Candy Canes and Christmas Kisses

Rate this book
There’s no better time to fall in love than Christmas.

Foster
I wanted her the moment I saw her. I don’t care that she's older, that she’s got two kids, any of that baggage she says should push me away. I want her. It takes six months after she moves in next door before she agrees to a date. One date. It’s my one chance, and that’s all I need.

Harlow
My excuses aren’t holding up anymore. Not when I want him as much as he wants me. I put it off for six months, but all it takes is the magic of Christmas and I’m falling for my younger neighbor, inviting him into my heart and my bed, and discovering the true magic of Christmas.

❄️ BOOK REVIEW ❄️

“𝑯𝒂𝒗𝒆 𝒂 𝒈𝒐𝒐𝒅 𝒕𝒊𝒎𝒆, 𝑯𝒂𝒓𝒍𝒐𝒘,” 𝒉𝒆 𝒔𝒂𝒚𝒔, 𝒂𝒎𝒖𝒔𝒆𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒔𝒕𝒊𝒍𝒍 𝒆𝒗𝒊𝒅𝒆𝒏𝒕 𝒊𝒏 𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒕𝒐𝒏𝒆. “𝑪𝒂𝒍𝒍 𝒎𝒆 𝒊𝒇 𝒚𝒐𝒖 𝒇𝒆𝒆𝒍 𝒍𝒊𝒌𝒆 𝒉𝒂𝒗𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝒔𝒐𝒎𝒆 𝒓𝒆𝒂𝒍 𝒇𝒖𝒏.”

Candy Canes & Christmas Kisses—a holiday contemporary romance novel with so much unfiltered smut it’ll have your cheeks redder than Santa’s coat or Rudolph’s nose or the tiny berries in mistletoe or…wait—what else is red?

I feel like whenever I start my reviews with nice quotes and a little joke it’ll have people hooked, and I hope it’s the same this time because this Christmas romance was everything I didn’t know I needed. Most of you know that I prefer dark romances to the lighter stuff but that doesn’t mean I entirely exclude contemporary romances.

CC&CK (Vi—you really need to make your titles shorter and a little less “Fall Out Boy”)(I’m kidding, I love your titles. Keep them) is truly a feel good type of romcom with glorious smut and romantic tension and the perfect Christmas read this month.

I loved the overall story and while I’m not the biggest fan of the single parent trope, Vi wrote it really well. Harlow, recently divorced with two kids moves in next door from Foster. A young man, sculpted like Adonis and just as determined. There’s not much in terms of plot driven complexities but there’s some when it comes to the main characters as this book is character driven—it focuses more on Harlow’s and Foster’s character development, their inner thoughts and their internal changes and it was beautifully written.

Oh! And in terms of tropes, CC&CK has some of the best ones: reverse age gap, single parent, edge play, role play, dirty talk, light dom/sub, praise kink. And if this all doesn’t convince you, I hope the fact that I read it in one sitting, one day, will.

Anyways—a very fun and cute Christmas romance with smut so filthy you need to lock your doors. Written from first point of view (present tense) with dual narration. Loved the characters and the ending/epilogues are sweetly done. Would for sure recommend.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️🌟

(The fact that there’s no candy cane emoji is absolutely absurd but whatever)

This was hella cute and I (mostly) enjoyed it. It's a combo of christmas-themed story and reverse age-gap romance with high steam and very low angst, and it contains none of the usual cliches that are abundant in holiday romances these days.

It features a hero who falls first and worships the ground the heroine walks on, and who's just all in from the start. He loves her kids and is overall hella supportive and emotionally mature, and on top of that he's got a dirty mind and walks around donning an eight pack. What can I say, I ate this shit up, I'm easy like that xD

Things that did spoil it a bit for me:

☛ Harlow is divorced and at first, her ex is described as a decent guy and a great father, and they have a pretty good co-parenting relationship - this ends when Foster (hero) enters the picture and the ex turns evil so fast, it's wild.

Honestly, I didn't particularly care for this vilification of the ex, I just think it's lazy writing.

☛ Some of the dirty talk between Foster and Harlow was weird af, like when Foster would call himself "guy 11 years younger than you" and you know, it was a true statement, but the way he'd underline their age difference so it could serve as a turn-on during sex was...a choice, I guess?

☛ Loved Harlow's relationship with her kids and how open she was with them and the way she reacted to her daughter coming out was perfection, but...some things just made me go LOL in my head, e.g. when she said to her kids, age 11 and 13, that she'd be filing for sole custody because their father's absentee ways are not good for this intense developmental stage of their teenage years *blinks slowly*

Anyway, all in all, this was a cute, relaxing read and I'm into reading more from this author (like maybe about Foster's brothers, especially Lucas).

