Forgotten City #2

Monstrous Truths

Rate this book
Thirty years ago the world as we know it was lost. Now humans live like rats, desperate for food and safety, the wall towering before us as a mocking reminder of what happened…

But some, some are born into privilege and wealth and I am one of those. I spend my days trying to change the world we live in, fighting for the truth as any good scientist does. However, when I am thrust through the wall I have to fight just to survive.

Hurt, alone and scared I run smack into the very creatures we are taught to fear.

A monster.

But this monster is intent on protecting me, even as I fear him.

Together we must delve into the past, to find the truth behind the monster's creation. The truth behind what happened all those years ago and when we do? It changes my entire future. The world crumbling around me, I cling to the only honest thing I find.

Him.

But when the humans decide they want their research, and their scientist back, I am ripped from the safety of his arms. Once more fighting to survive, I promise to find the truth, even if it costs me my life.

With my monster at my side, I will untangle the lies, I will find the truth and when I do? This whole Monstrous plan will come unravelled.

*Monstrous Truths is the second book in the Forgotten City Series, all the books can be read as a stand-alone and feature different characters but to fully enjoy the series I suggest reading the series in order.*

Better than the first book in the series!

The following ratings are out of 5:
Romance: 💙💚❤️💜💖
Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙📔
World building: 🌏🌍🌏🌍🌎
Character development: 🤓😉☺️😍🥰
Narration: 🎙🎙🎙🎙🎙
Narration Type: Dual Narration

The heroine: Talia - she comes from the wealthy part of the town in a post-apocalyptic world where the apocalyptic event was a huge war between monsters and humans. The monsters were winning the war, so humans built a wall around the city and now the monsters are stuck in the city. Humans thought they would starve them out, but the monsters thrive in the city. Talia is a scientist who wants to make the world a better place, especially for the poor. Her bosses say she can start doing that work, if she sneaks into the city and goes to a lab and gets them the research data they left behind.

The Hero: Cato - He was trained as a warrior monster, but ended up leaving that group because he was interested in learning everything he could about their species and the humans. He gradually moved up and is now the leader of the group of thinkers.

The Story: Talia is captured by Cato and finds out that she has been lied to her entire life. The monsters are not aliens that came down and fought against humans, they were created by her bosses and the humans they worked with. They were genetically altered humans, grown in the lab, experimented on, tortured and were only fighting for their freedom. That her bosses and the human military have never stopped and plan on doing even worse and they don’t want word to get out about what they have done and are doing.

I didn’t think I would like this one as much as the first since I knew a lot of the scenes would be the same as in the first book Monstrous Lies, but I ended up liking it even more than the first. I really liked the characters and I loved the fact that this one was centered around science, research and knowledge.

So many books like this with monsters, or aliens are centered around warriors and fighting, which the first book was like. This one was completely different and I really liked Talia and Cato and the world Cato lives in which was actually pretty different than the world Akuji lives in, though they live in the same city.

I loved all the action in this book and the fact that they were doing research and looking into what the company was trying to do when the created the monsters and what they were working on when the war began 30 years ago. This book was interesting from the very beginning and it kept me intrigued throughout the story.

This audiobook was told in dual points of view via dual narration. It was narrated by Tor Thom and Kasi Hollowell. I love Tor Thom, he has a super deep voice which works great for the monsters in this series. Kasi Hollowell has a nice voice and is great at showing her emotion through her voice.

Awesome second chapter in the dystopian monster series by KA Knight. Super slow burn that still manages to be extremely spicy the whole way through. The storyline is super interesting with fantastic world building. Can't wait to get my hands on the final chapter!

“Who knew that all it would take for me to lean on someone and trust them again would be a seven-foot red monster with a forked tongue and tail?” 😂

Forgotten city book 2!! This is Talia & Cato’s story. We got to meet both of these characters in the first book, it starts from the beginning but fills in the blanks and is told from their POV’s. Love multiple POV 😍

“Don’t you know not to run from a predator, Tally? We always catch our prey.” 😜

I absolutely love Cato, he is so swoon worthy and he adores Tally soo much. I love how these big scary monsters (with forked tongues 😜) become so vulnerable and such big softies for these women. It literally melts your heart. BUT then there is all that glorious smut 🥵😍 guys, it’s hot. Tally is one lucky lady!! I love how Cato and Tally bond over their love for science, it’s super cute and makes you love them more. They are so perfect for each other. I really like Tally too, seeing her character growth from the beginning where she was a scared, shaken, mess then changes throughout to be bold and fierce. She fights for those she loves and cares about.

