Tentacular Tales #2

Can't Help Falling in Love with an Alien

Rate this book
River

Working for the Alliance is a sci-fi nerd’s dream–aka mine–come true. I’ve even won the heart of my grumpy-sexy alien boyfriend. Nothing can bring me down, baby. I’m walking on freaking sunshine! Except now one of Kai’s douchey AF exes decides to turn up like a bad case of crabs. I don’t trust him one bit. But I’ve got even bigger problems to worry about. Like helping some awesome aliens in trouble, and maybe moving in with Kai, who’s totally going to propose any day now—right? Oh, and my shady relatives might be hiring an assassin to take me out. So, you know, a day in the life of River Sullivan. I’m sure everything’s going to be fine. Won’t it?

Kai

We’ve finally got a new lead on the drug dealer targeting extraterrestrials on Earth. But the more we unravel in this investigation, the less I like it. Outside of work though, things are going amazingly well with my adorable mate–dear galactic gods, how did that happen? But with an ex back in my life and wanting to be friends, and the threat of a potential assassin looming, things are getting a little complicated. I love River with both my hearts—and all five tentacles—but even I’m worried I might not be able to protect him from the dangers ahead. Also, I need to figure out how the heck I’m going to propose to him. River deserves something “epic,” and I don’t want to let him down. Am I going to be able to deliver?

Can’t Help Falling in Love with an Alien (Tentacular Tales #2) is a (116,000 words) M/M sci-fi rom com and the second book in the series. It should be read in chronological order. This installment features a pajama party date that will go down in infamy, inappropriate team t-shirts, a half-baked love poem, more Captain Starblade and Lord Vardox, drunken shenanigans courtesy of spaceship moonshine, unexpected mating instincts, plenty of new aliens with problems for River to solve, and tentacles galore. And possibly an epic proposal? This book has an HFN ending and no cheating. Never fear—there is a guaranteed HEA by the end of the series!

4.5***** stars
audio 5+++ stars

this time:
Team ANAL on Project ORAL —So good, River, so good!

additional top moments in this installment:

★ The Ice Planet Barbarians male revue
★ River and his BFF Evan bantering
(I love them together so freaking much!! 😭)
★ Lord Vardox & Captain Starblade snippets
★ bestest of fan-mail answered by Kai (the grandma!! *lol)
★ Kai explains Tentacular Calefaction to River
★ drunk River (extra extra points for Greg B here)

This, people, is just top notch entertainment. It’s like a day of fun in an amusement park. I can only imagine what kind of work days Greg B must’ve had narrating these audiobooks. Again, so so good! GET THESE AUDIOS NOW!! I don’t think I had this much fun with books/audios since the Tales of Verania.

My only struggle with this (and funny af books in general) is, that the sexy times aren’t doing much for me, unfortunately. I just can’t take it seriously enough. *lol

Anyway, I CAN’T wait for the next audio to get produced. ♡ Chloe Archer’s writing is witty, and once again, fun and the storyline is super engaging and captivating. I find this very impressive for this is the author’s debut series.

Hilarious sequel to the tentacular tales featuring Captain Starblade…

…ofc, I’m joking, it’s about River and Kai. But one of the things I loved most about this book were the Starblade/Vardox snippets at the beginning of each chapter. Or, even funnier, the fan mail for River, answered by his “boyfriend and bodyguard Kai” 🤣

So yes, we’re back in this incredibly creative, funny world Chloe Archer created, and I can’t help but be in awe - so many details, from the cleverly interspersed pop cultural references (I now need to look for Kirk/Spock fanfics, I didn’t even know that’s a thing!) to the myriad of alien anatomy and culture bits. So well done, even though I probably missed half of it, because - again - Greg Bourdeaux made me laugh out loudly more than once with his narration.

No idea if the book works as well if you’re only reading it - Greg’s twinky voices are so on point, I really see the gesturing that accompanies the words in my head, it’s so vivid. Or the hesitant, almost shy way the newly arrived aliens speak (looking at you, Zion 😬) - so good!

As for the story: it picks up where book 1 left us, River is apparently in danger because of his alien family, and there’s Kai’s ex Fabian (or Fabio, as his mother calls him) who “wants to be friends again” with Kai.

Sure he does 🙄

And did I mention that in addition to “Team A.N.A.L” we have an “Operation O.R.A.L.”??? And “Team A.N.A.L” shirts?

It’s hilarious. Yes, the humour is a bit OTT, but if you’re into “Men in Black”, then I’m certain you’ll love it. Don’t start with this one though, it’s not standalone. And if you can, listen instead of reading.

It certainly brightened my days, and I’m sure I’ll come back to it.

