Monster Between the Sheets

Something Wicked This Way Comes

Rate this book
I live in Screaming Woods, where the monsters dwell. Even so, finding love isn't easy when you're green...and have a reputation for being obsessed with sparkly shoes.
I'd given up on love until my knight literally rode in on a big, black horse. For once, someone saw me as more than the Wicked Witch...maybe it was because I could see right through his head at night.

I’m a lover of all things books, a hopeless romantic, and have always had a passion for writing. Between being a sappy romantic, my love of an HEA, my crazy imagination, and ok, let’s be real, my dirty mind, I fell easily into writing romance.
I’m a huge baseball fan and yet, a complete girly, girl. I’m an obsessive reader and have a slight (hahaha! Slight? Yeah, right) addiction to signed books.
I’m married to my very own book boyfriend, an alpha male with a sexy, sweet side. He is the best inspiration, my biggest supporter and the love of my life. He is also incredibly patient and understanding about the fact that he has to fight the voices in my head for my attention.
I hope you enjoy reading my books as much as I enjoyed writing them!

Love that there's a headless horseman as the hero... I wish it was a little more developed in terms of playing that angle up, but this was generally short & fun

**2.4/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

Last novella in this series, the prologue presents Maggie and Eli on the night of the incident, then a jump forward twenty years in the future. Eli is the bestfriend of Maggie's brother, and being older, has always looked out for her. At that Halloween party, they finally ask each other out on a date, only for it to never happen. After drinking the punch, both of them transformed; Eli becoming a headless man (at night) and Maggie becoming the Wicked Witch of the West, green skin and all. Eli's insecurities were too great to ever face Maggie again, and she misunderstood him walking away for him rejecting her.

Oh boy did I not like what I read. This was one of the hardest novellas I've read in this series and it technically wasn't even that bad when I think about it. I just couldn't get into it. There were too many references of Wizard of Oz, and I rolled my eyes at the clichés and at the empty conversations. Something that triggered me was the timeline of the story. Initially, in the prologue, Maggie is 18 and Eli is already 32. Then the story jumps forward TWENTY YEARS later. These two are GROWN adults acting like teenagers and I didn't like their dynamic.

Many moments were cliché, like the waitress at a restaurant, hitting on the hero while the heroine is clearly on a date with him, cause you know, every waitress do that. Eli's father being a total assbutt, the drama at the end, the corny conversations, the cheesy 'Baby' Eli said every two paragraphs, the fact Maggie had powers and used them to threaten people who made her angry (girl, get over yourself, you're a witch, we get it)...They were not likable to me, at all.

Couldn’t see how any woman would be interested in me for more than a daylight fling. Which was why I stayed away from Maggie. I knew she hadn’t escaped the catastrophe, that she’d turned green and had dark magic living inside her. But she wasn’t invisible, permanently, or otherwise.-Eli

This hero was so dumb. They both were already pining for each other before the incident. If anything, they would probably have become even closer, since they were both in that situation. The reason for them to be separated for SO long was so unbelievably silly that it just took me out of it. And also, cherry on top, the heroine forgave him right away, like his reasons made any sense. Bleh. I'm done lol.

Would I recommend this novella? I don't think this story was for me at all. But I'm glad I pushed through and I'm now done with this series who really ended up being pretty average in a disappointing way. This one isn't one I would recommend overall, but I guess if you have time, you might enjoy it.

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

So far I've liked this one the least in the series (I read them out of order) but still an enjoyable kind of night time read.

Rating: 3.5 / 5 (rounded down)

After having read Silas's story in Watt and Bothered, I was, of course, curious to read about his sister Maggie's story as well.

That's exactly what we get in this book, with a combination of the Headless Horseman as our hero--i.e. Eli Crane.

There's a lot of fun references from both the Headless Horseman story and from Maggie's own history as the Wicked Witch of the West, and of course some fun bedroom times as well!

I'm still rating this book just 3 stars out of five though, because in good conscience I can't rate it higher.

Cause...well....see, as I've noted in my highlights repeatedly, Maggie and Eli could technically have been a thing before the whole "monsterization of everything" thing happened, except that for twenty years, they were kept apart by.... It just felt like a stupid and convoluted and WAAAAYYY exaggerated reason, and therefore took some of the enjoyment away from me from what's otherwise a lovely story.

