Santa’s Broken Toy

Rate this book
Mary has had enough. Enough of the comments, the looks, the eggnog. Enough of the pity she knows she’ll see on everyone’s faces over the loss of her husband two years ago. If no one else can move on, how can she?

This Christmas, Mary is getting away from all of that. For two weeks, her only company will be herself, a pile of smutty romance books, and her army of buzzy, rechargeable friends, out in a quiet log cabin.

But when an unexpected snowstorm closes down the roads, a handsome biker who’d caught her eye in town shows up at her door, sparking feelings that would definitely land her on the naughty list.

Santa doesn’t always show up in a sleigh. Tonight, he pulled up on a motorcycle, with a question Mary never expected:

Will you be Santa’s little toy?

Santa’s Broken Toy is a spicy romance about loss, lust, and finding healing in the most unexpected places. This book contains explicit content and graphic descriptions that are best for a mature audience. 18+ readers recommended.

“Let’s play, little toy. Let’s make a fucking mess.”

Hallelujah! An older couple romance!

Each year older I get, I seem to lose an equal number of viable eggs and fucks left to give.

There was more emotional depth and healing (and graphic sex) in this Christmas novella than most full-size novels.

She’s 40
He’s 55
Filthy fun, toys
Lite bdsm
Primal and praise kink
Prostate/anal play
Nicknames
Kinky snow cone
HFN

Mary is taking two weeks for herself at a cabin in the woods, when a stranger knocks on the door.

I’ve seen plenty of horror movies that start just like this.

I’ve also seen plenty of porn that starts like this.

There was lots of play on words with her being called Mary, and him saying their play was a ‘holy experience’ and ending with her new beginning (rebirth). Not to mention, he sells toys to good girls and boys, including special cookies.

It felt like every possible kink trope was thrown into this small book. I cringed at her calling him “Santa” and him calling her his “little toy.” All of that cheapened the depth of emotion and felt counterintuitive to the authentic grieving and healing she was going through. Still, smokin hot and had some really deep emotional moments for what I thought was going to be a smutty little story!

*4.5* Rounding up because ‘tis the season of giving!

🎄Thanks for reading this one with me, Isabella!🎄

Thank you Oona Grace and Book Funnel for the gifted ARC, and to KatieandBreyPA for always connecting me with great indie authors!

SANTA'S BROKEN TOY by Oona Grace is a book I read because I challenged myself this year to read new kinds of books. Being new to Bookstagram, I'd never before heard of "smut", and quickly came to learn what a popular genre it is! I wasn't sure if I would like it, until I realized I just had to pick the right book.

This book. SANTA'S BROKEN TOY. A spicy romance that utilizes themes I had no idea would appeal to me, such as age difference and later in life characters, and even a biker Santa love interest. Hey, what can I say? I've always liked white beards and Harleys!

I think what matters more than any of that is that for me, it's realistic and the writing is there. Considering the characters don't do anything besides sex for most of the book, Grace still developes them perfectly. Like I really care about them both by the end of it all. And also, it's beautiful and yes, very hot.

This book is made for me, being nearly 50 I read lots of books with the main characters with young defined bodies but when you get older your head doesn’t change but your bodies do, it’s a book with plenty of spice but from Mary’s point of view the insecurities of being older are there but it didn’t hold her back, being older doesn’t mean that that you can’t have fun, and does Mary have fun!
After a traumatic event in Mary’s life, she decides to spend Christmas alone however she answers the door and Santa appears with presents galore.
I loved Samson as a character and everything about him warts and all. The spice is just right and I really wanted Mary to come alive, this is definitely a page turner book, I wanted that ending that left me happy but I still want more . I absolutely loved it, the writing, the story. Perfect

“Santa’s Broken Toy is a spicy romance about loss, lust, and finding healing in the most unexpected places. This book contains explicit content and graphic descriptions that are best for a mature audience. 18+ readers recommended.”

When I picked up this book, I knew it would be a spicy holiday romance, but what I didn’t expect was how hot it made me feel. As a more, umm, mature woman, I have a hard time connecting with a lot of spicy books. Not because I’m not into it, but because I don’t see the main female character as relatable. I’m no longer in my twenties, ok…or thirties; I can’t connect with them. Mary is 40. Um, what?! Hell, yes! Not only that, she is written in such a way that she felt like a close friend telling me a juicy story, or I could see myself acting similarly.

