A young Pyromancer teams up with five sexy soldiers in this action-packed Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance.
Alyssa’s Quintelaide is getting another chance to test the Tinker superweapon.
And this time it’s against a real Silithik hive.
Desperate to avoid the Archon’s demands—and his inevitable wrath at Alyssa for not sharing her new runetracing ability—Field Marshall Tyronix sends the Ninety-First on a dangerous mission: traveling behind enemy lines to the Daggerscar Canyon, where they must destroy a hive dedicated to producing the Silithik wasps which have been plaguing the western front for the entire war.
It's a mission that will bring Alyssa and Harry, the Quint's Ranger, closer together--something he is now eager to do after seeing his three Quintmates have their way with the beautiful Pyromancer. There's not much chance for romance while stalking through Silithik-occupied territory, but soon Alyssa is fantasizing about joining the handsome Ranger's bedroll at night...
Can Alyssa and her Quintmates complete the mission and escape the canyon alive? And even if they do, will it be enough to convince the Archon of their loyalty?
RANGER'S RISK is the fourth book in the Paranormal Reverse Harem Romance series, Pyromancer’s Path. It features exciting sword-and-bow action, a unique magic system, and all the slow-burn romance you’d come to expect from a Reverse Harem. HEA guaranteed!

The author continues to thrill me with this exciting series! I love that we get more chemistry, action and back story details to keep me hooked and looking for more! The Quint is now working together again and the dire situation at the front is very apparent. What a cliffy ;) I cannot wait for the next book to come out!
DNF. I tried. I really wanted to like the series but as I already struggled the last book, I now give up. The lack of emotional connection whenever the FMC adds another male to her bed just doesn't sit well with me. Yes it was predictable that she add another male each book, even which one. But the connection feels forced and replaced something she had we the others.

2 stars as of May 2025 on first reading. Only redeeming factor of this book is the ending. Now for the rant...
I'm an archer and this book annoyed me to no end mutliple times with how it describes it for a variety of reasons that I need to get off my chest: 1) Shooting arrows into a tree is a good way to permanently lose and/or damage them. 2) You should never be putting strain on your elbow unless you are doing something wrong. It is the back muscles doing the work. 3) If you hit the arm guard you've messed up the shot as it means the bowstring has slapped your arm/elbow. This is due to not rotating your elbow correctly on the arm that is holding the bow. 4) NEVER dry fire an arrow (let go of the bowstring while drawn without an arrow) as you risk breaking the limbs from the vibration rebound. 5) Holding an arrow as described actually makes it harder to draw while causing a loss of power and thus distance. 6) There is no way you can take a standard recurve bow and shoot it from horseback or something flying due to the length of the limbs. There is a reason there are bows specifically for that. 7) You would never get a beginner archer the same poundage bow as a professional as they would not be able to draw it and would likely hurt themselves doing so.
I could go on, but the one thing I can say is at least the author did not have them string a bow while in a tree like another book I know of...
Warning, I'm a huge re-reader of books thus my feelings on them can change over time. Any future re-read opinions will be captured below.
Deze recensie is in het Engels omdat ik het boek las in het Engels:
The story goes further in this new book. Maybe you could read it as a stand alone book, but you would miss out a lot of the clues coming from the other books.
This book has as main characters of course Alyssa, but next to her Harry the ranger of her Quintelaide. He is wounded at the beginning of the story and in sleep to recover from it. Alyssa stays a lot by his side.
They get a new dangerous mission to go on. A mission which is against the plans of the archeon, who wants them to come back to the capital, because he wants to learn Alyssa her secret.
The mission brings them far away and in a lot of danger, because they need to bring down a whole hive of wasps this time. Along the way Harry and Alyssa grow closer and closer together. Of course she also isn't forgetting about her other quint mates.
After the mission they are brought back to the capital. What happened next I can't tell you, because that would give a way to many spoilers. But it does mean I can't wait to read the next book in this series, because I want to know what is going to happen next.
Pyromancer Alyssa has a terrible burden to carry, she’s the only one who knows the new Rune Pausing ability. It’s the high fantasy version of “weapons of mass destruction”. She’s also sworn an oath vowing not teach it to anyone else. That together with the knowledge of the Gryphon nobility’s sickening gambling habits, both Alyssa and Maze are keeping the secrets from their quintmates for now.
Alyssa still can’t cast any runes but she’s been fighting through the pain and sickness to keep trying. They’re headed to a small island offshore to test the new portable device.
Unsurprisingly things don’t unfold as planned, from then onwards it’s nonstop action. Against the enemy and in the bedroom. The book ends with some mind blowing information for the quintelade.
I’ve read all four of the books in the series so far, more or less back to back. It’s not difficult to see where the plot is headed but I’m not about to drop hints. Now I’m off to read book 5.
Wow! What a fantastic book. Them more the story progresses, the more secrets are disclosed about the evil plans of the Archon. Once again we are drawn to the movements of the Hundred and Thirty-Third Quintelaide, Alyssa and her fellow dragons Harry, Jax, Arthur, Maze and Ryon are heading north to destroy another hive and the Queen producing the wasps there under the orders of Field Marshal Tyronix. The Archon wanted them to return to the capital city to be punish for disobeying his orders, but he wanted to learn how to do the delayed casting so he could proclaim war on all those who were not loyal to him. When Harry’s life is threatened, he is assassinated and now the Quint is running for their lives while being drawn to the north by some kind of power. I want the next book now, I don’t know if I can wait until it comes out next.

