Two amateur psychics. A reckless ghost hunter. Caine House has awakened, ready or not.
Emmie thinks the worst is over. Sarah hopes Emmie is right. But the apparitions of Hanging House haven’t deterred Finn from intensifying his hunt. He knows they’re real. And he wants more.
When a famous haunted house in a nearby town is put up for rent, Finn doesn't hesitate to move in. How can he resist? It’s a ghost hunter’s paradise. With an arsenal of equipment, a healthy dose of skepticism, the bravado of knowing he’s “been through this before”, and a secret wound of his own, he’s ready to face the unseen head-on. What could go wrong?
But Caine House has its own agenda, and as Finn gets ensnared by its clever apparitions and violent mysteries, he realizes too late that he’s bitten off more than he can chew. And now only two people can help him.
Emmie and Sarah rush to the rescue, but soon face a nightmare of their own. Caine House is somehow connected to the death of Emmie’s parents, and Sarah needs to come to terms with her gift of empathy before it destroys her.
The three friends gather their courage and skills to confront the insidious phantom, but their foe is hellbent on maximum mayhem.
Caine House is the second novel in a new Paranormal Mystery series that delivers an unsolved murder, ghostly mysteries, and a twist of horror.
Fans of Wendy Wang, Darcy Coates, Abe Moss, Cheryl Bradshaw, or Heather Graham will love this exciting new supernatural suspense book.
Dean Rasmussen grew up in a small Minnesota town and began writing stories at the age of ten, driven by his fascination with the Star Wars hero's journey. He continued writing short stories and attempted a few novels through his early twenties until he stopped to focus on his computer animation ambitions. He studied English at a Minnesota college during that time.
He learned the art of computer animation and went on to work on twenty feature films, a television show, and a AAA video game as a visual effects artist over thirteen years. He currently teaches animation for visual effects in Orlando, Florida.
Inspired by his favorite authors, Stephen King, Ray Bradbury, Richard Matheson, and H.P. Lovecraft, Dean began writing novels and short stories again in 2018 to thrill and delight a new generation of horror fans.
The writing is still slightly off, but I'm getting weirdly invested in these characters.
It's a nice paranormal mystery. I'm still puzzled by the (lack of) emotions in this. You can't just write that someone is crying, you need to make me feel it...
Still, it's entertaining enough that I will keep reading.
I enjoyed this paranormal thriller. Emmie Rose called in to help her friend, Finn when he rents a haunted house. He stirs up more trouble than he bargained for. This story is well written with strong characters who aren't afraid to stand up for their friends. This fast paced story is highly recommended for lovers of the paranormal. I received an advance copy of this book and this is my honest review.
Josephine is set on avenging her death and getting back at Victor for revenge of his deceit. Finn rents the Caine House for six months to investigate the rumors of hauntings going on. Emmie and Sarah are his friends that are blessed with psychic abilities. Finn foolishly removes an artifact from a crypt with out considering his actions first. He accidentally releases Josephine which begins a huge supernatural and paranormal saga of revenge. This is a scary fast paced action packed suspenseful phenomenal paranormal read. Goose bumps and chills while reading should be expected.
Finn rents a haunted house to investigate. He calls Emmie and Sarah for help after an incident in the shed. They must try to find out what is behind the activity.
Dean Rasmussen is the new Stephen King! This story was cruel your toes scary and so engaging. You are reading and get completely lost in it because it is so good!
Oh my gosh, Caine House was even better than Hanging House. I was completely engrossed from page 1. If you like ghosts (good and bad) then this is the book for you. Strong characters and I love Emmie she is unbelievably strong and yet vunerable too. Well done Dean, can't wait to read Book 3.
This is a brilliant read. Wonderful well written plot and story line that had me engaged from the start. Love the well fleshed out characters and found them believable. Great suspense and action with wonderful world building. Can't wait to read what the author brings out next. Recommend reading.
I read a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest review.
