The old phrase "boys will be boys" didn’t work here. We were young and dumb and oblivious to the beings who shared the world with us. We should have been smarter, but we weren't. A prank gone wrong now has me and my twin living our life as one. Never to be human at the same time, our curse for our cruelty. The only person who knows what we are now is our younger brother. One person can break the curse. One who can love us despite our flaws. But it’s been years and she still hasn’t made her presence known. Our hope is fading, and we have resigned ourselves to living this way the rest of our lives. A chance encounter on a deserted road brings us our first glimpse of hope and a love we never expected. Will it be enough to lift the curse and return our lives to us? Will she want us when she finds out what we are? What we didn’t know was that she had her own flaw, her own story. Could we look past it and open our hearts to her?

The Charleston Curse by Bre Rose is a contemporary RH romance with a whisper of magic, inspired by The Frog Prince. It follows Landry and his twin brothers, Cayden and Jayden—two boys turned cursed men, each doomed to live half a day as a frog, never able to be human at the same time. The price of cruelty in their youth has bound them to this fragmented existence… until each of them finds a girl that begins to bring light into their otherwise gray world. But when they realize they’re all falling for the same girl—sweet, quirky Mia—their fragile hope begins to crack. Can love break a curse, or will secrets undo them before they get the chance?

♡ What I liked most: • The fairytale connection was surprisingly faithful, and I loved how the core message of redemption carried through 🐸 • The reference to Beauty So Golden (another book in the series) was such a cute little easter egg ✨ — I love when authors do that • I found it endearing how Mia met one of the MMCs in frog form — their interaction was actually adorable and really heartwarming • It was wholesome to see Mia fully embrace her differences by the end — I really loved the diversity the author included when creating the heroine • The interactions between the MMCs and Mia’s father were genuinely sweet and made me smile • The story wasn’t just a simple “kiss the frog, get the prince” — I appreciated that the characters had to earn their happy ending
✘ What didn’t work for me: • The book starts with an author’s note explaining the rounds of editing it went through… and then ends with a typo (“fill free to message me”). It felt unnecessary and unfortunately drew attention to the other typos sprinkled throughout • The plot was painfully linear: character intros → meeting → problem-solving. It lacked twists, turns, or emotional highs • The prologue had an odd tone — like a fairytale voice-over (“there once was a girl…”), but with modern tech references. The contrast felt jarring • The pacing was slow. It took 94 pages for the main characters to actually meet • The emotional range was limited (I counted about three emotions: sad 🥲, happy 🙂, horny🔥) • I was very uncomfortable with the dynamic between the MMCs (who are brothers) being overly casual about nudity… and not in front of the FMC, just on their own. It felt off • The worldbuilding was barely there — sprinkled in only a handful of places. I struggled to imagine the setting or immerse myself in it • Every female side character seemed to be throwing herself at the MMCs, which made the world feel a little flat and stereotypical • The romance moved way too fast. They barely met and within minutes were confessing feelings. The next day, one of the MMCs was ready to “go to the ends of the world for her.” Huh? • Everyone was getting startled by the most basic things — like alarms or strangers in public places. Mia went to a meadow specifically to find a frog, only to freak out and scramble away the moment she hears it? • The insta-lust was over the top. Mia constantly thought about how “hot” the guys were with no depth or meaningful build-up • The internal monologue was repetitive, often echoing the same thought line-for-line • And lastly… “juices” and “mushroom head” used in *that* way? I’m sorry, but I cringed a little
❀ Overall: I was genuinely intrigued by the premise of this book — a darker, more adult twist on the Frog Prince fairytale? Count me in. The idea felt fresh and promising, and I was excited to dive into a story with such whimsical inspiration. Sadly, while the concept held magic, the execution didn’t quite live up to its potential. This was a sweet and imaginative idea that could truly shine with some revision. The story is there, the heart is there, but the execution needs more finesse. I genuinely hope the author continues to grow, because I think there’s a beautiful emotional fairytale waiting beneath the surface — it just needs a little polish to sparkle.