Keeping secrets has made some question the loyalty of our heroine and her team. Will this latest mission give them a chance to prove themselves or will it be their final outing?
This is book four of the series. The story does okay as a standalone, but you will find it more enjoyable if read in order.
This is a fantasy reverse harem romance story. The story is well written and easy to read, with well developed characters that each make a unique contribution to the story. This series is a bit of a departure from the previous books I have read by this author due to the fantasy setting. But the story still provides action, romance and steam, so all is good. The story was fun to read and very enjoyable. I look forward to seeing what comes next.
Highly recommended.

"Ranger's Risk" is the fourth book in the "Pyromaner's Path" series, and starts a little slower compared to the previous books. The action slows down a little, to gradually build up again throughout this book. Because of that, it took me a little longer to get swept up into the story again, but once the story grabbed me, it was just as great as the first three books.
In this book, the focus lies on Harry and Alyssa, but it also starts to feel more like a true harem (including the much loved group scenes). For some reason, I had a harder time connection to Harry, so I was happy to see them building a real group this time and experience things with all the men.
I'm really enjoying this rappidly releasing series, and I'm looking forward to the final book next month!
The overarching theme stays: there are a lot of factual mistakes, either from lack of research or fact checking.
Ship biscuits are NOT cooked on board. They are brought dried and then eats as they are. Butter cannot be transported on a ship without a fridge. And no ship I ever heard of had a kitchen on deck instead of the galley. Let alone one with boiling oil?! What the heck.
Others here have pointed out the multiple issues with bows in the book. Overall it seems like lazy factchecking or missing research.
All of the encounters besides Jax seem weird because they happen right after trauma. I would love to see a bit more relationship development, but there is too little time for that between all the plot 😂
"Ranger's Risk" is the fourth book in the "Pyromancer's Path" and with each book we see the Quints RH romance develop. Nobody writes a reverse harem story like Cassie Cole. The evolution of the Quints romantic relationship takes nothing away from the amazing story of the Ninety First Dragons and the Silithik war. There is a lot of action in this book and the more things are revealed, the more questions there are. It is another well written story with action, drama, and twists that I did not see coming. I am anxiously awaiting to see our Shadow drop his guard and fully let our Pyromancer in.

Although fantasy is not my usual reading material, I am definitely hooked on this series. The writing and story line is incredible. The characters continue to grow and evolve, but none more than Alyssa. She now has the secret “delayed” rune messaging. Will it work again when they are trying to eliminate the Silithik hive and Queen when the use the Tinker’s super weapon. Harry, the Ranger archer is featured in this book. The Shadow still remains aloof. The characters and world building are extremely well developed. Good read!.

Alyssa and her Quintelaide complete the mission they were given but just before they would have been killed, they were rescued. However, the rescue was only to deliver them to the Archon who is power mad. They learn more of the Archon's treachery before they end him to save themselves. Knowing what awaits them if they are caught, they leave and make plans to end the war themselves. It is a page turner with lots of action and romance between the Quintelaide.
I've really enjoyed the structure of this series. I like that each book has focused on an individual member of the Quintelaide. Not only has it given them some time and space to develop each relationship with Alyssa but it also gives room for them to feel like a unique member. The males have actual characteristics and personalities outside of being part of the group. And there is still plenty of room for movement in the overall story.

This is the fourth book in the series and it doesn’t disappoint. Harry grows closer to Alyssa in this part of the story. They get to know each other better in more ways than one. There is a lot of HEAT between them. Alyssa and her guys all grow closer as they get to know each other better. They face lots of danger on their mission but it increases when they return to the capital. Can’t wait for the next part of the story.

Alyssa and her Quintelaide have another chance to test out their new weapon, but this time it will be against a real Silithik hive.
This mission brings Alyssa and the Ranger, Harry, closer together. But will there be time for romance between them and will they all be able to escape the mission alive.
I enjoyed reading this book and am looking forward to the next book.

