A wary fire witch searches for belonging, not love. But fate, it seems, has other plans....
After a decade of blending in with humanity, I’ve returned to my magic-infused hometown to start over. Within hours, I lock eyes with the jock who bullied me in high school. What’s worse, he’s set to be my new boss, his misty aura tantalizing my darkest desires.
Now all the Teutons in town believe I’m fated to ascend as their next matriarch, thanks to some age-old tradition. But the priests consider my bloodline far too weak for such prestige. I’m a threat to the established order.
I have no wish to submit to fate’s whims. If my only escape involves claiming my boss as my lover, I’ll reignite my fire for a wild dance with mist.
Desperate desire blooms into what might be love, but will passion prove strong enough to defeat fate’s ruthless schemes?
C.L. Carhart has been writing since the age of 4, dabbling in everything from children’s books, to fantasy, to historical fiction. Eventually, her lifelong interest in European history inspired her to create a mystical other-world based on the Teutonic people groups. Her Teutonic Fantasy Realm is chock full of heart-pounding adventure, dark magic, and swoon-worthy romance.
A book addict, stray cat rescuer, and unashamed metalhead, you can find her plotting out fresh stories deep in the night with a can of diet soda and a fun-sized panther infringing on her progress.
I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily. If I could I would of given this a 2.5 star review but it’s not possible. I see the potential in this story very much. I love the creativity in it for sure in how the people in this story have a connection the elements on this planet and that they have a strong beliefs system. But structure wise there is a lot of holes in this story that leaves a lot of questions.
I am pretty interested in the hierarchy of this religion and the history behind these people and wish I got more info on it. The other thing I had a problem with this book is in some case some scenes were rushed while others were drawn out and almost hyper fixated.
But the main reason I was not a big fan of this book is it just wasn’t my cup of tea really and that happens. I didn’t really connect with the characters as I would of liked to and so for me it just didn’t work out. But I encourage others to give it a shot because the author did creat something beautiful.
this was a great start to the Elemental Bloodlines series, it was what I was hoping for from the description. It was a great concept for a Paranormal Romance, it does the romance in a great way and worked well together. I enjoyed the way this was written and enjoyed the way C. L. Carhart wrote this. I can't wait to read more in this series.

I picked this ARC up completely at random because I liked the sound of the blurb, and because I wanted to read book two but figured I might start at the beginning.
Of course, it turns out there's a prequel novella but, oh well!
Gift of Fire tells the story of Gabi, a Teuton witch with the element of fire under her command, but who's apparently just BARELY a witch by their conclave's standards, and when she returns home she runs right into her high school bully Lukas, now supposedly her future boss. Naturally, the two of them have to work through their own twists and turns while dealing with outside influences that are at work here, including but not limited to continued bullying, random dark priests just wanting Gabi because that's what they do, and demon summoning on top of everything else.
Not to worry though, this all ends with a happily ever after!
I enjoyed the setting and the magic system, though honestly? I'd really love to have it explained a little bit more. Sure you get glimpses of stuff through the story, but what we got is both confusing as it is perplexing. Apparently, you measure an infant's magical aptitude with a dagger (I'm imagining it rolling out percentage like a calculator now) and you can boost up your magical level by having sex? It's intriguing but also confusing because we never get to see the full extent of the rules.
Gabi and Lukas were okay as protagonists, though I felt Gabi was a bit too wishy-washy at times and Lukas needed to just settle himself a bit more firmly and talk to her about stuff. Miscommunication between them - mostly from Lukas' side when he didn't open his mouth - is the source of most of their problems throughout the story, and it's never my favourite thing to witness.
However, I did like the colourful cast of characters assembled for the story, and I was REALLY happy for Bianca at the end. I'm also curuous enough to want to read the second book to figure out how this story unfold, so I may also keep tabs on this author and the series to see what's what in future.
Overall, the story was good, the protagonists okay, the magic system could do with some more explanation, and maybe a thing or two shouldn't have been solved as easily as it was.
It is, however, an engrossing and entertaining read, and can really transport you into quite the magical world for the afternoon!
