The story was disappointing as it was too short and definitely didn't have enough plot. It was lacking in background information such as a day in Sarah's life at her parents home in Tennessee. Reading how her parents treated Sarah since they fell she was a burden would give more understanding as to why she put in an ad to be a mail order bride. A more descriptive writing about young Ed approaching Sarah in the store and her feelings actions as well as James's would have filled the story out more also.
Sarah was twenty three and never been married. Her parents were ready for her to leave home. She put an ad in a magazine to be a mail order bride. Anna saw this ad and thought this would be perfect for her brother in-law. James had lost his wife and son several years ago when they came down with pneumonia at Christmas. So Anna wrote to Sarah pretending to be James. Sarah bought a ticket and headed to Oregon. Now what is Sarah going to do? How is she going to explain to her husband and to James? How is Sarah going to act? Great adventure!
Twenty-three year old Sarah was ready for marriage and adventure. Taking the step to advertise herself as a mail-order bride was exciting, yet frightening. She immediately made preparations to begin the trip to Oregon. She had no idea what awaited her at the end of the journey. Would this work out? Would she find love? Would she be excited or disappointed? These were the questions rattling around in her brain. I recommend that you pause from your busy schedule and take a peak behind the scenes. It's a pleasure to read!
Sarah places an ad and finally gets a response. She jumps into action buys a ticket to Oregon and is shocked and disappointed in what meets her. James lost his wife and son three years ago and is not ready for love. A very sweet man he can't just leave her on her own. Really enjoyed reading this sweet book.
I felt like I was being told what was happening instead of experiencing it. It didn't seem like the characters were even experiencing things with how quickly the scenes changed. I kept reading hoping to get more details and less play-by-play, alas I had to cut my losses. It wasn't worth wasting my time to read the remaining 25% of the book.