5 unicorny stars (omg, the unicorn scene 😂😂😂 don’t remind me… and the furries 😂 ) for a story that isn’t perfect, but- as mentioned- hilarious. Absolutely loved it 💕

hilarious, punny, and effortlessly lovable. i must thank the author for laughing in the face of the clichéd romcom use of miscommunication to create conflict, and instead, giving us a couple who treats each other with trust and respect. way to make a girl’s heart sing all the tender notes 😌

Greg B hits the narration out of the park once again!

So clever, so funny, crazy hot, and very romantic. Chloe Archer's Tentacular Tales series continues with Can't Help Falling in Love with an Alien!

Kai and River's unusual romance grows even steamier as they grow closer, and the forces of evil continue to gain power as well.

Archer has a marvelous sense of humor, and Can't Help Falling in Love with an Alien had me literally laughing out loud. If you haven't tried this wonderfu series, I highly recommend giving it a try. And if you're a fan of audiobooks, definitely go with the audio version. Greg Boudreaux delivers a fantastic performance. Boudreaux has dozens of creative voices for this varied cast and brings the whole thing to life.

Audiobook Review

Since I went into so much detail when I first read this in ebook form, I will only say that even if aliens, tentacles, dancing sexy aliens, and twinks are not your thing, hearing Greg narrate this is worth the over 11 hours it takes.

_________________________________________________

Ever wanted to read about nerdy stuff, tentacles, and hot weird alien omega bodies? Well have I got the book for you!

Heads up, you really do need to read the first book to get this one. It basically is written like episodes that run right after each other.

We pick up where the first book left off, hunting for the drug dealing bad aliens and worrying about River's alien family coming to get him. Out of the blue, Kai, the hunky alien dude who has found his mate with River, gets a call from an ex about a sighting of the one they are hunting about the drugs. Thus starts the overarching story of the ANAL team going forth and protecting and covering for any aliens out there in Vegas.

I link arms with my boo, and to assert dominance, I stare down Fabian.

He narrows his eyes back at me.

Step off, bitch; you ain’t getting my man!

“Did you learn anything useful from your interviews?” Kai asks Mal and Zamir, oblivious to the silent glare war I’m waging with his ex.

River is very jealous of this ex and he has the right of it. The call was the first part of an evil plan that has to be with both River and Kai. On top of this, River starts a new part of the alien group called ORAL. This new group is to help aliens who cannot pass as humans and be supported and less alone.

Side note, on top of the actual story of this book, there is another erotica story that River has been writing online that made him a big star in the alien world before River even knew aliens existed. Every chapter in here starts with either a snippet of the story or a fan letter that is sent to ANAL on behalf of River that Kai dutifully answers.

But to be honest, my focus and enjoyment was based on the fact that apparently Kai is an omega, though the word is never used, as he is a male who can have babies. He starts suffering from Mating Fever and River of course needs to take care of his needs while also trying not to impregnate him.

I also loved the different biology of Kai, I mean where his prostate is located.

All in all, this was another fun romp in Vegas with River and Kai and this too ended in a HFN with a cliffhanger for the new overarching story.

I'm still enjoying this series, and look forward to the next book. Kai answering River's fanmail was great, and the continuing storyline moved forward. We're learning more about Kai's species, Benji remains oblivious to Mal's massive crush and there are some new aliens introduced and some new pairings hinted at.

This story is definitely OTT fun, but there were times where things started feel repetitive (mostly thoughts and jokes) and I thought it maybe could have been cut down a bit, but it won't be stopping me from pressing forward.

How does this author follow up the amazing start to this series of It’s Not Unusual to be Loved by an Alien? By delivering another just-as-amazing, funny, and thoroughly entertaining installment of River and Kai’s adventures. Can’t Help Falling in Love with an Alien? More like you can’t help falling in love with this story.

River’s vibrant personality and continually evolving, inspired ideas for the alien community coupled with his ongoing antics that completely confound Kai—in a fun and sexy way of course—make it easy to get totally immersed in the story. There is also a diverse spectrum of alien representation that showcases the author’s creativity and the thoroughness of the world building.

We also get treated to some new characters, including an alien Elvis impersonator (they are in Las Vegas after all), a super-hot group of alien refugees from a warrior world, an unexpected appearance of an ex, and some not-so-nice guys as well. The story continues to evolve and even when things seem bleak, River is still there keeping things lighthearted as he finds the best in just about everyone.

Oh, and be sure to keep your fans handy to cool you off. Things between River and Kai get hot and naughty as you might expect…and this time it’s with an extra added twist.

