Club Heat #1

Pack's Promise

Rate this book
What late-bloomer Madison needs is a pack of no strings attached alphas… so why is it the pack’s beta who she’s falling for?

Alphas Lucas and Grey want an omega to spoil, steady their pack’s dynamic, and eventually, start a family with. But they’ve been burned in the past: omegas aren’t willing to share the alphas’ attention with the pack’s beta, and Rian? He is non-negotiable, period.

Still reeling from her dangerously late presentation, Madison needs to find a pack–and fast. For her second heat, it'll be either the hospital's omega ward–cold, sterile, and humiliating–or taking her chances at Ardor, an exclusive, members-only club for omegas to meet alpha packs.

Madison knows she’s not at Ardor to flirt with tall, handsome betas–even if she still feels mostly like a beta herself–but Rian’s sexy smile and broad shoulders make her heart flutter. Then she meets his alphas, and it’s not just her heart that’s tingling with anticipation, but everywhere: his two alphas make her new omega body react in ways she’s never experienced before.

Suddenly, the prospect of her upcoming heat doesn’t seem so bad… but when she finds herself falling for all three of the men, can she learn to love being an omega if it means being theirs?

Pack’s Promise is a sweet and steamy standalone romance in the Omega Heat series and includes MF, MM, and MMMF action and a Happily Ever After guaranteed.

This story had potential, but ultimately it was underdeveloped and contained two of my pet peeves. Most importantly, the story is abrupt- especially toward the end. There is a lot of telling and not showing, you barely get to know the characters and it felt like the vast majority of the writing was spent on her heat (and not in her POV). I felt like the ending was really rushed and the relationship development was nonexistent.

Now for my two main issues:
1) The FMC is an accessory to the pack. They are a solid, bonded unit of men who want a female omega to serve as a brood mare. There are a few times where they indicate that the omega would never be more important to them than their beta. They may have changed their tune toward the end (or have they?) but still the fact that they are really seeking out a womb is just grating. There’s also a lot of weird insecurity and jealousy amongst all the characters that they don’t really discuss or address on page (although we hear about them having a snuggle chat movie night while the author is tying up the loose ends).

2) There is a scenario that feels like cheating. It’s a gray area I suppose, but I did not like it. FMC goes on a date with her ex boyfriend after meeting the alphas and spending her heat with them, she has sex with the ex boyfriend, she leaves in the middle of the encounter and goes straight to the alphas house and then has sex with him without disclosing any of what had just gone down. I was disturbed by the event and then doubly disturbed by her turning around to another sexual partner without communicating she was just with someone. It felt very icky all around and it pretty much ruined the story for me at that point. I finished the book because it happens toward the end, but I think it was a mistake to let that scene go that far.

it was good, but one tiny problem

Minor spoiler!

So I enjoyed the storyline, the world building, the characters. But I had one point of confusion, and one “ noooo you just destroyed the romance” moment.

Point of confusion: why was Lucas the pack leader? Gray came off as the more dominant in virtually every scene. From what I could tell, was it based solely on peen size? Weird.

My “you just killed the love factor” moment- so all three guys physically want Madison. But Gray was adamant the entire book that Rian, the beta, was the pack’s one true love. They just wanted an omega so they could have kids. He reiterated this over… and over… and over. I get the need to reassure Rian of his place in the pack, and what a fine balance that would have to be. But… he didn’t find that balance. He started and finished as fully Team Rian. He went so far as to tell Rian “say the word, I’ll never touch her again. Lucas can put the babies in her. I only need you, beta boy”. This wasn’t in the beginning. This was towards the end of the book. There remained a very clear line in this book. “I may come to love you, and I definitely want you to have our kids for us, but I will always love Rian more and put him and his needs first. Omega is secondary. “

And that…. That’s a no go for me. She’s just a breeding cow, now.

Which is a bummer, because this was a good book. It just wasn’t the romantic HEA I was waiting for.

I am still looking for sweet omegaverse romances that grip my heart the way Lola and the Millionaires did. Sadly, Pack's Promise was was not the book for me.

The story would have been alright if it wasn't quite so short for what it was trying to do. I had the impression the book wanted to be emotional and deep in some aspects but only managed that on a superficial level. Maybe it was due to the length of the book or maybe it was the writing style.