Mary decides she needs a break away from everything. An escape from the whispers and unsolicited advice of those around her about how she is handling the grief and trauma of dealing with the sudden death of her husband. After two years, she decides it's time to live again, but is it possible without feeling the guilt of being happy again without Will?

What's more perfect than a log cabin in the woods, a crate full of booze, and some smutty books? Santa, of course! A chance encounter with a local bad boy, with an uncanny resemblance to Mr. Christmas himself, leads her down a path of exquisite sexual reawaking and the release she has been longing for.

Thank you to Oona Grace, who gave me a copy of this book in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Holy Jingle Bells. This book has officially invited me back onto the romance novel train. Not only is Mary an older woman (just a few years older than myself), but she is incredibly relatable. She has stretch marks and gravity has had an effect on her body. There was just something so incredibly refreshing and realistic about reading about an older woman that I am so happy with. No offence to the novels that feature 20-somethings, but sometimes its hard to put yourself back into the pre-kids, don’t-pee-when-you-sneeze mindset. This entire story is literally like sitting with your girlfriend over a few glasses (bottles) of wine and hearing about her wild vacation.

Meeting Samson sounds like a Christmas wish come true. He’s older, wiser and knows how to deliver. Don’t get your tinsel in a twist, there is a lot of spicy scenes but there is also an unravelling of two very complicated people opening up and becoming vulnerable with each other.

I could not put this down. I absolutely had to finish it in one sitting. 5 Stars (I was given an ebook in exchange for an honest review. Thank you to Oona Grace for this book!)

Trigger warnings: loss of loved ones, grief, death and sexual scenes (a complete sensitivity warning is included at the beginning of the book)

Y’all Santa is naughty!!!

First of all everything about this is amazing! I loved that the characters were older and so beautifully portrayed. Their flaws, pasts, and insecurities were all laid bare and it allowed for growth.

Mary had lost her husband at a tragically early age and she finds herself struggling to find a new normal. Samson is still trying to deal with the ghosts of his past but he had taken the steps he needed to, to make his life bearable for him.

As soulful a connection as these two have their chemistry is HOT!!! There is so spice between Mary and Samson it will set your kindle on fire. All I can say is where we live we don’t really have snow and I will never be able to look at it the same again (in the best possible way 🥵).

Overall this is a sweet and spicy story perfect to read this winter season!! The writing is top notch, the characters are fantastic, and the spice in this book will have you fanning yourself.

This is an emotionally stoked, sexually fused powderkeg of a Christmas story.

Oona Grace has created these characters that are just brilliant. They are so alive, so relatable and honestly, hot as hell. Her writing style is addictive. It's hard to believe that this is her first book. She is a true talent. I look forward to future books.

To be honest, I don't read a lot of "smut". When a book is more sex than not, it's usually boring.
I loved every second of this book. The sexual power, the way the characters evolved together, the begging, teasing, playing and the healing was breathtaking. Who would ever think a spanking could evoke such emotion? I mean in the characters and myself! I personally laughed, cried and fanned myself through the whole book.

There's a lot of sex, a lot of triggers, this is a very emotional story. I loved the end and this book left me feeling more alive, positive but most of all I'm happy. Nothing is better than a book that makes you feel better for having read it.

I received this ARC from the author. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

If you like romance novels- read this! It is spicy and sexy and has a great story with thoroughly interesting characters. The main character Mary is very relatable and Samson is so hot. The writing is top notch! I truly didn’t want the story to end. I look forward to not only re-reading this but also reading anything else Oona Grace writes.

Santa's Broken Toy, made my top 5 of the year!! This spicy story is about a broken woman. That so many of us can relate to in many ways. Most tasteful spicy 🌶 I have read to date. Samson is a EVERY woman dream. Not talking about how good he looks either. His gentleness and understanding that he may have not exactly of had in his younger years. Just goes to show you no woman is safe with her " self love". You never know who will show up at your door. From one sassy sister to another I loved MARY!

