Paradise Bay #5

Pride and Piña Coladas

Rate this book
He’s a billionaire rum magnate. He’s as hot as he is rude. And we’re stranded on a private island alone.

As event planner at the Paradise Bay Resort, my shot at ‘the big time’ has finally arrived. I’m heading up the hospitality team for the World Bartender Championships.

There’s only one big problem.

And his name is Theo Rojas.

As the major sponsor of the event, Theo has decided to be onsite, micromanaging every second of the competition.

Apparently, he’s added ‘make Nora’s life absolute hell’ to the top of his to-do list.

Too bad for Mr. Grumpy Chinos because he doesn’t know who he’s dealing with—I’ve taken on far worse foes than him. And if he thinks he’s going to get the best of me, he’s in for an early wake-up call.

So when we find ourselves stranded on a luxury private island overnight, I’m determined to put him in his place once and for all.

Only somehow, instead of continuing our constant sparring, I find myself staring into his gorgeous eyes.

And now I have totally forgotten the nasty things I was planning to say. Something about him being arrogant, right?

Pride and Piña Coladas is a Jane Austen retelling that’ll have you laughing, swooning, and sipping fruity blender drinks. It’s got it all—enemies-to-lovers, plenty of witty banter, a charming bad guy (who gets his comeuppance), forced proximity in the world’s most romantic location, and heartwarming, tender moments galore.

Nora is about to turn thirty, wildly unsuccessful plant fanatic, and event planner at Paradise Bay Resort. Her shot at ‘the big time’ has finally arrived—the resort is hosting the World Bartender Championships. Enter Theo Rojas. As the major sponsor of the event, Theo has decided to be onsite, micromanaging every second of the competition.
And it's safe to say that it's loathe on first sight.

Returning to Paradise Bay is always my favorite part of the year. The island holds so many epic lovestories & memories which you can't NOT love.

Nora & Theo's relationship was like Lizzy & Mr Darcy but with a bit more sexual tension. I loved their banter so much especially the stranded island getaway.

This book wildly entertaining, joyful, and romantic. Can't wait to be back for more adventures!

The perfect beach read! The setting is idyllic, the bartending contest backdrop is fun, and the contestants are all eye candy. And the romance between Nora and Theo is a quick, enemies-to-lovers story that I couldn’t get enough of. I love the whole event planning angle (I was an event planner for awhile so it felt like coming home) and I’m always a sucker for the next generation who is trying to keep the family business running so this had so many things working for it. Note: I am not a Pride and Prejudice fan (I’ve been trying to finish reading it since high school – doubt it will ever happen) so I don’t know how closely it follows that story but I loved this one. The ending wrapped everything up nicely and I would love to see what happens for them next.

This book was so sweet and just so much fun. There are lots of characters I loved to hate, some returning favorites, and our completely adorable leading couple. I fell in love with Theo and Nora. It was just so much fun to watch them resisting the pull between them while also working so hard to salvage their respective professional reputations. I couldn’t help but feel for them and the uphill battles they were fighting. They’re both such manic control freaks that I’m not sure how the people around them functioned. Even though we witnessed it, I’m not entirely sure how they functioned themselves, taking everything on the way they did. I love that we haven’t seen the last of Paradise Bay and I can’t wait until our next opportunity to come back for a visit.

Pride and Pina Coladas is a fun modern-day remake of Pride and Prejudice and although it's entirely "modern" somehow I think Ms. Austen would approve.

The resort where Nora works is hosting a huge bartending competition and Nora's finally got a shot at moving up the ladder. Theo, an event sponsor, is a major thorn in her flesh though. Micromanaging just about every aspect of the event, he's rude and bossy...and annoyingly sexy. If they don't kill each other, they might be meant to be.

Adorable and sweet, this modern update gives heartfelt emotion and effortless laughs. It's a great summer read!