For some reason I didn't get the connection between the characters. The relationship between all four felt off even by the end of the book. The strongest connection I read was between the female protagonist and the beta male protagonist. Whenever one of the two alphas would join during a romantic scene between those two, I felt they were quite interrupting and not really adding anything to the atmosphere. It also didn't help that the story had some grammar mistakes and even managed to misspell the name of one of the protagonists.

This might be the book for you if you look for a quick and diverting omagaverse romance - but expect the romance part to be light.

I typically don’t like to rate books I don’t finish. But I made it about 50% (a little over 100 pages) and my brain is starting to hate me. I hate the writing, the plot is lackluster, and there’s just so much editing that needed to be done. The author cares more about writing the sex scenes than anything else but the constant repetition killed me. The over use of em dashes made my eyes bleed.

And that’s not even talking about how the Alpha Leader was no real leader. The other alpha definitely took over. I think if Rian was an omega who couldn’t have kids the plot would have been 1000 times better. The alphas only cared about Rian and having babies so why not make Maddison a surrogate or something. They clearly did want her for her. They just wanted to impregnate her so they could have a family with their beta.

It just didn’t feel like a real Omegaverse and the writing itself was total trash.

Okay, so this was one spicy meatball!!

I liked the issue in this omegaverse being a little different, in so much as the omega Madison, was a very late presenter and still felt like a beta. She also first meets this pack's beta Rian and is drawn to him as he is equally with her. The pack's main issue has always been omegas that weren't willing to share their alphas with a beta. Alphas Gray and Lucas, love their beta Rian and having him as part of the pack is non-negotiable. There was a lot of insecurities to work through. And Madison had all these new feelings and urges and didn't know how to deal with them, getting very overwhelmed. So this was heartfelt and had many emotional rollercoasters, while still being pretty smutty with lots of MMFM action.

I enjoyed this but didn't like that there were some cases where I felt Gray was trying to show Rian that he was just as good/sexy/loved as Madison, and ended up coming across as putting her down a little. And while Gray was a sexy, dirty talker he rubbed me the wrong way some.

Overall, I liked it and enjoyed the different take. I'm interested to read the other OVs Victoria Kent has in this series.

This story didn't need to have a female in it. The pack is just too into each other to be open for a female besides having a baby.

Let me start this off by saying I adore omegaverse novels. This one seemed to have all the aspects I love but I wasn't very entertained. I struggled to finish it. The steam is great and the love story between all of the leads works itself out. Three stars, I recommend it if you like omegaverse!

Eh. This was...just porn, really. I know the balance of plot to sex in omegaverse books can skew towards "it's a bit much" but I don't think I've ever read one with so little plot. Two stars is generous, I think.

This had a lot of crap I'm not a fan of. I like RH with some MM, but in this one the FMC is a bit of a third wheel. The two alphas love their beta, and one says repeatedly - even at the end of the book - that the beta will always come first, even saying he'd agree to not touch her again if that's what Rian (the beta) wants. Is she even a loved member of this pack? I don't think so. They like having sex with her, cool. But they never even get to know her. There is no talking. She doesn't tell them how freaked out she is with losing control of herself to the hormones, after being a beta for 24 years before her late blooming. Seriously, not one conversation about it. We know almost nothing about her, and the pack knows even less than us. This isn't love, it's just sex.

Oh, and after spending her first heat with the pack, she fucks her ex. I'm mentioning it because for some people that will likely be a hard nope. For me...in the story, it was when she was in a self-destructive spiral after her first heat (trying to come to terms with such a loss of control and the vulnerability), so this wasn't, to me, the deal breaker it would normally be - this was like the last straw of her self-loathing and confusion. I didn't hate it nearly as much as I hated the fact that SHE NEVER TALKED TO THEM about how much she spiralled out.

I don't buy that this pack is anything more than, like, a mating of convenience - she needs someone to lean on for the sex, and they want babies. The guys love each other and are willing to take care of her if it means she's their broodmare.

Bleh.

**Be aware: This review will contain spoilers, and aren't accidentally this time. So, only read it, if you are okay with spoilers, or have finished/read the book.**

This book was good, I guess. But I had some issues with the story, which is why I'm unsure about the rating. I'm one of the lenient readers, who mostly try to see the effort of the author, and I know it isn't that easy to invent the wheel new, when writing a story. Omegaverse is my favorite genre, but it is often repetitive in content. Though, a little change is there recently. Like there are more stories with betas as main characters. I love that, and the idea here isn't bad, either.

