This Marvel podcast has it all: inventive storytelling for audio, with Cora the Rigellian Recorder embodying a convenient plot device who provides much of the scene-setting and voiceover from the graphic novel source material; top notch production quality with full cast, soundtrack, and sound effects; and A-list voice acting and writing. I loved Danny Glover and Vanessa Williams as Red Crotter and the White Queen. But by far the best lines and voice is Rocket's--Chris Elliott, from "Schitt's Creek", whose emotional range is staggering. I really believed the bromance between Peter Quill and Rocket, one of Marvel's best, and author Benjamin Percy outdoes himself with their snappy dialogue. The plot is non-stop action, a quest that morphs into so much more, and though the final twist was a bit info-dumpy, and I saw the outcome of the boss fight a mile off, I look forward to the rest of the Wastelanders saga.

Very entertaining on long car journeys. Good use of Cora to explain what’s going on to the reader! The only downside was that I’ve only watched the MCU films and read very few comics so I was a confused at a handful of times about certain lore, but it wasn’t enough to ruin the experience! Next up: Wastelanders Hawkeye….

Having read Guardians of the Galaxy & X-Men: The Black Vortex (but rather than the reading the collected issues via graphic novel, the individual issues, as is my preference!) nearly a decade ago, and having enjoyed that galactic-adventure very much, I was intrigued when Star Lord and Rocket are commissioned to find the titular cosmic artifact, wondering if there would be any connection of the Black Vortex's appearance in this alternate future to the one from the main Earth-616 based comic series. There really wasn't, but the story was enjoyable all the same, especially from the perspective of establishing part of the status quo of the former United States. But rather than dwell on what this wasn't, I'll spend a few words describing what it was.

This fully dramatized audio adventure had some excellent voice casting, although I agree with other reviewers that Peter Quill and Rocket sounded too similar at first, making it hard to figure out who was who in the beginning chapter, until I established enough context clues (Rocket loves the f word--flark, of course, what f word were you thinking?) to separate them. The appearance of a major X-Men villain turned hero in this alternate future was a very welcome inclusion for this X-Men-ophile.

It was a solid story and some of the early story elements had their payoff at the end, setting up no doubt the next installment in the series but also delivering satisfying, if not emotional and poignantly sad and redeeming, final scenes.

This podcast is the first of a new series that takes place in an apocalyptic world, 30 years after the fall of the Avengers and X-Men heroes. It is obviously inspired by the graphic novel series Old Man Logan but isn't necessarily following that storyline. This series will eventually include seasons about Hawkeye, Black Widow, Doctor Doom and Wolverine.

In this season, Peter Quill and Rocket are sent to Earth on a mercenary mission, under threat of death to find a sacred object called the Black Vortex, just to find Earth in ruins and controlled by Doctor Doom. An alien-created “skinbot”, nicknamed Cora, accompanies them, and it is through her narration of record-keeping that we find out a lot of background information. Adventures ensue, and I am looking forward to future seasons to find out how the older scattered heroes are able to find one another and rise up against the villains who took over the world!

Despite being an old fan of Marvel comics, I was very skeptical approaching a Marvel audiobook. the italian dubbing does an amazing job at bringing to life the characters, especially Rocket!

I ended up loving the atmosphere and the more realistic storytelling. You dive into a magic realism set up rather than a super hero set up!

The ending is super well carved and, to a certain degree, unexpected. I have to say that the secondary characters introduced in the plot are extremely interesting exceptions made for Kraven. I really did not feel threatened by him.

Old Star Lord is amazingingly realistic, and Emma Frost is brilliant! Last but not least, the recording computer is an intriguing touch. Her role is amazing!

Came into this ready to blast through the first season to get to the characters I cared for more, but ended up really enjoying the dynamic between Star Lord, Rocket, and Cora. The world building in this is fantastic and rich with little goodies. Rocket and Cora really steal the show for me, and the ending was expected but still shocking. I really can't wait to continue this series.

Also the sound design is spectacular! Really loved how narration and radio bits were used in this. And the surprise appearance of Emma Frost really geeked me. Whoever voiced her should voice her for eternity.

I’m genuinely obsessed with these Marvel podcasts! This one in particular was super fun and full of humor. The voice acting, yet again, is phenomenal. I especially loved Vanessa Williams, duh! And I actually appreciate and enjoy the Star-Lord character even more now that I don’t fully associate him with Chris Pratt. A win all around!

I started the year listening this audiobook/podcast on Spotify.

Great story, sound design & mix production, and actors! I think this is a small step for me in the audiobook territory and this year changes will be made in how I "read" books. Hooray!

Engaging and compelling marvel audio. Star Lords sounds distractingly like Jeff Goldblum, but Rocket is on point. Emma Frost is also a standout of this series, and the sound design and music is stellar

Excellent sound effects, great voice actors, an interesting premise for the story and some clever ideas... but it is bloated and slow moving. This could be half the length and would be a much better story for it.

Quite boring and bad narration in the audio book. It was promoted but the choices of the cast was bad ! Said Ali Khan did a bad job and so did the Rocket character.

I listened to the audio version of the book in Hindi. It was good but the mumbaiya tone for Rocket was a but too much. I don’t know why the translators need to do such things. It was fun though.
