Can the curvy redhead with a dark past teach the growly ogre with a broken soul that even "monsters" deserve to be loved?

Gregor
I've been alone for a long time, living a solitary existence in my cabin in the woods. My dream of falling in love and raising a family turned to ashes following the accident that turned me into a monster. What woman would want a future with a hideous beast?
But when I rescue a beautiful redhead in peril, my heart and soul scream: mine. Arya's emerald-green eyes and delectable curves spark desires I thought were long dead. She doesn't look at me with fear or disgust, and her soft touch makes me believe we're the only two beings in the world.
Arya is my salvation, but I know we can never be together. A woman as loving and innocent as Arya deserves far better than a monster like me.

Arya
When I accidentally kill a man, I flee into Screaming Woods. But I never expected to escape one monster only to run head-first into another. I’m alone, injured, and desperate, and I've heard the terrifying rumors of the beastly beings that live in these woods. Never in my wildest dreams did I imagine my rescuer would be ... an ogre?
Despite his growly demeanor, Gregor carries me protectively to his cabin in the woods and gently tends to my injuries. Our bond extends beyond physical appearances, but can I convince my possessive ogre that his heart is pure, and the real monsters are those still hunting me down?

Ogre My Dead Body is a short, steamy romance between a woman and an ogre male and comes with the guaranteed HEA you've come to expect from Violet Rae.
Content Warning: A hot AF ogre gives his curvy human soulmate some big monster lovin'.

Three stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️

This was a cute read, perfect for Halloween! Arya was raised in a commune where her father was the leader. She was promised to marry a man named Todd, her father’s second in command. On the day that she’s to marry him she tries to escape and in return gets attacked and almost raped.

Gregor saves her just in time. He was transformed into an ogre many years ago after being poisoned. He’s led a solitary life in the woods far away from everyone… but when he sees Arya, something clicks. He wants her.

There’s some drama and action in this little novella as well as some steam! I enjoyed reading it. It was a solid three star read for me.

safety:
virgin heroine
celibate hero
attempted rape by OM (gets saved by H)
no cheating/sharing

**2.7/5 stars**

This series has the same premise for every novella. After a dreadful Halloween night, the people who drank a special punch started morphing into monsters and they now all live in a little town called Screaming Woods.

I honestly don't know how I feel about this one. I was intrigued by the beginning where the heroine, Arya was running away from her father and Todd, the man she was supposed to marry. Escaping the commune she was raised into. Until, she was saved by Gregor, a man who became an ogre after drinking the special punch twenty years ago. But of course, there had to be something to get annoyed at: the pacing. The author had the right idea by making Arya fear and run away from her savior who's a monster at first sight. My question is, how can this girl realistically go from being frightened and lost to being trusting and horny within hours? The author definitely understands the concept of pacing since she did a couple time jumps after Gregor and Arya experienced intimacy with one another. So why not put one little time jump in between their first meeting and their first kiss? I mean, wouldn't it have been better to make Gregor take care of her first and earn her trust within a few days? Showing her she has nothing to fear from him? That he is different from her father and her fiancé? I find it so upsetting when authors take shortcuts to build premature chemistry. It personally irks me, so much so that I become cold towards what I'm reading and just want to be over with it.

Anyway, Gregor was protective and sweet towards Arya. His story didn't feel like it really fitted with the prompt of this series. Not that it was out of context completely but it did seem to me like it was a bit outside of the track. The fact that he was russian and his using of the phrase 'moy serdtse' (my heart) was a bit random. I didn't swoon over that as it felt a bit forced.

I approach her cautiously, and for the first time, I am able to lay my eyes on her fully. She is . . . beautiful. Round face, pearlescent skin, and a small nose sitting pertly above full lips. And that fiery hair—my thick fingers itch with the desire to run through those radiant strands.-Gregor

As for Arya, I didn't especially like her or dislike her. Her reaction to seeing Gregor was perfectly fine at first, until the development after meeting him wasn't. I really wish she'd taken more time to trust him. I mean, she's been controlled and silenced by her father her whole life, was seen as a possession, a trading stock for her fiancé to ascend to the position of next leader in the commune...Shouldn't that have made her more wary?