Madison is an Omega, but a late bloomer with her twenty-five years. So, her thinking is more beta-like, because she had lived her life as a beta so far. Faced with the change, it is difficult for her to see herself differently.

So far, so good. The guys, Lucas and Gray (the alphas) and Rian, their beta, are in search for an omega, and therefore are in the Heat Club, called Ardor. That's where they meet.

But during the first meeting, I found my first issues. For one, the pack described their search for an omega as a necessity, because they want children. But at the same time, it's said, that nothing will change between the three. It will always be Rian as their center and so on. The way it sounds is like they don't consider an omega as part of the pack. More like, we need one, but she will be second to Rian? I don't like it.

The pack has a lot of insecurities, too. So, Rian is self-conscious about being a beta and a possible change in the relationship with his alphas, if there will be an omega. Though, he is the only one who feels like he has forged a connection with Madison from the first moment.

Lucas seems to have issues with personal contact or something. He requires the most time with Madison. And Gray is a little quicker, but still he is always concerned about Rian, and how he thinks about their contact with her.

Though, I have to say I liked it very much, that they respected Madison's wishes, and don't push her to anything, despite all their own dreams.

Then there is Madison herself, who still sees herself as a beta, I guess, or is insecure about being an omega. This has partly to do with her ex-boyfriend Brent, who she keeps thinking about during some encounters with the pack. And this Brent seems to be an asshole. I don't get it, why she didn't see that. I mean, even the meetings on page between her and him… He didn't seem like a good guy. And he left her, because she was an omega? I don't understand, why she even talks to him. But that tainted the story, too. And I don't mean her sexual encounter with him.

Though, it is a somewhat gray area. She isn't together with the guys, but she has sex with Brent, and after that goes straight to them. I don't know why it isn't mentioned between them. But okay. Technically, she didn't do something wrong. It's just nothing to be happy about.

But she is unable to see or feel freely about the pack, because of her hang-ups and her ex. The book remembered me of the movie I have seen one day before (Holidate), where there was a similar dynamic.

The best part for me was definitely Rian and her together. She finds comfort in Rian being a beta. And for Rian it is a positive influence, too. Because he was the one, who was overlooked by omegas before.

That doesn't mean, I didn't like Lucas and Gray. I love it, that they consider the feelings of each other, and all. And the problem, from the start, seems to shift in the course of the story.

Still, the drama and issues felt artificial to me, because the solution was really easy. I mean, they just don't talk with each other. Instead, they talk about their heads with each other, and never truly reach a ground. The relationship building isn't therefore that big either, because the most part of the story is based on that fact, and is fixated on sexual encounters (they are good written, and steamy). Firstly, her heat, which she doesn't even remember about consciously, and therefore isn't part of her POV.

Then the end was very abrupt? They never really talk about their feelings, or have a courting phase or something. In one moment they decide they are a pack, and that's it.

I have expected something different, I think. The second epilogue was sweet and I liked it. Though, I would have like to see the alphas with the baby, too. But okay. Overall, it really wasn't that bad.

Still, I waver between three and four stars. I really wish Goodreads would allow half stars. Would help in the matter. But I think I will go with four stars, because I do see potential and liked it. Even though, I'm sure I will not remember this book long.

This was a fun read that follows a late blooming omega who was raised and lived as a beta who is now on the hunt for a pack to get her through her upcoming heat. Fun, flirty, hot and spicy...just the way you want your omega romance read to be! The underlying theme being that communication is the key to happiness and unfortunately the pack and the omega are all horrible at communicating what they want, need and desire...other than in the bedroom! Never fear, a happily ever after is a part of the equation so happily read away!

I think this was going pretty well, and I was liking the MMCs and Madi, until after the heat. Then I started to dislike her and felt disconnected from her character. She made a stupid choice and confused me. Then they seemed to finally “get together” suddenly. The guys were great the whole way though! 🥰

Also, I DID greatly appreciate that Madi was different from the typical omega. That was so refreshing.

