The whole world knows Aldridge is a wicked sinner. They used to be right. The ton has labelled Charlotte a saint for her virtue and good works. They don't know the ruinous secret she hides. Then an implacable enemy reveals all. The past that haunts them wounds their nearest relatives and turns any hope of a future to ashes. Must they choose between family and one another?
Have you ever wanted something so much you were afraid to even try? That was me ten years ago.
For as long as I can remember, I've wanted to be a novelist. I even started dozens of stories, over the years.
But life kept getting in the way. A seriously ill child who required years of therapy; a rising mortgage that led to a full-time job; six children, my own chronic illness… the writing took a back seat.
As the years passed, the fear grew. If I didn't put my stories out there in the market, I wouldn't risk making a fool of myself. I could keep the dream alive if I never put it to the test.
Then my mother died. That great lady had waited her whole life to read a novel of mine, and now it would never happen.
So I faced my fear and changed it--told everyone I knew I was writing a novel. Now I'd make a fool of myself for certain if I didn't finish.
My first book came out to excellent reviews in December 2014, and the rest is history. Many books, lots of positive reviews, and a few awards later, I feel foolish for not starting earlier.
I write historical fiction with a large helping of romance, a splash of Regency, and a twist of suspense. I then try to figure out how to slot the story into a genre category. I'm mad keen on history, enjoy what happens to people in the crucible of a passionate relationship, and love to use a good mystery and some real danger as mechanisms to torture my characters.
Dip your toe into my world with one of my lunch-time reads collections or a novella, or dive into a novel. And let me know what you think.
Wow! OMG! Astounding! Amazing! Those words do little to describe To Tame a Wild Rake. The Marquess of Aldridge has been making brief appearances in stories for several years and I couldn't help but fall in love with the rascal over the years (and having won the honor of a "date" with the Marquess in a made-to-order story with Ms. Knight solidified my love for Aldridge) so it was with great anticipation that I awaited his HEA. And Ms. Knight DID NOT disappoint. Aldridge and Charlotte's story had the roller coaster of emotions running full throttle. Heart pounding action, heartfelt dialogue (and what the Duchess of Haverford does - OH MY!) earns this tale 5 stars times 10 and 5 hankies. Thank you Ms. Knight for giving Aldridge the HEA is so richly deserves. <3
The rake is a typical character in Regency Romance. The reform of a rake is a standard trope. This book stands head and shoulders above standard or typical. Read this book! The Marquis of Aldridge has cut a swath through Jude Knight's various books and novellas, deserving his disgraceful reputation, yet growing and maturing as he went, gradually moderating his behavior. Still the reputation sticks to him. Widows and unhappy wives pursue him. Lately ambitious debutantes do too, especially now that—if rumors are true—he will soon be a duke. Women—and readers—sigh over him. Alas, the one woman he wants, the only one he deeply desperately longs for, won't have him. Lady Charlotte Winderfield is the granddaughter and niece of dukes. She would make a spectacular duchess. Alas she has dark secrets of her own and plans never to marry. Never. She brings him to the brink of despair. Family interference doesn't help. He comes from a deeply dysfunctional family. She does too, but her Uncle James, a loving family man newly elevated to Duke of Winshire, and her twin sister, Sarah, provide her with an emotional safety net. Aldridge has no such support. Add vile enemies, first rate action scenes, and deeply emotional story telling and you won't be able to put this one down.