The ending of this book is everything 🥰🙌🏼🖤

That snippet at the end about Samael and the other woman!! I’m SO ready for the final instalment in this series 🙌🏼🖤

Monstrous Truth by K.A. Knight

I Give this Book a Decent Solid 4/5 Star Rating

HEA(?): Yes
Relationship Type: MF
Heat: 3/5, it’s more plot focused.
Romance: 4/5
Pacing: Mid throughout
Dark(?): No
Drama: 4.5/5
Suspense: 3/5

The book is a different POV but is from the same exact time in the first book of this series.
This was a deeper story cause you get the scientific part of it and more answers so you understand what was/is going on.
Cato & Talia make a great pair and mates, they help flesh out the story more and makes the story clearer.
It’s an intriguing universe, I’m curious if there will be more books coming out in this universe besides the finale of the trilogy.

5/5🔥

MF/dual POV/standalone/HEA/monster romance/dystopian/paranormal/fated mates

Standalone book two in the Forgotten City Series. While you do not have to read book one, I do recommend reading these in order for a better reading experience! This book follows Talia and Cato. If you’ve read book one ‘Monstrous Lies’, this book does back track so you can see where and what Talia was doing before she is introduced in Monstrous Lies.

Talia has always been looked down on being a female in a male dominated profession, but she loves her job, so she keeps her head down and hopes one day she will get the chance to prove herself a worthy scientist. When that opportunity arises, she really has no idea what shes getting herself into, but its the only chance shes been given, so she’s definitely not going to turn in down. Even if it does involve going over the wall and fighting to survive.

Cato, the leader of his tribe, hears Talia running through his territory hurt and crying and feels an immediate fierce need to protect her. It obvious she’s scared of him but even the thought of her hurting and upset makes him see red. As she starts to realize he won’t harm her, she starts to be more comfortable around him. His people not so much. Even as he keeps her safely hidden away in his home, he knows if his tribe finds her they will want her dead.

When Talia finds out Cato has some of the lab files and samples she was missing, they start to bond over trying to understand the research Talia was sent over wall to retrieve. As they start to uncover more secrets and start to piece together what was actually happening in the underground labs… Talia has to decide if she will return the research that was left behind or if returning it will doom them all…

I really enjoyed getting more of Talia’s story and her background. I loved watching her character growth throughout this book. I loved Cato’s approach to Talia and how he was very cognitive of her feelings and safety. While they both felt the fierce connection brewing between them, it took them a little longer to act on it but when they did 🔥🔥 Even though we weren’t exactly left with a cliffhanger from book one, this book definitely adds to world building and plot of this series overall. We got more answers in this book that really sets us up for book 3 and I can’t wait!

My feelings:

I seriously love Ka Knight. I don’t think she could write something that I didn't like. This book gave me, Smut, Monsters, Romance, Action and a great storyline.

You make me crazy in the best possible way. You make me believe in something beyond only what we can prove and see. You make me believe in love, in happiness, and in the future.

In this book we got the story of Arias friend Talia when she was taken by Cato. After book 1 we already know that Cato and Talia are mates, we now we get to learn there story, and some more about the reporter who was picked up by the mean monster.

“I realised it that night. I could never let you go, not even if that’s what you wanted. You are mine to keep, mine to mate, touch, and kiss. You are mine, and there is not a place in this world where you could ever escape from me. Even if we haven’t fully mated yet, that doesn’t matter to me, all that does is that you hold my very soul, my heart, in your tiny human hands, and I willingly put them there. If you are mine, then I am yours with every fibre of my being.”

I really enjoyed this story, its one thing to read about strong, crazy male monsters who can win any battle, but we never get a story about the one who are less angry and a lot more nerdy. And this was it. And I loved every single part of it. Highly recommend.