Gregor is far from gruesome. He’s . . . different, but not in a bad way. He has a unique male beauty that makes me oddly shivery all over.-Arya

To be completely honest, I did like the moment where they explored their body with one another, as Arya was a bit clueless when it came to intimacy. I just wish it'd been done progressively over the course of the story rather than rushed. I feel like trust needed to be earned first as Arya had been around controlling men all her life, the man supposed to marry her almost sexually assaulting her. They intimacy felt very premature to me, and it started when she asked to sleep in the same bed as him on the first night. Just, no. That's unbelievable for me, I'm sorry.

Would I recommend this novella? Not the worst in Monster Between the Sheets but if like me you prefer romances that have an organic pacing, which seems to be lacking in most novellas in this series, well you might be disappointed. A pretty average love story in an overall average series. Man I had such high hopes with these...*sighs*

**Note that I do not rate novellas and full-length books by the same standards**

This was cute but it needed a better ending. No babies so it felt incomplete to me.

Safe. Hero’s been celibate since he was turned, possibly even a virgin although not explicitly stated. Heroine is a virgin and belongs only to her hero. There’s some danger from OM and attempted SA, but it’s stopped. No cheating or sharing or abuse between MCs. HEA but weak epilogue.

TRIGGER WARNINGS:

The very first scene in this book is our FMC escaping a compound, her father being murdered before her eyes, and her non consensual fiancé trying to force himself on her in the woods after killing her father.

There is no trigger warning for this, which I find absolutely disgusting and unreal.

The story follows Gregor, an ogre who’s shut himself off from humanity who stumbles upon Arya in the midst of her escape from her father’s cultist compound. He rescues her from her fiancé and nurses her back to health.

“At this moment we aren’t human and ogre, we’re just two lonely souls who somehow found each other in the darkness” 🖤

44% they are kissing for the first time and they are so inexperienced and awkward and I fucking love it 😂

It’s sort of sweet how lonely they both were and how they find companionship in one another despite the circumstances. This one has more back story and building than the previous books, but part of me is so upset and angry about not having a trigger warning that I want to spite rate lower than it deserves.

He’s teaching her how to forage and hunt and fend for herself. Dawwwww. 💗

Of course Toad Todd has to show up when they’re having a moment. Fucking loser.

Okay. All in all I’d rate this as a good one in the series. Other than the trigger warning the story was cute and I enjoyed their romance and the build between them. It wasn’t extremely over the top rushed like others and actually followed a believable line. 😊

An ogre and a young woman in a bad situation are up next and and little danger and mayhem are the order of the day. Meaning, Arya was in a REALLY bad situation and her monster is pretty much the best thing that ever happened to her.

Before we get to Gregor and Arya, however, we get a little more insight into the accident that changed the townsfolk so dramatically twenty years ago. All I can say is: always label your ingredients clearly when concocting brews. Otherwise, you might end up with a punch that changes people in ways no one was expecting.

Anywho. Gregor and Arya. He's a loner of a ogre who rarely ventures into town. She's a woman trying to get away from a cult. And her father. And the plans her father had for her in the cult. Throw in a traumatic moment or two during her escape and Arya isn't in the best emotional place when Gregor saves her.

Fortunately for both of them, Arya's kind of awful experience doesn't lessen her attraction to Gregor. In fact, she likes everything she sees when she looks at the big guy and soon they're shacking up and falling head over heels for one another.

A little danger, a kinda gross cult, parental issues, and two individuals who meet each other at exactly the right place and time.

Strong trigger warnings for this one. Deals with a cult and Todd trying to force what he wants or threatening to pass her around to all of the cult males. The blurb says Arya kills a man, but its Todd that kills her father. Gregor was sweet, but I preferred Xander.

