When you can’t find the perfect date for the holidays you hire him!
Hotshot lawyer Rebecca Madison is dreading the annual family Thanksgiving break where the question on everyone’s lips will be ‘why are you still single?’.
When it comes to her career, she’s the best of the best, hired for her take-no-prisoners approach and sharp instincts. But when it comes to her love life…well, she hasn’t found the loophole for happy ever after yet.
So when she has a one night stand with a gorgeous stranger she meets in a bar, Becca decides to do what she does best: make a deal with Mr One Night to be her Mr Right (just for the holidays).
With an iron-clad contract setting out the terms for their fake relationship, Becca has one important point. Clause 1.a. No kissing, no sex (as mind-blowing as it was), and absolutely no emotional attachment!
But five thousand miles from home and spending every waking moment in the company of a man who makes her feel things she’s never felt before, just how easy will it be for Becca to stick to her own rules…
This book reminds me of The Stranger in Seat 8B; a one night stand turned insta love, reversed grumpy-sunshine and lots of smut.
Rebecca, an uptight workaholic lawyer and Hudson, a happy-go-lucky furniture designer have an amazing one night stand. She runs away in the morning and expects to never see him again, but then one thing leads to another and… she, uhm, draws a freakin’ contract (!!!) and hires him as a fake boyfriend for her sister’s engagement party. There’s a clause about sex (not allowed) and one about kisses (special regulations apply) but then all Rebecca’s pathetic efforts to keep things professional go down the drain because she obvs can’t keep her hands off of him.
Hudson is a man written by a woman, so ya know; attentive, understanding, loving and hot af. Rebecca tested my patience a few times, but I was mostly sorry for her; such a smart girl, how come is she so dumb?!
The constant need for contracts was slightly cringy, but the title kinda’ warns you about it so I’ll shut up.
All in all it’s a quick and easy read if you’re into insta love and open door romance. Maybe nothing special but entertaining enough.

This was a case of lust at first sight. And normally that botheres me. But not in this instance. What normally bothers me is when porn tries to disguise itself as romance. But this wasn't a romance novel. This was just porn. And I enjoyed it. Yes, there was hardly any plot. Yes, the characters were not that great. Yes, the romance was mostly replaced by carnal pleasures. But because this book didn't try to be anything but porn, I was okay with it. I'll probably not remember it, but it was enjoyable while it lasted.

If Cassie keeps writing like this, she will be a NY Times Bestseller in no time! Cassie’s debut novel Love Under Contract has everything you want in a romantic comedy: quirky lovable characters, grumpy vs. sunshine storyline with a fake relationship twist, smoking hot scenes, fantastic banter, and a happily ever after that leaves you wanting more.
Reading the summary on the back of the book, you believe you have a fairly good idea how the story is going to unfold. To my surprise, this book isn't what you expect it to be. For starters, the premise is satisfied about halfway through, leaving the reader flabbergasted on what else could possibly happen. As you continue to read, you find yourself drawn further into the book, deeper into the characters, and so invested that you reach the end before you realize you haven't let out a full exhale in quite some time (well...maybe when you were yelling "WHY?! What is wrong with you" to a particular character at certain moments).
What I liked about this book: I absolutely LOVED Rebecca. While some readers may see her character and think “no one can be that determined, that focused, that cold”, I know her way of thinking, her way of logically arguing a scenario, overanalyzing, her drive, and stubbornness. She is intent on making her mark and standing strong in a male dominated world. Her "take no prisoners" attitude strikes a cord with any woman in today’s society that is called frigid, cold, heartless, or worse when she is focused her achievements, goals, and prospects. What I loved about her character is that while she was constantly determined to argue against the world, her own internal logic played devil’s advocate, catching her in moments of weakness, allowing the opinions of others to seep in, coercing her inner voice, cracking the facade and giving her new perspectives.
