Trauma is more common than you think. Well over half of your friends, colleagues, and closest family members have experienced harrowing events in their lives. Maybe you have, too. Trauma can dwell in the body for years or even decades, unrecognized but draining your energy, happiness, and even your faith. But through all the numbness or pain you may feel, and all the hardships you experience, Allah is still there for you.
This book is a guide to understanding trauma and its far-reaching effects on the body, mind, and soul. With that understanding in place, we can recognize how it leads to cognitive biases and doubts around faith—and then begin to grow beyond these roadblocks and find contentment.
Amazing book that is a must-read for every Muslim. If someone has never been to therapy, then this is such a good place to start from. It's full of practical exercises and also helped me on a personal level understand some of my thinking patterns and where they stem from.
Perfect, perfect, perfect!! This book is a collection of all I was looking for in a self-help book, particularly discussing Cognitive behavioural therapy and the 10 cognitive distortions with knowledge, empathy, and a well of exercises, questions, and activities that help you navigate your emotions, better understand them, heal from them, and build up habits to lead a healthier life.
It involves spirituality and the Islamic viewpoint in a way I have not seen before. By using the Quran, Hadith, and Islamic philosophy, it drives home the counterpoints to a lot of common questions associated with not only doubts in faith but the patterns of thought riddling mood disorders.
This is my first read through of the book, and it's a book written and structured in a way to be a continuous companion and reference through the healing process. I pray I return to it often as I intend to ISA.
As I delve into the realm of self-help and healing books, I can't help but notice a common pattern. Many of these books provide words of comfort, but they frequently fall short of providing actual solutions to our most pressing issues. While affirmation is extremely reassuring, it does not provide us with the tools we need to conquer our issues. This is where excellent self-help books come into play. Recognizing that acknowledgement alone is insufficient, they go beyond the area of recognition to provide solutions and direction.
In "Your Lord Has Not Forsaken You," Najwa Awad and Sarah Sultan have attained this outstanding approach. They recognize the limitations of relying merely on consoling words, and they take a proactive approach by providing essential insights and helpful solutions for navigating the struggles of trauma and its effects on our faith.
What genuinely distinguishes this work is its courage to look under the surface. The writers bravely dive into the fundamental causes of trauma, giving step-by-step techniques that equip readers to confront their difficulties head-on. The authors give us the tools we need to continue on our recovery journey by presenting practical solutions
"Your Lord Has Not Forsaken You" acknowledges our desire for more than just consoling emotions. It recognizes our need for concrete tactics to help us through life's obstacles and achieve meaningful resolutions. This outstanding book meets that need by blending words of comfort with practical advice. With its remarkable approach and devotion to delivering actionable information, this book earns a well-deserved 5 out of 5 stars.
The book wish I had 30 years ago May Allah swt bless Srs Najwa and Sarah for blessing the Ummah with this knowledge I hope more people read this and implement the exercises It truly helped me with my traumas And the dua at the end is beautiful Ameen ya Rabb
Najwa Awad and Sarah Sultan explored the impact of Trauma on Faith in a profound way. I like how they broke down the chapters into different cognitive distortions, all with visuals, case studies of before and after for real individuals, and quoting various Authentic Hadiths and Quranic Verses shedding islamic insight into mental health matters. Most importantly, I like that I was challenged to workshop my thoughts, emotions, and life experiences through questions and exercises to more positively reframe my perspectives and alleviate the pain of my struggles.
SubhanAllah - this book was nowhere on my 'read-next' list, but it feels as if Allah swt wanted me to pick it up and read it. A very well-written book, a must-read for sure! May Allah bless the authors who worked hard to design and write a book like this.
