There are a few nice pieces in this book, but on the whole it leans heavily towards the industrial and horror/grotesque aspects of modern Gothic art, which is not to my taste (I'm more interested in the historical & romantic aspects of the genre, which don't get much coverage here).
This is an interesting book, and Jasmine does a fine job on the commentary, but most of the art depicted herein strikes me as ugly and/or disturbing, so I really don't feel compelled to keep this work in my collection. I will most likely be passing it on to someone with a better appreciation of this aesthetic.
Teoksiin uppoutui moniksi minuuteiksi.
It gets this Goth's silent seal of approvement. Only flaw it has is that it could have been thicker. It's also a shame that HR Giger who kinda is sort of gothic grandfather to iconic scifi horror gets presentation from sculptures alone. His creations inspire many and some of the artists who's art has been featured in the book definetelly have been inspired deeply by his art. He did more than sculptures. Surprisingly comic selection is missing things like iconic goth comics like Nemi or Emily of the Strange, Neil Gaiman's iconic goth comic Sandman...
Oh right... You'll see some stunning pieces of gothic art. It's not everything there is though but it's a nice scratch on the surface. This books requires more sequals. Overall very nice book.
I saw this book at the library and thought I would bring it home because I am STILL trying to read American Psycho and Prince Lestat and the Realms of Atlantis and needed something to take my mind off of both of them.
This really wasn't something to be read, it was more of just a book of various art by different artists that fell into the gothic category. I thought that some of them were kind of boring and predictably over-done but there were a few that caught my eye. I'm not going to put up any of the pictures or anything, but if you get the chance, I do recommend looking up some of these artists and taking a look at their work.

Those were the ones that stood out to me as being very unique and eye-catching in this particular book. I might go and look at some of their other things that were not featured because I really enjoyed their technique.
Imagery is so important to get imagination flowing. Looking through Gothic Art Now, I felt ideas almost rushing at me each time I turned a page.
Gothic Art Now is a perfect intro to different kinds of gothic art, from romantic to grotesque, oil to sculpture to digital, with little blurbs by each image just scratching the surface of the artists' thoughts and techniques. Individually, a reader can see which genre grabs them in particular. Collected, these pages represents a wide variety of styles, and thus ideas, enough to get anyone looking for inspiration as much as they can handle.
This is an interesting collection of primarily not well known artists, which included medium, digital, photographic and sculptural works. There is short paragraphs about the pieces, some talking about the artists, their motivations, and their relationship with the modern "gothic art" genre. It gives artists' websites as well, for further inquiry.
It's a good collection and a good representation of the genre. I don't know if I would purchase it, but certainly it was worth the time to review.
I do like this book and the visual side of it is quite enticing although I do think that most of the images in the Book focus more on the Grotesque side of Gothic art as opposed to the many artistic forms used in Gothic art now.
All together it was a sort of escape for me from words as I took to studying the different images and then briefly skimmed the information before reading the book in full.