❤️🔥ARC REVIEW🔥❤️

Once again Katie has smashed it!!! I’m ridiculously in love with a seven foot, forked tongue, red monster. I thought I loved Red from Monstrous Lies but Cato has stolen my heart 🥹
I was so excited to read Cato and Talia’s story! Not only was this beautiful but it was also heartbreaking and it showed that humans really are the monsters in this series. The sick and twisted things they’ve done to the monsters and humans made my heart break. It makes me sick now they can be so cruel and careless of so many innocent people.
Cato and Talia were meant to be, on the outside one is monster and one is human… but on the inside they’re both monster and they’re alike in so many ways. They’re both incredibly smart and will research sunrise til sunset over and over again to get answers. I love their passion and determination to fight the humans and to make them pay for what they’ve done. When Talia smashed up the lab I was literally cheering!! It was soul crushing learning about all of the awful things the humans had done to create the humans and to create a superior race. It all sounds absolutely nuts, like those men are absolutely crazy! Some power hungry nut jobs who think it’s fun to play God and ruin so many peoples lives. There’s more cock in their personality than in their pants… they’ve probably all got small dick syndrome so they hate how hung the monsters are and that the monsters live to give their mates pleasure. Sorry I had to make a joke there as those monsters truly are HUNG… all I can say is ‘who’s horse is that?’ 🤣
Back to being serious… It’s absolutely disgusting to know that there are actual people like this in the real world, sick and twisted men who will constantly belittle women and make us feel worthless. If you want a story that will flip you upside down and make you question everything about the world in this story and our own human world then read this!!
The ending was another cruel cliffhanger and I’m beyond desperate for book 3!!! I loved that bonus scene, I’m over the moon for Cato and Talia 🥹 My heart is filled with love and joy!!

Loved It Just As Much As Book One ❤️❤️❤️

Katie has seriously done it again. OMG this series is so freaking awesome!! I love everything about it. The amazing characters and storylines she has created between this book and book one are perfect. I absolutely love how creative she gets in creating the worlds she does. This is quickly moving to the top of my KA Knight fave list with Their Champion Series’.

This is Cato and Talia’s story and it is so sweet and beautiful. I am so in love with these two. They are so perfectly matched it’s wonderful. Both are scientists and both are determined to make things better for their people. Talia has had to fight to be where she’s at and to this day her human male colleagues still do not take her seriously. So when they send her out to the field to retrieve lost data she thinks she’s finally being given the chance she deserves. But things are not as they seam. Cato senses and hears her before he even sees her and knows there’s something about her. So when he saves her and takes her in he finds he can’t let her go. She has stollen every bit of him heart and soul by just being her. Their story isn’t all sweet and perfect. They do have to face a lot of obstacles and judgment and lots of danger before they can have their absolutely beautiful HEA.

This book is an absolute must read just like book one was and is. It has a very protective and possessive alpha monster and an innocent yet naive sassy and fierce female human. Both you can’t help falling in love with. I am so looking forward to the final book and am seriously hoping it’s the Journalist and Samael’s story since they’re who we saw at the end of this. Highly recommend this series!!

Monstrous Truths is a fantastic addition to the Forgotten City series. I adored reading Talia and Cato’s journey. After getting glimpses of them in Monstrous Lies I was looking forward to having their story. I love Katie’s writing, characters and world building and she definitely delivered again with this book.

Katie really showed a different side to the monsters through Cato’s tribe and I enjoyed the different dynamics between the 2 tribes, Nightfangs and Acumens. Talia and Cato’s love of science and gaining knowledge helped them bond and Talia’s growth and strength through the book was amazing to witness. Cato is a beautiful character that I never would get tired of.

I absolutely loved the twists at the end of the book and I am excited to see what happens with Talia and Cato. I’m so invested in this series and I can’t wait to be introduced more to the Darklings and Samuel in the next instalment. I feel like his story is going to be epic.

Have you ever read a book and thought the characters fit so perfectly together? Well, that’s exactly how I feel about Cato and Talia. They’re so much alike and I truly believe they were made for one another. The little glimpse of both characters in book 1 had me ready for book 2 and now I can’t get enough.

Talia is a strong, hardworking, and down-to-earth character. She feels so deeply and she wears those feelings proudly. I’ve been shouting this woman along throughout the whole story. I immediately felt and hurt right along with her at the awful things that happened to the monsters and even her. She is truly one beautiful woman.

You already know I love Cato. I love that he is so sweet and so down to earth. Which is exactly why I said they were meant to be together. Cato has lost a lot just like all the monsters and you immediately want justice and want nothing but the best for him.

