"The kind of book I wish I had as a kid!" – Christopher Eliopoulos, author-illustrator of Cosmic Commandos
Get sucked in - literally - to the Land of Anything Goes with Louie and Bear, in this hilarious graphic novel filled with bizarre new worlds, crazy creatures, and a whole lot of adventure! Perfect for fans of Hilo and Cardboard Kingdom !
Welcome to the Land of Anything Goes! It's a world filled with wild creatures, absurd chicken-boy hybrids, and oh, did we mention the giant winged, kid-eating monster called a Cacapoop?
When Louie and his pet hamster get sucked through a portal into a bizarre new land where truly anything can happen, they have no idea the adventure that's waiting for them. Really, they're less focused on adventure and more concerned about the fact that Louie has turned into a wrestler, Scooty the hamster has become Bear the giant bear, and they're now being chased across a purple planet by a terrifying monster! When they find other kids stuck on the planet too, they learn that things are even worse than they feared -- dozens of kids are trapped by the dastardly Hairy Larry, and it's up to Louie to save them all. And if that wasn't worrying enough, Bear can't even find a single burrito to eat! In order to make it home alive, Louie and Bear will have to embrace their destinies and save the day... or be stranded in the Land of Anything Goes forever.
After performing a wrestling movie in preparation to watch a wrestling competition on TV,Louie's transported to fantasy land made up of ridiculous looking character and monsters. His hamster, Scooty transports with them. When they finally land, Louie is in a wrestling outfit and Scooty has become a giant bear. In the Land of Anything Goes, you are transformed into some version of what you were thinking right when you left the real world. The Land of Anything Goes is being run by the neighborhood kid that nobody likes, and he's trapped them here so he can have friends to play with. According to a prophecy, Louie is supposed to save all of the kids trapped. All of the characters, monsters, and setting look like something that came from an 7 year old's suggestions. It was too much for me. For fans of Kitty Quest, Barb the Last Berzerker, and Super Turbo.
Graphic Novel I received an electronic ARC from Penguin Publishing Group through Edelweiss+. Smith spins out an absurd world that upper elementary readers will love. The Land of Anything Goes was created by an "evil" child who didn't have any friends. Another lonely child falls into this land and is recognized as a chosen one to rescue all the kidnapped children. Each person/creature in this land has been transformed in some manner. Readers will appreciate the ridiculousness and fun that wraps around a more serious concern about friendship.
Far from my favorite graphic novel of all time. It takes the "anything goes" in its title literally, which makes for some fun absurd moments. And I now have a buff dude in a diaper with a chicken head as the lock screen on my phone.
This was ok. The story was a bit too out there for me to follow. Louie gets sucked into a random world where everything scary is named something ridiculous to take the fear away from it. Louie and Bear have to find a way to get all the kids back home. Can they?