I won’t lie, I’m really disappointed because at 25% of the way it all just comes across awkward and strange. I feel absolutely no connection to any of the characters and don’t want to keep going forward.
I’ve also just looked at other reviews and I’ll tell you now had I finished the book, based on the spoilers I would be raging at this time.

Sweet and plenty steamy

Had everything I love in an omegaverse. Sweet, doting, alphas and steamy sex scenes. The tension is a good level of keeping you interested but not so high to be stressful. A perfect wind down quick read.

This was a good book. I enjoyed it over all I’m not a big fan of an already established pack adding an omega. So some of it was off putting to me. But other than that. It was quite good if your into that you will love it.

Decent story but some parts just felt icky, it seemed to me they only wanted a woman to breed and not to be really in it. I really didn’t like that Madison went from a date with Brent to the alphas bed in the same night and said nothing idk 🤷🏻‍♀️ just didn’t feel right.

I’m not sure how to review this. While there were points where I was sobbing because the emotional ride Rian goes through, the ending was so rushed that I got whiplash.

Madison has been a Beta her entire life until she turns late (24) and struggles with her new Omega status. She meets Rian, a Beta, at Club Ardour, a nightclub designed for packs to meet Omegas. Madison and Rian fall hard and she agrees to go through her second heart with his pack. She leaves immediately afterwards, not understanding the influx of Omega hormones flooding through her. Throughout the rest of the story, we get to know the Alphas and their connection together and through Rian,(swoony, supportive Rian 🥰).

Rian falls so hard for Madison, sussing out the anxiety and emotions she goes through. When she cuddles up to him when she’s nervous, it was like Rian was squeezing my heart. ☺️

Her relationship with West was more superficial than her link with Rian and I had a difficult time piecing together Lucas’ relationship with his pact. While the characters were not multidimensional, I could still “feel” the story, especially the distress of the third act conflict.

I would have given this 4⭐️; it was 214 pages and a quick read, but I just wanted *more.*

Good until it wasn’t

Up until 60-70% of the story I was interested. That was until the pack, like idiots, let her walk away when she obviously needed to know they cared! They never once spoke of their feelings even though she went back to them. They didn’t talk. They didn’t communicate. It drove me nuts and ruined the book for me.
You’re all miserable? Then maybe let her know it isn’t just sexual? Is that so hard? No. No it isn’t.
Then I feel like they didn’t even think that maybe she needed to be treated sweeter, to be told they want her to stay, or, you know, just something after the heat. There was zero after care and she was obviously depressed. But no, “it is her choice”. Yeah, well what is she supposed to choose if she feels like there is no choice? She says she wants to “get out of your hair” and you don’t correct her! The heck guys?!?
Then your grand gesture is what? Dinner and more sex? Seriously? That’s the way you convince a woman that you want more than sex? With lingerie and more sex…
NO!
Up until that point you had me and then, after that fiasco, I could barely read a thing.

I was in the mood for a new omegaverse romance and this one came up on my KU. But it just didn't do it.

It started off strong, and probably why I did give it 2 stars instead of 1. It was really interesting and I liked the dynamics that were being built. And then it slowly just faded. I can't pinpoint when it started to fade for me, it just happen slowly.

The romance was okay. But I didn't feel a massive connection between the characters. It all moved fairly quickly, without much interaction that made me feel that dynamic.

I really did want to like this one. But it didn't hit the mark and I was left disappointed.

It takes a lot of errors to make it a point in my review but there was a lot of missing words and sentences that didn't make sense. Name switching really got to me.

From the beginning,.i was very concerned because they made it a point to say An omega would always come 2nd to their Beta. She's essentially an accessory and it just wasn't fun..

When he decides that he would stop sleeping with Madison if it pleased the Beta I was done...

Honestly Madison should not have even been a part of this it should have just been the Beta and his alpha's

I love to try this again After an editor and like good alpha goes through this to clean it up.

This was incredibly underdeveloped and the pacing became increasingly rushed as the story went on.

The men make it clear from the beginning that they only want an omega for breeding purposes, and the story never does anything to negate that or move past it. It basically just reinforces it through all the breeding kink talk and Lucas’s obsession with having kids. They start throwing the word love around, but there is absolutely no foundation for it in the text.

I don’t have any real grasp of the characters or their lives or motives. It was all very surface level, and I didn’t enjoy it.
