When Rowena Buchan heals a man from what others perceived as a demonic possession, she becomes the witch that needs to be burned. So, she flees until she runs into the Beast of McIntosh, who saves her life.
Laird Evan McIntosh wears a mask, for his scarred face terrifies the people. Isolated from everyone, his only companions are his dogs. Until the most beautiful woman faints in his arms, and he vows to protect her.
What many think of as a deformity, Rowena perceives it as bravery. And when their attraction becomes unbearable, she gives her heart to Evan. But witches and beasts are considered the worst sinners…
Will Evan manage to protect them from being burned?
*A Healer for the Highland Beast is a steamy Medieval Historical romance novel of 80,000 words (around 400 pages) written by Maddie MacKenna and published by Cobalt Fairy.
No cheating, no cliffhangers, lots of steam and a happy ending.
Ooof. I don’t usually rate books less than three stars but I’m torn between one and two stars for this. The idea could have been great but the execution was just really bad. Aside from the fact that it felt like a lot of really cliche scenes at times, the dialogue was also really cringey. If you’ve ever heard the advice show don’t tell, I feel like the first half of the book was just the characters telling us how noble they are with very little action to actually back those claims up. There were also just inconsistencies in the story that made me think this could be improved a lot had there been a good beta reader. I won’t completely write off the author based on this first read, because maybe it’s one of their first books? But it’ll definitely be a while before I give another one a shot.
I actually considered DNF’ing this… the writing was weird and not just because of the attempt at writing in the Scottish accent, but it’s just not great… there isn’t anything to make me actively dislike it, but I’m glad it done and I don’t have to think about it ever again…
As I kept reading, the story never really kept my interest. It just wasn't exciting or romantic or anything really. Hard to explain. I skipped quite a bit to see if the HEA was worth my time. Didnt happen. So I won't be reading anymore from this author.
The plot was good and I loved the characters, but parts of the story were somewhat unorganized and did not mesh. The previous one of her books was better.
This is a well written book with strong characters in Rowena and Evan. The author does a great job developing the story and pulling you in. I was glued to the pages right to the end reading their story. She takes you back to the day with her perfectly painted scenes and delivers a fantastic story.
I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book. All opinions in this review are my own and freely given.
Highlander romance is my favorite, but this one was a little too sweet even for me. Plus it seriously needs an editor to fix the spelling mistakes throughout the book.
Rowena Buchan is called a witch as she had healing powers. She was able to heal a man they had accused of witchcraft and thereby puts herself in danger. She flees and runs into the Laird Evan McIntosh who saves her He is hiding his face as it is scarred He lives with his dogs and keeps to himself. It is a beautiful story showing how Rowena sees the good in him without judging him on his appearance. I am on the ARC team and I leave a honest review. I recommend this book to other readers.
Evan was known as the beast. He became Laird at a young age when his father was killed and he was slashed across the face. From then on he wore a mask to cover his scar. He was the Beast , after all. In the woods one day he heard a scream and ran into a woman. She passed out. Men were chasing her with pitch forks and screaming that she was a witch. He fought and killed the men and brought Rowena back to his castle to recover. He thought her to be the most beautiful woman he ever saw. He said he’d protect her and he did. He fell for her from first sight. She made him feel loved and needed. The father of the village wanted her so bad that he called her a witch to get her back for refusing him. So much perused that you have to read this story for yourself.
She Gave Him His Confidence and He Was Her Hero Together There Love Was Everlasting
She wasn’t a Witch and He wasn’t a Beast. Mistaken identity ? Or the Ravings of a Madman ? It didn’t matter though. Love, kindness, compassion was all it took to wipe out the evil. A Beautiful Tale of the power of love healing your soul and your heart for a new future. Rowena Bochan and Evan Laird McIntosh meet when she was on the run being Hunter for being a witch. There was something from the beginning that connected there hearts. She was a gifted Heater and was a great Warrior. Maddie Mackenna got the Perfect Match with this couple. They were mesmerizing and captivated your heart.