Caine House was a solid 3.5 Star read for me but didn't quite hit the 4 star mark. I am enjoying the friendship between Emmie, Sarah and Fynn and how they work together. They've a natural, easy going friendship which I love and it feels comfortable too. I think my issue comes when I liken it to something of The Famous Five (Minus the ghosts etc I don't remember there being ghosts in those books) where it feels more child like at times. Yes there's the gruesome aspect (Especially in this case when some of the spirits are terribly disfigured from their deaths) but the decisions of the adults at times appeared more child like, less thought out. I'm having issues describing what I mean so hope someone gets my point. When there is zero 'sexual' interaction and questionable actions, the adulthood side isn't there.
The story of Caine House though with Victor and the characters (Who I won't name as there was some nice twists in this one and I do not want to spoil it for anyone) is dark, but mysterious. I liked that we saw more history of Emmie's parents, found out more about Sarah's gifts and also why Fynn is driven the way he is towards the supernatural.
I read Caine House in one sitting and already have Hyde House (Book 3) ready to go. If you like a supernatural mystery with good characters and no 'drama' so to speak, then definitely give the Emmie Rose series a look. And I feel bad if I don't mention Alice who I really hope we get to hear her story one day. 3.5 stars.
This time we follow Emmie to a new location and even further back in her history. Finn has rented Caine House to further his ghost-hunting hobby. In intricate ways, we learn how Caine House and Emmie are connected. Sarah and Emmie are living together in the Hanging House and their powers are growing and making both the young women and the spirits around the stronger. Although I had hoped for a romance between Sarah and Emmie in vain, I still got a romance, of sorts.
The narrator does a great job and once again I was emerged in the story. I had to listen to it throughout to the end in one sitting.
There is no doubt that Dean Rasmussen has done a great job writing this book. The research seems careful; the plot is filled with action and the characters come alive in the story. I know what Emmie, Sarah, and Finn would do. The prose could use a stronger editor - there are a lot of "cringes" and "grins" but that's small inconveniences.
Caine House, the second novel in the Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery books is a great paranormal thriller. Finn is determined to find ghosts in his recently rented haunted abode, Caine House. He really should have been careful what he wished for as he has awoken a vengeful spirit, one with an agenda that is very, very dangerous. Emmie and Sarah, great friends of Finn’s and amateur psychics, will need to come to his aid if he is to get out of this situation alive. Little does he realize that he will also endanger the people who try to help him. This fast-paced, action-packed paranormal gem, with wonderful characters and a great story line is a great addition to the series. I am looking forward to reading the next novel in this series. I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.
This was a great second edition to the Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery series. I really enjoyed having Emmie, Finn and Sarah all working together and becoming a more close knit group. The haunting in this one is pretty horrific and not everything or everyone gets a happy ever after, but I was glad Emmie got the closure she needed by the book's end. There are a lot of new, up and coming writers in the horror field and I'm glad to see the genre making a resurgence. This author is one that knows how to spin a good yarn and keep you turning the pages. I look forward to reading more of Emmie and her friends adventures.

Overall: 5 of 5 stars Performance: 5 of 5 stars Story: 5 of 5 stars Reviewed: 06-02-22
Emmie, Sarah, and Finn, are back with a ton of ghosts, scares, chills, mysteries and thrills in Caine House, book two in this fantastically written, beautifully narrated series! No spoilers, just know that this one is stuffed to the gills with well developed characters, both good and evil, and a plot that is divinely dark, and dare I say delightfully twisty! Dean Rasmussen got me in book one with plot twists and an ending that took me completely by surprise and now the score is Dean two, Gigi zero. Well played sir! Five Fabulous Stars!!!
Audiobook: I thought book 2 in the "An Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery" series was as entertaining as book one. Finn was a ghost hunter. When a known haunted residence was listed for rent, Finn had to take advantage of the opportunity to study the possibility of ghost activity by leasing the house. The story was creepy. There were some surprising twists. I became so absorbed in the tale that I had to look over my shoulder a few times to ensure that I was still alone in my own home. Kasi Hollowell's narration was intense and added to the story's entertainment. I was given a free copy of the audiobook, and I have voluntarily posted this review.
