look forward to reading more of her books. This review was originally posted on Totally Addicted to Reading

"A Riddle wrapped inside a mystery inside an enigma"

You would not believe just how obsessed I am with this series!.. the notification lands in my inbox.. you have received a new ARC by Lisa Regan..
'Goodbye family, mumma is gonna be MIA for a while'... opens kindle.. 'well hello my old friend Josie Quinn'
I literally stop everything until I have turned the last page, the world is paused and peaceful for just a while.. just me and Denton PD.

The book starts off with Josie being called out to investigate the death of a local TV personality, marriage guidance counsellor Claudia Collins. Found murdered in her home with a wooden puzzle 'gift' box in her hand. Her husband Beau appears devastated by what's happened but as the case unfolds more and more secrets are unearthed, secrets he's been hiding from everyone (he's one sly guy!)

Within 24 hours another victim is found, this time Claudia's assistant Eve. This gets the ball rolling for Josie's team to start digging deeper into who is killing and why.

It soon becomes evident that whoever is killing these people is intent on ruining Beau's life as he knows it, making him face up to the untold lies he spouted for years.. and still doing so.

As always I love the team dynamics in the Detective Josie Quinn series and LOVED the reappearance of Luke and Blue, it really brought another complexity into the story (please have him stick around 🙏)

Like Book #15, this installment focused more on the actual plot and storyline than on the characters which is obviously the direction Lisa Regan is now taking this series and whilst it doesn't take anything at all away from the brilliance of this series I do strangely miss the character development from the earlier books.

If you are after unlimited intrigue, suspense and want to be guessing every step of the way then this is the book you need to be holding in your hands, actually scrap that... this is the SERIES you need to be holding in your hands. If you haven't read the whole series WHY THE HELL NOT???

The hugest thanks to netgalley and Bookouture for the ARC.