I first need to let you know if you have read all the books in this series, you will feel like you have read this book before. In a way you have. Sara and Nate's story in book 3 mirrors this book as this is her twin's Charlotte story. The books are set in the same time so some events are the same. That being said we get just highlights about what Sara and Nate are doing. This is really Aldridge and Charlotte story. Again, if you Jude's stories you already know about Aldridge, as he has showed up in many of her books, he is the rake and rouge mother warn their daughters about. All the men in his family have had many women, mistress's, widows and also many children from them. Aldridge has four that he takes care of and their mothers. Thru the books we have watch him change, grow and try to become respectful. It's really hard to change your spots when bored wives and widows still try to trap him. As fate would have there is only one woman he has admired and loved for over eight years. Charlotte is the niece and granddaughter of Dukes. She is also the woman who turned down his proposal. She has thought of Aldridge as a friend and more as she got older, but she has a dark secret that has made her vow to never marry anyone including him. Both Aldridge and Charlotte's come from family with many secrets and problems. when Charlotte needs help, she turns to him and so starts many events in motion. As in all regency romance there is a villain, one from both of their past. This book has many twists and turns. It's not so much a fast thriller with lots of intrigue but more of a steady read with both the H and h growing, learning and changing. It's amusing to watch and feel how they do along the way. The author gives just the right number of details to let you feel like you are there. This is a story you will not forget soon; it helps to have read the series just so you know the history of both family's but you will still enjoy this book if you haven't. There are some steamy parts just so you know but are needed for the story and what is going on. The story is so wonderful it has not one but two epilogues !!! I don't know if this is the last book in this series but I hope not, as I really loved each and every one of them. I received and ARC from the author and wish to thank her. This is my honest opinion and am freely giving it.
Not a favorite story of this series. When I started to read this I felt I already read it. After time researching, I realized this is basically the same story as Book 3, but from another perspective. So it seemed very repetitive to me.
Of course, when we were dealing with the h's sister parts with the villain were in more detail because it was her story. This one covers Charlotte so it is from her perspective. I have read most of the books in this series and there are many character's and you will have to pay attention so you will be confused.
The H is a favorite in this author's stories, but he certainly spread his seed around - 4 times. At least he was supporting the women/children but he never married because he loved the h. This seems be be a theme of the men in his family.
This deals with rape/incest which is off page thankfully - but be warned. It does effect the h in her feelings towards men which you can understand.
Lovemaking, outside of marriage - heat level 2.5 out of 5. Romance is not at the forefront of this story.
Some minor editing issues - wrong names used. A nasty villain from previous stories is in this one. My favorite character is Uncle James and he made an appearance. His relationship with the H's mother is still up in the air. We do have some suspenseful moments in the story and a few surprises.
Thankfully the author included an extended epilogue. Without it the story would have been lacking. No cheating, no cliffhanger for our H/h, very bumpy road to HEA, tad of spice and little on romance.
I received an advanced copy all opinions are my own and freely given. (ljb)
Another amazing story from the phenomenal Jude Knight, who always pulls me into her world of fascinating characters and romance that always warms the heart!
So exciting to finally have Aldridge and Charlotte's story, and what a story it is if I may say so! There has always been something about him that I could not help but love, and now there is no doubt that he won my heart! What he wanted was to marry Charlotte!
Charlotte has her secrets and has planned never to marry. She feels unworthy because of something that happened to her, but is unable to tell him. I love that he has always come to her through the years when she needed him and would do anything for her!
With a villain that wants to cause trouble, danger lurking and a love that needs to come to fruition, this has to be my favorite book of the series. Sigh....
The Marquess of Aldridge has a scandalous reputation, but those who know him realize what a kind, loving man he is, loyal to those he cares about. He has loved Lady Charlotte Winderfield for many years, but secrets have kept them apart. After a horrible attack, she is determined to never marry. But someone is intent on exposing their secrets, and Charlotte turns to Aldridge for help. Will this horrible circumstance bring them together at last? Can they finally share the love they both feel and have kept to themselves?
This was well-written and intriguing, with familiar characters who deserve some happiness. Grab your copy and see how they navigate what is facing them and whether they can overcome this and find what they truly deserve.
After a rape purportedly left her barren, Charlotte has resolved never to marry. But Aldridge, a duke's heir, is determined to have her. With an enemy planning to reveal their darkest secrets, can the couple overcome the past and find love?
