This picture book is a newer holiday tale. It is based on Dr. Seuss’s How the Grinch Stole Christmas but it is told from Max, the dog’s point of view. The story is told with rhyme and rhythm and is fun to read aloud. The book is closer to the newer movie version of the Grinch than the original Grinch movie or book. Max reveals what the mean old Grinch is like and that he hates Christmas and the Whos. The Grinch causes mayhem in Whoville by messing with the mail and ruining a holiday festival. The Grinch decides to steal Christmas and forces Max to help, but there is a happy ending. The illustrations within the book are colorful, vibrant, and bold. This book is fun to read as a family, especially around Christmas time. It could also be read in a classroom setting in a preschool-2nd grade classroom.

Ah, Max, the unsung hero of How the Grinch Stole Christmas. Max is seriously amazing if you think about it. He's a good dog, obviously good with people, and yet he loves his owner, this extremely grouchy Grinch. He stays by his side and takes care of him as well as a dog can. Max is where the Grinch's heart actually is. Recommended!