By the end of the story, I was just more and more invested in Talia and Cato. I’m not ready to give them up. BUT I am so ready for the last book!! I highly recommend reading both Monstrous Lies and Monstrous Truths.

This book is Talia & Cato’s story, which definitely didn’t disappoint. I honestly didn’t think I would like Talia when first reading about her in Monstrous Lies but this book opened my eyes & my heart for her. I hate what happened to her parents, literally my jaw dropped when I found out what happened. But it did make me happy to see he work her ass off. Cato was a favorite of mine & to finally hear his story makes it even better. You do need to read the first book in the series before this one… my reason is it truly opened my eyes to be able to compare the lifestyles of Talia & Aria because it was totally different for both over that wall. This whole mating ceremony & “celebration” has got to be the most erotic scene I have read, talk about hot & steamy!!! I wasn’t expecting the outcome that Talia found, but I knew something was up when the blood was changing. I cannot wait for the final book in the series, I was literally jumping out of my seat when Talia told Cato her announcement!! I want my own monster now!

Podium audio through Audible. narrators: Tor Thom and Kasi Holloway.
This is the second book on K.A Knights forgotten city trilogy. I highly recommend you to read/listen to the first book before this one to understand the story fully.
This centers around Cato and Talia as the MMC and FMC. I freaking adore Talia and her inner dialogue and thoughts. she is hilarious! The book doesn't really start where the first book finished, it starts a while before and from Talia's POV of the major events in the first book. I loved this installment in this story and how we get another POV of everything that transpired in the first book. I enjoyed Cato and Talia's romance and how it was slowly building and the end? whoah!
Talia and Cato get their HEA but it is not without struggles and miscommunication and a few spicy 🔥 moments... yes. the spice is on point 🥵
No I am diving right next into the next and last book, 'cause cliffhanger? absolutely. so I need to dive right into the next book to find out what happens next!

I loved this book so much! It really helped put more of the story together from Monstrous Lies and helped me see more of the bigger picture.

Aria and Akuji will always be my favourite couple in this series but it was nice to see Cato and Talia's relationship develop and see what happened to her while everything was going on with Aria. The one thing I did question was Cato's....prowess...in bed. He fully admitted that he'd never done anything but he was a complete sex god, so that threw me off a bit. Otherwise, I enjoyed their relationship, though I didn't feel the same spark like I did with Aria and Akuji.

I'm really excited to see what happens next! I'm guessing that it's the journalist and Samael and, with all the hints we got in this book, I'm extremely interested in his backstory and seeing what's underneath is scarred, bitter exterior. I'm totally not ready for this series to end, but I can't wait to see it!

The nerdy scientist and her monster

I'm so happy we got Tally and Cato's story! They're different from Aria and Akuji, who are warriors. These two are the brains of the crew. Don't misunderstand, Cato is still a monster and everything that comes with that. For Talia the monsters were a harder sell since she came from the other side, the rich side but she's A good person who doesn't turn a blind eye when she learns the truth. All in all I loved the romance story between these two.

I became addicted to reading about life at the Forgotten City first with Monstrous Lies and now with Monstrous Truths, and I am not a paranormal romance fan per se. Both tribes I have read about stole my heart and I swooned hard learning how they care about their mates against all odds. Cato’s devotion to Talia was as heart-stopping as Akuji’s love for Aria, and the plot surrounding the dystopian world they live in while standing against the evil scientists is getting more complicated and much more riveting each book. I am giddy with excitement with the prospect of learning about the Darklings and especially meeting with the seemingly feral Samael is giving me goosebumps.

This the 2nd book in the series and this time we follow Taila and Cato's story. We are taken back to the very start but this time we see it from their POVs and wow, I don’t think I’ve seen a couple so made for each other like these two. I love seeing how much Taila has grown and developed since the first book and she has become one of my favourite characters. This book has a bit of everything, from steamy scenes, a few twists (that shocked even me) and wanting to give them a hug. Some of my questions got answered and I’ve added a few more to my list. This is a fantastic book that just draws you in from the beginning until the end. I can’t wait for Samael’s book.

I was given an ARC copy of this book to provide an honest review and...I loved it!
They say its a standalone and you don't need to necessarily read book 1 before this book but I have to disagree. You get so much more from the story having read them in order. The tale in this sequel happens exactly the same time as the events in the first book but with two different characters. I loved reading the romance between the two characters and the expansion to this world. I can't wait for the closing book in the series!