I’m loving this series, and here with book two I’m handing out another well-deserved 5-star rating. If you haven’t started this series yet, you need to get to it because you’re really missing out! It’s sizzling hot, laugh-out-loud funny, and just an all-out unique read that will have you desperate for the next book like I am.

I waited for the audio to be released because of how fantastic Greg Boudreaux was narrating the first book of the series. Honestly, if it has Greg Boudreaux narrating, then I'm likely to enjoy it, and I did here.
This kicks off pretty soon after the last book ended with River and Kai getting pretty serious. Unfortunately, we have scheming exes and assassins to deal with.
More zany ideas from River that usually work out and plenty of steamy scenes. I particularly liked the fan mail emails.
Mal and Benji's story is set up nicely too!

It's official. The Tentacular Tales is one of my favorite new series of 2022. I mean these books are just so much fun! Between the hilarious River and his antics, the lewd abbreviations, the outfits, all the side characters, the banter, and of course all the sexy tentacle goodness you can't help but laugh or swoon the entire book. I don't think I ever stopped having a smile on my face while reading. Its incredibly wacky and totally out there but I am diggin' everything about it.

Plot wise we have a bit of movement on the Extraterrestrials responsible for the illegal drug operation. Unfortunately, the Alliance may just be seeing the tip of the iceberg. On top of that, we have a mole. At first my money was on Aiden, but I get the feeling that's what we are supposed to think. I'd be kinda bummed if it was him to be honest because even though he appears to dislike River, I do so love their interactions together.

This book ends on a mini cliffy I'd call it. I'm left with so many questions and curiosities. What's involved in an Iyaran Sanctioning Ceremony? Is it possible for either of our beloved MCs to get knocked up!? Will Captain Starblade ever admit he wants Lord Vardox just as much as he wants him? How long is Benji going to be able to hold out before finally giving into Mal's charms? Same question except this time substitute Evan and Zion. And finally, I am salivating to know the real story of what happened between Wilder and Zamir. I need them all to have a book please and thanks. As River would say, GO TEAM A.N.A.L.!

This was a clever follow up to book 1. BUT….
Some parts were super predictable.
The bad ex turning evil 🙄 Chewy not being the bodyguard we hoped for
ALSO lots of the gay stereotypes that I wish would die. AND oh the irony of the author pointing out all the stereotypes in rom coms when she herself writes in those same stereotypes. Quite something. My highlights reveal several but GR is not letting me post them. GR isn’t very technologically advanced as it were.

The new aliens brought into this episode were interesting. Not sure if I would have made them strippers but hey it is Vegas 🧐🤔😏 River’s best friend is the most annoying here. He’s an epic eye roll for me.

River and Kai are still interesting enough to keep reading though. The biology of Kai is intriguing. What will come of it in book 3. I’m glad I binged these when all 3 were out because I’d hate to have to wait. The Benji/Mal storyline should be good too! Off to read book 3

Can't Help Falling in Love with an Alien is the second story in the Tentacular Tales series and it’s a seriously fun read. River is so freakin funny, downright hilarious at times and Kai is a total sweetheart, although he tries to come off as grumpy. The world building is sooo good, like watching a movie play out. Overall, a seriously fun read, well written with great pacing! Highly recommend!

truly tentacular!

While I think I liked book one more, I did laugh a lot in this book! Tons of shenanigans and pop culture references mixed with River and Kai’s deepening love. There were some very kinky sex scenes that will delight tentacle lovers. Can’t wait for the next book!

We return to our regularly scheduled program following River, Kai, and Team ANAL (lol) in their efforts to uncover who's behind the alien drug smuggling ring. Things get *intense* with the appearance of Kai's ex, more sightings of former Team ANAL member Wilder, and River's latest brainchild on how to incorporate the non-human-passing aliens into Earth life.

River remains incredibly (as he would say) "extra," and while his wackiness could slant into annoying territory it somehow continues to be just sort of endearing and very authentic to him. I love seeing Kai slide deeper and deeper into love with River, and there were several moments where I definitely laughed out loud. Kai's mom, Elle, continues to be one of my favorite characters, and I love how Chloe Archer writes these totally badass female side characters in Elle and Roxy.

I LOVE that there is some further development in the whole Mal + Benjie situation in this book, and I'm really hoping for some development of the romantic plot between Zamir and Wilder in future books. It's so fun how I care deeply about the main romantic plotline between Kai and River, as well as the love lives of the side characters, and then also the sort of suspense (?) plotline of the Alliance's work.

This is book two in the Tentacular Tales series, and the series does need to be read in order. You can MAYBE skip the novella that takes place between this book and book one, but you're really better off reading them all.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions are unbiased and my own.