Arya, the female human lead, has been raised as the leader’s daughter in a very restrictive “commune”. She’s being forced to marry the second in command when she escapes into the forest, running away from her abusive father and fiancé. Gregor, the male ogre lead, comes across her as her fiancé kills her father and attempts to rape her. Gregor throws him off and saves her, taking her to his house where she feels safe for the first time in her life. But she knows her father’s second in command won’t give up…

This short story is dual POV, well written, and a sweet and steamy romance. I enjoyed Gregor’s kindness and support for Arya’s independence. I appreciated that he checked what she wanted and acted to provide that for the first time in her life. I enjoyed Arya’s exploration of herself and her burgeoning independence and self-confidence.

I received a complimentary copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.

It's been a while since I've taken a look at this series, but then again, this isn't something I read for quality, as much as a guilty pleasure.

I plead guilty to the guilty part, but as for it being a pleasurable read....eh, let's say it's more typical.

The heroine, Arya, is from a commune and starts the story off by running away from her father and his second-in-command, who wants to have her at all costs. Arya's like "nope!" and gets the hell outta there. She's almost caught, but then saved at the last moment by Gregor, our ogre hero. From then on, it's a typical "alone in the woods/cabin together, falling in equal parts love and lust", yada yada yada.

As far as couples went, they were definitely sweet enough, but this story felt like something I've come across 1000000 times before, often in fanfiction form, and I have seen it done better in other places as well.

Therefore, if I may, I plead to being neutral on this. *shrugs*

Interesting Ending

Almost done with all the books in this series now. This one with Gregor and Arya had a very different ending to the rest. It also had some different world building details. Still, it was a very good book. It had a very tense beginning where Arya was almost raped, but was actually saved in the nick of time by Gregor. Overall, it's a good addition to the series. On to the next!

this was both sweet and spicy. Gregor was so sweet and kind and I wanted to hug him and save him from loneliness. And I felt for Arya. She has not had an easy life but she is strong and they are honestly an adorable couple.

Ogre My Dead Body de Violet Rae parte de la serie Monsters Between the Sheets

Argumento:

Gregor

My reviews always contain spoilers, I write them so I can remember the story.

We are back in Screaming Woods the town full of different monsters. One fateful Halloween the local Dr made a fun punch for the towns folk, sadly he mixed up one of the ingredients and at midnight everyone who drank the punch turned into real monsters.
Arya is running for her life through Screaming Woods, she is being chased by her father and the man he wants her to marry. Her father is the cult leader and her would be fiancé his second in command, Todd. Todd is horrible, he catches Arya and shoots her father and attacks her. He had planned it all out, this was his way of getting rid of her father and claiming her. While trying to rape her they hear a loud growl, it’s Gregor, he is an ogre. He likes to keep to himself but when he is out hunting and hears a woman scream he goes to look. When he sees an old man get shoot and the other man try to rape the woman he attacks the man. Todd still has the gun and shoot Gregor. Arya scrambles away from the fight and when Gregor is shot she runs, he breaks Todd’s nose and when he goes to look at Arya Todd escapes. He decides that Arya needs help and goes after her. She passes out when he gets to her so he takes her to his cabin.
Arya is shocked at how safe Gregor makes her feel. He worries cause he’s a monster, but she tells him Todd and her father were the only monsters she saw in the woods. He is her hero. He tells her she can stay when she’s worried about bringing trouble to his door. She knows Todd won’t give up.
The more time they spend together the more their attraction grows. Soon they are kissing and pleasuring each other. Everything is going well with them until Todd shows up again. This time with two others. They interrupt sexy times between Gregor and Arya. When Gregor goes to attack Todd he shots him twice, once fatally in the chest. Arya can’t believe Gregor is dead, because of her. She’s knocked out, when she comes to Todd is taunting her and is ready to rape her again, she gets to run because one of the guys from the cult who came with realizes Todd’s a bad guy. Sadly when Arya runs Todd kills the other guy and chases her. She fights him and gets to draw Todd’s blood. She is rescued by Xander a griffin who is a friend of Gregor’s.
Gregor comes running to Arya, she can’t believe he’s alive, he tells her his heart is in his abdomen and since he heals fast he was just knocked unconscious by the shot to his chest, not dead. He takes her home and they have their first time together. Lots of I love yous. Epilogue with Arya deciding to drink the potion the dr made at the party that turned everyone. Gregor ages very slowly and Arya wants a whole long life time with him. She drinks the potion and her monster is a sort of shape shifter, she can touch and take on the form of the being she touches or can mentally project any being she wants. Bonus downloadable epilogue with them being frisky in the woods and her playing a shifting prank on him. Then giving him the good news, she’s pregnant.