Just WOW!! This series has so many twists!! Just bombshells! And I'm so invested in getting to the bottom of the mystery. In Monstrous Lies, we meet Talia and Cato, but in Monstrous Truths we get their story. And I loved them!! Talia is so smart and has such a good heart. I loved seeing her development, toughening up and coming out of her shell. She finally finds her strength and it was beautiful! As for Cato, yup, I think I found my new book boyfriend! He's strong, devoted, smart and so supportive! I just loved them so much!

So come on who would not enjoy a story of a monster and his scientist. It was just as fun as you would imagine.

So book one was really good, but I honestly feel like book two kinda surpassed that. Tally and Cato are a power duo. I just enjoyed how monstrous he was. Really starting to get into this I believe. I need more monster books now. All thinks to Cato.

Tally is a good person and I think equals out Cato. I think a perfect match.

I am just amazed at how descriptive this world is. I could not put my kindle down. I am so needing book three as soon as I can.

If you have not read this series yet, please do. I promise you will not be sorry.

This is definitely becoming one of my favorite series this year! I can’t wait for the final installment to this series! No one pulls me in faster than Knight, I swear sometimes I struggle to find my next book, and 9/10 times I do, I go back to a Knight book, she’s just that good! Side note…it seems with this series the bonus scenes are everything!!! They seriously are the icing on the cake.

Even though you go over a lot from book 1 again I enjoyed their side of it.

Pity the inconsistencies that were in book 1 weren't fixed. And I'm surprised at how many errors slip through the editor/s and Beta readers.

Still cute.

Ive been excited for this one!!!

Monstrous Truths is book #2 in the Forgotten City series. Each book can be read as a standalone.

I love Talia and Catos story!

If you read Monstrous Lies, you know who Talia is and if you haven't read it yet, you really should! The things that happen in this book take place at the same time as book 1, we are just seeing it from different POVs.

Talia and Cato are 🔥 🔥 🔥 together!!! Plus, your emotions will be all over the place. These 2 are all about science and me being a science nerd, i loved it!

And that ending!! Ahhh!!! I love it so much! I love this world and i can't wait for the next book ❤

The 2nd installment of the Forgotten City series brings us Talia and Catos story. I definitely enjoyed getting the story from their perspective. Their chemistry was very sweet and docile compared to Akuji and Aria.

There were some spots I found myself skimming but only because we obviously already knew what happened. I did like the plot twists and some of the extra details we didn't get in the first one. That really kept me interested.

I'm looking forward to the next book in the series!

I loved being able to see this series from Talia’s perspective from the beginning. How her life started on the other side of wall and the thought process of her new developing life inside the wall with the monsters. The first books message still rings true here in this book that human kind can be more monster than anyone else. Cato learns that yes there are humans that mean his people harm there are some that wont to and will do all that they can to help. We also learn a lot of shocking things in this book about the monsters and the experiments that were done. Can’t wait to see what the third book talks about. My guess is it will focus on the reporter

ARC REVIEW

I enjoyed this second book more than I did the first one! I related a bit more to the characters, I felt there was more depth to Talia and Cato. It was also nice to read what happened to Talia while Aria was with Akuji (book 1), but that also meant reading the same events a second time, just from a different perspective! The concept of the story is very interesting and different which is the main reason why I enjoyed this book! I will definitely read book 3!

Brilliant read. loving this series.
This is Talias story. Talia has a chance to prove herself, to help those in need. She is determined to ensure the safety of her people. But she is thrust into a world she never expected and the monsters are not who she thought she was. More love and understanding is what she finds on the other side of the wall. and she is more determined than ever to help those who need it most.
brilliant read.

I absolutely love the dystopian world, this author has created. This second book in the series is just as phenomenal as the first.

I was so excited to hear Cato and Talia were getting their own story, and I was intrigued to see the timeline from Monstrous Lies through Cato and Talia’s eyes.

Talia and Cato are perfect together. They’re intelligent and willing to do whatever it takes to get the answers they seek. Besides, how can you not fall for a scary hunk of monster who turns to mush for his woman—forked tongues are a definite plus 🥵.

I love the world building. The way the author depicts humans and monsters. Who are the real villains in this world? I can’t wait for more from the Forgotten City and where the author takes us next.