I loved this continuation with the characters from Hanging House. Emmie and her friend Sarah have gifts that allow them to see and sense spirits. In the previous book, Emmie came to terms with a spirit from her childhood house. They now co-exist in her home. The girls’ ghost hunter friend, Finn, has rented Caine House which is reportedly haunted. He sets up all his gear to find the ghosts. Things go terribly wrong and Emmie and Sarah come to help. I really enjoyed this second book.
I received a free copy in exchange for an honest review.
I absolutely loved this book, the characters development in this book was very sweet, the plot to this story was very interesting I liked getting to see more of everyone's perspectives, the way dean writes is very well done, the paranormal parts are very well described and detailed. the pacing of this story was perfect! I can't wait for the next book!
The only thing was that sometimes I feel when the characters are dealing with something emotionally, it isn't very well described, but other than that, this book is brilliant
WOW, what a read! The plot was intense, powerful and thrilling and held me captive all the way through! The characters fairly leaped off the page, and the tension was palpable. If you are looking for a haunting, twisted read that you just CAN’T put down, then this is DEFINITELY the book for you!
*I received a complimentary ARC of this book in order to read and provide a voluntary, unbiased and honest review, should I choose to do so.
Oh yessss this was a really enjoyable, great easy read.
This is the second book in this series and picked up where the first left off. It was another cracking story in the life of psychic Emmie Rose and her friends.
She discovers more about her deceased parents and further embraces her unwanted "gift".
Immediately drawn into the life of Eminem,Sarah, and Finn. Relatable characters just finding their footing in the world of haunting, and ghosts. Vivid images are apparent from page to page. Watching as an adventure and friendship form between these characters. Excited to see how these friends handle more ghosts in Mystery book 3.
This book is for those who enjoy a good ghost story that isn't too scary. Lots of ghosts. Lots of sub plots. Interesting characters. It starts a little slow. But hang in there. The narration was good. She could have made it sound a little bit scarier. I really like her male voices. 4 stars for her. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book from the author through Story Origin.
This second book in the Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery series is faster paced than the first. If you haven't read the first on the series do it before reading this one.
I loved the first and this book is even better. we have even more ghosts. Eminem, Sarah, and Finn are finding their footing in the world of haunting, and ghosts. This story involves a terrible spirit and the power to kill anyone that tries to stop them.
It may just be me but I found this book slow starting. I usually stop reading a slow starting book because I find that they are not all that great. However, I stuck with this one and it picked up it's pass. So I really enjoyed it.
Caine House is the second book in this series and just like the first one, it's a great mystery with classic haunting/horror story vibes! The story pulls you in on the first page and keeps you wanting more. Great audio narration. I really enjoyed it and hope to see more in this series!!
If you like a fast paced book then you’ll love this! Action straight from the first page and keeps you engaged the whole way through. I can’t wait to see where the three musketeers end up next
I’m enjoying this series so far. This book was full of ghostly mysteries that Emmie, Sarah and Finn trying to unravel. The book is pretty straightforward without extra fluff. I appreciate that! This one was hard to put down. Looking forward to the next one!
…and not in a good way! Nothing like killer ghosts with vengeance on their minds. I’m not going to give a synopsis of the story, but it does have some truly scary scenes.
I loved this book! I really enjoyed getting to know Finn and Sarah a little more this time around as well as starting to piece together some of Emmie’s past.
This was a real page turner (much like Hanging House) and I could not put it down.
Mixed feelings about this book, rounding up 3.5. I personally am not a fan of the character Sarah but she grew on me a little bit as I finished the book. I will be reading the next book in the series. I wish the books were a bit scarier but I still enjoyed it.
What can I say? I love a good paranormal book with ghosts in it. This was book 2 in a Emmie Rose Haunted Mystery Series, and it was very good. I also love Emmie, Rose and Finn. Can't wait for book 3.