This is a good paranormal romance, one of my favorites of the series so far, mostly because I really liked Gregor. It gets 3.5 stars from me, rounded up to 4 stars.

I did wish the story had been a little longer, to allow more time for character development. I would have liked a little more backstory on both Gregor and Arya.

One warning for anyone that is triggered by attempted rape scenes, there is one in this book. The rape is not successful, but the scene still might bother some readers. I also thought that Arya recovered from the trauma of that attempted rape too quickly to believe. She was already lusting after Gregor within a few hours after he saved her.

I adored Gregor. He was wonderful to Arya, and I loved that he helped her escape the awful commune leader who was after her. I also really liked that he got his griffin friend to help. His talents were perfect for what that awful man deserved.

Arya was likable, and I was proud of her for trying to escape the forced marriage to that awful man. She only succeeded because of Gregor and his friend, though. I won't give major spoilers, but she did do something near the end of the book which bothered me. She used her new shapeshifting ability to pretend she was Gregor's friend, and what she said was just awful.

I did think that Gregor and Arya were more in lust than in love, especially at first. I did believe, though, that they fell in love later.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

From My Main GoodReads Profile:

Where to begin...okay so, my relationship with Urban fantasy has been tenuous at best. I can barely stand to watch it let alone read it. Still, I'm on a mission to read a little bit of almost every genre by 2025. Which is how I found myself falling fast for the Fantasy Romance subgenre as a strictly non-romancey reader who would much rather toss all those books in "Twoflower's" Luggage to disappear into another dimension and call it a day. BUT, who knew I just needed hot Elves and demons to fall in love and get their happily-ever-after to warm my cold dead heart.

So... that's how we got here, to this book about an ogre and a girl. Having recently read "Ogres - Terrible Worlds Revolutions" (Adrian Tchaikovsky) my perception of the monstrosities has altered. In the same vein as the Ogres book - I'm pretty sure humans are the ogres of the universe.

The long and the short of it is this - let my ogre dude Gregor find love yall.  Just let him find some happiness. As for the girl, what'serface forgettable redhead ... yeah her long-winded inner-monologues bordered on torture.

***********************************************
RATING BREAKDOWN:

General Plot: +2 Escape Cult, Find Ogre, Take Down Cult, HEA.

Characters:+1 Gregor seems solid and likeable

Style/Grammar: -1 sometimes the author forgot she was using 1st person and randomly starts using 3rd person midway in a conversation or inner dialogue.  Very whiplashy.

Overall Flow: -1 Highly cringe-inducing dialogue at times. Some heavy second hand embarrassment. Also; enough with the "My female, this female female female female" we get it you're uncultured and isolated Gregor. Do better.

Quotes: "Lean mean ogre machine" and "Mogre" and "Every Girl should have an ogre of her own"  almost had me dnf-ing this book.

Crazy Scene:Arya fleeing through the woods a second time as naked as the day she was born had me loling and horrified equally.