*reverse harem *paranormal *multi-pov *fairytale retelling *curse twists *troubled pasts *established harem (3) *brothers (inc twins) *mid burn *standalone Something different! Well I wasn’t sure what to expect for a reverse harem Princess and the frog retelling…but I was pleasantly surprised! 😄 There’s plenty of twists regarding the curse, and it’s interesting how it all affects the brothers differently…even between the twins 🙈 We also have the mystery surrounding our FMC Mia - she certainly has some secrets! And despite all that she’s gone through she does still have a sweet side that these boys certainly appreciate 🥰 and when they finally all connect it does being the spice - although personally would like a couple more group scenes 🔥 It’s not as dark as some of the others on this world, but certainly brings the feels. It had a fulfilling end when things come to light and they give each other a chance 😃 A solid standalone!
A Princess and the frog retelling by Bre Rose turns this well known fairytale on it's head! In true Bre style, she embellishes, she twists and she manipulates this tale to the most magnificent of proportions, giving the reader a tale we are familiar with, a touch of sparkle! And a touch of mystery. And a touch (or more) of magic. And a whole lot of spice with the most likeable of characters.
In this retelling, there is not one frog Prince but two, twin brothers cursed for a very infantile prank years ago. And a brother who will go to any lengths to get the curse lifted, except that's a huge problem. None can find the witch who cursed them, none can find a cure. The way they are described is fantabulous! I felt unimagined sympathy for the boys, the cursed twins and the uncursed brother, who lives through every moment of their horrendous predicament. What an amazeballs brother Landry is! Cayden and Jayden have resigned themselves to a half life, the other half is, well, amphibious... not the best of situations!
And then a new girl comes to town, Mia, with all her secrets and insecurities. Did I love her! When she reveals what she had been hiding, you could have pushed me over with a touch, I was so astonished, I honestly didn't see it coming. Through all her hardships, Mia still remains spunky and sweet, where others might have collapsed under the burden. The same applies to the last few chapters as things unfold, which again speaks to the author's ability to captivate her audience in the most spectacular way!
I loved the element of magic, of witches, of second chances. I loved that I was kept guessing throughout and I can't express how good it felt when they all aired their secrets, I could almost see the relief on them all, the acceptance and the love. As to the love, Bre has a magic wand (I'm convinced!) that brings the spicy and steamy to a whole new dimension. It's always tender, always thoughtful, it's always compationate, always discerning, always yummy! A really beautiful story, with the most awesome of HEA!
I loved this retelling of the princess and the frog. With all the twists and magical turns that Bre loves to throw in on us, with some ah ha moments. I must say the twist of two frogs was perfect.
Jayden and Cayden are twins and their younger brother Laundry are our princess and Mya the princess. Our Princess has had a very tough past and is new in town. Jayden and Cayden have a past that is quite crazy. It started with a not so popular girl having a crush on the twins, that was made fun of for scars, in high school. She was also rumored to be a witch. After a bad decision to play a trick on the poor girl by the popular group, the twins decide her to join in to fit in with their classmates. The girl was so crushed that they all played this awful trick on her. So her sister casts a spell on anyone who hurt her. The popular children where turned into unlovable ugly animals and would stay that way for every year of pain they caused her sister. Then they would return to their human form and have on no memory of where they where for years. For the twins their punishment was worse because they hurt her sister so much more by deceiving her.. the spell she cast left them for 12 hours in the day as a frog. But never to be in human form together. Jayden would be human 12 hours during the day and frog at night. While his twin would be in frog form. Cayden would be a frog for 12 hours during the day and human for 12 hours at night. The spell would only be broken when they found someone to love them on all their flaws. So they took on Jayden's name for both twins, and Cayden was believed to be missing with the other high school students. Their brother Laundry helping them successfully live this lie and the only one to know the whole truth, while devoting so much time to find the witch or break the spell some way.
Mya was in a horrible accident where she survived and her mother did not. She has awful scars and permanent injuries and is basically a loner hiding her scars and injuries. She feels alone accept with her father and the animals at his clinic. Her father decides they need a fresh start so they move to a new town.
Each brother meets Mya at different times and falls for her and looks past her injures. While each brother knows that they have found a true interest in a girl none of them know it is one in the same girl. Once realized the 3 know that she is something special but can she see herself with 2 well 3 different men that are brothers? Will she be ok with them sharing her? Can they tell her their deep dark secret? Can she tell them her big secret? Will the curse ever be broken not only for the twins but for the other kids who where also cursed? Read this twisted retelling of the princess and the frogs, and enjoy all the twists and surprises that are thrown out there throughout the book. Just when you think you have it all figured out you don't....