I absolutely ADORED Hudson! Cassie literally took every single quality of Rebecca and did a 180. His ability to get under her skin and repel the attitude/approach that has worked so successfully for her was endearing. He really was the perfect match for Rebecca. I mean honestly, what do you do when you are with someone who takes themselves so seriously, do the exact opposite! He knew how to push her buttons, how to bring her out of her shell, how to make her feel as if she was in charge, in control, winning even when he was better at the game than she was. Their back and forth banter kept me in stitches.
This book was truly a surprise and such a pleasant read. I didn’t think I would love it as much as I did. I will warn that it starts out fast so don’t think you are just going to casually slip into a relaxing read with a slow build. It grabs you, holds on tight, and takes you for one heck of a ride, leaving you with a satisfying smile plastered on your face and desire to read whatever Cassie writes next.
Rebecca (33) & Hudson What to expect: ~ single 1st person POV, present tense ~ London & NYC ~ Steamage right outta the gate! ~ fake relationship ~ reverse grump/sunshine ~ a lovable MMC
3.5/5 ⭐️! This was a really cute audiobook. I enjoyed how patient Hudson was with Becca. He was so caring and sweet. Towards the end Becca started to annoy me a little bit with how she was acting towards Hudson but I get why she did that. This book was also a lot spicer than I thought it was going to be.. for some reason, I thought it was going to be a closed door romance but I’m glad it wasn’t. Overall I enjoyed the story as a whole.

Love Under Contract ⭐️⭐️⭐️.5 Genre: Romance Format: Kindle eBook Date Published: 11/1/22 Author: Cassie Connor Publisher: HarperCollins Pages: 301 GR: 4.09
I requested a digital advanced readers copy from NetGalley and HarperCollins and providing my opinion voluntarily and unbiased.
My Thoughts: This was a grumpy vs. sunshine trope, while they are not my favorite, I really loved how the author put it together. I loved the contract angle of this story being a paralegal myself. Rebecca comes off as cold and determined, however, what is really under that tough exterior is that she is stubborn, driven, and motivated, which I could connect to. Hudson was the complete opposite. He could get under her skin like no one has been able to do before, how to pull her from the cold exterior, and just matched her perfectly, as in oil and water matching. The banter was absolutely amazing. For a debut novel, I felt this was a strong start and Cassie Connor will be an author to watch for great things. While this is a romance novel, there was also focus on family, from both Rebecca and Hudson’s perspectives, which I adored. This story has some great messages on relationships and how the working world functions. The characters were well developed with depth, witty banter, mad chemistry, and evolved so well. The author’s writing style was complex, funny, passionate, and kept me engaged. This book is already out and I highly suggest picking it up!
I really loved this fake dating romance between a straight-laced contract lawyer and the woodworker one night stand she convinces to be her boyfriend for the holidays. Perfect for fans of the Wedding date movie, this was a British romance with some deliciously steamy scenes and great on audio. A surprise delight I can't recommend this one enough!!
This one was cute. Lawyer needs a fake date to her holiday family plans and takes her one night stand. (She needs a fake date b/c her sister is engaged to her ex.)
The only thing- who the FUDGE was the random girl he kissed at the end?!?!? Why the FUDGE was this not addressed AT ALL?!?! For that ^^ I almost knocked it down a star ⭐️ b/c I was so irritated, but I left it at 3. 😑
You can't make me like the whole book and then end it with me being pissed off. Now I'm irritated she was just OK with it after he told her he loved her. 🤨😬

I haven’t read a really good book in a while and I was hoping that early smut scene would set the stage for a really good book because wow
God, all the smut was great. Some of the best I’ve read.
I enjoyed reading Rebecca and Hudson’s banter and chemistry. They were so much fun together in their fake relationship. I love how both of them got to play with the guise of the fake relationship since I usually read books where only one person needs the fake relationship. I loved all the family moments. I wish we got more of them getting to know each other but I’m content with how everything played out.