Take it all in all for what it is...yup.

Anyway, still a nice little read, cute in its own way, and a nice return to the world of Screaming Woods.

I wasn't surprised by the father. Eli got a bit arrogant thinking everything could go smoothly. The challenge was fun, and the ending was cute.

Wonderfully intertwined

Okay can I just say I really liked this book. The play on the "Wizard of Oz" tale and all the old stories. How Elle intertwined that and the other story (not going to say it so you have to read it) so masterfully. It was really brillant. This was the last book in the series and honestly, it was the perfect ending to it.

Great!

Eli and Maggie are a great couple! Something Wicked This Way Comes is filled with heat, chemistry and romance! A wonderful second book in the series. I feel that this is a tad bit better than Watt and Bothered

Short, fun monster romance with a fairy tale twist! The Wicked Witch of the West finally gets to tell her side of the story! I enjoyed the audiobook!

confusing

I’M NOT DONE YET BUT I HAD TO ASK FIRST:

Just finished Silas’s book (where Juniper is 20) and jumped into this one. This book mentions that Maggie was 18 and had her store when the “accident” happened. Now we are at 20yrs later so that makes Maggie 38? And Silas is supposed to be 12yrs older than Maggie so he’s 50? Assuming Eli is the same age as Silas he would be 50 as well? But somehow I get the impression Eli is 2yrs older than Silas so he’s supposed to be 52? Are we supposed to picture them to be salt and pepper silver fox hunks (genuine question, no offense to anyone)? Also does that mean that Silas’s age gap with Juniper is 30? Am I getting this wrong?

Would really appreciate an answer cos this is confusing me.

This is an OK paranormal romance, but I did have a few issues with it. It gets 2.5 stars from me, rounded up to 3 stars.

First, it was too short to have as much character development as I like. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Maggie and Eli.

Second, I had a bit of a problem with the couple's age difference at first. If I understood the story, Eli was around 30 and Maggie was only 18 in the beginning of the story. When they actually got together 20 years later, though, that age difference wasn't really a problem.

Finally, I really felt like the couple was more in lust than in love, especially at first. They were definitely in lust, but they just hadn't spent enough time together to be in love so quickly. I did believe they were actually in love later, but their relationship definitely started with lust.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Interesting "monsters" and more than just the romance plot going on. Once we made the time jump I was more into the story, but it was a little squicky when you do the mental math and realize that if Eli and Silas are the same age, and Silas was 12 when Maggie was born, that means when Eli is all excited about her turning 18 he is already a grown-ass man of THIRTY, 3-0, and that's just fucking creepy. Sorry, that big an age gap doesn't work for me when the younger party can't even legally drink or rent a car yet. Also, what the hell kind of 18 year old has the money or interest to open a little gift shop in their town, and then pivot the business when their life is upended? Having Maggie physically and mentally mature in the intervening years while more-or-less freezing Eli at 30ish made the romance more palatable for me.

Also, this book confirms that this town is set in New York state, which does not have any wild wolf packs OR cougars, so WTF knows which alternate version of NY the Beast book takes place in. Hmph!

It's Silas's sister's turn to find love and Maggie is hooking up with the headless horseman. Kind of. I mean, Eli IS headless part of the time and he does ride a horse, but he's not THE headless horseman. He's just a headless guy (after dark) who happens to ride a horse.

Anywho. Eli and Maggie. After the situation that changed them happened twenty years ago, the two of them went their separate ways. Not by choice, really, but rather because they were both dealing with their new circumstances. As it also turns out, neither wanted to bear being rejected if the other couldn't handle the new them.

So they kept apart and neither was happy. Then their paths cross and all those pre-monster feelings were still there no matter whether they had a head or what color their skin was. Which is excellent because this is a romance book. Soon the two are hooking up and knocking it out of the park. So to speak.

Twenty years ago, the town had a Halloween party that changed everyone's life. Some turned into literal monsters, and others were filled with dark magic.
Eli lost his head. But only at night. He was turned into the Headless Horseman. Maggie was turned into a green-skinned dark magic witch. They spent the last 20 years not speaking due to his ignorance. When his abusive father buys a potion from Maggie, it sets off a chain of events that neither are prepared for.