This is a plot-driven story full of intrigue but with little character development and a cartoonish villain. Some of the most dramatic moments are described rather than being shown in the moment.
TW: references to rape, incest.
Thanks, Booksprout, for the ARC I received. This is my honest and voluntary review.
I have read a number of this author’s books; sometimes I like them, and sometimes I don't. Unfortunately, this is one I just did not like. First, I felt misled by the title, subtitle, and book description. The hero is no “wild rake” to be tamed. He might have had a more notorious past, but his present is rather dull and uninspiring. The title would have you believe the subtitle’s saint would be the heroine and the sinner the hero, but it's far more complex than that. Both the title and subtitle make you think the book is more simple than it is, but the story is a romantic suspense… and usually, the suspense overwhelmed the romance—never a good thing. The book's description leads you to think the hero and heroine are “together” as a couple for most of the book until the villain causes problems. That couldn’t be less true. From the book’s outset, the heroine is VERY against having a relationship with the hero… and that continued for a LONG time. The hero, too, actively words on NOT thinking about her. Not terribly romantic, in my book, on either’s part. Another thing that annoyed me is that the book was hard to follow with a gigantic cast of characters and families with multiple connections and backtories. I read at least one other previous book in this series, but that did not help me keep everything in this book straight. At times I literally flipped back and forth, trying to figure out who and what precisely the author was talking about; I also felt like I needed to write out family trees with connections just to keep it all straight. I don't like to work that hard for pleasure read! I also did not like the sections written from the villain's perspective. For what should be a Regency romance, they were a bit too dark, and these days, I prefer my books to be pure light. Also, I may be a purist, but I prefer my Regency romances in general to be light and lovely, without a hint of dark. Write a Gothic if you want that aspect as a key feature in a book. Ultimately, I decided to DNF the book after wasting too much time on it over the course of a few days. Not recommended.
I received a free copy of this book, but that did not affect my review.
Marquess of Aldridge has a well-earned scandalous reputation. But, what few people know is just what a good heart this complex man truly has, and just how much he loves Lady Charlotte Winderfield. They have a long but troubled history, and long held secrets have kept them apart. Is it even possible for them to expose their hearts and to recapture the future that has been denied them for years.
I have always liked Lord Aldridge. If he's your friend, he's your friend for life. He loves his family without reservation and is loyal to a fault. Sadly, he is also a flawed and complex character that has debauched a good portion of his life. I have also liked Charlotte. She's misunderstood and holds her sad secrets close out of both fear and shame. Finally, the Merry Marquis and Lady Charlotte's story has its moment in To Tame the Wild Rake by Jude Knight.
There are a lot of characters in this Regency romance. Which can be confusing if a reader is new to this lively family. Not to worry because this is a sweet standalone tale that will keep any romance-loving reader thoroughly entertained. It also reintroduces an archenemy of both the Winshire duchy and the Haverford duchy, which includes all the immediate and extended families.
As with all of the books in this series, the story is well written, the good characters are delightful and the villains are dangerous. There is plenty of action and suspense, and the ending is very happy, with a delightful surprise.
Content 411: This book contains a slight amount of mild swearing, but no vulgarities. It also contains some passionate kissing and passionate thoughts, as well as a mildly described sexually intimate scene.
Disclosure: I received a complementary copy of this book from the author via Booksprout. I am voluntarily submitting my honest review.

ARC Provided by Booksprout 🌱. This ebook was $3.99 on Amazon 📚 at the time of this review. Opinions expressed here are entirely my own fault!
The romance between Charlotte💃💋 and Aldridge🐺🍆⛲🔫🔪 needed a lot more development early in the story before their falling out. There was scant basis provided for Lord Aldridge's🐺🍆⛲🔫🔪 obsession with Charlotte💃💋.
The book also deals with the subject of child prostitution and exploitation of children and young women. There is also discussion of a rape, but no details. However , the circumstances could be a trigger for some readers.