Love, drama, action, secrets galore, & more await you OK first I want an Eilhalbe in a Silver Oak tree. Definitely want more Bianca and Oliver with Gabi in it. Gabi is so relatable! If you love learning about various cultures food so many sound delicious, I think we'd all love a Teuton recipe book, hint hint.
The story is about accepting the hard truths committed against us or that we have committed against others. To get past that, find our own way in the world, and what makes us shine regardless of what anyone says. We are all capable & deserving of love. Gabi returns home after years away to end up in almost the exact same place she was as she left, being belittled for her Teuton magic percentage. Can she overcome the prejudice? Can she have the one man her fire has wanted for over a decade, has he changed? Or does fate have other plans for Gabi? Would someone dare harm Gabi or her family's Silver Oak? Will Gabi find love? Who with? Unexpected secrets are divulged and it leads to unexpected consequences. There's so much to unpack in these pages that you won't want the journey to end. If you like action, suspense, paranormal, fantasy, love, enemies to lovers, will they won't they, and some darkness there is definitely something for you in this book. I highly recommend it! Oh and you'll fall in love with a certain Winston.
What an interesting concept! The idea of being connected to different elements was very cool! I loved the fairy and connection with nature along with the relationships with their elderly.
However, this was not my favorite story to read. The concept caught my attention but the story as a whole just fell flat. The storyline seemed very rushed to me. The heroine was kind of all over the place with her thoughts and feelings-a lot of jumping to conclusions on her part and it did not feel genuine. I felt no real connection to any of the characters. The love story wasn’t believable for me either. I had a really hard time finishing the book but I did and I definitely see potential.
Parts of the story felt very rushed - mainly feelings and the connections between the characters. They would skip weeks/months to get to the next main event but I feel like we missed out on a lot by doing that. Then there were other details that seemed very drawn out. I think there could definitely be a better balance to give the readers more of a genuine connection with the characters. I want to feel like I know them and could be friends with them, or at least hate the same people and I just didn’t get that with this story.

I gave i to his book a three due to its being somewhat more interesting than the usual romantic trope that gets so boring . With that being the case, I felt like the writing is lacking in several directions: in character development , good writing skills, and even description of where they are, in relationship to th rest of the world, all of which would make for a better novel. Adjectives are repetitive, and poorly placed, and at first, I thought this might be a first novel. This is the first one I have read of this author, who obviously is talented at creativity, just lacking skills that can be acquired. I grew tired of tube “sensing”) a JC some odd unexplained attitudes around sex. For examples, many people getting naked at an indoor pool in the middle of an elegant party, while a couple in the room is in is private conversations in an alcove in the same room. It remained unclear what the mores or traditions of the Teutonics were.Odd mixed religious beliefs that aren’t exactly t was all so unclear.clear, and jump around, in one class seemingly proselytizing, but then maybe not… either yes or no might have worked, but Iti seemed unclear.
Compulsively readable, Gift of Fire is the story of Gabi, a Teuton woman, moving back to her hometown after a breakup. After interviewing for a job where her high school bully would end up as her boss, Gabi is reminded of her shortcomings due to having a lower percentage of Teuton blood. She finds that her fire magic is attracted to her new boss’s mist, despite their sordid history. But will that be enough as she continues to deal with the prejudices that surround her?
If going without sleep wasn’t an option, I would have read Gift of Fire in one sitting. Gabi’s growth throughout the book, especially as she deals with her past relationship and uncovered secrets, proves her to be a strong MC. She continuously deals with obstacles and hardships with her head held high. The setting was also beautifully described. I could easy visualize each scene as it progressed.
This story shows us the power of love in all its facets – platonic and romantic. With a strong cast of characters, Teutonian politics, action, and drama, Gift of Fire is a true delight to read.
Special thanks to the author for the ARC. All thoughts in this review are honest and my own.