This was my first Christmas book this year, and oh am I happy that it was this book! Violet did it again! The characters, the story, the plots, the tropes, THE SPICE, IMMACULATE, the writing, PERFECTION

If that didn’t convince you, here’s a list of some of the tropes:
• single hot mom
• hot neighbor
• reverse age gap
• mid size FMC
• ALL CHRISTMAS THINGS
• Christmas themed spice 🥵

The characters in this book was so damn well thought and worked through, from the first page to the last!
Harlow, the hot single mom, AND so much more! Harlow should be a role model for everyone, the way she was confident, and believed in herself, and believed in others, but also had limits and new when to let someone go, that’s admirable!
The way she was with her kids is among the cutest things I’ve ever read! Her relationship with them is so strong and never wavered!

The Hale brothers, one specific Hale brother, Foster🥺
Man did he know how to treat a woman and how to treat others! He can do no wrong! He knows what he want and he.. no he doesn’t take it, he WORKS for it, he earns it! He would do anything for Harlow and her kids and he belonged in that family from DAY ONE!

Mia and Matt, THE SWEETEST KIDS EVER, and they are so smart for their age, knowing what’s wrong and right, probably got it from their mom! They’re so perceptive and insightful it’s almost a little scary!
I love the relationship they have between each other and I love the relationship they have with Harlow, NOT TO MENTION FOSTER🥺

The Christmas vibes in this book was so cozy and it finally gave me the Christmas feelings I’ve been missing this year. I will definitely reread this book next Christmas and come back to this world, I’ll miss them so much until them🥺 was this book! Violet did it again! Harlow is newly divorced mom. She isn’t looking to start a new relationship even though her hot younger neighbor, Foster, keeps flirting with her. After many months of trying Foster finally get Harlow to agree to a date. Since Foster is younger Harlow questions how serious Foster is about being with her long term. Foster doesn’t mind one bit proving how serious he is.
This book is so sweet that by the end you will have a cavity and it is so hot that you probably will need to change your panties. I loved how confident Harlow is in her beautiful mom body. Foster is honestly the sweetest with his Christmas themed dates. He is also the hottest with other Christmas themed things 😉. One of my favorite parts about this book was the relationship between Harlow and Foster. It is such a solid relationship, there is no miscommunication issues. I love the way their relationship has such a natural progression. The only thing better then their relationship is Foster’s Christmas themed bucket list 🔥.

“I know what I want, and it’s you. I want you, Matt and Mia, and whatever future comes with that. I told you from the beginning I was all in. I’m saying it again, this time with the words I love you. I’m in this. You, the kids, all of it. And if you don’t want more kids, that’s fine. This family is enough. We’re a family, baby.” 🫶🏻🤍

2.5 ✩ I liked the tropes going into this book and I really enjoyed the Christmas themed storyline, dates and smut. However it was very predictable, I did get bored whilst reading and I feel like it could’ve been a lot shorter.

First book I read by Violet and wow! This author is officially on my radar. She delivered a heart-warming, spicy, sweet, tender romance that squeezed my heart in the best way.

Harlow hasn't dated since her divorce. Being a single mom has had most of her focus. When she moves with her kids to a new neighborhood, she finds her next door neighbor to be extremely distracting and way too sexy for his own good. This disarms her and makes her want to put distance between them, especially when there's an 11-year difference between them and she thinks he isn't serious or mature. But Foster is determined to win her over. He's set out to prove to her their age doesn't matter, that he's ready to be with her, and be a father figure to her kids.

“When I kiss you for the first time, when I finally get my lips on you and make you beg for everything you want me to do to you, you’ll be stone cold fucking sober and remember every minute of what I do to your body.”

I wasn't sure what to expect of this book, but I certainly wasn't expecting for this to become a favorite. I hope to re-read it every holiday! I loved how Foster and Harlow, despite their ever-growing attraction between them, started off as friends after meeting each other. Their romance became all that more believable because of the background they had.

“Tell me what you need to get there. Tell me what you want. Be selfish for me, baby.”

I was rooting for Foster to win over Harlow from the very beginning! Every aspect of their romance was just so beautiful! I loved how Foster always went out of his way to make their dates memorable. I will never forget the chocolate tasting date! Such a brilliant idea! And even better, whenever Harlow's kids were around, he'd include them in the dates or plans he had. My heart was just melting constantly over this family!

I'm so excited to read about the other Hale brothers after meeting them in this book. And hopefully, we get sneak peeks of Foster and Harlow in them, because I don't want to let them go.

IF YOU LIKE
- Smutty holiday romances
- Edge Play
- Role Play (Santa Claus; so hot!)
- Chocolate tastings
- Candy canes (as a sexual toy)
- Reverse age gap (11-year difference)
- Single Mom
- Neighbor next door

Ok, so this book was full on naughty AND nice

Harlow (37) has just recently gone through a divorce. She has decided to move out of her ex’s home, and make a fresh start with her kids (11 and 13).

When Foster (26) meets his new neighbor, Harlow, he know he has just met the woman of his dreams; will Harlow ever give him a chance?