Alyssa and her Quint are on a new secret mission to plant a bomb in a hive along the northern front. As they travel, she grows closer to the Ranger on her team (Harry). But war is messy, brutal and unpredictable - will they make it out alive? And if they do survive, what will they face next? This series is absolutely wild, with incredible writing and captivating characters. I am wildly in love with this crew, and I can’t wait to see what happens in the conclusion of this series!
Book 4 gives us Harry and Alyssa's story. On a secret mission to drive the monstrous Silithik army back of the front line by using the bomb created by the Tinkers in book 3. The hundred and thirty third Quintelade is still on the Archon's 'to destroy' list. Lies and secrets are revealed after being taken by Gryphon's in an unwinnable battle. As big as the revelations are at the ending, they were not a cliffhanger but a continuation. Fantastic series filled with action, betrayal, suspense, and love.
We are starting to learn more about the war. The reasons for the war. I enjoyed reading about Alyssa and her ranger. I’m just glad that they were all together during this. I hope Tyrion makes it out alive and well. I liked his gruff personality. It does feel weird that the people that have saved them that died for them, haven’t really been felt about or talked about much. I know they say not to feel guilty but with how natural flowing the rest of the book is, it just feels a bit off to me. Off to read the last!
This is the shortest book of the series, but I honestly think this one is the best. The tension is build up really nicely, and it actually came to a point where I had to keep reminding myself that there's another book, so I wouldn't have to worry about every main character just dying in this one. This being Harry's book, I would have expected a lot more out of his character, but it was really surface level in my opinion. It's really disappointing, since the opening scene from him set the bar quite high.
This book in the series has a lot more emotions involved, from all the Quint mates, than previous books. The storyline is basically for Harry, the Quint's Ranger, and Alyssa, but the drama and romance entwines the whole team of Dragons. There are a lot of questions answered, but more drama unleashed. I think the last book should be spectacular and I'm looking forward to it!.

Ranger’s Risk us the 4th book in the Pyromancer’s Path series and is about Harry and Alyssa. I love that Cassie’s books in this series focuses on one love interest through this series. However all of her men are shown through the book. Bring on a sexy harem of gifted men. More drama and adventures are present on this book and shows Alyssa forming deeper connections. Can’t wait for the next book.

I always look forward to a new book by Cassie Cole, the Pyromancer's Path has been wonderfully done. This was such a strong entry in the novel, it had a great plot going on and I was hooked in this universe. The characters were interesting and worked with previous characters. I can't wait to read more from this series.

Having enjoyed the earlier books in this series I was eager to read this fourth book, it did not disappoint. The action in this book starts a little slower but then gradually builds up the deeper we get into the story. That said the story had no difficulty grabbing my attention and holding it to the end.
In this book, the connection between all of them builds and you see them becoming a true group. I'm really enjoying this series, and am looking forward to the next and final book!
I loved Harry’s point of view!!! I loved getting to know him, and love his vulnerability and soft side for Alyssa. I love this entire quint and I can’t wait to read Ryon’s part. I loved that Harry didn’t hold back from his feelings towards Alyssa, accepted it, and embraced it. I love that all the guys love and accept her, support her, and share her. This is such a good series!!!
Cassie Cole's Ranger's Risk throws Alyssa and her Quint into their riskiest mission yet: taking down a deadly Silithik hive behind enemy lines.
With Harry, the smoldering Ranger, finally stepping up to pursue Alyssa, the tension is as thick as the danger lurking in Daggerscar Canyon. This mission is packed with heart-pounding action, forbidden chemistry, and just enough heat to keep you hooked.
Ranger's Risk delivers if you love your romance with a side of danger and plenty of sizzle!
Never, ever release a bowstring without the arrow... 🤦♀️🤦♀️😱 It's the first thing any archer learns, I've never touched a bow and I know it, basic common knowledge. It happened several times when Harry taught Alyssa how to shoot an arrow, whithout the arrow.
A detail, yes, but it kinda through the whole credibility of the story to the ground because it's so logical. 🥲 Hope the author won't repeat that mistake.
Alissa and her Quintalaide are back together - this should make their lives safer... but the powers that be have different ideas. Unique world and compelling story filled with live, adventure and danger. Brilliant storytelling.

Alyssa is settling in to her Quint and celebrating the most recent win with the rune pausing bomb. She starts to fall for Harry while he's recovering. This book was a slow build towards her and her Rangers connection filled with more emotional scenes than action adventure like the last. The truth comes out when they are pushed to the limit and its the first true connection among them all.
This is the fourth installment of this series. Like the first three it is well written and thought out. There is a lot of drama and danger for the Quintelaide. I can't wait to see how they might end the war and how their relationship will evolve.

Alyssa is finally reunited with the rest of her quintelaide for another daring mission. She has the opportunity to spend time with Harry and forms a more intimate bond with him. Their mission has surprising consequences and the ending was a definite kick in the gut.