This is a long book with several plot lines. I liked the character of Lord Aldridge🐺🍆⛲🔫🔪, because he had to be all things to everyone in his large family, yet he never got distracted from His pathway to the Dukedom.
That scoundrel, Lord Aldridge, heir to the Duke of Haverford, finally gets his own book. We have had many glimpses of him in previous books, glimpses not especially appealing to upright, moral young ladies looking for a secure love in a prospective groom. When he found the woman for him, he had to clean up his act, and hopes that she can appreciate the change he has made. Lady Charlotte has a secret that she thinks prevents her from ever marrying. When faced with sustained efforts by Aldridge for her attention and acceptance, her response is predictable— “I don’t think so”. Even her grandfather is willing to overlook her objections and endeavors to make a marriage contract for her. Amazingly, Aldridge respects her decision! Subsequent events threaten those Charlotte loves, and even Charlotte herself, and she finds herself relying on Aldridge, repeatedly, to come to her aid. Will her heart be softened towards him? We see familiar characters from recent stories, learning where life has taken them, and in many cases they play important roles in this story. Many threads are tied up for us, leaving me a bit sad to have come to the end of stories about some of my favorite characters! Perhaps they will be resurrected in future stories? One can only hope!

Anthony, the Marquis of Aldridge has made an appearance in many of Jude Knight's stories, not just this current series. We have seen him transform from the selfish, self centered Wicked Marquis to a man who cares deeply for his family, all of them, legitimate and illegitimate alike. Important in his transformation is his love for Lady Charlotte. Unfortunately, she has refused him because of an incident, not of her making, in her past. The incident has been mentioned in past books, here we learn more and exactly why she will never marry, especially Aldridge. The first third of the story was also told in the previous book in the series. However, this time it is told from Charlotte's and Anthony's perspective, interesting. Wharton, the dastardly villain in this series is present to stir up more trouble. Does he finally get what he deserves? I really love these characters, even when it is a little hard to like them sometimes. Of course, characters from the rest of the series pop up. A happy reunion of well loved characters. I do hope that the younger Winderfields will appear in future books with tales of their own.

Anthony Grenford, Marquis of Aldridge met Lady Charlotte Winderfield several years ago whilst he was at a house party, they formed a friendship, which has had its ups & downs. He was a renowned rake, she’s hiding a ruinous secret. They also love each other but Charlotte is determined to remain single. This is set in the same timeframe as book 3 but is shown from Anthony & Charlotte’s perspectives. Aldridge has featured in many of the author’s books & I fell for him several years ago so I eagerly awaited his story & I wasn't disappointed. He'd always been Aldridge the rakish marquis but in this book he became Anthony a man trying to win the woman he loved. I also loved Charlotte who had grown & made the most of her life after a devastating event. I loved the chemistry between them & was fully invested in their road to a HEA, which was strewn with obstacles. This book also tied up all loose ends but one - I look forward to that story! A very well written, well researched book with wonderful characters & a fast paced story. I absolutely adored the bonus epilogue, which left me with a smile on my face whilst wiping my eyes My honest review is for a special copy I voluntarily read
Anthony, the Marquise of Aldridge, became friends with Charlotte Winshire when she was a young lady. As she became a mature woman she steals his heart. Though Anthony has asked for her hand in marriage more than once, she still refuses him. He knows part of her reason, but the rest is a secret. Each time she refuses him, she breaks another piece of his heart. An old enemy of both of their families has returned and is spreading lies. It will take every member of their families, with some royal help, to stop it in it's tracks. This could be the push to get Charlotte to say "Yes." Most of the book concentrates on the relationship of Anthony and Charlotte. Add in a lot of interaction with their families. Then you have the evil villain who wants to destroy them. I think it would be nice to see a family tree. Keeping up with members of each family and their connections gets a little confusing, especially since I'm not reading the books back to back.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
After an intriguing start I started quickly. to lose track. There are exciting and fun parts in it, but often it is also impossible to follow. Partly that's because I lack prior knowledge, apparently a lot has already happened to these families in previous books. But I also find the writing style a bit chaotic and incoherent. Due to a dark secret, Charlotte doesn't want to marry Anthony or anyone else. Anthony has loved Charlotte for years and continues to make an effort. Charlotte needs his help and as a result secrets and intrigues start to surface and she eventually gives in to the love she feels for Anthony. If you have followed the stories about this family it might be a nice book, but I did not like the writing style to read and the content did not convince me to read the books.