Love Under Contract is a super fun romance. I didn't know it was a debut, so it's even more wonderful with this in mind. It's a fake-dating trope.
Rebecca is a high flying attorney, destined to make partner but when her sister is getting married she is presented with a problem, she needs a date. It's imperative she has one because her sister is marrying her ex ! So Rebecca has an idea and connects with Hudson who we meet early in the book via their one night stand. Rebecca overhears Hudson has some financial struggles so she offers to pay him to be her date for her sister's wedding. It's a four day stint in New York.
What Rebecca fails to consider in her contract is the after ...... that after New York Hudson needs Rebecca to accompany him to his family Christmas, because his mother has seen pictures of them on social media in New York and thinks they're in love. Oops.
I admit to reading this twice now. Once when I was approved for the book on Netgalley in November 2022, and forgot to write my review, and then again this past January when I thought I'd write my review (again). Best laid plans .....
Hudson was the kicker for me, just a great character in terms of how his character and relationships are written. Rebecca had some growing to do, and realising and understanding how other people in the world saw her - not that she needed to change, but acknowledging what she wanted, what was important, and how she could achieve it without losing her sense of self.
I can't help but recommend this book. It's well worth picking up.
When you are so engrossed in a story, you lose track of time and have to tell yourself to go to bed at 2AM, you know you have found an absolutely fabulous read! Love Under Contract almost had me up all night...but I did have to get a few hours of sleep...
Rebecca Madison is a lawyer that holds her own with the "old guard." She is focused on her career and does not need a man, but when her younger sister announces she is engaged to her ex and is invited to the States for a Thanksgiving/engagement celebration, Rebecca is determined to not be the butt of any joke. After a one night stand that she cannot get out of her head, she proposes a "fake" relationship to Hudson, and off they fly to New York to fool her family. Except, who is really being fooled?
There is so much steamy chemistry in Becca and Hudson's story. Family is also a strong storyline, from both characters' point of view. The Strong Family is so loveable and Rebecca's family may need some help. There are great lessons to be learned in relationships and even the working world. There's a little bit of everything in this delightful romantic comedy.
Thank you to HarperCollins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for the digital ARC. The opinions expressed are my own.

This book follows the story of Rebecca, a successful lawyer in London, and Hudson, a furniture designer after their one night stand. Unwillingly to go alone to her family thanksgiving in New York, she ends up hiring Hudson as a fake date for the holidays.
I’ve had some small issues with the book, but mostly I thought it was the perfect holiday season rom com until approximately 80% mark. After that, I lost my patience with the FMC as she has the emotional intelligence of a potato, and no matter how many epiphanies she had, she would continue her behaviour and never act on those.
What I liked about the book: - Strong and professionally driven female character, albeit with no emotional intelligence - Male cinnamon roll - Holidays both in New York and UK - Interesting supporting characters
What I Think it could have been done better: - I’ve felt there were too many mentions to clothes and luxury brands and I don’t relate to that - I would have liked to see more emotional growth of Rebecca throughout the story - The story is mainly centred on Rebecca and we end up knowing almost nothing personal about Hudson. This is unfortunate as it discredits their relationship and makes the story more about sex than romance.
Overall it was an entertaining and fast paced read, ideal to enter into the holiday spirit.
I requested this book over NetGalley and One More Chapter approved the request. The thing that attracted me to the book first was the cover and then when I read the synopsis, I so wanted to read it because fake dating to real love has always been one of my favourite romance tropes.
I wish I had clicked some photos but I was so engrossed in the story that I just could not bring myself to put the kindle down and go for the photo session. But, as soon as I had finished reading it, I wanted to share what I thought about it.
First, the characters.
Our female lead, Rebecca, is fierce in what she does and has high expectations of herself as she works towards achieving her ambitions. The pull to this character for me lies in the similarities between Rebecca and I. Like me, she is ambitious and had made her career her thing. Her top most priority. That does not mean that she does not take anything else into account or something but she is an exacting master.