I was lucky enough to receive an ARC of this book from the author for review, and I honestly didn't know what to expect from it. The concept sounded interesting, but I don't typically read smut/spicy romance, and in real life I'm not into the tattooed biker/much older man type. But the character of Mary, a 40 year old woman still reeling from the sudden death of her husband, Will, two years ago, sounded highly relatable so I wanted to give this a fair shake. I'm so glad I did. Whatever I was expecting from a Santa kink smut fest, it was not to get gut punched in the feels and presented with an actual storyline for both characters, and real emotions. Yes, there were a few things that made me cringe a little with the sexy terminology (milking? 😬), and you definitely have to suspend belief that a woman staying in an isolated cabin in the woods is just going to open her front door and let a strange, hulking man inside. But those few minor things aside, I greatly enjoyed Mary's quick wit, and Samson's soft heart beneath his gruff exterior. I also loved that Mary was a middle aged woman, with concerns about her aging body's appearance, because who can't relate to that? While not a young widow myself, someone very close to me is, so this story also hit close to home for me and made me want the same things for her in the future. I love how the ending was vague enough to set us up for possible future stories in this universe, and if that was the intention, sign me up! I really don't often give 5 star reviews, and I did grapple with this one, but ultimately decided on 5 because of how much it resonated with me on a deeply personal level.

Don’t pretend like this is some Hallmark Christmas movie when it’s clearly slutty Santa porn.

Honestly, that book quote says it all. The Santa kink got old fast. But it’s also a short novela and I didn’t mind him calling her his toy. It was just not my thing. I do absolutely love that Mary and Samson were older. Old people can (and should) have hot sex too.

A delightfully spicy, entertaining, and heartfelt story of a widow re-discovering herself after loss. The main character, Mary, was relatable on so many levels, and I truly felt for her. It was a lovely combination of sex and character development, and I look forward to future novels written by Oona Grace.

***

Are you a fan of Amish Romance? Do you love a slow-burn romance, where passion is deferred until the final page, where the couple share one, achingly-sweet, soul-shattering kiss?

THIS IS NOT THE BOOK FOR YOU.

Readers of Karen Kingsbury, Francine Rivers, and Beverley Lewis, beware.

This book quickly gets hot, heavy, and more than a little dirty.

Full Disclosure - I'm somewhere in the middle. I loathe a chaste read, but I still need a good, solid, (preferably monogamous) happily ever after.

Honestly, not only did I not know that Age-Gap-Biker-Santa-Kink was a thing, I may have had to Google a few of the terms on the Sensitivity Warning page.

I can't decide whether to clutch my pearls or do a proper deep-dive.

This book defies categorization. Is it full-on porn? Yes. Does it also, realistically, delve into deep conversations on grief, shame, and spousal loss? Also, yes. Were both stunningly well-portrayed? Also, also yes.

My only criticism (and this is super-niche, so I don't even think it really counts): As someone dealing with her fair share of "in sickness and in health, as long as we both shall live", Mary's inner monologue cut close to home, and, I'll be honest, it was a bit hard to pendulum swing from heartsick to horny.

In all other aspects, I 100% look forward to more from this author.

8/10

After Mary's husband passed away from sudden Cardiac Sarcoma over two years ago, she decides that she's had enough of being seen as a delicate widow. Tired of people's pitying looks and hasslings over whether she is doing okay or not, she writes off the idea of spending the festive season with her friends and family in Chicago.

Mary drives to a cabin owned by her late husband that's four hours away and is all the way in Michigan, where she plans to spend a full two weeks refusing to feel sorry for herself, living off booze and edibles while indulging in her smutty books with a plathora of her mechanical helpers.

But her plans change when an unexpected snowstorm arrives and a sexy silver-fox biker experiences problems with his bike and ends up knocking on her door... 😝

Samson sees her pain immediately, but can Mary heal enough to let him into her life?

My thoughts:
WOW. I started this novella this morning and have already finished it!!! It was fast paced and so incredibly sweet. I loved that Mary is a 40 year old suffering from grief and we go in this healing journey with her, where she learns that living a good life doesn't mean she's betraying her late husband🖤 I love that Samson also has a dark past and his experience helped him show Mary that there is more to live for. And, Oh. My. God. The spice!!! There was spice ontop of spice on top of spice and it was absolutely fantastic 🥵

Santa’s Broken Toy is a spicy age gap with a sexy biker Santa! 🔥 A well written story with loss, love, and healing from your past where it’s least expected. This age gap doesn’t have the average young h. Mary is 40 and Samson(Santa) is 55. I really enjoyed them both being older.

There is so much spice packed in this short book. Honestly who wouldn’t want to be snowed in with a hot biker Santa while in the middle of nowhere?!