Jayden and Cayden were cursed after they were part of a cruel prank on a young girl. Years of being separated as human and frog were causing the twins great heartache but their little brother Landry was trying to find a spell to set them free. This was a pretty good twist on the Princess and the frog.
Mia and her father had recently moved to Charleston. Mia was in a horrible accident that left many scars on her body and her heart. She had been hiding under layers of clothes and trying to live her life.
Each of the brothers meet her at different times and fall head over heels. She’s skittish and doesn’t think it’s possible for these breathtaking men to want her in that way.
The brothers had grown a lot since that fateful day and really saw her for her worth. Letting her into their lives meant divulging their secret. When she believes them and wants to be with them too they are more determined then ever to break the curse so they all can live happily ever after.
I enjoyed this reverse harem take on the Princess and the Frog fairytale. After a cruel, teenage prank, identical twins Jayden & Cayden are cursed to live their lives as a frog, with a twist. For 12 hours during the day Jayden is in human form and spends 12 hours at night as a frog. And so that they can never meet each as human again, Cayden is cursed to spend 12 hours during the day as a frog and 12 hours at night as human. Their younger brother Landry witnessed them being cursed, and since no one would believe what happened, they decide that since Jayden is human during the day, Cayden will spend his nights pretending to be his twin and as far as anyone else would know, Cayden would be presumed missing, possible dead. The 3 brothers spend the next 12 years trying to find a way to break the curse. This is when a new vet & his daughter Mia move to town. They all end up meeting Mia individually and all really like her. When they realize they all like the same person, they wonder if they can all date her. Fast forward in the book, and they get Mia to agree to date them at the same time, though she still thinks it's just Jayden and Landry. When they decide to share their secret with Mia, they find out she has her own secrets too. While I've gotten used to Bre's books being a little darker than this book and with cliffhangers you love to hate, this standalone was a quick and fun read. I liked seeing how the guys' relationship developed with Mia (I won't get specific, don't want to spoil anything!) And I loved seeing the close and loving relationship between the 3 brothers. I knew going into this that everyone had secrets, but I was pleasantly surprised by the twists that I didn't see coming. And even though I had a few times towards the end of the book where I was worried about what would happen to everyone, this does end up HEA.
Princess and the Frog meets a Beauty and the Beast reverse harem romance? This sounded right up my alley. I’ve been trying to dip my toes more into fantasy and in particular fantasy romance (which really hasn’t worked for me unfortunately) and thought that this was a good book to get immersed in.
While I would like to say I enjoyed this book - I didn’t. There was one major issue which was the writing. It was hard to enjoy a book that felt like I was reading an authors general plot line which added points of worldbuilding and topics or conversations that they wanted within certain chapters. That is how this entire book is. Was the plot interesting and good? Yes. Did it develop with the writing and story progression? No.
Another issue is the adolescent reasoning that all of these adults have with each other. The twins are telling their younger brother to forget about undoing the curse and to live his life yet are majorly upset if he isn’t there to comfort them when transformation time hits. These do not read well or even make sense. The FMC’s relationship with her father and how she talks in general is really young sounding. Like 13 year old sounding which is off-putting when she is supposed to be older than 18. I think this issue would have been resolved if the book hadn’t felt like it was a general plot line like I stated earlier.
I really wish that this had been done way differently. The plot and characters are interesting but when it doesn’t feel like you are reading a book and instead reading what an author is thinking of writing then it goes down the drain. I am giving this 2 stars because I think it would have been an amazing book if this wasn’t the major problem.
Three brothers, two identical twins, and the other a year younger; Jayden, Cayden and Landry. They all like the same girl in school but she was horribly bullied because of her scars. When the popular crowd asked them to be a part of them, they accepted. First, they had to do something…break the young girl’s heart! When her sister found out what they did, she cast a curse upon all of them. They all turned into beasts of some kind. For twelve years, the twins would take turns turning into a frog while the other stayed human for twelve hours. They could never find the family who moved away in the middle of the night. Their parents think Cayden disappeared along with the other children. When a new vet moves to town with his daughter, Mia, things will hopefully change. Mia is scarred from things that occurred in her teen years. She covers them up even in summer. She has a run in with the brothers all on separate occasions. They each have fallen for her without realizing it is the same woman until they see her at a party. Not above sharing, they are hoping she will not run off when they propose the idea to her. Mia is a special woman and hopes they will not run from her when she exposes her truth. When they seek out the one person they believe can help, it turns out to be a huge shock! Will the four find the cure? Will they be able to live a life together as they all want?