I really liked Arya and Gregor's story.
Gregor has been living in isolation away from everyone since the poisoning of the town people 20+ years ago on Halloween night. He's learned to live off the grid and the only two people he trusts to know where his little cabin in the woods is the good scientist and another monster who prefers his own company as well.
Gregor and and ogre side were content to live this way.
At least until the night he rescues Arya. Now he can't see a life or a future without her. But Gregor is convinced that nobody at beautiful as Arya would want to stay with him in his own isolation, especially after just leaving her own form of a prison.
Arya had grown accustomed to living within the cult her father leads and growing up with an abusive father. However, the last straw comes when she learns she is to be the bride of her father's second in command. A man who is as old as her father and Arya just hates with every fiber of her being. She knows what a true monster is, and Gregor is as far from being a monster as could be.
When Gregor rescued her she thought to just have him help her learn to survive off the land and live off the grid so she can hide from the men of the cult that she knows will still be coming after her. This was the plan...until feelings start to develop on both sides and soon Arya can't imagine a future without Gregor.

I would've given this one 5 stars, but one thing held me back from it. The inconsistencies with this and the life expansion of the mates to the monsters. In a few other books it's kind of just glossed over, barely touches on it, or the mates life expectancy is just expanded along with the monsters. However, with this one, Arya had to drink the potion to give her a longer life with Gregor. When it comes to these kind of series written by different authors, I feel this is something that should be kind of discussed and agreed upon between all the authors so there isn't confusion among the books.

Gregor and Arya . . .

On a Halloween night, a group of young people having a party in the Screaming Woods drinks a brew Dr. Karloff brought to the celebrations. He had not meant to harm anyone, but those who drank it changed into all sorts of monster-type creatures. Gregor became an ogre and has chosen to live in the woods where no one will see him. Others made the same choice, while those less affected returned to the village they had come from. He doesn’t trust himself, so he tolerates the loneliness to keep others safe.

While hunting, Gregor hears a scream. He sees two men standing over a young woman who is bleeding on the ground. Her clothes are ripped. The younger man pulls out a gun and shoots the older man, then shoves the gun into her hand and forces another shot so he can blame her for the death. Then he attacks her, pulling off her clothes. Gregor will not allow that, even if he has to show himself to them. The creep shoots him and Gregor punches him. The woman screams and the man uses the distraction to run away. Unfortunately, she runs as well and runs into a tree. He carries her to his cabin to treat her wounds. He feels protective of her already.

Gregor and Arya feel so perfect together. These two caring, compassionate characters are attracted to each other, but Gregor feels unworthy of her because he considers himself a “monster”. With a heart like his, he could never fit the standard definition. The fact that Arya looks at him without fear or disgust should help to restore some confidence. But will Todd accuse Arya of murdering her father and bring others back to capture her? Can Gregor keep her safe? Or will he die trying to protect her?

Arya grew up in a cult with her dad as cult leader. Women in the cult are usually forced into a marriage chosen by her father at age 18. When that birthday comes and goes, Arya thought she might be safe since few men show an interest in big girls like her. When she turns 24, she learns that her father has chosen his second in command to be her husband. Her father, her intended husband and her are driving out to get the marriage license. Arya escapes into the woods when the car door is accidently left unlocked. Arya is caught by the men and is horrified when her intended husband kills her dad and then forces her to shoot her father too so she can be framed for his murder. He is about to force intimacy on her when she is rescued by Gregor, an orge-ish monster. Arya knows she should be afraid but he treats her so kindly she starts to fall for him.

Gregor thought he would live the rest of his life alone after that Halloween party twenty years ago. After drinking Dr. Karloff's punch, Gregor has been turned into an ogre. Believing himself to be a monster, he has isolated himself in the woods so he won't hurt anyone. Then one day he hears a woman screaming and he rushes to the rescue. To his big surprise, Arya quickly adjusts to the idea of him being an ogre. She seems to like him and be attracted to him in his monster form. Maybe these two are meant to be together.

