Gosh, I don’t know where to start with this one. It started out reading like a typical harlequin cheesy romance novel until the end where it got really weird. I spent much of the time rolling my eyes while reading this one. I like cheesy romance novels, but with this one I felt like the language was forced which made it difficult for me to get into. The ending is where this one takes the cake. It went from typical white girl falls for Indian lover to some paranormal crap coming out of left field. There were some clues that there may be some paranormal activity at work, but not to the extent where it was taken at the end.

Karen Kay’s, The Princess and the Wolf was a splendid, enjoyable read. High Wolf and Princess Sierra’s Love was so great, it stayed an eternal flame, even though years and continents kept them apart for a time. One of my most favorite lines from the whole book was at the end.
“For indeed, friendship had proved to be stronger than the fiercest of hatreds.”
I could add here, Love is also stronger than the fiercest of hatreds, after all that had been done to stop Princess Sierra and High Wolf from being together had failed, entirely. Love Conquers All.

The script was too elegant, too flowery. Alas this, alas that, too much!
And the poetic way that they are constantly professing their love, and calling each other my dear, my love, bleck. Again, too flowery.

Three best friends with a strong bond are put into an unacceptable situation. Forced to marry for family alliance and political reasons, all three make a plan of escape. Unfortunately, things do not go as planned. Even worse, a man who is trusted, because that is the way the society believed in things, turns out not to be trustworthy. He is in fact evil!
I only wish there had been a bit of the book, even a brief look, between the set up and ten years later.
While we do get to see glimpses later, I would have liked a little bit sooner.
Wow- ten years of being married, yet not. Of feeling the ultimate betrayal and total misunderstanding. And oh- the attraction that does not die!
I enjoyed and was at times annoyed by this interesting historical novel.
I loved the strength of the characters and the situations their author made them endure.
I think this is an under presented aspect of history.
I only wish there had been a bit of the book, even a brief look, between the set up and ten years later.

WOW, this book.
Though loosely based on historical events (per a note at the beginning of the book), the story was incredibly unique. Having read A LOT of Native romances, this was extremely refreshing to read this spin on the trope.
I REALLY liked High Wolf. He wasn't shy about saying the perfect things at the perfect times when it came to Sierra. She knew exactly how he felt about her, even when he tried to hate her.
It's clear that Karen did her research for this book, which is always appreciated in historiccals.
But my FAVOTIRE thing about this book was the one part towards the end that literally brought tears to my eyes. Being as jaded as I am, that it not an easy thing to do with a book, but this one certainly did and I have a feeling I'll be forever hooked ok Karen Kay books!

Slow burn, slow-paced, and too much tug of war with hate/want the other. Princess Sierra was too hooked on the title princess, but not sure if that was the writer looking to increase word count, or to make her seem not down to earth. Maria, the maid, was nothing more than an echoing parrot, repeating most of what the princess said. High Wolf, or Ho'neoxhaa'eho'ese (loved his Cheyenne name was included), changes his mind like the wind changes direction. Other than being told, there was not a lot distinguishing him as being Cheyenne versus another tribe. I did like the inclusion of the mourning song. I did like Sierra's reasoning for going after the prince, and the timing that it was revealed. I like the uniqueness of the three friends.

2.5 stars. The story and events were too shallow. Too much about their lost 10 yrs when they were but teenagers. And then they reunite and they're instantly soul mates?!? Not one of her better books.
