The most comprehensive beautiful Medicine book ever!
Also in my Indian med school,it was like a status symbol!Lol
Like if you didn't read from Harrison, you were just a lazy lower class student who didn't care about her education!
Then there were Harrison fanatics too,who would insist on reading everything from Harrison, kinda annoying cheer girls/fangirls haha
But this book is a Bible of Medicine, also WWF World heavyweight champion in the world of books :-)
2 volumes of this book are now about 10 lbs in weight! The book makes a good exercise as you read it!!
It is very well organized in thousands of articles on all diseases you can ever imagine, also system reviews and latest developments in the field add so much to it!
We read this book during undergraduate studies and think we're big deals haha and when we see MD postgrad students reading the same damn book during our contact with them in internship,we feel like fools! That basically sums it up!
I had a list of topics as all of us do,topics to be read from Harrison and that made things easier for me in UG.In the end,I ended up reading over 80% of my course from the book!It was like a bad addiction and swept me away!
The 2650 pages long book has thousands of images, charts etc and they help you score big in univ exams for sure. This is one of those books that make you feel good about yourself and impress your non medical friends and relatives like no1 else (as they see you studying from such a big book, you look big deal to them!Pet yourself bigshot!Haha)
The best way to study it would be,reading it topic/disease wise,ALWAYS mark/highlight whatever you read from this book or else you will be amazed every time you read from it,you will find that topic NEW!!And make summery of all the topics you read from this book--> write it down on a post it sticky note and stick it on the page of that book!
Thank You Harrison!
5 Stars :-)

It's so essential for any one who wants to become a doctor.
It has simple writing that anyone with even a little knowledge of English can completely understand it.

So good.

I haven't read all of internal medicine from it, yet. But I hope I can till this summer.

Editor Fauci includes van der Meer and Bleijenberg's egregiously inaccurate chapter on ME ("CFS"). It is no better than that in earlier editions by Fauci colleague Straus.

The article paints ME as having proven psychological components and relatively unproven organic components. Nothing could be further from the truth.

For example, they claim that "a direct microbial causation is unproven and unlikely." And that CBT and GET are the only proven treatments while acyclovir and many others have been proven ineffective.

And so on. I give Harrison's one star because such misrepresentations by Drs. van der Meer and Bleijenberg have caused a tremendous amount of iatrogenic morbidity in ME patients.

I am very eager to give Harrison's five-stars, because in most other respects, it really deserves it. I have learned a lot from it. Please substitute an accurate chapter on ME and I would be delighted to give it five-stars and evangelize for Harrison's. The essential documents on ME (with more than enough information to fill a chapter in Harrison's) are:

- the 2003 Canadian ME/CFS Consensus Criteria
http://www.cfids-cab.org/MESA/ccpccd.pdf

- the 2010 validated research version of the above CCC
http://niceguidelines.files.wordpress...

- the 2011 International ME Criteria
http://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10...

Please contact me if you wish further information or if you wish to find an author who will draft an accurate chapter for you free of charge. Thank you.

Another gold-standard, this monster weighs in at about 4.5 kg or so (9 or 10 pounds, if you want to be a normal person instead of a med student). I know for a fact I'll be looking stuff up in this guy long after I've graduated. Unlike most textbooks (but exactly like all the thickest medical ones), Harrison's is really a series of smaller articles, arranged in chapter form. A really, REALLY long series. Any medical problem you can think of is here, in more detail than your own health-care practitioner is likely to need, in order to take care of you.

A must-have for medical students. No I haven't read the whole thing (though I know one guy, a surgical resident no less, who claims to have read it through 3 times) but I still use it, even with my uptodate subscription =)