Pride and Pina Coladas is a fun, entertaining read that takes place at Paradise Bay Resort where Nora Cooper is the event planner and Theo Rojas is the major sponsor at the resorts latest event. From the moment these two meet sparks fly but not always the way you are thinking but Nora needs the World Bartender Championship to be successful and that means putting up with Theo whilst at times butting heads. So will the event be a success and more importantly what happens when this couple cross the line…..one click to find out.
This is a fun, witty story but honestly at times I wanted to bang Theo and Nora’s heads together but that being said this couple grew on me as their story progressed. Melanie Summers did an amazing job describing the resort and I found myself dreaming of holidays in the Caribbean. Pride and Pina Coladas has the perfect mix of love and humour with Chatham grow on you.

What a cute and fun read! I really enjoyed going back to Paradise Bay and meeting more new and wonderful characters in this world! Theo and Nora were a great enemies-to-lovers story and I loved them discovering what they really wanted together. It was funny and heartfelt and was tugging at my heart. I loved getting to see old favorites and can't wait to get more in this series!

Nora's the events planner at a resort when a rigid, bossy Theo sweeps in and tries to tell her how to plan the resort's newest event - the World Bartender Championships. But Theo's family owns and runs the sponsor, so he thinks it means he gets to tell her how to plan everything. Now these two enemies are clashing all over the resort, trying their hardest to deny that beneath their antagonism is an attraction neither wants to acknowledge until it can't help but be indulged in.

This is the kind of rom-com that makes me love enemies to lovers so much. Fun, witty and brimming with tension. I love Nora and Theo together!

This is book five of the Paradise Bay series and the main characters are Nora Cooper, an event planner at the Paradise Bay Resort, and Theo Rojas, whose family own Rojas Rum amongst many other premium liquors. Nora thought her shot at the big time had arrived with the resort being chosen to host the World Bartending Championships and Nora is to head up the hospitality team. The resort is on one of the Benavente Islands of the South Caribbean. Her only problem is that Theo wants in on every decision and choice she makes about hosting the event and won’t leave her to just do her job! His family are the main sponsors of the event and he thinks that means he can be onsite all the time and mess with whatever she tries to do to make the event a success. The author has written this story as an homage to a female author of old, with an obvious modern twist. Nora has given up on romance but whenever she visits family that is the first thing they will ask her about and all they can focus on. She is more focussed on her career and the big event coming up, thank you very much! Her parents want her to even get her aimless younger sister Kat a job at the resort, but she will only do so if she can be far away from her event. Rojas Rum has just had a PR disaster after a movie star was caught drink driving, and staggering along the road being tested for sobriety, whilst heavily inebriated and clasping a bottle of their rum in his hand! This has caused tons of protests around the world and could damage the brand and has already caused a large dip in sales. The star was his younger brother Markos’ idea and since he does nothing but act like a playboy, he never should have listened to him!
All the pressure of the business and all of its employees has been on Theo’s shoulders since their father died some six years before. Markos has brought Carolina Armas, whose family owns Armas News Corporation, to see him. The last thing Theo wants is a favour from her, as he knows exactly what she really wants, but she has an idea to help their company. Her newest pet project is X-Stream TV and it is televising the World Bartending Championships and they need a sponsor after the original one pulled out. Not that Theo will take any of his brother or Carolina’s suggestions as being right for the company. Another disaster soon leave shim no choice but to sponsor the event, but ensure he is onsite the whole time to ensure no more negative press gets out about their brand, and also to hopefully bring a new and younger audience to the brand. His brother Markos might have been the better person to talk to such a crowd, since party life was just about all he did! Each of the contestants for the bartending competition have to take part in different challenges. One of final ones has to take part on a deserted island, which luckily Nora has arranged on the Island of Eden, which is an exclusive and private getaway the resort offer. On a trip to check out the flora, fauna and shooting locations, Nora and Theo get stranded on the island as a tropical storm hits early. Her feelings and attitude towards him change as she gets to know the real man behind his business persona and they spend the evening playing cards. More could have happened, but he has to stand by his no fraternisation rule for the event, plus he will be leaving soon.
She has forgotten all the nasty things she wanted to say to him once they were alone, but his arrogant attitude and coming from money, will soon raise they head again. Nora has had to take on her younger sister Kat as her intern, but didn’t trust her to do much of anything, leaving her busy on her phone or watching the contestants for a bit of eye candy. Everything has to go perfectly if she is to have a chance at the promotion she has been working towards for years. She can’t fall for Theo, however nice he was when they were stuck on the island. She has her own future planned out already, with a dream of a small cottage by the sea. She will have to face the obnoxious Carolina, who wants Theo for herself, and has low opinions of the help! Add to that her sister flirting with anything that moves, which leaves her in an exposed position with a contestant, who ends up wanting more from her. Nora has to try and hold everything together as a couple of disasters strike, and are laid wholly at her feet. She has no one she can rely on to help with her sister’s situation, finding it too embarrassing to ask for help from their church leading parents, or even her aunt and uncle. The person she least expects comes to her aid, but doesn’t want her to feel obliged to reciprocate. Lots of nods to another tale in parts and a story with a HEA ending, despite all the pitfalls that occur along the way. Sometimes the truth is hard to believe, but some people are good at telling lies, whilst others are more straightforward in their approach. Beware the smooth talking and good looking ones, especially if they are after a better life or money! A cautionary tale for all, with romance, division, competitive attitudes and more. I received an ARC copy of this book from BookSprout and I have freely given my own opinion of the book above.