Arya is running away from her cruel father. Her father has kept her pure and now wants to give her to Todd, whose property she will be. Arya would rather be dead than suffer this fate. She is in the woods, horror stories about unknown creatures are often told about. Something awful happens, someone (Todd) who wants power over her and other people wants to force to marry her. He kills her father, blaming it on her and tries to force himself on her.
Gregor was changed into an ogre by a brew Dr. Karloff brought into the village and changed their lifes forever. Now he lives reclusve in screaming woods. Then he sees what Todd is doing to Arya and can not stay away. He intervenes and takes care of her. She melts his lonely heart, but her past is not gone.
Sweet and romantic Halloween story. Gregor has such a negative perspection of himself and he is such a sweetheart. Luckily Arya sees his heart.

This book is a part of the Monster Between the Sheets series and focuses on Gregor and Arya. Arya is on the run from her father and Todd, the man her dad is giving her over to. They are both awful men but Todd definitely takes the cake when it comes to being a monster. Gregor witnesses a terrible interaction between Arya and the 2 men and immediately springs into action to save her. Gregor takes her back to his cabin and helps her heal in more ways than one. It doesn’t take them long to fall for each other and find that they have found the person meant for them. This was a great story and a great addition to the series.

Mogre...perfect!!!!!

Arya was being abused and traded by her father to his second in command. Unbeknownst, to her father, Todd is wanting to be the sole ruler of the compound that Arya is in..well her father is the ruler of. During the set-up by Todd, Gregor finds her and saves her from his plan.

Gregor drunk the punby Dr. Karloff and went from being himan to an Ogre and decided to live in the woods becuase he thought he was a monster. Saving Arya, restructured not only his living situation but his heart. He ralized that he wasted her and the only way was ro follow her lead.

I so love the series and how they overlap with other stories. The followup that you can at the end of this one explains a whole lot.

Great Halloween read!!!!

Good

This fit in well with the rest of the series.

The author did something that only one other book touched on (heroine taking the potion, and the other book never finished that part) -
Its this (and the last story which I don't enjoy) that makes me wish they had set guidelines for things in this universe. But that's a frustration with the series as a whole.

This story was good. I didn't really feel like the heroine had actually been "sheltered in a commune" like she kept saying no and referencing. but the fear and loathing fit the place and people still felt genuine.
I really liked the hero, but I would love to know what happened to his sister.

Second favorite of the series so far, probably because this one also has a slower race to sexytimes, so we've got time to get to know both Gregor and Arya (I did think it funny that a woman raised in a cult shares a name with a character from a popular TV show - somehow I picture all cults as not having TVs?). I liked that Gregor was patient with Arya and taught her things she'd need to survive and helped her become more confident, though I imagine in real life it takes more than two weeks to recover from an escape like that.

We get to briefly meet Gregor's griffin neighbor near the end of the story and (so far?) it doesn't look like he gets a book? Boooo.

Fleeing an arranged marriage to a man in the commune she’s from, Arya (h) is injured and knocked unconscious. Gregor (H), an ogre, was once a normal man until an incident left him, and much of the town's population as monsters. He finds himself drawn to Arya and takes her to his isolated cabin deep in the woods to heal. As she gets to know Gregor, Arya too finds herself drawn to him, but dangers from Aya’s past continue to threaten her and Gregor will have to protect what’s his. Sweet romantic monster quickie with a side of steam and special equipment!

Inconsistent

The book itself was okay, but the inconsistencies between this story and the others that are attached to this town was vastly different. They others technically left it vague on lifespan with a few saying they just got their life span as their mate while this author compelling changed that. I didn't like it. As a writer you would think there would have been better communication about certain things. It took me out of the story and the illusion of the make believe town with something that was completely drastic compared to the others.

An incredible, super sweet, and mega heartfelt monster romance that left me breathless!

This is my first time reading a monster romance featuring an ogre and I have to say, I really loved it.

This ogre was gentle, protective and sweet. He piqued my interest right from the start and having his mate be curvy, sweet and in need of someone like him that will go through any lengths to keep her safe, melted my heart. I didn't want this story to end and can't wait to read more books from this new to me author!