I really enjoyed this book. I plan on reading the other books in the series because I like the setting where this story takes place. I really like how the author created the world and all the magic going on in the story. Gabi has come home to Erlangen to escape from a controlling ex-boyfriend and hopefully help out her family. Gabi's relationship with her mother is strained to say the least. She has an interview at an accounting firm where she is interviewed by Lukas, one of her bullies in high school. Luckily, her brother Dennis and her best friend Bianca is excited to have her around. Gabi soon finds out the Lukas only bullied her because he had a crush on her. They start a relationship which has many ups and downs. On top of Gabi and Lukas trying to be honest with each other, they are thrown in with a debt to a demon. There is a HEA but it takes a bit to get to it. It is really worth it though. Half of the book I was mad at Lukas and the other I thought he was the best for Gabi. Gabi has a lot going on in her life, which was all triggered by her return. :D
A fantasy romance filled with Pain, Prejudice, Forgiveness and Redemption.
Gabi is a Fire Witch who has returned to her childhood home after a bad break up. Gabi just wants a simple life especially after being bullied and ridiculed her whole life for not being amongst the strangest of Elemental witches. Within the Teuton society Gabi was treated as if she were less simply because of how others viewed her magic.
Gabi is ready for a redo in life but of course Fate has other plans. The hits keeps coming left and right. Her past has come back with a vengeance in the form of her high school bully Lukas.
Follow Gabi on a journey of self discovery and learning to love again. Her and Lukas had some ups and downs and some misunderstandings along the way but no matter the circumstance Gabi's Fire magic was a siren's call to Lukas' Water/Mist magic.

The story itself is good. It jumps in time a lot without warning or concluding conversations that were being had. It's the sole reason I gave this 3 stars. That being said, the story does pull you in and gets your attention. I just wished it was easier to keep up with it jumping from a conversation to a week, or month, later.
If that sort of thing doesn't bother you, then you absolutely should read this book. I did like how, although it's in a secret "mystical and magical" world alongside the "normal", they still dealt with the same prejudices and nonsensical cruelty mere mortals do.
Perfect start to the elemental bloodline series and C.L. Carhart has started it off epically. With love, action, secrets from the past and creating new relationships what's not to love. Gabi is so relatable after being bullied all through school, I felt draw to her character for those same reasons only she stood up for herself and protected her silver Oak Eilhalbe in the end. It was lovely to read about Ilsa and Horst as well and how they are still growing strong together. With soo many new faces, I can't wait to read more about their adventures and relationships. Fingers crossed for a story on Bianca and Oliver.
Having read CL Carhart's six-book series, His Name Was Augustin, an intense, historical, fantasy which addresses some complex and difficult themes, I wasn't sure how to react to her new series. She has taken the elemental magic and setting from HNWA and woven them into stand alone novels featuring modern-day romance.
Gift of Fire is not just a fantasy romance, however; it's a story about family, loyalty, and misunderstandings. I enjoy CL's writing, her prose flow effortlessly and allow me to become immersed in her stories. I'm looking forward to her next book.
I received an advance copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
The ways in which magic works in this book is interesting, sadly it was poorly executed.
There was a lot of telling, not showing in this story; along with a strange timeline, inconsistent characterisation and very weird bedroom scenes. None of the characters had dimensions or character development. Added to that there were some scenes that were not just sex shaming, but also totally homophobic… which made no sense considering what we were told about some the characters. It was so disappointing to have a book with this take of magic just not working.
This is my first book by this author. I enjoyed the writing style, the world building, and character development. Gabi is a young witch who is working to overcome adversity and find her place in the world. She finds love and acceptance where she least finds it and walks away with some pretty great friends. I do think some things could have been expanded on and there be a bit less jumping of time in a single chapter, but these are small things in comparison to the greatness of this book.
Gia is a Teuton fire witch, who returns to her home town after a failed relationship. She's not looking for another love, or a physical relationship, especially with her new boss - so if that's what it takes, she might be better off staying on her own. How does she know him? What more serious threats does she face?
CL Carhart writes an exciting opener for her Elemental Bloodlines series, in Gift of Fire. Get it today, to see what's next, when the fire and mist mingle, and her enemies gather near!
Gabi, the Fire Witch is a character to admire. She is strong and carries herself through a few tough situations, and Makes her way to the other side of them. The book was hard for me to put down, and I loved the way everything came together for her in the end. I do not do spoilers, so read it and find out. One thing is coming back home is never easy. I Loved It!!! I received an ARC from BookSirens and i am Leaving this Totally Honest Review because I Choose to and Enjoyed the story!!!