This book has some truly swoon-worthy, Hallmark Christmas movie-esque romantic scenes, but then layers these with some truly hot and steamy scenes with dirty talk, praise, role play, and other fun stuff 😘.

The characters were very well developed, from the kids, to Foster’s brothers, and I’m so sad I won’t be able to continue onto Micah’s story until next year! 😭

I loved how confident Harlow was with being a 37 year-old mom, especially around the natural changes her body has gone through. That is something I have only recently been able feel in my own life, and it’s always great to see someone a *bit* like you on the page.

If you are looking for a perfect blend of sugar and spice for your next Holiday read, 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘺 𝘊𝘢𝘯𝘦𝘴 & 𝘊𝘩𝘳𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘮𝘢𝘴 𝘒𝘪𝘴𝘴𝘦𝘴 will serve you well!

Happy release day

This was such a sweet, heartwarming, filthy Christmas story and just what I needed!

A reverse age gap (yum 🥵) single mother and next door neighbour. Harlow and Foster were so hot they’d melt all the snow! What I love about Violets books is that the fmc are always such real women, with real bodies and they own themselves and their confidence. Which gives me hope and that I aspire to be like them when I grow up (even though I’m 30 in February 🤣)

Harlow is 37, recently divorced mother of 2 tweens and Foster is her 25 year old neighbour who is just besotted with her, this man just doesn’t give up when it comes to wooing her. With Christmas themed dates and a Christmas kinklist that’s super spicy… I can’t look at candycanes the same way 🥵 I loved watching their relationship develop and seeing Foster step up to be the man she needed all along.

No rating: I love this author and loved all of the characters in this book. I think this is a really sweet book with a whole lot of spicy scenes. Very good spicy scenes at that 🥵

That said, it wasn’t my cup of tea. I need way more angst and buildup. I love this author and don’t feel right giving a lower rating simply because I don’t like cinnamon roll men in my romances lol.

This is an age gap, neighbors romance.

She’s 37, recently divorced, and has 2 kids.

He’s 26, tall, hot, and muscular, and had his eyes set on Harlow and Harlow alone from the very first meeting.

It’s all super sweet. He’s a golden retriever, cinnamon roll, sunshine man. She’s hesitant about starting anything because of her “age” and he doesn’t care. He wants her.

Like I said, it just wasn’t for me. Very Hallmark Christmas movie, though!

This was so good! Like Hallmark but after dark. Five stars. I’d give it more if I could.

Listen. When I say top tier plot + top tier smut. You have to run. THERE IS A CANDY CANE scene that left me 🤪😜

This book has my favorite things. Single divorced mom. Reverse age gap. A praise kink that’s 👨‍🍳 💋

And lord, the possessive dominate man who takes over when they’re in the bedroom but is emotionally mature and nurturing when they’re not? Dead. Bury me. He’s the best.

This was a cute and easy read. I liked the characters and the story line was fairly solid. There were a few scenes that annoyed me but I think that was just my personal preference and mood at the time of reading. I did love all the holiday vibes in it too. Foster was an amazing guy! I wonder if I can find myself a Foster somewhere?

They have sex at 25% in with almost no build up of the relationship. He’s too perfect. All the Christmas stuff was cute but it was just too boring for me. This should’ve been a novella. 300 pages was too long. With two epilogues. Of course they get married and have 2 more babies.

Reverse age gap
He’s 26 and she’s 37. He only dates older women. She’s a mid sized single mom with two teens.

Ok

This book was OK. The story line could have been expanded with more of basically a story line. The sex was hot, but half the book is the sex. 5 pages or so for each sex scene. I started skipping them after a while. The whole idea for this book was a great one but I didn't feel it was fulfilled.

It been six months and there is no progress yet?! Also it bothers me that the age gap is being brought up too often. Like let’s move it along. Also I felt like there were a few minor details that kept switching up.

I know christmas is over but I couldn’t stop thinking about my first christmas read this year so I had to share my thoughts with you 🎄🤍

Let me just start with showing you what amazing tropes you will find in this book:
• single hot mom
• hot neighbour
• reverse age gap
• christmas themed dates

It was so easy to get into the book and I was hooked pretty fast, which also had something to do with the fact that the chapters had the perfect length. I’m a sucker for dual POV and Violet didn’t disappoint with giving us the story from Harlows and Foster POV. You could feel the tension between Harlow and Foster trough the pages and I loved how from the moment he saw her he was obsessed and wanted to worship the ground she walked on, which he did. love how he wanted to make her understand that she deserved more than the bare minimum and that he as willing to give it to her. He truly knows how to treat a lady ;) Also Foster relationship with Mia and Matt was just adorable. I just love a good single parent book where the kids connect with the new partner of their parents and form a bond, it gets me every time.
They all make such a cute little family and I loved how Harlow always did what’s best for her children and was such a great mother to them. The way Foster was all in with her and the kids from day one just made him even better <3 I just loved their dynamic as a family and their ending was just perfect and well deserved!!