I knew this book was going to be a spicy holiday romance but what I wasn’t expecting was how hot it would be. And also how easy it would be to connect to the characters. Most age gaps have a young FMC, which can be hard to connect with. Not this one, FMC is 40 and MMC is 55.

It’s been awhile since I book has hit me like this. Both in the feels and with the hotness🥵🥵🥵 5/5 stars and spice!!

Go grab this spicy holiday read on Nov 23, you won’t regret it!!

I think I just fell in love with Christmas !!! This is so totally not your average hallmark Christmas story. This story started of great and only got better ! As someone who typically does not read “romance” or much “smut” I have to say I may have to rethink my position . This book was the exact opposite of all the reasons I avoid the genre. The author had a clear knowledge of kink, values consent , and above all else , all though the sex was absolutely wild ! It wasn’t poorly written. I’ve had title where even a small sex scene made me cringe for days after lol, I’m face I cringe now thinking about it lol. To add to the spice this book also explores vulnerability and coming to terms with loss. I also love the fact that using sex , pain, pleasure etc as a cathartic release was explored. As someone in the kink community there is a lot of stigma around BDSM as a lifestyle and as a bedroom activity. I think seeing realistic play do to say was breath of fresh air ! This Santa could totally visit me any day!!!! Thank you so much for such a great title!!!!! I cannot wait to see what the future holds for this writer !

Mary’s sick of people pitying her, so she’s decided to pack up all the smutty books and sex toys she has and head to her deceased husband’s cabin. What she wanted was a couple weeks alone, but then Samson knocks on her door. He needs tools to fix his motorcycle and when he first says his name, she thinks it’s Santa. This turns into a Christmas/Santa fantasy weekend
.
This was my first smut book and any others I read will have a lot to live up to. The main reason I stay away from romance is because there is no freaking plot. Well this book has an amazing freaking plot. You learn so much about Mary, Samson and all the hardships in their life that brought them to this cabin. Mary is working through her husbands untimely death and how to feel alive again. Samson is seriously the best character. He’s sexy, rough, sweet and an amazing listener. And don’t even get me started on the spice in this book 🔥🔥 I love that this is about a forty year old woman and an older man. It shows that lust and needs don’t die as you age. Overall, an amazing, quick, spicy read that tackles hard subjects of loss, grief and love while being spicy as hell

This review is for an ARC I received.

My experience with romance novels has been mostly limited to historical drama with some spice, so reading a contemporary story with a lot of spice was a new experience for me.

I found the story really engaging and the characters are people you root for. Also the descriptive language is wonderful, which I can't often say about a lot of books in this genre. The sex scenes are very spicy, but have a constant thread of consent and empowerment that made it satisfying to read even if some of the kinks are not my kinks. And most importantly, it had a satisfying ending!

If you're looking to get into the holiday spirit with some sex instead of snow, this is the book for you.

Ever have a Santa fantasy? Well you do now. Santa baby… nah Santa daddy, this book was so realistic and do -able 😉 if you catch my drift. I really appreciated that it wasn’t just set on a 20 something year old perfect figure woman it was more inclusive than that. It included a much more body positive woman pointed more towards the readers. This book is VERY steamy absolutely 18+.

Samson is older and can tell that Mary needs to be saved and the let go of her grief even just for a night but he wants her to figure that out for herself. An absolute twist on a gingerbread hallmark movies.

It was so entertaining to read and really sucks you in with the perfect length, it doesn’t drag on when the point was made you knew it. Easily my favorite spicy Santa, add some leather and you have good old Samson!

With all of that said this book still has a sensitive side with the loss of loved ones and body images on both sides and age.

I'm officially in my smutty Santa era. This was very well written and starts with a lonely, horny middle aged woman in a cabin and a stranded older biker that strongly resembles a sexy version of Santa. There was actually a well-developed story under all the banging. But big CW: the FMC's backstory deals with grief and grieving is a huge part of the story. and I had a hard time with that.

BR with my girl Debbie and wasn't this just a completely delightful surprise?

I anticipated a broken FMC. I anticipated darkness and grimness with a Santa kink. Let's face it, I anticipated smut! 🤣 I mean with that title???

But what I got was a tremendously good surprise. Oona Grace can write!