GIFT OF FIRE is the first book in the Elemental Bloodlines series. As the first in a series, it has to lay a lot of groundwork and answer a lot of questions. I think this worked easily enough and I was able to follow, understand, and enjoy the different magic of the Teuton way.
I also loved that it was set in Erlangen, about a 3-hour drive away from my home. Having a fantasy and/or romance series set in Germany puts this in the minority but, to me, also makes it stand out.
There are lots of secrets in this book and lots of hints of what might be coming. I was so pleased for Bianca but I really hope Nicole gets her comeuppance! Time flows quickly in this book and, sometimes, that made it hard to keep up.
All of the characters in this book are really well-written, and it doesn't matter if you like or loathe them. A great start to the series by a new-to-me author but one I will definitely be reading more from. Definitely recommended by me. ** same worded review will appear elsewhere **

I absolutely loved the dynamic in Gift of Fire! C.L. Carhart does a fantastic job with the "bully-boss" trope. The history between Gabi and Lukas makes their transition from enemies to something more feel so meaningful and earned. Gabi is a strong, relatable lead, and watching her reclaim her power while navigating her past with Lukas was the highlight for me. It’s a great blend of unique magic and heartfelt character growth. Highly recommend!
I enjoyed this story about Gabi who returns to her home town and gets a new job. But then things go a bit wrong and the story gets real interesting. I enjoyed the story and the characters. They made me laugh and groan but entertained me. Had to see what would happen next and how it would all play out.
Allow a full day for this near-contemporary NC17 paranormal parallel-world fantasy romance set in what would be Bavaria in our world, but do not read in public as chortles will ensue. I had an ARC via Bookfunnel and this is my voluntary review.
Lucas and Gabi overcome so much for their love to bloom fully. he secrets and the lies that are revealed could have been devastating and instead helped to bind them fully together. Wonderfully told with humour, compassion and some heart wrenching moments.
I loved the different concept of magic in this book. It did a great job at building the world and integrating it with the real world. The romance was perfect. Can't wait to read the next one.
I received an ARC copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I enjoyed this book. With a good mixture of intrigue and personal and intrapersonal conflicts, I enjoyed this book. It’s a perfect little story for the holidays.
A witch coming back to her magic in an enemies-to-lovers romantasy
If you like fantasy largely based in this world (like Harry Potter), and enjoy the idea of a woman starting over in her hometown only to find out her new boss is her bully from high school, I definitely recommend this book. I found the family and friend storylines help round out the story to make it entertaining, although sometimes with so much going on I wasn’t sure which was the main thread.

This was a great story and I loved the world created in it. Elemental magic is one of my favourites but I loved the spiritual aspect of their powers making them seem like a separate co-dependant entity. I enjoyed the cultural setting in Germany and how the Teuton community was super imposed over and secret from the general community. The supernatural element to the story added great depth and intrigue. I found some plotlines a little flat and fizzled out quickly but on the whole it was enjoyable.
How should I conclude? High start interesting plot but barely touching 3stars. Honestly I expected much more and I felt left down by the story. And still I think it has great potential but not like this.
1. You know how men look like in lederhosen? Now add there a pug as a dog… I have no problem with pugs but really?! Maybe its me as a like badboy characters and it seemed that way from the description but seems he is rather a shyguy… wasnt really catching to me
2. When Gabi finds out her family background?! She just vomits in the grass then they immediately kiss in the cottage. Whuaaa just gross….
3. Honestly (and Im a living close to Germany) these words and the food and drinking beer always seems like some stereotyping…. We dont do that in Europe and not all of us are Abba fans…. (Who are actually Swedish or was that intentional?!). So I just couldnt really relate and “get closer” to the main characters even that I saw such a CD tower monstrosity in my time (I understand its 2004 but still….)
Okey so after the bad news let me deliver some good ones:
1. I really really liked the magic and its coloring…..and what can be done with it however its just referred to. Not much is brought to action.
2. The idea of color merging during dances I found fascinating
3. I liked they have a lot of festivals, castles, public transport and German cars ;)
So yes, not my book however it made nice prep for the next as I really liked Hemming’s chatacter….