To Tame the Wild Rake: The Saint and the Sinner (The Return of the Mountain King Book 4) by Jude Knight
This is a historical romance novel and this story is set in the early 1800's. This book tells the story of Charlotte (Sarah's twin sister) and Aldridge, who have known each other since the summer when she turned 16. For readers who are familiar with the series and have read book 3 which is the story of Sarah and Nate, some part of their story involved Charlotte and Aldridge. This book is set in the same time frame so parts of the story are familiar but told from Charlotte and Aldridge's point of view. Along the way, we catch up with other characters from previous books and get updates on their domestic situation. I liked how this story evolved and how in every book, we the readers get updates. It is like catching up with friends. This book will read as a stand-alone book, but this reader believes that the amount of characters may make it confusing for readers who are not familiar with the background story. I would suggest you read the books in order and enjoy the journey. At the end of this book, the author kindly put together a list of books where Aldridge made an appearance. I liked Charlotte and Aldridge story. 4 stars. I am hoping that at some point we get to read Jessica's story.
This is my first ebook by this author, so I have read none of the earlier books in this series. The storyline pulled me in from the first pages and kept me riveted until the final pages. A reviewer mentioned that there wasn't much character development in this particular book to which I would agree, but I don't usually jump into the final book either. I was able to put things and circumstances into a good enough perspective that I did enjoy the story and will definitely seek more books by Jude Knight. There were several different "incidents" playing out within the main story that added a little mystery and intrigue to the overall storyline.
I received an ARC copy of this book. This is my voluntary and honest review.
I have long liked Aldridge and wondered what his backstory was. He has been a bit of an aloof snob to those who are not his friends or family. He is very protective of his mother, knowing his father is a beast, a beast he does not want to become. It was lovely to see him finally reach his HEA with Charlotte, a young woman who knows he is not what the ton sees. If you have read all the books of this series, do not question your memory or think it is a deja vu you are experiencing. As this story runs parallel to that of Sarah and Nate, To Claim the Long-Lost Lover, there is a bit of repetition in the story line, but from the POV of Charlotte and Aldridge.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I Loved it! Aldridge final finds his happy ever after in To Tame the Wild Rake. Aldridge has loved Charlotte for eight years but has been unable to get her to agree to becoming his wife. Charlotte has a deep dark secret she is afraid to tell Aldridge and if she tells him she might loose him forever. It's an action-packed rollercoaster ride as a diabolical enemy, from both their pasts, spins a web of revenge and mayhem. Jude Knight is not afraid to take you out of your comfort zone with characters that are well thought out and come off the pages and pull you into their tale. It's a well written romance that brims with tension-building twists and turns, remarkable emotions, sensual passion, and with one fantastic plot that brings this read together perfectly!
I’ve been waiting for Aldridge’s story and I thoroughly enjoyed it. This overlapped slightly with the previous story, although told from a different point of view. Charlotte and Aldridge had met many years before. However, due to an incident in her past, Charlotte had decide not to marry. She was very close to her twin, Sarah, but now that Sarah was with her husband, Charlotte, often felt left out. Aldridge needed to find a wife and had loved Charlotte for some time. Would she change her mind? I loved how understanding Aldridge was with Charlotte. Aldridge had much on his plate, with his father and an old enemy of his, out to cause trouble. This story moves along at a good pace with action and passionate moments. I received a copy via Booksprout and have voluntarily reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own. However I did preorder my own copy.