You often hear about books being entertained and funny , you read it and then you’re disappointed because it just didn’t hit the spit BUT THIS IS JOT THE CASE this time round ! I laughed al hard and the first time Nora tickled me funny bone I snorted my morning coffee and let me tell you a latte through your nostril is not very dignified 😱😂

Nora works as an events coordinator at a resort and they’re about to host a huge event almost like a “ cocktail bartender survivor “ , the main sponsor, Theo is trying to save his family company , Rojas, by attracting the younger generation to their brand so he’s rather intense when it comes to arrangements, rules and regulations and that really irks our Nora and sometimes she thinks he’s quite haughty but these two are highly entertaining 😂

Do yourself a favour make a pina colada or mojito , sit back and chill with this read, watch as things are shaken and stirred 😉😂

Nora and Theo . . .

Nora Cooper finally sees her big chance! A resort is hosting the World Bartender Championships and she was invited to manage the hospitality team. She’s a control freak and a workaholic – she knows she can do this! Then she meets Theo Rojas of Rojas Rum who is also a control freak and rude. She even overhears his comments about her to his brother, and they are not flattering.

From a shaky beginning, Nora and Theo struggle to protect their professional reputations as they do their own thing to get what they want. A storm that strands them on an island is where they take the time to notice each other. But even when the attraction becomes real, others work to pull them apart. Can Theo prove himself and convince Nora to give him a chance? Are they what each other needs? Or are they too alike to make it work?

When she's asked to take charge of planning for the upcoming World Bartending Championship hosted by Paradise Bay Resort, events coordinator Nora Cooper couldn't be more thrilled. After all, a successful event will mean more bookings for the resort and, Nora hopes, a promotion for her. Her job gets a bit more complicated when her mother shows up at the resort with her teenaged sister Kat in tow, hoping to find her a job. Nora's boss loves the idea of taking on an unpaid intern and assigns Kat to help Nora with the upcoming event. Nora just hopes she can convince her flighty sister to focus on something other than boys for long enough not to ruin her chances of getting the promotion.

Meanwhile, Theo Rojas and his 170-year-old family-owned liquor company, Rojas Rum, are in the middle of a PR firestorm after their former spokesperson, a famous actor, was filmed making controversial remarks while being arrested for DUI. They're losing business at an alarming rate, and if Theo can't turn things around soon, Rojas Rum will be faced with massive layoffs. Family friend Carolina Armas comes to him with a proposal that might generate some much-needed positive publicity: her family's TV network is broadcasting the World Bartending Championship and needs an official liquor sponsor. Against his better judgment, Theo agrees, but decides to head to Paradise Bay and oversee the competition himself to make sure nothing else goes wrong to tarnish his company's reputation. He clashes with Nora almost immediately, but she'll do whatever it takes to show Theo (and everyone else) that she has the situation under control.