I love disney, and this book is a twist on the classic Princess and The Frog with more twists. It also has a slight play to me of Beauty and the Beast as well. I devoured this book in one go and wished for more when it was over. I also thought that I knew some of the twists and turns as they were coming, but in true Bre Rose fashion, she pulled the rug, and it was not as it was as it seemed. You have Cayden and Jayden twin brothers who, as teenagers and want nothing more than to be in the popular crowd, pull a prank on a classmate. There, the older sister curses them to a life of frogs but only one at a time. Until they can find someone to truly love them. With their younger brother, they spend the next 12 years trying to break the curse. When Mia moves to town and she meets them all individually and falls for them, they think they can break the spell. But when her past story is similar to that of the girl and the sister who cursed them its not all rainbows and sunshine. There are lots of twists and turns and lots of secrets revealed to get an HEA from this story.
The Charleston Curse is definitely the first fairytale retelling I’ve ever read of The Princess and The Frog and I loved it. Enough wonderful steam and spice to keep you drooling, enough action and suspense to keep you completely captivated, and amazing storytelling to make you wish the story would never end.
Mia is a young woman with social anxiety due to scarring on her body. Upon moving to a new town she runs into twins Jayden and Cayden and also Landry. The twins are cursed to be frogs for 12 hours per day. I loved that Landry refused to give up hope and was always there for the twins. I enjoyed the dynamics between all of the characters but I would have definitely loved a few more steamy scenes.
To me everything that Bre Rose has written so far, I have thoroughly enjoyed and this was no exception. This was a fun, darkish why choose spin on the Princess and the Frog. The story was a cute, loose retelling of the famous fairytale, complete with fun twists and some great laugh out loud moments! If you like fairytales or fairytale retellings or even just want a fun book to read, then give this one a try. You won't be disappointed!! Such a wonderful read!!!
Loved how this book started out in the prologue. You get the fairytale vibes, but it’s much darker. A curse that is cast upon twin brothers Jayden and Cayden, sparing their younger brother Landry but also turning the popular kids and jocks into creatures too. But Cayden and Hayden took the worst of the curse, turning into frogs every 12 hrs, so one is a frog while the other is human, for 12 years now since they belittled and made fun of Lena as teenagers. Landry’s been s peering the dark web to release the curse with no luck. Eventually, Mia and her dad move into town, she’s gorgeous but has a traumatic past that left her physically and emotionally scarred while everyone makes fun of her too. So when she meets Landry and the twins, now remember one of them is a frog every 12 hrs, when their secrets are revealed, they all accept each other flaws and all. Will they finally be able to break the spell? Read to find out. Full of steam, trauma, hope, loss, grief, healing, love, magic, snags, twists and turns and so much more.
“The Charleston Curse” is definitely the first fairytale retelling I’ve ever read of “the princess and the frog”. I was very curious to find out how the author would put a spin on the story and I have to say: I really loved what she did with it.
Just like the other books in this series, the Charleston Curse is a standalone. Even though there might me some triggers for people, I have a hard time classifying this as a dark retelling. For me, this was more of a feel-good story with people learning from their mistakes and truly becoming good and kind. The love these characters feel for each other, both between brothers as the romantic connection they have with Mia, was truly beautifully written. I could honestly feel the love through the pages, and it left me all warm and smiling when I finished this book.
If you ever decide to read the entire series of standalones in one go, this book would be the perfect palate cleanser, and one I truly enjoyed.
