Alpha-Phonics Audio Lessons Pronunciation CD Rom

Rate this book
Alpha-Phonics Audio Lessons and pronunciation 2-CD Samuel L. Blumenfeld speaks all the lessons in his celebrated Alpha-Phonics A Primer for Beginning readers which has been used by hundreds of thousands for over 30 years. On this 2-CD set Sam speaks all the lesson material, lesson by lesson. In the process he pronounces all words/sounds that are key to the student learning how to sound out the words he/she is attempting reading, which is the key to learn to read. What the parent-teacher gets on these 2 CD's, in effect, is the INSTRUCTIONS that are printed in Sam's book Alpha-Phonics. And they are in SOUND. The parent who has any difficulties or questions about pronouncing the sounds being taught to her student will find the CD's an excellent guide to the pronunciation she is teaching the student. These CD's are reproductions of audio tapes made many years ago so are not as perfect as would be the case if recorded today on more modern equipment. But they have done a good job of helping many parents and teachers over the years. One of the main reasons we have kept this sound track is that it includes the Introductory Information spoken by Sam. This is very interesting and important information, especially for the parent/teacher. Included by Sam 1.) Our Alphabetic its history and development , 2.) Teaching The Alphabet, 3.) Teaching The Letter Sounds, 4.) Some Practical Suggestions, 5.) Isolating the Letter Sounds. The Order of Lessons follows these very instructional spoken sections. ALL 128 Lessons in Alpha-Phonics are explained in these CD lessons, every bit of ground is covered, just like on the printed instruction pages of Alpha-Phonics. Following the 128 Lessons is a section on the English Alphabetic System and a section on Introducing the Cursive alphabet. While most parents are able to teach their children to read with only the Alpha-Phonics book these optional CD's have proven to be very helpful to the parent who is just a little unsure of themselves in being able to correctly pronounce the words their student is learning to read. The CD's are especially important to the parent who learned English as a second language or has, for some other reason, difficulty reproducing the sounds as clearly as she might wish. The combination of the CD set and Alpha-Phonics is nearly fool-proof material to teach anyone to read very well. While the information contained on the two CD's is very complete we must note that it is still quite important for the student to have the VISUAL presentation contained in the instruction book Alpha-Phonics. Attempting to use the 2-CD audio set alone would not work very well. If the parent is deciding to use only the book Alpha-Phonics or the 2-CD Audio set we would strongly advise using the Alplha-Phonics BOOK only. For the very best results the parent who has the Alpha-Phonics instruction book can, with the 2-CD audio lessons, listen to one lesson at a time while seeing the corresponding material in her book. It only takes a few minutes to prepare this way to teach the material to her student. This will prepare the teacher to be able to easily instruct her student quickly and easily; AND successfully! We apologize to any purchaser who felt they had gotten a lecture by the author rather than the lessons, including the pronunciation of sounds. Any parent who is not interested in the Introductory material spoken by Sam Blumenfeld can simply skip the introductory material and move forward to the actual instruction lessons.

I have used this book to teach five of my children to read and it is very teacher friendly.

The fact that it is phonics based allows the students to learn the sounds of letters and digraphs so that they can encounter new words in the future and be able to easily sound them out.

The book begins with single letter sounds like the soft 'a' and then when they get that concept- that each letter has at least one sound, they begin to blend sounds like 'am' and then it moves on to put a sound in front of that 'am' and make it 'Sam.'

At the back of the book are the teacher's lessons which are concise and very helpful. Read each teacher's lesson for the corresponding reading lesson in less than a couple of minutes and you are ready to begin with your student.

It is an easy concept and makes learning to read a smooth event. If you are scared to teach your child to read this is going to be a very pleasant surprise.

Useful teaching tool for a child learning to read. My daughter can run through the lessons at her own pace. She enjoys these sequential lessons.

It has been extremely hard, teaching my five-year-old how to read. With my oldest son, I focused on math at this age, but my middle son is more interested in stories, acting, singing, and the arts. So, I have been trying for the last year to advance his reading a little earlier. He enters kindergarten this fall where they will begin to read, so I know this effort is a bit premature. I started with “How to teach your child to read in 15 minutes a day” and a plethora of alumni and Spectrum books, but none of them caught on like Alphaphonics. My husband used this old school text on our oldest son seven years ago, and I was able to find an old edition through Amazon. It really is the best phonics book out there: simple, straightforward, and consistent. My middle son has been able to learn to read simple sentences in just the first couple weeks of lessons. This is a must-have book for any parent teaching ages 4-6 how to read!

A good program. Progresses quickly. However it wasn't interesting enough for my child. He warns to not mix this program with another, but I found the need to introduce Bob books to show value and fun. The book is set up for a class setting and not conducive for an organic learning environment all on its own. I'll continue to use it but not stick to the guidance of using this book as a sole source of use.

I used this recently with a child who was not reading at all coming out of 2nd grade. After 3 weeks, he's now reading basic 3-and 4 letter words. While not yet at grade level, let's just say this is far beyond his school's expectations for him. And it's been great for his confidence.

This book gives you the basic concepts of teaching reading. I've heard that you can be flexible with lesson order and move more quickly to advanced words. I'll try that. I think what's important is that you get the concepts and then adjust for the kid you're working with.

Although Alpha-Phonics has been around for years, I did not have access to it when my children were learning to read. That is too bad. It would have saved us quite some tears and frustration.

Alpha-Phonics is a clear, simple, and inexpensive systematic phonics program that can be used on its own or in conjunction with another program. It is suitable for beginning readers and is also a resource for those who need special help.

The program consists of

---a book including both Student’s Lessons and a Teacher’s Manual, and
---a CD-ROM, complete with sound....

This system is absolutely the best in teaching reading to pre-schoolers and above. It is easy, effective and quick! I highly recommend it to parents.