"Pride and Pina Coladas" was a truly great enemies-to-lovers romance. Nora and Theo had fantastic chemistry from the moment they met; I could almost see the sparks between them flying off the page. This is the second Caribbean-set "Pride and Prejudice" retelling I've read this year, and it's impossible not to compare the two. IMO, this one comes out the winner for several reasons, the main one being that Theo is a much more likeable and sympathetic male lead than the hero of the other book. (It helps that this book was told in dual POV, while the other book was single POV from the heroine's perspective.)

I highly recommend this funny, sweet, and heartwarming story for all fans of contemporary romance and romantic comedy. Melanie Summers never lets me down when I need a feel-good read, and I can't wait to get my hands on her next book! (Please let it be a story for Theo's younger brother Markos...)

Pride and Prejudice remakes are very hard to mess up and I was pleased about this modern take. I hadn't read any of the previous series books, but Pride and Pina Coladas worked well as a standalone. Theo was so swoon-worthy in my opinion, I loved that he was so devoted to his family legacy despite the personal cost. Carolina in the book was just as annoying as Caroline in P & P as well as the shady bartender meant to be Wickham. The plot was predictable, but I had fun along the way. Nora wasn't my favorite at first, but she did grow on me. A few of the past books were alluded to and they sounded interesting enough for me to check out soon.

This is book 5 of the Paradise Bay series, but can also be read as a standalone. It is a fun and entertaining beach read, and a clever retelling of Pride and Prejudice. I always love me a good P&P retelling! Nora is an events planner at the Paradise Bay Resort. The resort will be hosting the World Bartending Championship and Theo will be the sponsor for this event. His multinational rum company is sorely in need of a relaunch after facing some scandal, and this competition might just help save his company. In true Darcy style, Theo is uptight and arrogant, wanting to have a close eye on everything during the event. Of course he and Nora do not get off on the right foot, him being so controlling and arrogant. But when they make a trip to a private island where the finale of the competition will be held, a storm prevents them from heading back to the mainland. Their forced time together gives them an opportunity to get to know each other better and see each other in a new light. Although they come to an understanding about one another, other forces still try to pull them apart.
I really enjoyed this contemporary spin on one of my favorite classics. It was well-done and highly entertaining and I am so glad to have had the opportunity to read it.

I was hooked on the story line for Pride and Pina Coladas. The characters are full of life. The main characters come from different backgrounds, but make it work to their advantages.

Theo Rojas inherited the family business. He was raised and expected to take over and run the business after his father’s retirement. He has to struggle through a bad publicity stunt. He blames his younger brother for the misstep. Theo is leery of his brother’s next suggestion to improve the company’s sales and rebuild their reputation. He decides to oversee the competition that is set to improve Rojas Rum.

Nora Cooper has been working hard for an advancement in her job. She loves working for the local hotel as an events coordinator. She is thrown for a loop by her own mother pitching for her to hire her younger sister. Nora tries to do too much by herself when she is put in charge of a large event.

Second book I have read by Melanie. I could not put this one down! Stayed up way too late into the morning reading this. Thankfully this can easily be read as a standalone within a series.
Events coordinator, championship bartenders, private island, rich people; what more could you want?
Nora Cooper is the events coordinator for the big world championship bartender competition that is taking place at the resort she works at.
Theo Rojas is the president of the Rojas Rum company that is now sponsoring this event. He was talked into it by a friend of the family because of the earlier scandal that took place. He’s super worried about things happening so he stays at the resort to make sure things run smoothly. Unfortunately he’s super rude right away so him and Nora become enemies.
This book had a couple twists and turns I was not expecting which was nice.
I did enjoy the witty banter between Nora and Theo and the character development that a couple of these characters showed. The ending was interesting and perfect for these two!