DNF. I found the book description of this novel intriguing because it reminded me of Jenna Castille's "Fractured Lives". However, the only similarity between the two novels is that some guys share a body. I was disappointed to find that the rest of the story was different. I didn't want this novel to be the same story, but I liked the characters in Jenna Castille's novel more than this one. I had difficulty liking the twin men in Bre Rose's novel, although I did like their younger brother. I stopped reading the book around the halfway point. If you read this novel, hopefully, you'll enjoy it more than I did. Watch my full book review here: https://youtu.be/6utknmYRmsI

I loved the story. Heed the warning, there were definitely some parts that made me consider not finishing it, but I am so glad I did. Mia is so much stronger than she realizes, her story just tore me apart. She needed others to let he know she is loved to truly shine. Jayden and Cayden were interesting, I definitely felt sorry for them, even though they made a terrible mistake. Poor Cayden, having to have everyone think he is dead. The loving relationship between the brothers was so cute. I thought it was so cute that Mia knew Cayden was different when she met him as a frog the first time. Overall, I enjoyed the item they all spent together and how they found each other. I really enjoyed the twist at the end that helped them break the curse. If you like darker retellings, I highly recommend you read this. I received a copy of this book and am voluntarily leaving a review.
Okay, I'm going to start by saying that I am not a big fan of fantasy or fairytale retelling or any sort of story in that genre but I decided to take a leap and read this one and I was NOT disappointed!
I have to say that from the moment I opened up my kindle from page 1 all the way to the end I was just consumed and hooked with the story. Ms. Rose did one heck of an exceptional job with this retelling and I have to say that she might just be pushing me to change my mind about reading this type of trope :)
The story was captivating, interesting, magical and one sure story that you wish you could jump in and help the princes' out along with their princess. The twists and turns will have you antsy and fidgety but that's the point of reading an interesting book ;)
This was such a great read. A fairytale retelling of The Princess and the Frog. We meet Mia, she’s such a sweet girl. But she has scars, emotional and physical and doesn’t feel great about herself. Her guys are Landry and his twin brothers Jayden and Cayden. The twins were cursed several years ago, doomed to live life as a frog. It gets a bit confusing but if you read this story, expect a feel good story about a girl and her guys learning to love and learning to accept. Putting themselves on the back burner so that others can get closure or even something more is nothing more than selfless. And it shows the absolute impact Mia had on them in such a short amount of time.
This fairytale with a twist story is based on the princess and the frog but the twist is that its not just one man that gets turned into a frog its two….. identical twins in fact. But they are only frogs for 12 hours at a time, when one is a frog the other is human and vice versa and the only person that knows this is their younger brother. I enjoyed this book and the different take on the original. The overall story was wonderfully written with twists I didn’t see coming and I just fell in love with all three brothers keeping my fingers crossed that they all got their HEA (which they did). Please check your TW/CW before reading.
Amazing retelling/fractured fairy tale of The Princess and the Frog. We all knew that the Princess and the Frog had a moral of the story, ect. I felt this one really brought that home even more than the original.
Of course I enjoyed the steamy parts that were added in to this story, but overall, it was well told. I was taken from the first sentence and couldn't stop reading. I finished it literally the same day I started, enough said?!?!
Do you love fairy tales twisted around? Do you love feelings emotions from what you read? Do you just want a good story to cuddle up on the couch with? Yes.. well this is the one for you.
I really enjoyed this princess and the frog retelling! The twist of the frog prince actually being twins was fun. I felt so bad for Cayden and Jayden, having to live without each other for 12 years. It was heartbreaking. Landry is such a great brother, always there for the twins, spending every spare minute researching and chasing down leads. Mya has been through her own trauma, she meets each of the 3 brothers at different times and they all fall for her, not realizing they’re all seeing the same girl. Lots of secrets come to light, a few twists I really did not see coming, and of course the spice!! Very well done
This is Princess and the Frog RH style with an added twist. Due to a prank twins Jayden and Cayden wore cursed to never been human at the same time. Eaoch must live twelve hours as a frog whole the other is human and then they switch and I loved this twist. I love there bond and the bond they have with their brother Landry who is determined to find a way to break their curse. They meet Mia who's been through a lot and wonder if she can be the one to break the curse. I love watching Mia's growth as she bonds with the brothers. I highly recommend this book
Bre has outdid herself with this story. This story is a fairytale retelling of The Princess and a Frog with a twist. It is a why choose retelling. When you first meet the 3 MMCs you don't know how to feel. You learn the reason behind the curse, did they deserve it? You have to read to find out. Then when you meet the FMC you can't help but feel for her. Throughout reading the story, you feel like you know what's going on BUT you don't. There was so many twists and turns and by the time it all comes together your telling yourself I didn't see that coming. Bre did Great bringing this story to pages and I'm excited to see what she has in store for her readers next.
