When the sudden illness of her father-in-law pulls Victoria Sedgewick away from London, she finds herself at the gloomy Yorkshire estate of her late husband’s family. There she discovers that her relations are in danger from a bitter darkness that threatens to engulf them all.
With the help of Branwell Keats, Victoria investigates a plot as dramatic and haunting as the isolated landscape...
Blythe Baker is a thirty-something bottle redhead from the South Central part of the country. When she’s not slinging words and creating new worlds and characters, she’s acting as chauffeur to her children and head groomer to her household of beloved pets.
Blythe enjoys long walks with her dog on sweaty days, grubbing in her flower garden, cooking, and ruthlessly de-cluttering her overcrowded home. She also likes binge-watching mystery shows on TV and burying herself in books about murder.
I’m never quite sure what to expect from a “Blythe Baker” work, since it is the work of not one but several wordsmiths.
However, whoever composed this work, or whoever supervised the final job got it right.
Limited to less than 140 pages, these books by committee can, I find, end disastrously as things suddenly are thrown together in an attempt at a denouement.
Perhaps because it’s a “country house” mystery with a limited cast of characters, but this “Blythe” stays on track, unlike book 3 in this series, and produces for us a very pleasant read.
I seldom give 5 stars. I did here because I completely recommend this volume.
Don't get me wrong...I'm going to read the next in the series when it comes out. I had a bit of trouble with this one however. I like how the relationship is growing between Victoria and Branwell. I just feel like the "bad guys" have all been the same character in each book and I don't understand how she's been able to solve all of these mysteries by asking a couple of questions of her suspects, guessing based on her intuition, and then having it turn out to be correct.

I enjoyed this fourth book in the Victoria Sedgwick Mysteries. The series arc is particularly intriguing as we follow Victoria and hope she is able to make a go of her plans. Certain friends become closer, others are not to be trusted.
I was shocked to know I'd caught up to the series and have to wait for the next book. Worth waiting for.
I am not sure why I read this series. I don’t find the characters particularly interesting or likable. The mystery is usually fairly obvious. I think the big mystery is why I continue
Well I’m heading into book number 5 of this series. A little surprised at how much I am enjoying it. These are fun reads that have kept my attention and keep me coming back for more.
Death Beneath A Troubled Roof brings Miss Victoria straight into the grip of her deceased husband's family. Her intuitive skills again put to the test.