This is the only thing I've read by Maddie McKenna and I may be wrong, but I think she must be a new author. I did read the entire book though it seemed to ramble at times. The storyline itself has potential, and I think the author worked hard to keep it moving. Just my opinion however, I feel like the dialogue jumped from current phrases to attempted historically accurate speech. As I said, I feel the author will improve with experience and help from her fellow authors. I gave it 3 stars since I felt that a lot of work had gone into it, but it still needs work in my opinion, which is only my opinion.
This book was awful! So much broken continuity, for example they did 'the deed' earlier in the book, made a point to say the whole castle heard them, then acted like they had never done it and she was a virgin at the end. 😑 Just do yourself a favor and don't read this one, it was so slow so much 'filler' the book could have been written in less than half the length it is now and still been equally as awful but at least short. If 'Passionate forehead kisses' and being able to toss your bosom to the side sounds like a good time to you then go for it!
I like this book a lot. Right of the bat I was drawn in to it because it started off very suspenseful and I was immediately drawn in to read the entire story. I always wondered how any one man could gain so much power over and have others to follow even when the they know he’s wrong. Good people follow bad people and disregard every thing that they know is good. Always looking for the easy way out. What can you say?
He rescued her more than once they called her A witch but she is a healer and because of his scars he was called a beast and the enemy called himself a man of God The characters are strong and courageous A wonderful plot and well written story that I enjoyed
Toward the end I almost gave up on because it was just dragging on. I am glad I finished the book. I absolutely loved most of the characters and most of the storyline. Rowena and Evan both were strong characters. Maybe the next book will be Marie and Bingwen 🤷🏻♀️🤷🏻♀️. Back to my Leila Borderlands Ladies story by Madeline Martin. 🥰🥰🥰🥰🥰💜💜💜💜💜 Sucks to not read an extended epilogue!
I absolutely loved this story! They called her a with and him a beast because of his scars. He saved her but the enemy was a surprise because he is a man of God! This story kept me glued to the pages and cheering for Laird Evan McIntosh and Rowena! I am volunteering to leave a review for an ARC of this book.
That said, there were a few unanswered questions (1 being was the highly skilled archer sent by Raphael?) and the extended epilogue was odd (the first part seemed like a chapter removed just before the ending of the book as it took place before the wedding). There was the occasional grammatical, wrong word usage.
I have enjoyed this book. It has taken me a couple days to read it. I am watching Queen Elizabeth’s funeral today and watched the Scottish bagpipe troops. My ancestors came from all over Great Britain. I didn’t know this when I watched tv in early years. Evan and Rowena had a struggle but became a happy family full of love in the end.
I loved this story! It was full of love and excitement. I could hardly put it down until I was finished. Raphael was a heartless person and lied about everything! He deserved what he got in the end!
Not dreadful hence 3*, just not worth carrying on . Sorry, 20% of the book and nothing really happened. Lame dialogs, uninteresting. Very long descriptions of surroundings just had to skip ect ect
Maddie MacKenna has written an entertaining story about a young laird that was injured in a fight to save his family. The characters were intriguing and strong. Rowena was a healer, but accused of being a witch. Laird Evan had rescued her when she was running from her accusers.
This was a very interesting story! I love how they fell in love. I loved how Rowena showed and taught Evan to be the man he truely was inside and behind his mask. It was hard to put down. I highly recommend this book!
4.25⭐️ I loved Evan’s character so much. He was really sweet and I loved how he interacted with Rowena. This book took some time to grow on me. It wasn’t quite what I expected, but definitely turned out to be great.
Great story line and well developed by this author. First time with this author. Easy to read a well done romance. I love a good story with a little intrigue and a happy ending.
At first, I thought this would just be the two, with family. Then he came in, and things got more interesting. A good finish to this tale ... and a beginning for another?