Even if you are not a huge Jane Austen fan, Pride and Pina Coladas is sure to bring you entertainment. Nora is an event planner in charge of the World Bartending Championship, and Theo is the corporate CEO sponsoring the event. Even though they butt heads throughout the book, their chemistry is evident and creates some hilarious situations.

I received this book free from NetGalley in exchange for my honest and unbiased opinion.

Another fun book

I say this every review but I love Melanie Summers books. They are just always consistently enjoyable. I have to admit at first this one I was not loving the characters like I normally do but they came around and the personalities were pertinent to the story and it was a good story! Already looking forward to the next one.

This is a 33- chapter story of Nora and Theo. Nora worked to arrange the event for Theo's company . They started off on the wrong foot, with Theo criticizing Nora about her appearance (sound familiar?).

Yes, this was a sweet, clean variation of the classic. It has the pride, arrogance, proposals and the drama. I loved the way the author showed the development of their feelings and the subtle humor embebded in the story,

It was lengthy but one will not get bored from this delightful page turner, So glad the author made the title close to the original, otherwise I would have missed this chance to read this refreshing variation.

Highly recommend to P & P fans.

I’m so happy to be back to Paradise Bay! One of my favorite aspects of this trope is that despite being a billionaire, that’s not the focus of Theo’s character. The story unfolds as we witness Nora and Theo battle with their attraction while clinging to their respective work ethics. I was particularly happy with the insights from the Bartender Championship contenders, which added an extra layer of fun to the story.

I am glad the title is close to the original's title, as this enticed my interest. This is the story of Nora and the rich, arrogant Theo.

This is my first book to read from this author. And the story, and characters didn't disappoint. The stiory has the insult, the longing, the rejection and scandal patterned with the classic but made refereshingly new and contemporary.

Enjoyed the comedy and sweet but clean moments between the two. It has 33 engrossing chapters that will keep you to your seats.

I highly recommend for P & P fans.

Pride and Piña Coladas was such a fun read! It was my vacation beach book, which was perfect because I read it in the Bahamas. I really loved the grumpy/sunshine love story.

The only thing I didn’t like is the animosity between women in the story. For such a likeable heroine, she made a lot of enemies and the friction with her colleague was never explained. Also, some of the male dialogue wasn’t convincing. “My heart belongs to another” doesn’t sound like something a man would say.

Despite these two issues, I really enjoyed this book and now need to go read the entire series!

A welcome return to Paradise Bay. In a retelling of the renowned Austen story, this story focuses on Paradise Bay's event coordinator, Nora Cooper as she prepares for what could be her big break into management at the resort. Tasked with overseeing the World Bartending Championship, she immediately butts heads with Theo Rojas, owner of the liquor sponsor, who's in damage repair for his ailing brand. Theo is grumpy, rich, and seemingly entitled, in fact, everything that Nora hates.

From the moment Theo and Nora appeared on the page I loved them both. And when they met? I absolutely ADORED their banter. Both could be really frustrating at times with their assumptions about the other, but to be fair, that's pretty faithful to Austen. Nora is definitely 'Captain Jumps To Conclusions' at times. 😉 The scene with them shouting insults at each other was absolutely hilarious, and I cried laughing at Nora's attempt at a telephone loan application. Her 'To Do' lists were also painfully relatable, especially regarding her plants. I really enjoyed the development of both of their siblings, and the ending was an absolute delight. If I have one teensy gripe, it's that I'd love to have read more of them together as a couple, so hopefully, they'll pop up again in book 6.

There are, of course, several welcome cameos from the other residents of Paradise Cove (Hadley and Heath in particular), and I cannot wait to read the final instalment in this series (although saying final makes me sad).