Our male lead, Hudson, on the other hand has a lot of similarities with my husband. Like my husband is one the very few people who are not intimated by me or my ambitions, Hudson is not intimated by his Beccs’ high ambitions. He is supportive of her goals in life, standing by her as she goes up the corporate ladder while he keeps to his own pace and it is never a competition.
I love the fact that there is a reversal in the character psyche and the heroine is a commitment phobe rather than the hero. The hero is all fun and ready to take the plunge but the woman here is the cynic. I am not saying that it is a good thing to be a cynic but it plays very well into the story.
For the fake dating trope, it was done very well. The hiring of the contractor was very professionally done.😂
I have read many a fake dating romance but this was a new angle that I read in this one. A contract and the legality of it all made it hilarious and the same kept tying the characters in knots because what if they did something that was not part of the contract and that they were in breach of the contract.
The story is paced a little faster than moderate and the characters – even other than the leads – make their place and hold it because they are all integral to not just the development of the story but the development of the main characters as well. All of them help the two realise what they will miss out on if they let each other go.
It had been some time since I had read a romance that I could characterise as hot but this one was off the charts. The hotness and sexiness of those scenes did not make me feel that those scenes were written just for the sake of including sex scenes or to blacken the page. The scenes fit in with the overall story and kind of helped in character development as well.
Lastly, I’d like to say that while I am not a fan of stories written in the first person narrative but this story being written in first person narrative was not a deterrent for me at all. In fact, the moment I started reading it, I had a hard time putting my kindle down.
A 5 star book that I highly recommend to all romance readers.
Thank you to Harper Collins UK, One More Chapter, and NetGalley for sending me this ARC in exchange for an honest review!
Under Contract is the perfect Christmas rom-com with spicy Hallmark vibes. It has some of my favorite tropes such as fake dating and the one bed trope. It even has grumpy/sunshine where Rebecca is the grump and Hudson is the sunshine character. You also get to experience Christmas in New York City as well as the UK which is really magical.
Rebecca is known as an uptight lawyer who prioritizes her career over relationships. Throughout the book we get to see her loosen up a bit and find who she really is instead of just who she feels like she has to be. I really enjoyed watching her come out of her shell and my only issue is that it too her a very long time to have the emotional intelligence Hudson deserved. That would be my only complaint though because I honestly really loved Rebecca and Hudson together.
Hudson is definitely the cinnamon roll character and someone who I would compare to a golden retriever. He becomes friends with everyone he meets and is always making people smile and laugh. He’s incredibly sweet and treats Rebecca so well plus he was great in all of the spicy scenes too. This book had more spice than I was expecting but I loved it!
I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who loves Hallmark movies, Christmas, and rom-coms with spice!
Looking for some steamy Brit chick lit? This! Love Under Contract is pacey, swoony and HOT. Cassie Connor gives us a cracking winter read with a buttoned-up heroine and a super dreamy hero. Rebecca and Hudson had me smitten from the off. There’s Fake Dating, Grumpy/Sunshine, Holiday tropes with London, New York and Cotswold backdrops – what’s not to like? Loved it.
For lovers of the wedding date! A sweet rom com. Our buttoned up Mc meets carpenter Hudson who is need of some help of his own. They sign a contract for a weekend to play pretend at her sisters engagement party what could go wrong. They find themselves drawn repeatedly into each other's lives and how long can these opposites resist the obvious attraction between them.

Listened to the audiobook for this one and really enjoyed it - I think it’s a case of the narrator doing such a great job I enjoy the book than I might have otherwise.
I really liked both main characters in this one! The premise of the story isn’t anything revolutionary but I thought the characters were well written so I had a fun time. It was definitely insta lust to quite fast love but I didn’t really mind in this one?
I will say that I found it strange that something happened towards the end to create conflict yet it was never brought up again? To me it was a pretty significant thing that just was never addressed. It seemed a bit half done/rushed in that regard.