Good:
Kai was super sweet in this book.
+ It was nice to see character growth in both River and Kai.
+ I loved seeing how the different aliens spent time on Earth.
+
Bad:
- Still not enough tentacles. There was more tentacle content in this book than the first one, but it still wasn’t enough.
- Everything was really predictable. I predicted almost every major plot point before it happened. This isn’t a big deal to me, but I know it bothers some people.
- This felt less funny and more annoyingly over the top, but I could have just been overloaded by reading both books back-to-back.

Chloe Archer delivered another fantastic instalment. I was laughing and smiling like a loon.

I absolutely adored River and his quirky personality. I was cracking up when he was drunk: he was so freaking cute.

Kai’s poem was so sweet - my heart melted into a pile of goo.

Oh my god, drunk Mal was sweet but I doubt he’s ever gonna live what he said down lol.

Absolutely loved it. Highly Recommend!!!!

I RAN to Amazon the moment this book was available and promptly devoured it. OMFG, this was even better than the first one. The fanmail starting each chapter - brilliant. And so much happens inside this book that I won't even try to talk about all that. This was so much fun to read.

Read this, you must.

This is the second book in the hilarous sci-fi Tentacular Tales series. I definitely recommend that you read this series in order as this book picks up pretty much right after book 1 (And there is a 1/5 holiday story that gets mentioned in this one too!)

River and Kai are still navigating their relationship and learning more about each other as they continue to work together as well. Now that River's family history is becoming known, there is a threat to his safety. That plus an ex-boyfriend of Kai's trying to come back into his life,

One thing I loved were the extras at the start of each chapter - we got a mix of text message conversations between the two MCs that River writes about, and emails sent to River with Kai replying. They were hilarious.

This author definitely can write the humor and banter well. There were lots of moments that I loved in this story. This is a LONG story - and sometimes I felt like a couple things dragged a bit more me? (The whole ORAL subplot haha) but I'm totally invested in what this mating ritual is all about that people keep warning River about, and I CANNOT WAIT for Benji and Mal's story.

I received an arc in exchange for an honest review.

Kai, an alien and River, are back in the second book of the series( besides a novella in between). The two are practically the alien equivalent of engaged when Kai's old boyfriend pops up and wants him back. Kai is so adorably clueless half the time and River is at his snarkiest best in this humorous story as they try to stop a drug dealer. Returning are all their co-workers from Team ANAL, family and friends and River's running Sci-Fi serial of Lord Vardox and Captain Starblade that has captivated the Universe. With steamy times, both in River's serial and his personal life, the tentacles get a work out, too. Chloe has once again combined "Men in Black" and
Magic Mike" vibes with tentacle rapture to create a fantastic, sexy, hilarious serial of her own that keeps you begging for more alien interaction in our human world. I am addicted to these characters. I received a copy of this book and this is my honest opinion.

Two months ago, I was completely oblivious to the magic of Chloe Archer. Now I can't imagine my life without River, Kai, Captain Starblade, Lord Vardox and the rest of her amazing characters.

Book 2 picks up right from the first book and the adorable Christmas novella. Team ANAL is trying to figure out the identity of the drug dealer and Kai and River are waiting for the shoe to drop with River's relatives. But a new book means new challenges too. Like Kai's ex showing up like a bad penny and that's just the beginning. But no matter what happens, these guys are so incredibly fun to read. Every page makes me want more and more.

I love the way Kai goes along with all of River's dates, even if he does so a bit begrudgingly. It's clear that he adores River and that just melts my heart. River is crazy and zany but super smart and I couldn't love him more. He's the best. They both are. I honestly don't know how I'm supposed to wait for another installment. I guess I'll just have to keep re-reading these until it arrives.

Wow Chloe has come back with a second and even better installment of Tentacular Tales! We meet again with Kai & River as they're figuring out their inter galactic species relationship while working with ANAL. River has proven they need his unique way of thinking to settle on earth with all the tension of the illegal aliens narcotics being distributed on Earth.
You will see more epic pop culture references, amazing sexy times, action and mystery to boot!!
Please do read book 1 first it really does set the scene for this epic ride, I cannot wait for the next installment keep up the epic work Chloe!

This book happens a few days after A Very Tentacular Christmas and maybe a few weeks after It's Not Unusual To Be Loved by an Alien, the case regarding the alien drugs went cold and they are working hard to find the culprit of it. Kai receives a direct call from a 'friend' with a tip regarding Wilder meeting with another Osairan (which is rare since they can't emigrate to Earth that easily). River notices that this 'friend' is getting a little friendlier than normal and we discover that Fabian is in fact Kai's ex which he forgot to mention before. Besides that River and Kai's relationship is going well, there are talks of them getting engaged/moving together, it may feel quick but Kai is certain that River is his mate and is going to keep him even if he has to dress in onesies to keep him happy.