Monsters falling in love with humans is the basis of this series. It appears that most characters will be either v-card holders or have been celibate for several years. So far, it's been meet and fall into bed very soon after. Typical insta-love timeline, but it works well with this series. There is a second generation for this universe.

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

One fateful Halloween the residents of a small town were all turned into monsters. Maggie was now a witch green skin and all. She had learned to accept her fate and was living a good life, even if it was lonely. Before the incident she had been crushing on Eli Crane but he left right before the incident and never returned, she figured he didn’t want to be with a witch. The two meet again when a gust of wind knocks Maggie off her broom. I liked how the two feel back into easy banter and there were no hard feelings from Maggie regarding Eli not coming back to her. Eli still loves Maggie but his curse is not as outwardly evident at least during the day. It’s evening when his curse begins, his head disappears. He has been turned into the headless horseman. Maggie doesn’t care, she still has feelings for Eli and the two start to date. The only bad thing in their relationship is Eli’s dad, he’s a greedy, lazy, good for nothing drunk who squandered the money from the family stables. But Eli had a plan to buy him out and be with Maggie. When the dad shows up to confront Eli it’s Maggie that get seriously hurt by him. He’s dealt with by the police and Maggie is rushed to the hospital. There they find out she’s pregnant. Epilogue with the happily living in Screaming Woods

Twist on the Wicked Witch

Another version of the Wicked Witch and how the normals always change the story. Mags is sassy and wonderful and has always loved Eli Crane, the man who becomes the Headless Horseman of Sleepy Hollow at the same event that turned her green. She didn’t know he had turned too just like most of the town and he didn’t have the faith she’d still want him after his mishap (or mishead as the case may be). The banter and the chemistry were just off the charts. Loved it! Wasn’t as thrilled with her brother’s story ( book 1) but I still loved Elle’s writing so I’m giving each a sporting chance. Love they are kindle unlimited!

A fantastic second chance love story!

I absolutely loved the characters in this story! They were so positive natured and still sweetly innocent that you can't help but love them. Eli is the headless horseman and Maggie was the wicked witch of the west, she was the love of his life but he stayed away from her. For reasons. But when he comes back into her life, it's with a whole new attitude. I loved how Maggie had all the power but still kept her lovely vibe going! This is a feel good second chance love story that was a delight to read!

Book 2-

I’m honestly not sure if this was a better book than book one or not. I would say all the issues I had with Watt and Bothered showed up again in this book but made slightly worse because you understand just how old these characters are. The “sexy” moments were rather ridiculous so I couldn’t get into them. The dialogue once again sounded very YA. I really wanted to like this book, but I couldn’t try pretend I did. The two stars are for the potential that was wasted. I’m hoping the next book in the series is better. 🫤

Eli & Maggie

While I devoured all the other books in the Screaming Woods series, I portioned this one out and savored it. I didn’t want the series to be over! I loved all the glimpses of Maggie in the other books but I absolutely adored her in her own book. An absolutely magical tale all the way around between Maggie and Eli’s personal stories and their story together. And hot? So much steam! I loved it!

Witch's Wish

Maggie is tired of dates that only see.her as a green skinned witch, she really wishes her first love Eli didn't disappear on the night of the great change in Screaming Woods. Eli disappeared those years ago when he became the Headless Horseman each night not feeling good enough for Maggie but when he runs into her again he knows she can't give her up again in this sweet read.

Eli & Maggie

Swoon!! I adore this story! Eli & Maggie are spicy & sweet & full of love!! Perfect Halloween read, but perfect quick read for any time of year, really. There's banter & drama & a great epilogue!

And the tweaks to the Wicked Witch of the West & Headless Horseman back stories are clever. I liked how that was done a lot!

WOW!! So Good!!

Great Halloween Read!

Another great addition to the series. In this one you meet Maggie and Eli. Eli had his eyes set on Maggie before the Halloween party 20 years ago that changed everything. He stayed away for so long thinking that she couldn’t love a monster like him. But a fateful meeting in the forest changes everything for them. Suuuuch a good read!

I loved this one!

I'll start by saying that Wicked is probably my favorite musical, so to read one of the volumes of this series with a character inspired by that was absolutely awesome! I loved Maggie and Eli. These two were so sweet together, and their storyline was great. I really enjoyed this entire series, but this was definitely one of my favorites!