The Princess and the Frog with a definite twist. Twins Cayden and Jayden are cursed after being cruel to a girl they actually liked. One is human during the day, while the other is a frog and the other is human at night and the other is then the frog. They are forced to assume one identity and lie to their family, except for their younger brother, who knows the truth. Mia, aka Princess to her father, is scarred inside and out after a tragic accident that killed her mother. After moving to a new town, the lives of Mia and the brothers are intertwined from there.
There's magic, steam and a great story from start to finish. Really enjoyed this one!
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ The Charleston Curse by Bre Rose is a uniquely dark twist on the classic The Frog Prince story, with a focus on a curse, twin brothers, and the girl who might be the key to breaking it. The relationship between the brothers and the heroine is both tender and complex, as they struggle with their curse and the deep connection they feel with her. This story has its darker moments, with a heavy focus on the curse’s burden and the mystery surrounding it. It’s a gripping tale of love and redemption, perfect for readers who enjoy a slow-burn romance with plenty of emotional depth and complexity.
So this was an interesting princess and the frog retelling, that i think didn’t live up to its full potential. The story had a very interesting premise, and Mia’s back story was very interesting and unexpected in parts, which i enjoyed.
Now, i mentioned that the story didn’t live up to its potential (that’s just my opinion). So let me get into some parts which i needed more of. First of all what was the point of mentioning that the twins had a pierced dong, if it wasn’t mentioned anywhere during spicy time? Like that’s the whole point that a pierced dong increases the pleasure for the other person. Also, group scenes, don’t get me wrong but i think we were robbed of some great MFM scenes. And we only had one group scene, so for me that was kind of lacking.
There was also the plot twist with the curse, that i found completely illogical, but maybe that’s just my love for fairy tales and how everything gets sorted there.
Overall, this was a great story, i was just expecting more i guess from it.
Bre this is so not my type of book and guess what because you wrote it so I read it ! Why bc I love you 🩷🩷this was so good ! Like so good The backstory of the twins sucks they learned their lesson , but princess back story I felt really bad for :-( but not one but 3 brothers loved her for who she really is ! I loved how they grew into their relationship . Landry was just a ride or die brother always there for them! But if you like retold twisted sexy fairytale this is for you xoxoxox . Love you girl
The Charleston Curse is a twist on the Princess and the Frog. I will say that this book was definitely not what I expected a retelling of that fairytale to be, but I did really enjoy it. I loved Bre's take on this fairytale even if I thought the story was a bit heartbreaking.
I loved Mia. She has had a rough life since she was 15 years old, but she is so kind and accepting. I loved that Landry refused to give up hope and was always there for the twins. Oh the twins. I really liked them because it was clear that they had learned from their past mistakes. I know being separated for 12 years was so difficult on them and it just broke my heart. I enjoyed the dynamics between all of the characters but I would have loved some more steamy scenes.
If you like fairytales or just want a fun book to read then give this one a try! You won't be disappointed with Bre's take on Princess and the Frog.
This book, OMG. What a read. From the very first page all the way till the end you will be kept on the edge of your seat, needing to know what is going to happen. It moves along at a really great pace that is perfect for how the story flows. The characters are interesting and you feel like you are there with them and no matter what happens you want to see them overcome every obstacle in their way. It is a must read book that has to be at the top of your TBR list, no doubt about it. One of my favorite stories so far.
The first thing we’re hit with in this book is the cruelness of teenagers. Sadly, they’re not the only ones who are cruel throughout the book. Mia is a beautifully broken soul. Landry, Cayden, and Jayden are three brothers having to deal with the aftermath of the twins’ cruelty in the form of a curse. When the four of them come together, it’s beautiful. There were some twists in the book that I didn’t see coming which I loved. It’s easy to love these characters and fall into their story. AND it’s a standalone with an HEA!!! Who can ever complain about that? This was a great release by Bre.
I will say it took me a minute to get into this book but as I started to connect with the characters the story came alive for me. I think that the story was a little predictable but it is a story that needs to be told because it will resonate with so many people. It is what we all want to see with those who are bullies in life, that they will reform one day after serving their penance. This was a more light hearted approach to a dark topic. It touched on many triggers without being overly dark. It was a great, easy, quick read.