Case-based this is the beginning of the continuation of the mystery regarding those drugs, which I felt went a little to the back burner during this book, don't get me wrong we do get some answers regarding who is possibly behind everything and we knew from the beginning this was going to be an ongoing investigation but I felt it was secondary to the main story. I love River's ideas for the aliens and I find him so endearing that he felt so on the outside in the world, connecting with humans, and now that he is part of the Alliance, he is actually shining.

River and Kai's relationship is still strong and on that front, there wasn't anything bad about them as a couple but this time around I wasn't a fan of River. He quite bothered me past the 80% mark of the book and I was just done with him not taking things seriously. Kai's doubts became a bit repetitive and I was just about to be done with him also, thankfully other stuff make him put those out of his mind which leads me to an additional comment I want to make. No spoilers will be shared but what happened to Kai after what happened to River was just OTT and if they had any whispers of it before it would have made more sense with the story but I felt it was put there as a shock factor and just to something there instead of being a truly well-thought addition to the story.

What kind of saved the book for me were the snippets from The Tentacular Tales of Capitain Starblade and the email correspondence between River's fans and Kai from the A.N.A.L. Archive of Intergalactic Communications, those were hilarious, and can't wait to read the next book just to keep seeing those.

Another excellent addition in an increasingly mysterious series. I really enjoy all of the characters and the plot in these books. I'm so hooked on this series, I need to know more. I was not prepared for the twists and turns this book had, I also didn't see some of the elements coming. Which I love! I love it when an author can surprise me with the twists and turns, that means that the story is creative and unique. Which this is!

I really liked how River and Kai's relationship evolved and deepened throughout the course of this book, and Kai getting thrown into a heat of sorts? So great and unexpected. I also really liked not just the new side characters, but also the previously existing ones that we got to see more of. We as readers got to see more of Mal and Benji's will they won't they relationship, we also got to see a future relationship between Evan and Zion.. (possibly) along with getting to know Roxy's character better. I love her character, she is so awesome.

The only reason I'm holding off on 5 stars is cause there is quite a bit of steamy scenes in this book, now they are well written I just personally don't love a bunch of those scenes in my stories. However, the didn't deduct much for me, I still really enjoyed this book. I'm so excited for what's to come next. Is anyone else rooting for Kai or River to get pregnant with alien babies? Especially after Kai kept saying it was virtually impossible to procreate?

Overall a really great book!

Funny, but slow

I love River, he's so witty. And Kai is his perfect straight man. The supporting characters are full of personality. The erotic fantasy River is writing is hilarious and sexy.

The problem is the plot. There is no relationship conflict. Kai wants to make a perfect proposal, but he gets an idea and executes flawlessly. River has Ideas, but everyone loves them and helps him execute them. There might be an assassin after River, but Kai's family is prepared to protect him. That's only very briefly a problem.

So the whole story is resting on the mystery of who is bringing drugs to Earth and why. There are only the most tenuous clues. Wilder is captured, but gives up no interesting information. Nothing was resolved. It was frustrating, and a little boring.

I'll keep reading for the characters, but I hope the next book is better.

Chloe has created such a vivid world full of humans and so many unique aliens. Greg brought them to life once again like no one else could. Every character from Kai and River to Benji, CJ, Chewy and Mal has a distinct voice that is the perfect representation of who they are. There is excitement and suspense, but I still had a permanent smile on face from all space words, sci fi movie references and other quirky ways they all interacted together. I cannot get enough of Lord Vardox and Captain Starblade's story at the start of each chapter! I hope we get many more Audibles in this World!

River has been working for the Alliance for about a month and dating Kai for about the same length of time. They get a break in their case, but unfortunately, it comes from Kai's ex, who seems to be up to no good.

This book picks up where the first one left off and continues the central mystery from the first book into this one. While the overall mystery wasn't wrapped up, the book's central mystery was wrapped up nicely. We got to see some wacky new aliens, and River launched a new project to try and help aliens settle into life on earth better.

Greg Boudreaux is perfect for this series. He does amazing with River and Kai.
River is just a-freakin-dorable! And Kai may have a seem grumpy and cool but he is a total softy and romantic. I just can't get enough of them and the side characters make up an amazing crew that I hope have their own stories soon. The humor in this book is just amazing. I loved all the snippets of Vardox and Starblade ( I so need more of them) and the fan letters to River and Kai's responses!