Nora finally had the chance to get that big promotion she always wanted. As long as the latest event she’s handling goes off smoothly, she’s in with a chance!
Theo Rojas has reluctantly decided to sponsor the World Bartending Championships, but he’s personally going to oversee that there are no more mishaps or controversies that can affect the Rojas Rum name.

What starts with Theo accidentally offending Nora and being an all round demanding and annoying guest, soon turns into two people who’s preconceived ideas about each other getting challenged. Nora starts to realise that underneath the brusque and often rude exterior, Theo is actually very hardworking and sweet. Theo also realises that while Nora may be working on a tiny island, her work ethic and ability to solve problems is amazing.

My favourite part about this book is definitely the easy flowing words and the character growth for the protagonists. Both Theo and Nora’s characters seem to take the positives from each other and become well rounded. I also loved the fact that the book starts with a line very similar to Pride and Prejudice so everyone who loved that classic will find themselves nostalgic about it. As a modernised version of the classic I think it’s very well adapted and works beautifully on its own!

Nora is the event coordinator for the “American Idol” elimination style global bartending event at the Paradise Bay resort, located in the fictional Caribbean Benevente Islands (they sort of look like a reverse Hawaiian Islands on a map). This event needs to go smoothly for Nora to be considered for a major promotion. Unfortunately, her wild little sister has barged in as her intern. Theo Rojas is the CEO of Rojas Rum, a suddenly struggling brand because of a celebrity partnership gone wrong. His brand is sponsoring the contest and he also needs the event to be perfect. Also, unfortunately, his brother (who got the company into its current mess) is also “helping” him at the resort. Nora and Theo are both Type-A personalities with a lot to lose, although Theo starts off presenting himself as an arrogant, rude, snobby a-hole to Nora. Of course, they’ll eventually be put together in some awful situation (perhaps on a deserted tropical island!) and become attracted to each other.

This modern day retelling of Pride and Prejudice has two POVs, so the reader is convinced, long before the characters are, that both Nora and Theo have a lot of attractive qualities. The writing is witty and delightful. There are amusing chapter titles (“Lemur Stink Fights Masquerading as Civilized Meetings”) with cute narrator specific graphics (Theo is a bottle of rum; Nora is a piña colada). I loved the illustrated maps, resort PR, secret island of Eden ad (only $24,449 per night!), and invite to the 2022 World Bartending Championship Mixer — all great additions to an ebook. The story line is familiar, but Ms. Summers’s Caribbean spin on the Austen tale is so enjoyable and enchanting. Reading the original “Pride and Prejudice” was a high school homework bore — this version should be enjoyed with a fruity rum drink at hand. 5 stars for this guilty pleasure!

This book is the 5th in the Paradise Beach series, and I must go back to finding the previous installments like “Resting Beach Face” 😂 The series is an Amazon exclusive, and will be free to Kindle Unlimited subscribers.

Thank you to Xpresso Book Tours and NetGalley for an advanced reader copy in exchange for an honest review!

Literary Pet Peeve Checklist:
Green Eyes (only 2% of the real world, yet it seems like 90% of all fictional females): YES That would be the Darcy-ish Theo.
Horticultural Faux Pas (plants out of season or growing zones, like daffodils in autumn or bougainvillea in Alaska): NO But Nora is a houseplant serial killer and should be banned from plant stores, but she aspires to have a garden and a greenhouse someday.

I didn't realize this was part of a series when I requested to read the book - but it was easily read as a stand alone story.

This was a fun story to follow - bartenders having a world-wide competition. The story follows a couple storylines - Theo is CEO of a successful but shamed rum company - trying to come back from an embarrassing fallout with their main face of advertisement. Nora is on the path for a big promotion at the resort where she is an events planner -- however, this contest is trying her patience and professionalism. Her sister, Kat, is her intern and messes everything she does up. Of course, there is romance and drinks and a couple villains.

Great read

This series is a favorite of mine. I loved revisiting Paradise Bay again. Each book is always a unique but funtastic story and always leave the reader wanting more.