I have liked Aldridge since I first read about the Merry Marquis in A Baron for Becky. He is, or was, a rake of the highest order. Then he fell in love with Lady Charlotte Winderfield. Now he is a reformed rake trying to win the woman he loves. Charlotte loves Anthony (the Marquis), but has a painful secret that makes her determined not to marry. They are friends, which is a good foundation. He always comes when she needs help. They will make a terrific couple once they have worked through the obstacles facing them. I love the way their relationship develops. To go along with the romance, this story is filled with action and danger, thanks mostly to their mutual and obsessed enemy Stanley Wharton. The story and the series come to a happy ending, and the epilogues are wonderful. There is one more story to tell, and I can’t wait.
I received an ARC of this book via BookSprout. My review is voluntary.
Hurray, finally a happy ending for Aldridge! I really enjoyed this book. It does run a little parrallel to the previous one in the series, To Claim a Long-Lost Lover. So, if you have read it, you will notice the repetition from a different viewpoint. If you have not read, you should, as you will thoroughly enjoy it. This story has action, excitement and steam. It answers quite a few questions, brings in characters from previous tales and has a very satisfying ending.

The beast is no more. After an even in Charlotte's life she is determined not to marry but fate may have other ideas. Aldridge is a character that you may know if you have read the other books in the series he is a reformed rake. When things occur Charlotte turns to Aldridge for help. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and the author's way of writing her characters. This is a book well worth having in anyone library. I hope you check it out. I did receive a free copy of this book from Booksprout and voluntarily chose to review it.
I’ve always loved a reformed rake’s story. When they fall, they fall hard. Lord Aldridge has adored Lady Charlotte (Cherry) since she was a young teen. When a tragic rape befalls her, she is fearful of a man’s touch and vows to never marry. She turns down his suit time and time again. Years later she seeks his help as they are both involved in an evil doers heinous plot to bring their dukedoms down. Many obstacles in their road to a HEA. It was a good storyline but I had a difficult time keeping so many names and titles straight.
Anthony was quite the rake and I wondered if he would ever settle down with one woman and be faithful. Even knowing that she might not be able to have children her grandfather tries to force them to marry. Charlotte was treated horribly by her family, blamed because her brother attacked her and caused her to contract a disease that affected her menstrual cycle. So many conspire against them including his mother and an unstable enemy who has been creating havoc since the beginning of the series. I loved the epilogues.
Lord Anthony was in love with lady Charlotte for eight years even though she had sworn she would never marry. An enemy of Anthony is back in town and has promised himself revenge against Anthony and his whole family including lady Charlotte. A failed kidnapping attempted against lady Charlotte and lies spread regarding both families makes this a good read.7

I loved this Regency romance with great characters, romance and intrigue. I have read other books about these two dynasties and enjoyed them all. This featured the Marquis who has loved Charlotte, one of the twins from his rival's family. She loved him, but always turned him down due to an incident that occur her as a teenager. This story has lots of intrigue with a great. I enjoyed the two Epilogues.
I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. I have read the twin's story and while they overlapped I didn't feel like it was the same story. I like Aldridge and I love him with Charlotte! The mystery of Wharton is good and I enjoyed the lengths the families went to to stop him and his evil ways. I also enjoyed the lengths the ladies went to to get to Aldridge! So scandalous for that time! Really good romance! I received a free copy of this book via Booksprout and am voluntarily leaving a review.
I'm kinda on the fence with this one. It's well told and the pace and feel are along he same lines of previous stories but I found it harder to get into. I was not fond of either main character. The first few chapters felt repetitive. It wasn't until well into the story that anything new came out. Then I was able to get into the story. But then it ended. Kind of disappointing.
He a notorious womanizer and she a devoted spinster or are they??? That is the question that one must ferret out! It is a fun time tracking down their and their extended families history. All well written with a real villain and some great and not so great friends. I have enjoyed this entire series. Try it, and see for yourself!