This story had me right from the beginning. Mary IS broken. make no mistake. She is grieving the loss of a husband and the unbearable pity of family and friends. So she decides to take off for the holidays and spend some time with books, battery operated toys and booze. And why not I say? Sounds like the perfect holiday 😂

On her first night, snowed in, stoned and somewhat boozed up, 'Santa' (aka Samson) appears at the cabin with a broken motorcycle needing help. I swear, I just lol at Mary's level of suspicion at the whole scenario being either the start of either a porn or horror film! As the story progresses, we find out more about each of them, their respective brokenness and see them discover something new in life.

Samson is delightfully dominant and Mary not the least but repressed. The freedom they find with each other (and those toys) gave me my smut fix but with ❤. There was all kinds of light kink happening but unlike so much smutty goodness, this one had older MCs, solid writing and a story and depth of character that hooked me in and kept me reading the whole thing in one hit.

An unexpectedly good Christmas treat.

Is this my destiny, to collect the memories of these perfect men and carry their ghosts with me? How do you escape the ghosts when the place that’s haunted is your body? Your heart?

It’s hard to think that a 39-year-old main character is considered “later in life”, but maybe I’m just not keen on being considered close to the “later in life” designation.

Sexy biker, age-gap, Santa 🤷🏼‍♀️, wood chopping, kinks galore. A wonderful Christmas read, the perfect amount of spice and actual plot.

Beautiful story of coming to terms with grief, and acceptance of trauma. I really enjoyed the plot to this quick read, it was slow to engage at the very start, I think there was just a little something missing, but otherwise incredibly well written, imaginative and oooh the spice.

I might not quite be in the age bracket to find a 55 year old man drop dead gorgeous and sinful, but with a little imagination anything is possible 🔥

4/5 recommend, just personal preference and slow entry for me. But it's a 2022 Christmas must read.

This book was an absolutely perfect holiday read. It was incredibly sexy while also being sensitive to the main character, Mary’s troubled backstory. These characters are old enough to know their own bodies and they know how to have a good time, together. The little touches of Christmas and winter throughout were delightful as well, it really got me in the spirit!

Oona has an amazing talent for writing and, seriously, everyone needs to go support her now! It's witty, quirky, and reads like a dream. I was able to get a good sense of the main character's personality immediately, and could easily identify her with people in my own life with similar personalities (that's how well-written this character is). But onto the story -- it moves quickly and packs a lot in, but in a way that's digestible. And of course spiciness is 🌶🌶🌶🌶🌶/5

Holy. Forking. Shirtballs. This book had me squirming in my office chair all day!

Mary, a widow who has lost her spark, goes away for an isolated Christmas with her books, toys, pot, and alcohol.

Samson, a biker with a sordid past, shows up at her cabin with motorcycle issues.

Before I knew it they were going at it all over the cabin and Samson revived Mary so much better than her toys could.

What was only supposed to be a weekend fling turns into exactly what both of them need to move on from their pasts!

Oona Grace definitely struck gold with her first book and I can’t wait to see what else she has up her sleeves!

Y’all Santa is on fire!

The two main characters of this story have things in both their pasts that they are trying to move on from. Mary lost her husband a few years ago and never got over it. Samson has had a colorful MC lifestyle. Samson brings out something in Mary that makes you feel like she got her groove back. They spend time together through a ice storm at the end they to make a decision. He leaves it for Mary to figure out! The ending was adorable! Great chemistry, great writing.

first book????

There’s no way this is the first book by author Oona Grace. Smut aside, of which there is plenty, this was such a well written emotional book that I’d have guessed the author was a seasoned veteran at pulling emotion from her readers.

My only complaint about this book is that it was novella length and not a full length novel.

Mary is entering her second Christmas season as a widow, now 40 years old and totally unprepared for the pitied looks and uncomfortable conversations at the endless required holiday gatherings she takes a time out and flees to a cabin in the woods for the holiday season. The last thing she expected was a hot older biker to show up at her door in the middle of a snow storm.

This is about where the spice takes off but it didn’t switch from heartfelt and emotional, it weaved the two beautifully and my initial reaction remains. There’s no way this is a first novel for Oona and if it is, I think we are in for a lot of excellent reading ahead!

Christmas and grief seem to be a natural pair, and here we have a woman who still dearly misses her husband who died suddenly due to a medical condition a couple of years ago. Her family looks at her with pity over the holidays, so she skips town and goes to the cabin her husband inherited from a relative. While there she crosses paths with a biker who gives off Santa vibes, they have a night of passionate sex, and then have to figure out what to do the next morning.

All around solid and enjoyable.
